BIZARREKULT Releases Cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Useless’

Amidst both the icy solitude of Siberia’s winters and the haunting desolation of the Norwegian landscape, Roman V – the lone mastermind behind BIZARREKULT – found solace in “Useless”, a song that emerged more than 20 years ago during a dark and despairing time for global pop stars Depeche Mode.

“I found myself losing control of my life, immersed in a seemingly endless series of dramatic events that worsened each day,” Roman reflects. “In those dark days, ‘Useless’ became a perfect companion, a soundtrack to my struggle, echoing my tired and bruised existence but still standing, battling the abyss.”

Listen to the post-black metal mastermind perform a haunting cover of “Useless” by Depeche Mode at https://orcd.co/bizarrekultuseless

Bizarrekult’s cover of “Useless” serves as a convergence of two seemingly disparate musical worlds. Roman V weaves the melancholic threads of Depeche Mode into his visceral tapestry of black metal, which resembles Wiedgedood and Paradise Lost. His guides—Alexander on drums, Ignat on guitar, Magnus (Myrvandrer) on bass, and the newly inducted Jørgen Norby (Obzene) – cast growls, shrieks, and screams, like shadows upon a wall.

Bizarrekult’s second album Den Tapte Krigen is now available on Season of Mist.

Since the genre’s inception, black metal has been ruled by lone wolves. Individuals who blur the lines between “masterminds” and “madmen,” creating in solitude and willful confinement. From first and second wave purveyors such as BATHORY to this century’s revivalists like SAOR and PANOPTICON, these anomic souls have made incomparable contributions to the dark arts. And in 2022, BIZARREKULT paves a new yet familiar path, establishing itself as one of the cult visionaries of this decade.

Before finding his way to music, multi-instrumentalist Roman V was first a poet. Since childhood, Roman found an outlet in writing and by 2006, he created BIZARREKULT as an auditory accompaniment to his verbal expressions. “BIZARREKULT since the beginning was a quest of identity and philosophical search for answers on the questions that bother the mind at night and day,” explains Roman.

Despite the project’s inception 16 years ago, BIZARREKULT’s music did not make its debut until the release of ‘Vi Overlevde’ in 2021. As he started feeling challenged by the declining state of the world, Roman pursued a new path and decided to go straight to the environment that incubated and birthed the genre that he loves. As he relocated from Siberia to his current home of Norway, his new surroundings had its intended purpose and greatly impacted his musical journey. “After some initial recordings the project was set aside in order to deal with increasing mass challenges from the surrounding world. And then it ended up getting a spark a decade later in a different environment, nature, language and culture. So distant, but so close. Norway has become my second home and the last few years that led to revitalization of BIZARREKULT were spent on reflecting on myself, meaning, purpose and reuniting with the things that were important – art and creativity.”

Meaning “We Survived,” ‘Vi Overlevde’ was a very intimate, vulnerable, and personal offering. Roman describes the record as “a testament to survival through personal crisis” and notes that it is “filled with reflections on childhood, family and societal relations.” The musician took care to ensure that the record delivered a comprehensive package, aligning the music, artwork, and lyrics with exact precision.

As the world was collectively reckoning with the turmoil of year two of a global pandemic, the album’s message gave many hope. Fans started to emerge, reacting to the record with their own artistic interpretations as a way to pay tribute. The album also won the hearts of the media, appearing on a handful of “album of the year” lists, including scoring a third place position from Sweden’s biggest newspaper, Aftonbladet.

Now, BIZARREKULT is ready to enter a new chapter, forging a new union with Season of Mist and completing the work on its sophomore full-length, ‘Den Tapte Krigen.’ Meaning “The Lost War,” ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ thematically picks up the thread from where ‘Vi Overlevde” left off, but sees a musical evolution as BIZARREKULT continues to find and establish its identity. “The main message of ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ is about a constant war inside our lives, war with ourselves, our closest ones, our societies,” says Roman. “It’s a war in which we can lose everything, including our personality, faith, honour and dignity. However, similar to ‘Vi Overlevde’ that ends on a rather positive note, ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ contains a message of hope and reconnection, of necessity to make a peace with yourself, accept what you are, your identity, and share forgiveness and love. This is the only way out of the vicious circle.”

Horror punk warriors Mourning Noise, featuring Samhain/Danzig member Steve Zing, bassist Chris Morance, guitarist Tommy Koprowski and vocalist Robby Bloodshed has released the third electrifying music video titled “Misery Loves Me” off their monster new studio album Screams/ Dreams via Cleopatra Records.

Steve Zing describes “Misery Loves Me” as “Sometimes, hands reach out and we still can’t pull our loved ones from the Shadows.” The music video was taken at the Prudential Center Arena in New Jersey opening for the Misfits in 2023.

“I want fans to see the progression of Kids from 40 years ago and that we can keep the same vein of punk going and still maintain the power in the music with the sound of today.” – Steve Zing

“Mourning Noise is the result of many years of progressing and being influenced by different things over the past 40 years and also having someone as young as Robby Bloodshed contribute to something that I started when I was in high school.” – Steve Zing

About Mourning Noise:

Mourning Noise was founded by Zing in the early ‘80s and carried the torch of Misfits-styled gothic horrorcore before taking a somewhat less than brief hiatus in 1984. Now, 40 years later, the band is back and better than ever with a long-awaited new studio album released on June 7.

Screams/Dreams finds Zing and the boys going full throttle for this all-original album with go-for-the-throat guitar riffs, head smashing percussion frenzies, and dramatically dark lyrics.

Screams/ Dreams is available on all formats including CD, vinyl, cassette and all streaming platforms.

ABOUT NAILS:

For the first time in over 8 years, the blistering assault on our nervous system that can only be described as the sound of NAILS, has reemerged. With Carlos Cruz on drums, Andrew Solis on Bass, Shelby Lermo on Guitars, and Todd Jones on guitar & vocals, the upcoming studio album, EVERY BRIDGE BURNING, will be revealed August 30th, 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The album artwork, a creation by Jef Whitehead, serves as a visual prelude to the auditory chaos—a stark representation of the aural brutality that NAILS delivers.

Recording for the album commenced in Massachusetts at God City Studio with Kurt Ballou (of CONVERGE), whose contribution is integral to the NAILS sound, as elucidated by Jones: “we’ve recorded every album with Kurt. He’s such an important ingredient as to how we present our music. When our fans want to hear NAILS, they want to hear something that is through the filter of Kurt’s engineering.”

EVERY BRIDGE BURNING was born out of unwavering dedication to NAILS fans and the underground music scene. It echoes their commitment to authenticity and raw power. NAILS remains a beacon of rebellion and resilience in a world hungry for genuine expression. With no shortage of effort or meticulous song arrangement, the time has arrived to become engulfed in the ferocity of NAILS once again as EVERY BRIDGE BURNINGunveils a new, but familiar chapter in extreme music.

“This band was modeled after some of my favorite bands; the type of bands where, when they put out an album, you know what it’s going to sound like,” describes Jones, “it’s the delivery of the expectation.” The sensory destroying musical onslaught that we’ve all been missing is back. NAILS is Todd Jones, Carlos Cruz, Andrew Solis, and Shelby Lermo.

RICK WAKEMAN Announces Final One Man Solo Tour in October, Highlighting YES + His Solo Work

The ultimate keyboard wizard, Rick Wakeman CBE, will be embarking on a tour of the US with a series of solo piano concerts for the last time in 2024. Rick, who has become almost as well-known for his intimate piano shows as his prog rock extravaganzas, has decided that after a career spanning over 50 years, he is calling a halt to lengthy American one-man show tours, in order to concentrate on composing, recording and collaborating with other musicians.

As an exclusive gift for fans, on these shows Rick will be premiering a brand new piece of music: Yessonata, a 30-minute instrumental work featuring YES themes and melodies, woven into sonata form. For the first time, Yessonata will also be available to purchase in vinyl format on the fall tour.

Rick first started establishing a reputation as one of rock’s most original and proficient keyboard players in the late Sixties, when he worked with the likes of David Bowie, Cat Stevens, Marc Bolan, Lou Reed, Al Stewart, Elton John and other artists too numerous to mention, as a much-in-demand session player. He stepped out of the recording studio and into the limelight when he first joined the Strawbs and then YES, helping to make the latter the most successful progressive rock band in the world by contributing to seminal albums such as Fragile and Close To The Edge.

But outside of YES, Rick was really able to unleash his creativity with a series of groundbreaking concept albums: The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, which have been performed in large-scale shows featuring bands, orchestras and choirs.

However, he is equally at home as a solo artist in the upclose environment of concert halls, performing music on a piano – both his own and tunes that have a special resonance for him – and recounting wickedly funny stories taken from the length of his career. In recent years, he has added a rack of electric keyboards to ring the changes and enable him to enlarge his live solo repertoire.

Now, for the last time in 2024, Rick will be taking to the road in the US with an all-new solo piano and keyboard show, featuring the premiere of a stunning new work. Don’t miss this final opportunity to enjoy an evening of great music and hilarious stories, delivered by one of the truly legendary figures of rock music.

A STATEMENT FROM RICK:

“I always planned to stop touring by my 77th birthday – for those of you who wish to send me a card, it’s 18th May! – but there is so much to fit in before then that I’m having to make plans now and so my final one-man shows will have to cease by that date.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed performing the various one-man shows, but it’s time to call it a day. I intend to throw in the best of what I have done in the past, plus a few new surprises on the way, and possibly even the odd guest joining me on the odd occasion.”

“The plan is not to perform at the same venue twice throughout this period, so whatever venue you are hopefully thinking of coming to, it will be the last performance there – and I am taking this opportunity of thanking everyone and anyone who has supported me over the last 53 years!”

LORD OF THE LOST Release Live Rendition of ‘Herz An Herz’ + ‘The Look’ Feat. German 90s Superstar Blümchen

LORD OF THE LOST have revealed their live cover versions of “Herz An Herz” (Blümchen) and “The Look” (Roxette), cut from their upcoming live album, LIVE at W:O:A, out August 2, 2024 via Napalm Records and including a guest performance of none other than German 90s star Blümchen on both songs!

After two European tours with Iron Maiden, participation in the Eurovision Song Contest finals, a #1 charting album, and an almost completely sold out European tour, the band played their first ever mainstage performance at Wacken Open Air in 2023, when they closed the festival day as “deadliners” after Iron Maiden. The set was recorded and will be released as Live at W:O:A, which is “a dream come true”, as Chris Harms stated during the show.

LORD OF THE LOST state:
“We went on tour with Iron Maiden, performed with a symphony orchestra at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, took part in the Eurovision Song Contest Finals, and played the main stage at Wacken together with Blümchen – all within one year. If you realize this, then you truly understand everything about the band. The highest possible dynamics of emotions – this is 100% our way, and we will continue to do exactly that!”

LORD OF THE LOST topped the Official German Album Charts with their previous albums (Blood & Glitter landing at #1 and Weapons Of Mass Seduction at #2 on the Official German Album Charts), and the band’s career has skyrocketed in recent years, bringing LORD OF THE LOST to the attention of much larger audiences and to huge stages. To celebrate the release off their new offering LIVE at W:O:A, the band teamed up with Metal Hammer UK recently for an extra-special bundle cover with a limited amount of 300 issues worldwide.

Get your copy of LIVE at W:O:A NOW

LIVE at W:O:A blends old fan favorites (such as “Drag Me To Hell” and “Loreley”) and hits from newer releases, including the title track “Blood & Glitter” as well as the Roxette cover “The Look” from the #1 charting latest studio album Blood & Glitter (Official German Album Charts). Blümchen’s legendary version of Paso Doble’s “Herz An Herz” is another entertaining addition.

Breaking the charts and playing the main stage at Wacken are just some of LORD OF THE LOST’s many 2023 highlights – the band represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest finals in Liverpool, performing to more than 150 million live viewers, and received plenty of attention from huge mainstream media outlets simultaneously. LORD OF THE LOST even performed for King Charles III, sold out several headline shows and played many other big festival stages alongside the riveting Wacken performance.

With 15 years of band history, over 500 shows in nearly 40 countries, eight studio albums, three ensemble albums with orchestra and close to 60 music videos – LORD OF THE LOST have proven to be a creative machine that has paved its own way through the musical landscape over the years, without ever being stuck to just one genre or scene. Successor to the electrifying covers album Weapons Of Mass Seduction (2023, #2 on the Official German Album Charts), LIVE at W:O:A might well be LORD OF THE LOST’s last release as a five-piece, as the band gained an official sixth member in spring 2024. It is clear that following their busiest, most successful times as a band so far, LORD OF THE LOST is better than ever and still moving forward at full-speed.
