Swedish doom and hard rock collective, Avatarium, has finally revealed the first details about their forthcoming studio album, entitled “Between You, God, the Devil and The Dead”! Slated for release on January 24, 2025 via AFM Records, the band’s sixth full-length offering will be available as ltd. LP Vinyl (Black, Orange/White, Silver), 2-CD Ear Book, CD Jewelcase and Digital formats. The physical album pre-sale has just started at: https://shop.afm-records.de/avatarium

A first single, the album opening track “Long Black Waves” – combining gloomy hard rock with heavy doom metal accents – is now premiering below! Avatarium guitarist Marcus Jidell states:

“The first song is a heavy, doomy dark gospel named “Long Black Waves”. It’s a homage to bands like Led Zeppelin, Mountain and Black Sabbath. And as always we try to find our own twist on things to get the good ol’ Avatarium vibe going. Enjoy!”

“Long Black Waves” is now streaming on all digital providers at https://avatarium.bfan.link/long-black-waves

More than ten years ago with founding Avatarium, Candlemass icon Leif Edling made the doom metal world a darker and ultimately more interesting place. Over the next years, they released two EPs, four critically acclaimed full-length records, and a live DVD, ‘An Evening With Avatarium – Live in Stockholm’. Edling eventually left Avatarium‘s ranks due to health issues, but the band forged onward, and 2022 found them capping off a prolific decade with their latest album and AFM Records debut, ‘Death, Where Is Your Sting’.

Following the much-acclaimed record release, lauded by fans and music press worldwide and numerous live appearances at prestigious festivals or on tour with acts such as Swallow The Sun, early 2025 will see the Swedish doom maestros even double down on all expections! Their forthcoming studio offering, “Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead”, featuring eight new enthralling tracks, showcases the band’s exceptional songwriting skills and qualities. Avatarium have evolved since their 2013 self-titled debut, and although they have always introduced new elements along the way, with their epic fusion of a doom-ladden occult sound and dark, heavy yet melancholic, poetic facets, the Swedish collective fronted by extraordinary vocalist Jennie-Ann Smith proves, why they belong to one of the most unique acts the modern heavy music scene has to offer!

“18 months ago we decided to make another album and now it’s (finally) written, recorded and mixed!“ Jidell says. “At one point I thought we would never be able to finish it but here we are now! This album has the doom, the old school heavy metal riffs, the acoustic numbers and the classic dark gospel of Avatarium. I am very proud of what we have achieved and if this is our last album, we’ll definitely end with a bang!”

“Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead” was produced and mixed by Marcus Jidell, with a mastering by Svante Forsbäck (Candlemass, Amorphis and many more). The album artwork was created by Erik Rovanpera.

“Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead” Tracklist:

  1. Long Black Waves
  2. I See You Better In The Dark
  3. My Hair Is On Fire (But I’ll Take Your Hand)
  4. Lovers Give A Kingdom To Each Other
  5. Being With The Dead
  6. Until Forever And Again
  7. Notes From Underground
  8. Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead

AVATARIUM is:
Jennie-Ann Smith (Vocals)
Marcus Jidell (Guitars)
Andreas Habo Johansson (Drums & Percussion)
Mats Rydström (Bass)

FORGOTTEN TOMB Stream New Album “Nightfloating”, Out Today

Depressive Black/Doom Metal overlords FORGOTTEN TOMB offer stream of their new studio album “Nightfloating”, released today, July 12th via Agonia Records.

Listen to the album, here:

“Nightfloating” comes after four years from the critically acclaimed “Nihilistic Estrangement” and it’s an accurate picture of where the band stands these days, artistically; reinterpreting its Depressive Black Metal roots – a genre the band helped to define in the early 2000s with its classic first three records – in the light of its 25 years’ experience, FORGOTTEN TOMB reinvigorates itself with a record that blends past and present, exploring darker territories and different shades of gray. From atmospheric cuts such as the anthemic title-track and the blistering “This Sickness Withered My Heart”, to intricate yet harrowing songs such as “A Chill That You Can’t Taint” and “Unsafe Spaces”, the band tops it off with the surprising dungeon-synth detour of “Drifting” and the 10-minutes epic “A Despicable Gift”, crafting an uncompromising yet refreshing album and setting itself apart once again from all bands that followed in its footsteps. From the first note to the last, “Nightfloating” sounds unmistakably like FORGOTTEN TOMB.

The majestic cover artwork has been hand-drawn by Greek artist Satta La Main Verte, perfectly complementing the mood of the record and its lyrical themes, that follow the band’s caustic tradition while touching on various subjects, from more introspective meditations to all-out misanthropic aggression.

“We are proud of this new record, it’s been a lot of work and the fact that it’s gonna be released during the band’s 25th anniversary makes it even more special,” FORGOTTEN TOMB comments. “It doesn’t get more Forgotten Tomb than this record, it sounds like you would expect, but at the same time it’s got a fresh approach to the subject matter. There are a lot of details to be discovered throughout the tracks and we can’t wait for our fans to listen to it.”

The album was recorded at Elfo Studio in Italy between August 2023 and January 2024, and produced by Daniele Mandelli and FORGOTTEN TOMB. Daniele Mandelli, Ferdinando Marchisio and Alessandro Comerio mixed the album. Davide Tavecchia mastered it at Twilight Studio in February 2024.

RISE OF KRONOS was born in 2021 from a former band called Surface. After 11 years of hard work, countless concerts, three records and a lot of sweat, blood and tears Surface decided to start a new chapter. As they were (and are) close friends, they wanted to stay together but walk a new, even more, professional path. They needed to stand up and – finally – take each and every fan with them to Olympus. The decision for a new name was born quite early on their journey to a new concept. Somehow Surface did not fit to the music anymore and had to be replaced, but on the other hand, those four friends want to keep the link to their 11 years of music and their amazingly loyal fans – to their so-called Titans. Consequently, they named themselves after their 2015 released record “Rise Of Kronos”. RISE OF KRONOS is a hymn of praise to the past years, their fans as well as a brand-new concept with a new image and new musical influences. Dark, modern and straightforward death metal with the tendency to progressive metal, Swedish death and hardcore – this is what RISE OF KRONOS stands for. Combining Greek mythology and an impulsive live show, they are ready to take the lead to Olympus – now.

RISE OF KRONOS are:

Tom Robinson – Guitar, Vocals
Tim Broscheit – Bass,Vocals
Jhonnie Ritter – Guitar
Marco Bechreiner – Drums

OTHER WORLD Premiere New Track ‘To Decay’ from Forthcoming Album

Posted by metalshockfinland on July 12, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: OTHER WORLD. Leave a comment

Featuring former members of BLACK SALVATION, PILLORIAN, and BOREWORM, the US band OTHER WORLD craft truly hypnotic and atmospheric Black Metal. DMP premieres the epic ‘To Decay‘, the second track released from their forthcoming album, “Tenebrous“.

‘To Decay‘ showcases the scope and sweep of OTHER WORLD‘s music. It achieves a perfect balance between churning layers of guitars, neo-gothic choral sections, uplifting harmonized melodies, and the cathartic energy of resurgence from dark depths. ‘To Decay‘ is a distinctive and powerful take on the Black Metal genre.

Composer Christopher describes the song’s genesis:

“The latest single from the album ‘To Decay‘ was originally going to be a second part to ‘Of Death And Alteration‘ but the idea was changed as we felt the 2023 single should stand on its own separate from the album. When writing ‘To Decay‘ it felt very similar in feeling to ‘Of Death And Alteration‘ and so I chose to use this track as the last song of the album, as this track in my opinion is the most impactfult and epic on the album. I wanted woeful leads with lots of reverb, and a deep heavy doom feeling which can be heard throughout the record, but especially in the closing track.“

Vocalist and lyricist Stephen adds a conceptual perspective:

“‘‘To Decay,’ the album’s concluding piece, encapsulates the tranquil desperation that permeates our daily lives. It shares certain lyrical verses with the album’s opening track, ‘From Innocence.’ The song is fueled by the weight of grief experienced due to a recent loss, and it aims to shed light on the overwhelming anxieties that consume you during those excruciating moments. The track serves as a cathartic release, seeking solace in the understanding that pain and sorrow are an intrinsic part of the human experience. As the song progresses, there is a gradual transition from despair to acceptance, reflecting the journey of coming to terms with loss and finding the strength to carry on.“

Check out the first unveiled song from the new album, ‘From Innocence‘, here!

“Tenebrous” will be released on CD, vinyl and digital on August 30th. Pre-orders are possible via the label’s EU, US and Bandcamp shops.

OTHER WORLD is an atmospheric/experimental Black Metal band formed in California in 2012 as a solo project of multi-instrumentalist Christopher A. (SUFFERING IN SOLITUDE, BLACK SALVATION). As his tenure with those projects came to an end, Christopher shifted his focus to OTHER WORLD, spawning five releases over seven years. In 2022, OTHER WORLD was joined by Stephen Parker (PARAPHILIA, MAESTUS, ex-PILLORIAN) on vocals and Jacob Holland on bass, which led to a collaboration on the new track, ‘Of Death and Alteration‘.

After arriving on DMP in authoritative style with epic 2023 single, the band expand and consolidate their vision via new album “Tenebrous” to be released on August 30th.
