Dive into the darkest realms of the human psyche as BENIGHTED, the French purveyors of brutal death metal & grindcore, unleash their tenth full-length album Ekbomin April 2024. The madness that has defined their discography continues with this radical soundtrack to the twisted times we inhabit.

Born from French Death and Black metal bands DISHUMANIZED, DARKNESS FIRE, and OSGILIATH, BENIGHTED emerged in 1998 with a mission to explore a more brutal, heavy, and modern form of musical expression. The impact of their first self-produced and self-titled full-length album in 2000 transformed BENIGHTED from a side-project into a main act, quickly amassing a devoted fan base. Subsequent albums like Psychose (2002), Insane Cephalic Production (2004), Identisick (2006), and Icon (2007) further cemented their visceral, skull-breaking sound into extreme death metal history.

After a detour into the realms of Necrobreed in 2017, BENIGHTED celebrated their 20th anniversary by capturing the live madness with Dogs Always Bite Harder Than Their Master in 2018.

With Obscene Repressed, they once again took sadistic pleasure in pushing the boundaries of brutality, delving into the disturbed mind of little Michael. His relentless battle against demons, fueled by unresolved oedipal issues with his mother, provided a grotesque tableau for BENIGHTED‘s sonic butchery. Not content with merely slaughtering everything in their auditory path, BENIGHTED crafted thematically explorative pieces, each turn in their music revealing new layers of horror and despair.

As the relentless journey continues, BENIGHTED is set to unleash Ekbom in April 2024, an album that draws inspiration from the nightmarish ‘Ekbom syndrome.’ This rare neurological disorder, also known as Delusional Parasitosis, forms the thematic core of the upcoming release. A feeling of having a vile concoction of parasites, worms, and insects crawling under your skin is an apt description of what BENIGHTED have to offer on this newest release. The auditory assault mirrors the repulsive sensations of the syndrome, a visceral and unsettling journey into the abyss of the human mind.

Madness reigns yet again, this time intertwining with the haunting echoes of Ekbom syndrome. Brace yourselves for another mind-shattering chapter in the BENIGHTEDsaga as they continue to carve their niche in the putrid annals of extreme metal, leaving a trail of sonic disgust in their wake.

ARTEMISIA Release New Video Single ‘Ciò che l’acqua mi ha dato’, Inspired by the Universe of Frida Kahlo

Available now on all digital platforms, “Ciò che l’acqua mi ha dato” is the brand-new single by Italian heavy rock band ARTEMISIA, released by Volcano Records.

With this new track, the long-running Italian band returns to explore intense and profound sonic territories, moving between heavy metal and progressive rock through a distinctive formula that blends power, experimentation, and storytelling. The result is a compelling piece that further strengthens ArtemisiA’s unmistakable artistic identity. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s 1938 painting of the same name, the single transforms the artwork’s powerful symbolism into music, where water becomes a reflective surface of the unconscious — a vessel of memory, pain, and identity. Much like the Mexican artist’s vision, body and mind merge into a suspended space where obsessions, fragility, and deeper truths emerge.

Musically, “Ciò che l’acqua mi ha dato” strikes a balance between heavy-driven power, dark atmospheres, and progressive structures, preserving the evocative intensity that has always been a defining element of ArtemisiA’s songwriting. The track unfolds as an introspective journey, inviting listeners to dive into the unconscious and confront whatever rises back to the surface. Alongside the release, the official music video is now available on YouTube, featuring a combination of live footage and studio sessions that captures the band’s raw energy and artistic essence. The video highlights the intensity, chemistry, and emotional depth that stand at the core of both the song and ArtemisiA’s creative vision.

Founded in 2006 by Vito Flebus and Anna Ballarin, ArtemisiA have built a recognizable identity over the years through dark atmospheres, literary influences, and a powerful live presence. After six albums and important collaborations, including one with Omar Pedrini, the band is currently working on their new full-length album, set for release this September via Volcano Records, with this single serving as a significant preview of what’s to come.

Brutally Delicious Release VINYL JUMPERS’ 22-Minute Heavy Metal Audio Drama “Dawn Of Victory”

Brutally Delicious announces the release of its first original heavy metal audio drama, a 22-minute immersive production that merges narrative storytelling with the intensity and atmosphere of extreme metal.

The story follows a group of teenagers who discover a 19th century Victrola containing a hidden Latin incantation. When spoken, the phrase activates the device, transporting them into the world of whatever song is playing. Each track becomes a fully realized environment, where the characters must navigate hostile, shifting realities and survive until the music ends.

Failure is not an option. If the song finishes before they escape, they do not return.

The production features voice performances from members of Cruachan, Melechesh, and Caster Volor, bringing authentic metal presence and vocal intensity directly into the narrative. Each performance helps shape the tone and identity of the worlds the characters are pulled into, blurring the line between soundtrack and story.

Written, recorded, and produced by Bruce Moore of Brutally Delicious, the project draws from metal’s deep thematic roots, mythology, history, and existential tension, while presenting them in a cinematic, story-driven format.

Audio mixing and foley by Annabelle Kyle create a dense, immersive soundscape that places the listener inside the environment, while visuals by Noah Riopel extend the experience beyond audio, offering a surreal and evolving visual counterpart to the narrative.

The result is a hybrid of audio drama and metal experience that pushes beyond traditional genre boundaries.

MISCREANCE Announce Mind-Altering Second Album “Reminiscence”, Video for Blood-Thirsty Single ‘Scalp Ceremony’ Out Now

Fashioned in high-top sneakers and sleeveless band tees, Northern Italy’s Miscreance proudly reflect the old-school spirit. Upon debuting with Season of Mist in 2022, the band were likened by the press to Death, Sadus, Voivod and other undying greats from the alternate timeline that is the history of extreme metal. But their upcoming second LP isn’t just another blast from the past.

Today, Miscreance are announcing their new album, Reminiscence, with a chilling music video for its lead single “Scalp Ceremony”. The band continue to pound and shred at a blood-thirsty pace, but as they cut through its  unfamiliar passages, the song ventures into dark and strange new territory for the genre.

“Through a collective hallucination, a voyage through time led us to discover a moment in human history that was lost”, Miscreance says about the far-out path they took to Reminiscence. “This album is a testimony of what we have seen, heard, perceived and imagined, told through our own perspective on old-school, thrashy, technical death metal”.

The video for “Scalp Ceremony” was created by Tulpa Studio in Ferrara, Italy.

Reminiscence comes out August 28, 2026 on Season of Mist. Pre-order & Pre-save: https://orcd.co/miscreancereminiscence

Even extreme and obscene artists like Miscreance are well-versed in the classics. With its creepy, cultish, handcam video, underground tape collectors will feel at home watching “Scalp Ceremony”. “We still play old-school tech-thrash”, assures guitarist Andrea Granauro. But while faithful to both Atheist and Dark Angel,  Reminiscence isn’t an attempt to recall metal’s glory days. With each sharp and fast turn that the band take during their new single, the genre’s signposts warp until they’re  unrecognizable.

“No one ever even sees it comes”, growls drummer Andrea Feltrin with murderous delight. For their final sacrifice on “Scalp Ceremony”, Miscreance bang the long-haired heads of their captive audience with a flurry of bongos.

While recorded in Italy, Miscreance discovered the concept for Reminiscence by sifting through the sands of time. Along with splintering riffs and trippy tempo shifts, the band uncovered a hidden world where jungle-dwelling hunters and digeridoo coexist with strange tongues, telepathic surgeries and a burning celestial corpse. As imagined by Iranian artist Mona Shiraz, the album’s cover art is a modern interpretation of the kind of painting that was all the rage during the Stone Age.

“We are all very happy with how our first album turned out but we wanted to go bigger by tying Reminiscence to a specific concept”, guitarist Tommaso Cappelletti says.

Bassist Jean-Claude Rossignol explains further. “What we’ve created is a ‘lost album’, sent from an unknown civilization that’s both futuristic and extremely primitive. Through psychic powers and capabilities that transcend earthly comprehension, these primordial extraterrestrials have achieved total neural unity. Yet innate wickedness still lures inside of them, harboring the need for preys, scalps and lust”.

Tracklist

1. Trait d’Union (4:31)
2. Vision (3:59)
3. Scalp Ceremony (3:14)
4. Synaptic Cortex Dissection (5:02)
5. Oracle’s Rift (5:06)
6. The Moaning Hill (2:45)
7. Symbiosis (4:12)
8. Zenith of a Dying Sun (4:19)
9. Mirage (4:27)

As is the custom in Italy, even the most obscene artists are well-versed in the classics.

Upon signing with Season of Mist in 2022, Northern Italia’s Miscreance were likened to Death, Sadus and other undying greats from the alternate timeline that is the history of extreme metal. Fashioned in high-top sneakers and sleeveless band shirts, bassist Jean-Claude Rossignol, guitarists Andrea Granauro and Tommaso Cappelletti, and drummer/vocalist Andrea Feltrin proudly reflect the genre’s old-school spirit. But while its tech-thrash riffs and proggy tempo shifts will remind battle-tested heshers of the golden years, their second album isn’t just another blast from the past.

“Through a collective hallucination, a voyage through time led us to discover a moment in human history that was lost”, the band says about the far-out path they took to their new album. “Reminiscence is a testimony of what we have seen, heard, perceived and imagined, told through our own perspective on old-school, thrashy, technical death metal”.

In 2018, Miscreance quickly emerged onto the metal scene as a welcome mutation. While their initial incubation period under prior name Atomic Massacre fit the mold of Slayer, Kreator and Sodom, the band turned their morbid fascination with classic horror films and late ‘80s to early ‘90s tech-thrash into a debut that, while faithful to both Atheist and Dark Angel, gave the OSDM revival a much-needed jump scare. Convergence not only drew the favor of France’s premiere metal label but also attention from Decibel, New Noise and other international press.

“We’re left wondering how band members who look so young also seem so well-steeped in so many different genre influences, and how technically masterful and wildly inventive they are in their songwriting”, No Clean Singing wrote upon the album’s release in 2022. “They seem inherently resistant to taking the easy way forward, and equally resistant to just mimicking their most prominent thrash metal forebearers”.

Reminiscence isn’t an attempt to recall metal’s glory days. Opener “Trait d’Union’ doesn’t begin with blast beats but funky, bouncing, tribal percussion one associates with a time long before the dawn of Charvel guitars. “We still play old-school tech-thrash”, assures Granauro. With its eerie handcam footage, the music video for the album’s lead single will give tape collectors warm and fuzzy memories. However, while the band shred at a blood-thirsty pace, “Scalp Ceremony” bangs the long-haired heads of their captive audience with a flurry of bongos.

“We are all very happy with how our first album turned out, but we wanted to go bigger by tying Reminiscence to a specific concept”, Cappelletti explains. “Adding the tribal instruments to certain songs deepens the connection to the overall story that the album is telling”.

“What we’ve created is a ‘lost album’”, Rossignol says. “It comes from an unknown civilization that’s both futuristic and extremely primitive. Through psychic powers and capabilities that transcend earthly comprehension, these primordial extraterrestrials have achieved total neural unity. Yet innate wickedness still lures inside of them, harboring the need for preys, scalps and lust”. Climbing “The Moaning Hill” is not for the faint of heart, but the intricate twists along its perverse path lead to truly sacred pleasures.

“You’ve never known the face of death / But now it becomes yours”, Feltrin growls amidst the many peaks hidden within “Oracle’s Rift”. As the band tear through a torturous passage with ruthless precision, the last thing you see – or hear – is death metal’s future mutating right before our eyes.

With Reminiscence, Miscreance unlock a mind-altering experience of old-school technical death metal.

BEAST IN BLACK Welcome New Guitarist Markus Venehsalo to Line Up

As work continues on their fourth studio album, BEAST IN BLACK has officially welcomed Finnish guitarist Markus Venehsalo into the band’s ranks.

The group was deep into the recording sessions for the next release when the need arose for a second guitarist capable of handling guitar solos for the album. At that stage of production, the band was searching for a player who could contribute solos that would complement the album’s evolving sound while bringing something unique to the table.

Coincidentally, Venehsalo reached out to the band around the same time, sending a direct message along with videos showcasing his own original solo work. The material immediately caught the band’s attention. Venehsalo demonstrated a rare balance of speed, precision, melody, and expression, with a strong musical understanding evident throughout both fast and slow passages. The guitarist’s distinctly Eastern Finland sense of humor also struck a chord with the band, adding an unexpected layer of warmth and camaraderie to the collaboration. As a result, Venehsalo was selected to perform the lead guitar solos on the upcoming album.

At the same time, the band was conducting interviews with several candidates from both Finland and abroad as part of its search for a permanent guitarist to join the band. The process attracted numerous highly skilled musicians. Ultimately, however, Venehsalo had already demonstrated what the band describes as his ‘Beast mentality’. After extensive consideration, the decision was made to offer him the position.

“When I was 8 years old, my dad brought home a guitar he had bought from a work buddy. I plugged it into an amp, found the distortion channel, and said to my dad, ‘I’m going to be a rock ’n’ roll guitarist!’ Being now part of the Beast In Black lineup feels like an almost impossible dream come true for me, and I’m excited about what the future holds for us. Thank you for trusting me on guitar duties. I promise to do my absolute best!”
says the new guitarist Markus Venehsalo.

Check out his skills here:

Fans will not have to wait long to see Venehsalo in action. He is set to make his live debut with the band at a festival in Germany on June 27, where the group’s new lineup will take the stage together for the first time.

The band would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to amazing Daniel Freyberg for stepping in on guitar during the recent run of live shows. His irreplaceable contribution on stage brought both stability and energy to the performances, and the band is deeply appreciative of his support during this transitional period.

“I wanna thank Beast In Black and the fans for this amazing adventure together. We all knew this chapter would be temporary due to my long-term plans with Crownshift, but I’m really glad we got to make some great memories around the globe. Although our paths are now heading in different directions, the friendship remains strong,” says Daniel Freyberg.

Freyberg tells he will now shift his full-time focus to his band Crownshift, which is currently working on a new album.

PAT TRAVERS’ Live Single ‘Snortin’ Whiskey’ Out Now

On March 20, 2004, early into a marathon outing that would keep them on the road across North America and Europe until July, the Pat Travers Band headed to Houston, Texas, to record what would become one of the most exhilarating live albums of his career.

Fronting a dynamite trio completed by southern rock maestro Greg T. Walker (Lynyrd Skynyrd/Blackfoot – bass) and Simon Wright (AC/DC – drums), Travers was delving deep into his musical roots on this tour, and nightly delivering a Texas-sized slab of electrified blues.

The set was flawless, ranging from epic versions of fan favorites “Boom Boom Out Go The Lights” and “Life in London”; some truly barnstorming work-outs… a colossal 13-minute version of Albert King’s 1967 stomper “Born Under A Bad Sign” among them… and some exquisitely well-chosen covers – the Allman Brothers’ “Statesboro Blues,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return); and –Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited”.

Today, however, sees one of Travers’ own compositions (co-written with then-bandmate Pat Thrall) hit the spotlight, as a short, but so sharp “Snorting’ Whiskey” peels out as his latest single.

A firm crowd-pleaser since it appeared on the classic Crash And Burn album in 1980, “Snortin’ Whiskey” is both the guitarist’s tour de force and the rhythm section at its tightest, both wildly flamboyant and thrillingly concise.  Travers’s mid-song solo is scarcely ten seconds long, but it wipes the floor with many more extravagant showcases.

SINGLE: https://orcd.co/pattravers_snortinwhiskeyhouston

Of course, there are longer (and equally thrilling) solos elsewhere across this breathtaking album, Travers and co playing like men possessed, determined that the energy should never flag. In fact, if anything, things grow even more intense as the show progresses, until that closing salvo of ”Born Under A Bad Sign” and “Statesboro Blues” hits such peak blues-blasting temperatures that the show literally had to end there.  No band on earth could have followed that.

Cleopatra Records and Pat Travers go back a long way, with close to two dozen releases highlighting both his most recent recordings and a string of historic live albums dating back to 1980.  We’re not going to say that Bluesed Out in Houston is the best of them all, because that’s for the listeners to decide.  But it’s certainly high up among them!
