Since bursting forth from the cosmic ether in 2014, Seattle’s XOTH has evoked fan and critical acclaim for their innovative approach to extreme metal. 2019’s “Interdimensional Invocations” has become a cult classic, blending technical death metal, modern black metal, and thrash in a novel synthesis that eludes categorization.
In partnership with Dawnbreed Records, their third triumph “Exogalactic” is an ambitious leap forward. It’s as if they’ve excavated musical relics from Earth’s core and melded them with sounds from the far reaches of the universe. Each song is an event horizon, stirring subgenres into a timewarp of past and future sonic chaos.
Amidst the vortex of sound, the mixing sorcery of Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studio (Obituary, Suffocation) collides with the enigmatic mastering finesse of Jason Williams at RiffsThatRule to manifest an auditory odyssey. The artwork by Shindy Reehal at Shindy Design sets the tone for the voyage. XOTH is not just music; it’s a journey across the celestial landscape led by interstellar luminaries.
“Through four years of trials and tribulations, we are thrilled to finally unleash an album that has demanded immense dedication, fortitude, and sacrifice from us. The results of our experiment have surpassed our wildest imagination! Prepare yourselves!”.

A Journey of Musical Odyssey
Formed in Madrid in 2014, Ascent embarked on their musical odyssey by paying homage to progressive rock giants before embarking on a journey of self-discovery through original compositions. Their initial foray onto the stage in 2016 at Totofest in Madrid marked the beginning of their transition from interpreters to creators.
The unveiling of their debut album, “Deep Schyzo Cycle,” in 2017 was a momentous occasion, capturing the essence of classic progressive rock while delving into the realms of unbelievable horror. Live performances of this conceptual masterpiece solidified their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the progressive music scene.
As the band ventured into new sonic territories, 2019 saw the release of “Forward,” a sophomore album that showcased a more contemporary sound and a heightened production quality. Their performance at the esteemed “I Festival de Rock de Entrevías” further solidified their status as trailblazers in the genre.
Embracing New Horizons
In 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, Ascent surprised fans with their innovative interpretation of The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” offering a glimpse into their evolving musical direction. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the band, leading to the highly anticipated release of their third album, “Gamma,” in 2024.
With “Gamma,” Ascent demonstrates a remarkable evolution in their sound, exploring a diverse range of themes and musical styles, from thunderous progressive metal to delicate ballads and even hints of pop sensibility. The album is a testament to their creativity and versatility, cementing their position as one of the most exciting bands in the progressive rock/metal landscape.

Exactly 30 years after its original release, Finnish metal icons AMORPHIS are proud to celebrate the anniversary of their milestone “Tales From The Thousand Lakes” with a unique live edition of the record, which represents an essential collector’s item for every AMORPHIS connoisseur. The magic of this work, grandly transferred onto the stage of Helsinki, Finland‘s Tavastia Club, shows the band in their full glory: powerful, passionate and unforgettable. “Tales From The Thousand Lakes (Live At Tavastia)” is out now via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM) and can be ordered physically (CD+Blu-ray-digipak or coloured vinyl), digitally or streamed now, here: https://amorphis.rpm.link/taleslivePR.
With ‘Into Hiding,’ a third chapter of this captivating live testimony has been launched to accompany the release. Join the celebrations over on YouTube:
“‘Into Hiding’ had a working title, ‘Rintamäkeläiset,’ as its opening melody reminds one of an old Finnish TV series,” recalls lead guitarist Esa Holopainen. “The song itself became very popular and is still a crucial part of our setlist. No wonder as it’s a great mixture of an old Finnish TV score, death metal, Arabic vibes, and BLACK SABBATH. And you can’t go wrong with a song that includes a bass guitar solo!”
Performing an iconic album in its entirety, front to back in the chronological order, is an extraordinary moment. It captures a time long gone, a point in our lives we will never forget. For who can say they weren’t forever changed after listening to the breathtaking and spiritual beauty that is “Tales From The Thousand Lakes”? With their second album, AMORPHIS erected a monument to Finnish mythology, nature and music, as touching, inspiring and nurturing today as it was back in 1994.
“Tales From The Thousand Lakes (Live At Tavastia)” manifests AMORPHIS’ unparalleled dynamism and artistic uniqueness, and sets new standards in terms of brilliance and intensity. Rarely has the raw power and emotional depth of a live performance been captured so authentically as on this sonic memento and extraordinary concert film.

Born of the pandemic shutdown and mobilized by the world’s societal ills, PLUTOCRACY PLANET is an experimental sociopolitical super-collective led by former Alarm Magazine editor and musical vagrant Scott Morrow.
Fusing post-hardcore sensibilities with electronics, polyrhythms, atypical time signatures, and a far-reaching instrumental palette—including strings, saxophone, piano, harp, marimba, acoustic guitar, and more—the ambitious collaborative project utilizes the talents of more than two dozen venerable vocalists and instrumentalists across hardcore, hip hop, emo, avant-garde composition, pop, and more.
Greed, inequality, and the endless influence of money in politics serve as the project’s thematic focal points. But between a broad-minded approach and a coalition of lyrical voices, the collective’s forthcoming debut LP also touches on the cult of personality, fear-mongering media, police brutality, toxic masculinity, religious zealotry, factory farming, the billionaire space race, discourse in the internet era, and more.
Now, after singles that have traversed electronics-infused post-hardcore, Southwestern-esque acoustic rock, sax- and violin-tinged prog metal, and moody trip hop, Plutocracy Planet has premiered the final video off its debut album at New Noise. Featuring vocalist Rody Walker of prog-metal stalwarts Protest the Hero, Plutocracy Planet’s “War?” is a reimagined electro-metal cover from System of a Down’s acclaimed self-titled debut, complete with a harp, cello, and synthesizer breakdown, repudiating calls to war in the name of national security, liberation from authoritarianism, religious zealotry, and geopolitical dominance.
“This System of a Down song is an evergreen reminder that today’s war crimes set the stage for tomorrow’s,” Morrow says. “Ordinary people do not want war, and yet it is interwoven with the human condition. We’re tribalistic, but it often takes extravagant lies and manipulations, echoed by corporate or state-controlled media, to foment support for war.
“I worry that the rush among powerful nations to use AI for warfare will expedite the next global conflict. In the wrong hands, these new technologies could threaten freedom worldwide. Fascism is on the rise not only in the U.S. but in other democracies, and I hope that this democratic experiment—as flawed as it is—doesn’t become just a footnote in history.”
Out now on vinyl and streaming on all major platforms, Plutocracy Planet’s full-length debut (order here) is produced by singer-songwriter Mark Rose of Spitalfield and features:
Bob Nanna (Braid, Hey Mercedes, Lifted Bells) Jonah Matranga (Far, Gratitude, onelinedrawing) Matt Pryor (The Get-Up Kids, The New Amsterdams, Radar State) Mike Kinsella (American Football, Owen, Lies, Cap’n Jazz) Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Azusa) Rody Walker (Protest the Hero) Carson Pace (The Callous Daoboys) Emily Jane White Mark Rose (Spitalfield) Swamburger (Solillaquists of Sound) Blueprint (Soul Position, Greenhouse) Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) Carla Kihlstedt (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tin Hat Trio, Rabbit Rabbit Radio) Nils Frykdahl (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Faun Fables, Idiot Flesh) Aaron Spectre (Drumcorps) Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Masonic Wave) Angela Mullenhour (Sybris, Touched by Ghoul, Pink Frost) Anton Patzner (Emily Jane White, Foxtails Brigade, Judgement Day) Jonathan Hischke (The Sound of Animals Fighting, Le Butcherettes, Hella, Anywhere) Jason Schimmel (Secret Chiefs 3, Estradasphere, Red Fiction) Adam Stacey (Igorrr, Secret Chiefs 3, Estradasphere) Jason Zdora (HeWhoCorrupts) Leyla I. About Plutocracy Planet: Long an appreciator of stylistic diversity, Scott Morrow spent his years at Alarm Magazine championing fiercely creative and risk-taking independent artists of all stripes. When covid-19 shut down the planet, he found himself, like many others, wondering how to get the most out of “The Big Pause.” Rather than use his free time writing about other musicians, he opted to write music of his own—something he hadn’t done in over a decade. Between having many talented musician friends and connections from years of covering music, Morrow quickly amassed a small army of all-star contributors, patching together a network of like-minded experimentalists who resonated with the project’s theme.
But the shutdown wasn’t all productive for Morrow—far from it. In June of 2021, he was hit in the back by a stray bullet in his hometown of Chicago as he walked to meet a friend. Losing multiple organs during an emergency surgery, Morrow nearly died in the immediate aftermath as well as during the subsequent healing process due to an abscess of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The grueling eight-month recovery was yet another “big pause” in his life, but once he resumed life “as usual,” he was even more resolved to finish his project’s debut full-length album.
“The hell that I went through I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” Morrow says. “But I’m unbelievably lucky and grateful to be here today. I could not have had a better and more wonderful support system, and enduring something like that makes you realize how very loved and fortunate you are. Plus, I couldn’t just go dying after all of these gracious, wonderfully talented folks contributed to this unknown pipe-dream project.”
Finnish winter metallers WOLFHEART have released a ferocious new single, ‘Evenfall,’ off their highly-anticipated album “Draconian Darkness,” to be released on September 6, 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). Hard-charging, memorable riffs lead into a soaring, strikingly melodic chorus, with clean vocals layered under roaring harshes. The song recalls the band’s more stripped-down roots, but with renewed energy that propels the band forward into a new era.
The band comment, “‘Evenfall’ is the most guitar/riff driven and also least symphonic song on the album and creates a perfect link to the old-school WOLFHEART material from the first two albums. With all this energy compressed into four minutes, it is a guaranteed addition to the set list for our Euro tour in November.”
Pre-order “Draconian Darkness” in your preferred physical format [CD-digipak or coloured vinyl], pre-save it on your favourite digital service provider (DSP), or pre-order the album digitally to instantly receive ‘Evenfall’ and ‘Grave’ instantly now, here: https://wolfheart.rpm.link/draconiandarknessPR.
The opus was recorded at Deep Noise Studios and produced, mixed and mastered by the band’s long-time collaborator Saku Moilanen; its artwork was crafted by Nikos Stavridakis (VisionBlack).

Originated by hardworking multi-instrumentalist Tuomas Saukkonen (BEFORE THE DAWN, BLACK SUN AEON etc.), WOLFHEART stand for a unique combination of sinister atmosphere and intense Northern European metal. Their music is based on sheer strength and poetic depth what generated much appreciation for their work within the worldwide metal community. While WOLFHEART‘s art is mainly inspired by their Finnish surrounding, their albums tell eclectic stories connecting nature and human feelings, and with each and every album, they’ve managed to extend their artistic horizon and to give even more utterance to their music.
Heavy rock powerhouse Crash and the Void, renowned for their thrilling blend of raw rock and roll with the flair of B-grade horror and sci-fi, is excited to announce the release of their latest single, Love Me To Death via Mongrel Records. Emerging from the vibrant rock scene of Pretoria in 2019, the band is fronted by the dynamic Schutte brothers – Marius, a powerhouse vocalist with a music theory degree, and Lumar, a renowned session drummer. They are joined by the fiery guitar work of Waldo Van Der Linde and the dynamic bass and sound engineering of Dillon Van Heerden.
Love Me To Death draws inspiration from the complex intersections of love and hate, exploring the intensity and duality of these emotions. “The track is inspired by unconventional love, specifically how passion can swing both ways,” explains Marius Schutte. “It captures the fear and exhilaration experienced when you encounter these powerful feelings for the first time.”
The message of Love Me To Death is clear: love is multifaceted, encompassing both terror and bliss. “Humans aren’t designed to love in just one way,” Marius continues. “Love can be terrifying yet sweet, sometimes both at the same time.”
The creation of the song marked a departure from the band’s usual approach. “This track was written to incorporate a different sound than our usual Crash and the Void style,” Marius shares. “We aimed for simplicity, focusing more on the vibe and vocals rather than layering numerous moving parts.”
Recording the track was an intimate and in-house affair, taking place in the home studios of Marius Schutte and Waldo Van Der Linde. “The entire process, including mastering, mixing, and recording, was done ‘in the box’,” adds Waldo. This approach ensured a cohesive and polished final product that stays true to the band’s vision.
Love Me To Death can be described in just five words: “Love exists in many forms.” This single promises to resonate with fans and newcomers alike, delivering the energy and raw emotion that Crash and the Void is known for.
