Formed in Germany in 1969, Nektar favored extended compositions and concept albums over the constraints of pop. They were among the progenitors of the progressive rock movement of the 1970s as well as the jam-band scene that arose in the late 1990s. Their sound traveled well to the States, where they enjoyed Top 40 success with “A Tab in the Ocean” (1972) and “Remember the Future” (1973). Nearly 20 albums later, the band’s artistic and personal charisma has earned them masses of devoted fans along with their album “The Other Side” (2020) which was Number 1 on Amazon Progressive Music. For over half a century, Nektar has been the guiding star for countless fans, leading them on mesmerizing expeditions through the vast expanses of the cosmos and the depths of the ocean. With their unique fusion of progressive rock and stunning visuals, these trailblazing prog-rock legends have ignited the imaginations of generations.

Now Nektar is back with the first in the Mission to Mars trilogy. Their first to feature new drummer, Jay Dittamo, alongside longtime members Ryche Chlanda (guitars, vocals), Kendall Scott (keyboards, synths), Maryann Castello (vocals) and original founding member Derek “Mo” Moore (bass guitar, vocals). Mission to Mars was released on August 30 th and critics are taking notice.

PSYCHLONA Drop New Video Single ‘Magic Carpet’ from Forthcoming Album

British desert rockers PSYCHLONA turn out to be sly cool cats that invite you to a chill ride on their ‘Magic Carpet’. This is also the title of their latest video single taken from the forthcoming new full-length “Warped Vision”, which is scheduled for release on September 27 via Magnetic Eye Records. Pre-order your copy at: http://lnk.spkr.media/psychlona-warped-vision

“At the beginning, ‘Magic Carpet’ was a jazzy guitar piece that Martin brought along to rehearsal one day”, singer and guitarist Phil Heay tells on behalf of the band. “The riff sounded so cool and upbeat that we brought it down with some dark lyrics, and we also gave it some welly with a mega-riff in the second half. This one should get the pit going – then it’ll be goodnight from us.”

When it’s time to pick your poison, a blend of KYUSS and FU MANCHU is nearly always the base for a delicious result. Spice up the flavour with a particularly British note via a chilled infusion of HAWKWIND and a liberal sprinkling of PINK FLOYD over the lusciously creamy top, and you’ll find that PSYCHLONA has served up a concoction ready to explode spectacularly in your aural taste buds.

Musical barkeeps with the necessary set of skills to create such a delicacy are not easy to come by, but PSYCHLONA are experts in their field. Their fourth album “Warped Vision” is an exemplary exercise of practised veterans creating a masterpiece. The album’s foundations are laid down by riff-focused heaviness and breakouts combined with a multitude of chilled vibes. What makes “Warped Vision” stick out from a host of similar recordings is the precision with which each hook hits home and sticks, a dynamic balance of rough edges and catchy melodies.

The city of Bradford in West Yorkshire is neither particularly arid nor situated in a warm climate. But although hailing from the former industrial heartlands of rainy Northern England, PSYCHLONA have developed a particularly British brand of desert rock. Some hot summer days of 2016 inspired some local musicians to fry up some sonic ideas from sunny California of decades past and to blend in the raw energy of UK punk, a dash of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and spoonfuls of classic English 60s and 70s psychedelia. When this experiment far exceeded their own expectations, PSYCHLONA were born.

In November 2018, when English towns turn bleak and cold, their sun-drenched debut album “Mojo Rising” made ears prick up and set them firmly on the path for the prolific following years.

The hardworking Englishmen released their sophomore full-length “Venus Skytrip” in August 2020, an album received with rave reviews across the heavy rock underground and which landed PSYCHLONA their first number one on the Doom Charts. It also reserved them spots high up on several important end-of-year lists.

Gathering momentum, the British stoner rockers unveiled third album “Palo Verde” two years later in August 2022 and immediately scored a second 10/10 review in Powerplay Magazine UK.

During these years, PSYCHLONA also established themselves as an impressive live act. Relentless touring and performing at prestigious festivals that included Desertfest (UK & DE), Freak Valley (DE), SonicBlast (PT), Alcatraz Music (BE), Sonic Whip (NL), and at Psycho Las Vegas (US) pushed the Brits higher up the billings. An incident in Las Vegas when they were the only band asked by the casino manager to please turn down the volume only fueled their upward trajectory.

Now, PSYCHLONA are ready to take the next big step. Welcoming two new members aboard the band has added a new dynamic both in writing and recording. The gentle alterations brought about by their fresh input has turned “Warped Vision” into what is clearly the most complete and thrilling album of the psychedelic desert rockers so far. With “Warped Vision”, PSYCHLONA have hit the jackpot, and they are generously offering up rounds for everyone. Cheers!

MARTIN RUBASHOV Returns with New Single ‘Mires’ from Upcoming Album “Origins Of Water”

On his new album, ”Origins of Water”, Martin Rubashov (known from Nolavær, that features  Anders  Fridén from In Flames) delves deep into the essence of water, exploring its duality as both a life-giving force and a harbinger of destruction. Through a mesmerizing blend of melodies and lyrics,  Rubashov  invites listeners on a journey to uncover the secrets hidden within the fluid embrace of nature’s most precious resource.

About his new single he had this to say:

“Back to basics with my acoustic nylon-string guitar. The mires hold secrets, and the song is about grounding yourself with water—letting go of old stories and renewing yourself, like being reborn.”

Order and stream ‘Mires’ here: https://ingrv.es/mires-8w2-e

From the tranquil trickle of a babbling brook, the hidden mires and to the open sea, each track on the album captures a different facet of water’s enigmatic character. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences and universal truths, Rubashov weaves a narrative that transcends time and space, touching upon themes of renewal, loss, and the interconnectedness of all living things.

At its core, *Origins of Water* is a meditation on humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Through haunting melodies and evocative lyrics, Rubashov confronts the harsh reality of water’s exploitation and pollution, urging listeners to contemplate the consequences of their actions and strive for a more harmonious existence with the planet.

From the haunting track ”Mires” to the anthemic “Elemental” each track on “Origins of Water” serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility and resilience of life. Guitar driven and thought-provoking lyrics, the album stands as a testament to the power of music to inspire change and ignite the soul.

As listeners immerse themselves in the ethereal soundscape of “Origins of Water”, they are transported to a realm where time stands still, and the boundaries between the physical and spiritual worlds blur. In this transcendent space, Rubashov invites us to confront our deepest fears and desires, ultimately emerging transformed and renewed, like a drop of water returning to the vast ocean of existence.

The new single “Mires” is released 13th of September 2024, via Despotz Records. His new album “Origins Of Water” will be released November 22, 2024, on digital and physical media.

Industrial Noise Trio TAYNE Release New Single And Video ‘Down’

London-based creators of beauty and chaos, Tayne, have released their exciting new single, ‘Down’, giving another taste of their highly anticipated debut album.

Matthew Sutton (vocals/bass) explains: “We wanted to take Tayne into a new territory that felt modern and give it more pop sensibilities. ‘Down’ embodies the core theme of the album, love is conflict. ‘Our lust for hurt is love’s metaphor’ –  desires of love and acceptance destroyed by intimidation, make us fake, afraid, lie and cause pain.”

Stream on all platforms:  https://fanlink.tv/taynedown

‘Down’ is the first video in a trilogy leading the visual narrative throughout the music directed by Leif Johnson, a member of London based video collective NEWD.

Leif comments: “The story behind the three Tayne music videos was so compelling and unique. As a director, I’m interested in people and stories, as well as beautiful compelling aesthetics. The themes explored within Tayne songs come from a real story that has multiple angles, through the point of view of Matthew Sutton and his experiences as the son of a gay father at a time in Ireland. All this when Irish laws prohibited homosexuality, the personal and political struggles for both the LGBTQ+ community as well as their families. It’s important to remember how far we have come and how all camps should work and collaborate for wider understanding, acceptance and ultimately love. Growing up as the older loving brother to a lesbian sister, I was very close and in-tune with her journey from being the my sweet little sis who felt detached from the world, to the strong woman she is today. I feel it’s also important to have the understanding and patience needed to educate people as the world evolves around them.”

Sutton adds: “The artwork and music videos leaned into telling a story based on my own father’s conflicts with love. My dad being a family man, married with kids and then realising he was gay, coming out, navigating those tribulations and transforming his life and finding love and acceptance again. The three acts of the story were broken into each individual video. The Conflict, The Transformation & The Acceptance / Celebration.

“‘Down’ examines my dad’s “conflict” in love, the focus in this case deals with his sexuality. Being married in a heterosexual relationship but understanding the reality of being gay man is a big conflict. I can’t imagine the tension and angst that must’ve brought. “My whole existence stems from a massive conflict in love, that of my mom and dad’s relationship it’s really profound but I’m very grateful for it.”

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX Announce New Double Album “The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature” + “Horrific Honorifics Number Two (2)”

When the world drowns its sorrows in silence, Crippled Black Phoenix scream into the abyss. Since its inception in 2004, the UK band served as a voice for the voiceless, whether they be animals, the unequal or the different. This year, Justin Greaves (ex Iron Monkey and Electric Wizard), long-time vocalist Belinda Kordic and their many collaborators are celebrating 20 years of shedding light on our troubled existence by releasing a new, two-part compilation.

Horrific Honorifics Number Two(2) continues Crippled Black Phoenix’s tradition of haunting homages with covers that span from Fugazi and Laura Branigan to NoMeansNo, Deep Purple and Built to Spill. The Wolf Changes Its Fut But Not Its Nature offers something different. This disc collects reworked versions of CBP’s early signature songs, including “Goodnight, Europe”, which was the first song that Greaves ever wrote for the band.

The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature and Horrific Honorifics Number Two (2) come out November 29 on Season of Mist.

While originally posted to MySpace after watching Eurovision, “Goodnight, Europe” has become a staple of Cripple Black Phoenix’s live set. The reworked version on The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature reflects how the song has changed with each performance over the past 20 years. The darker, gloomier “Goodnight, Europe (Pt2)” swells like Europe’s fractured landscape. Kordic threads through the shadows with eerie melancholy, as if haunted by the nostalgia for what once was.

“It’s almost impossible to choose which songs to pay respect to”, Greaves says about this new compilation. “There’s still respect for the original version but ‘Goodnight Europe’ needed to be re-imagined in the studio because of what the song has become over time and what it’s now come to represent. Our close friends – both old and new – add more righteous power to these recordings”.

The thread that binds CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s bold and towering discography — a dozen studio albums, a half-dozen mini-albums, a handful of compilations and swaths of bootlegs — could not be more apropos circa 2022. Since its 2004 creation by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Justin Greaves, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX has served as the voice for the voiceless, whether it be animals, the unequal and the different. Greaves and longstanding vocalist and lyricist Belinda Kordic have often proffered that these beings cannot fend for themselves. Henceforth, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s mission has been to shed light on the human condition and the inequalities that befall humankind and its creatures. Their battle marches on with their latest studio album, Banefyre.

Banefyre follows 2020’s Ellengæst — an effort that found CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX employ a series of notable guest vocalists alongside Kordic, prompting Metal Hammer to describe it as their “most cohesive and emotionally devastating record.” Kordic is now paired with Swedish vocalist Joel Segerstedt, who made his CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX debut last year via the “Painful Reminder/Dead is Dead” single. Piano, synth and trumpet player Helen Stanley and additional guitarist Andy Taylor complete the lineup. Greaves says Stanley and Taylor “fit so well creatively,” which has made CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX feel like a band when making plans and decisions.

Also central to this is Segerstedt. According to Kordic, the vocalist and lyricist lives a mere five minutes from her in Sweden and has quickly integrated himself into the band. “What I like about Joel is that he’s a good person,” she says. “There’s no fakeness with him; he has cajones. He’s not a bitch-talker, either. I can’t handle people who don’t have a backbone, but Joel is real and can speak his mind.”

“I like how Joel has come in and spoke for himself,” adds Greaves. “He’s in the band for the right reasons. I see him the same way as Belinda — she took an interest in the whole artistic thing behind CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, like the vocals, lyrics, artwork and aesthetic. It’s the same with Joel. He has taken an interest in all of those things. In the past, we had people who didn’t contribute artistically and only cared about what they got out of the band. But Joel is really proactive and takes the initiative.”

Greaves assembled 13 songs (including “No Regrets,” a bonus track for his new project with Kordic, Johnny the Boy) imbued with the depth and introspection that will reinforce CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s standing as a band that defies genre. The album was tracked at Chapel Studios in South Thoresby, Lincolnshire, with vocals cut at Monolith Studio and Kapsylen Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. Kurt Ballou handled mixing in GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts — a pivotal move in determining the album’s overall sound.

“I love the album so much because it was a different approach with the production,” says Greaves. “For my part, it was a little bit of a reaction. I didn’t want to do the same warm, safe CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX album. I’m aware that when we did [2012’s] I, Vigilante, everyone wanted I, Vigilante again. As it so often happens with this band, people complain about the next one, then grow into it. Ellengæst is like I, Vigilante. It’s a shorter album. It hit the mark and was done really well, but everyone will expect another Ellengæst. I feared that, but I care enough not to make another Ellengæst. It’s the right thing to do. That’s why we got Kurt to mix it — we wanted that analog, raw power. Even though the album has mellow moments, those are edgy as well. We just didn’t want to do the same album twice. We’re never going to be a band that people can rely on.”

Greaves’ summation of his band notwithstanding, his distinctive guitar playing and enduring knack for immersive songwriting is the propellent behind the haunting, chant-laden “Ghostland,” pensive “The Reckoning” and forlorn “Everything is Beautiful but Us,” the band’s spot-on analysis of the retreat of humankind indoors during the pandemic that revealed nature’s priceless beauty. The album is also stocked with no less than four ten-minute-plus cuts (“Rose of Jericho,” “Down the Rabbit Hole,” “I’m Okay, Just Not Alright” and “The Scene is a False Prophet”) that are intermixed with drama and melancholy.

It all ties into Banefyre’s central theme of the persecution of people who are deemed “different” by society. The album title is a play on the song “Bonefire” that Kordic named and wrote lyrics for. In classic CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX fashion, Greaves turned it into the Olde English translation to represent the bonfires that engulfed witches and politicians through the 15th and 18th centuries, hence, the name Banefyre.

The album begins with “Incantation for the Different,” which was written and orated by Chicago-based witch, artist, author and occultist Shane Bugbee, who, according to Greaves, “brought us some positive, dark energy.” Banefyre then delves into the Salem Witch Trials (“Wyches and Basterdz”), fox hunting in Great Britain (“The Reckoning”), politicians of an unscrupulous and dishonest kind (“Bonefire”) and the New York City Blackout of 1977 (“Blackout77”).

Greaves says Banefyre’s topics may have a decidedly negative and pessimistic tone, but a glimmer of hope and joy remains. “There’s always the random bits, but overall, Banefyre is about the people who have suffered because they are different. The album covers inequality and oppression, like ‘Incantation for the Different,’ which is about overcoming when you’re put down because you’re not like everyone else.”

In true CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX fashion, the Lucy Marshall-created Banefyre cover leaves plenty to the imagination, depicting four animals seated at a table — interacting and dressed like human beings. “It’s sort of like Planet of the Apes showing what animals could do to humans,” says Greaves. “The cover was specially commissioned and is unique to the album. It’s incorporating all the classic CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX elements with the love for animals and twisting the narrative around.”

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s reputation was built on the back of their studio albums and live shows. The pandemic prevented the band from supporting Ellengæst, but it did provide them additional time to bring in new members to their live configuration.

“We’ve done one show since 2019,” says Greaves. “We are going to do something in Europe this year. Hopefully, we can get back on track. We’re also going to do something in the States — that’s not just talk, we’re actually going to do it. It’s well overdue. The live band is fucking amazing. We have the five of us and now we have Jordi [Farré] on drums, Paco [Fleischfresser] on synth and a really good friend of mine, Matt Crawford on bass.

“We did the Leipzig show and even though the rehearsals were better than the show itself, that lineup, our live band, is so good. Because we haven’t been under pressure to put a live band together since 2019 and spent so long talking to people, we’ve got a better band from those results. Out of disaster, we’ve got quite a good, positive thing.”

Anticipation is building for the release of KING SATAN‘s fourth studio album, “The Devil’s Evangelion”, set to debut on November 8, 2024 under the banner of Noble Demon. Today, the industrial metal outfit has unveiled the second pre-release single from the upcoming album, titled “Chaos Forever Now”, along with a brand new and animated music video directed by the band’s vocalist King Aleister Satan. The track features a stellar and blasphemous collaboration with industrial-techno masters NACHTMAHR, adding an extra layer of sonic intensity to the band’s already dynamic sound.

Listen to the single HERE

Reflecting on the themes behind “Chaos Forever Now”, King Aleister Satan shares: ”I thought it would be about a time to get one of the most notorious mass murderers arrested and brought to the justice. I mean that character still has lots and lots of followers who turns blind eye on his crimes against humanity and the nature, mostly because of fear, which I of course understand because the number of his victims and quality of his cruelty is almost unimaginable. But no more! We asked our friends from Austrian industrial-techno masters NACHTMAHR to help us with this quest, and we are truly honored that they answered the call – which you all can see and hear with the 2nd single ’Chaos Forever Now’, from our upcoming album.”

Delving deeper into the musical and conceptual realms, King Aleister Satan teases details about the forthcoming album: “The Devil’s Evangelion will be a concept album concentrating on the duality and the paradoxical nature of reality. This concept stems from a trickster-like narrative that becomes convinced about being possessed by the Devil, leading to an experience of reality through the Devil’s eyes.“

Furthermore, KING SATAN is set to celebrate the album release on the following dates, featuring performances from The Abbey, Miseria Ultima, and Pracidisti, along with a special pre-launch party where King Satan will support Fear of Domination:
11/10 Joensuu – Kerubi  (pre-launch) *
30/11 Tampere – Bar Kotelo **
07/12 Helsinki – Kuudes Linja **
10/01 Turku – Utopia **
17/01 Kuopio – Ottopoika ***
18/01 Oulu – 45 Special ****
* King Satan supports Fear of Domination
** The Abbey & Miseria Ultima as supports
*** Without The Abbey
**** with The Abbey & Praecidisti

Founded in late 2015, KING SATAN presents a genre-fluid extreme metal spectacle that fuses electro-industrial, symphonic black metal, and death metal elements with the raw energy of rock’n’roll, emerging as a unique blend between shameless shock rock and chaotic avant-garde theater.

This genre-fluid group is the brainchild of enigmatic artist Mr. King Aleister Satan (Henget, Saturnian Mist), which has evolved from its electro-aggrotech origins into a full-throttle industrial metal band over the years. The act’s vision of extreme metal brings forth an anarchistic blend of carnivalesque artistry, absurdist dark comedy, occult intrigue, and in-depth philosophical ponderings, served in an intoxicating blend of rocking dance beats, thought-provoking lyrics, mesmerizing melodies, and addictive hooks the band themselves have titled as ‘death metal disco’. A fusion fit for both dance floors and mosh pits. With all these elements, the band defies conventions and embraces controversy the way which should not really make much sense on paper – and yet, it has consistently helped to create more and more buzz for the band wherever they go.

But KING SATAN is more than just a mere musical entity; Known for their infectious charisma and captivating performances, it’s a live experience that electrifies stages and captivates audiences. With a reputation solidified by three full-length albums and viral chart-climbing singles in Finland and Germany, they’ve graced renowned festivals like Tuska Festival, Nummirock Metal Festival and Dark Malta Festival. The group has also toured in Europe in several countries, headlining their own shows and supporting revered acts like Gothminister, Deathstars, Battle Beast, Hocico, Nachtmahr, and Turmion Kätilöt on the way.
