SEUN KUTI Drops New Single ‘Dey’ Feat. DAMIAN MARLEY, Out Now

Grammy-nominated artist Seun Kuti has released his electrifying new song “Dey” featuring iconic four-time Grammy Award-winner Damian Marley. The track is available now on streaming platforms via Milan-based label Record Kicks. “Dey” is the first single from Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’s upcoming album Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), dropping October 4, 2024.

“Dey” combines the raw energy of Afrobeat with the rhythmic vibes of reggae for a dynamic track that is sure to captivate audiences worldwide. The collaboration holds deep significance, symbolizing the rebuilding of a bridge between Nigeria and Jamaica. This special sentiment is emphasized by Seun.

He says, “I’m very honoured to have Damian on this track; it’s a historical moment. This is the first time that Kutis and Marleys have recorded together. We are two performers, both from the dynasty of Africa, with a huge continental divide, singing about similar struggles. To have the legacies of these great movements that represent African people is an amazing thing. It shows the similarities between the experiences of black people all over the world. I think this collaboration is an affirmation of the righteousness of our messages.”

Available Now on Digital Platforms HERE!

“The song depicts African unity and African art,” Seun continues. “It doesn’t matter where we are positioned in this world, very few African people receive notability; we are for the most part seen as the underdog. Therefore, this song is all about embracing and championing who we are. It is about human beings not having to be special, to be special. As African people, one thing that I hate about the way the world relates to us is that only special Africans are human. We can’t just be humans. That is removed from the black African experience. So, this song is about how we are special and how we should not feel the need to constantly prove ourselves to anybody.”

Produced by a dream team of top tier artists, including superstar Lenny Kravitz (executive producer) and original Fela Kuti and Egypt 80 producer Sodi Marciszewer (artistic producer), “Dey” pays homage to the rich traditions of both Nigeria and Jamaica while pushing the boundaries of contemporary music. With its fusion of pulsating rhythms and infectious melodies, “Dey” is set to become a timeless anthem that transcends borders and resonates with listeners from all walks of life. This innovative track is a cultural celebration showcasing the tapestry of sounds that define African and Caribbean music.

Seun is a musician, singer, and songwriter based in Lagos, Nigeria who is renowned for his captivating global performances and socially conscious music. He is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and has spent most of his life preserving and extending his father’s political and musical legacy. He entered the ranks of Fela’s band Egypt 80 as a developing saxophonist and percussionist before the age of 12, and, in fulfilment of his father’s wishes, he assumed the mantle as head of the band when Fela passed in 1997. Seun has led them ever since; they rehearse at Fela’s former home, which is now the Kalakuta Museum.

Seun has also made his mark as a political activist and voice for the people of Nigeria, primarily via social media platforms. He was a participant in the Occupy Nigeria and #EndSARS protests and has revived Movement of the People (M.O.P.), a political party established by his father in 1979 that was quashed by the military government shortly after Fela’s failed presidential bid.

Seun has released four albums during his career with Egypt 80: Many Things (2008); From Africa With Fury: Rise (2011), which was co-produced by Brian Eno and John Reynolds; A Long Way Beginning (2014); and Grammy-nominated Black Times (2018), which includes a feature from Carlos Santana. He has also joined forces with countless notable artists, including Janelle Monae on the singles “Float” and “Knows Better” from her Grammy-nominated album The Age of Pleasure (2023); Talib Kweli and Madlib on the song “Nat Turner,” which features Cassper Nyovest, from their album Liberation 2 (2023); The Roots’ co-founder and emcee Black Thought on their EP African Dreams (2022); and Vic Mensa on the record “Bad Man Lighter 2.0,” which is a new version of Seun and Black Thought’s hip-hop remix of a single from Black Times.

The second half of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’s North American “Dey” Tour kicks off July 12—following a series of dates in June—and will hit 11 cities through July 28.

SUPER MONSTER PARTY Release Brand New Video Single ‘Test Your Might’, Tribute to Mortal Kombat

Posted by metalshockfinland on June 27, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SUPER MONSTER PARTY. Leave a comment

Spending the free time of Florida’s hot days and nights in arcades is still a cherished childhood memory from the early 90s for many. And rightfully so, as that decade literally began as a fistful: With the massive impact that the landing of Mortal Kombat had on the scene, the crater of which was quickly filled to the brim with enthusiastic gamers – including quite a few metalheads. Furthermore, DOOM and its soundtrack have been proving for decades that the marriage of audiovisual and musical power fantasies can produce pretty exciting children.

One of the young savages of that era, who probably spent more time in arcades than under the family roof, was metal singer and songwriter Rei Sega, who has been hard at work for several years with SUPER MONSTER PARTY to create a monument to the video game heroes from the pioneering days of gaming, or rather: to forge one out of metal. With like-minded collaborators such as Malmsteen bassist Emilio Martinez, drummer Fernando Lemus (Lions at the Gate), rhythm guitarist Andy Alvarez (Irras One) and Ukrainian lead guitarist Oleh Andrievsky (Highways) as well as none other than Matt Laplant (Ellefson, Saliva) on the controls, SUPER MONSTER PARTY are rounding off the farewell to this year’s Summer Game Fest perfectly with their brand new video single Test Your Might. Band boss Rei Sega has his very own reasons for giving the pioneer of badassery among arcade fighters that particular spot in the sun as the summer of gaming begins: “Mortal Kombat holds a very special place in my heart, because it’s the very first arcade game I ever played as a kid. When I saw my mother’s face of shock, I knew I found the perfect game.”

Just like the song itself, the accompanying music video is bursting with reminiscences and humorous bows to the classic and its creators. Quite literally, because several of them – all of them combatants from the very beginning – already knew SUPER MONSTER PARTY from the band’s homages to Zelda, Altered Beast or Doom, and therefore stepped in front of the camera together with the band without further ado. Martial arts icon, actor and stunt coordinator of the first MK editions, Daniel Pesina (Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Subzero, Reptile, Smoke), remembers the shoot: “Originally, my primary motivation for participating in the project was the camaraderie shared among friends, combined with the exceptional talents they brought to the table, which collectively contributed to the video’s FLAWLESS VICTORY.” And his fellow actor Anthony Marquez (Kung Lao) adds: “Working with Super Monster Party was really a lot of fun! The band has so much personality! I’m honored to be part of this project.”

Curtain up for a retro round of friendship, honor and gore:

But it doesn’t stop there. In July, SUPER MONSTER PARTY will play live at the CLASSIC GAME FEST in Austin, Texas, which is the biggest retro gaming event state-wide. In the beginning of August, the Monsters will rock the LOUD AS HELL Open Air in Drumheller, Canada, followed by a headlining show at the 17th (!) issue of BIT GEN GAMER FEST in Baltimore later in August. Better even: As the band is already hinting, a complete and pretty crazy album is in the works! When exactly it will be released, which games will be featured and whether there will be any more cameos: The summer continues as excitingly as it began for the gamer in us!

DOOMRAISER Present ‘Dark Omens’ Single from Upcoming Album

Four years since the release of their critically acclaimed fifth album, “The Dark Side of Europa”, Italian doom metal forerunners DOOMRAISER return to the fray with their anthemic new album, “Cold Grave Marble” on 2nd October 2024 via Time To Kill Records.

The album was recorded and produced once again by Danilo Silvestri and the band, with artwork overseen by FabioListrani.

The first single “Dark Omens” is now streaming HERE.

The band commented: “‘Dark Omens’ is our overture into the journey through the realm of Death. Our trip begins inside our dreams, where our subconscious minds create powerful connections with arcane and mysterious dimensions, read signs and premonitions, talk to Death and its world beyond. A heavy obsessive metal soundtrack that portrays the interconnection between life and death, where Man eternally sits at the center of this dark equilibrium”.

“Cold Grave Marble”, the sixth DOOMRAISER full doom length, is a frozen view in the darker side of life: Death, the Omega of our earthly dimension. The album is made up of raw riffing seasoned up in heavy, dark and gloomy dreaming atmospheres, and explores a plethora of styles with different sounds and solutions. The songwriting approach is rougher than before, experimental, suggestive, still preserving the classic DOOMRAISER characteristic sound.

The whole concept lies upon a personal portrayal of Death, the Infinite Void, the Great Absence, the greatest experience in matter of Chaos and disruption of reality. It’s a journey exploring the end of the biological cycle and man’s awareness of the ancient idea of “having to die”, an extreme but natural event belonging to the inevitability of time.

The album was recorded in Rome, Italy, by the skillful hands of Danilo Silvestri and mastered (just like the previous album “The Dark Side of Old Europa”) by Claudio Gruer. The record features important guests such as James Murphy (Death, Obituary, Testament), Flegias (Necrodeath), Mario Di Donato (The Black), Nequam (The Magik Way, ex Mortuary Drape) among others.

Tracklist:

01. Dark Omens (latin speech by Mario “The Black” Di Donato)
02. Last Christmas I Gave You My Death
03. Once Upon The Fireflies (organ and strings by Il Diavolo Misterioso)
04. Profondo Nero/Life In Black (guitar solo by James Murphy, screaming vocals by Flegias)
05. Cold Grave Marble (Winter Moon) (desperate scream by Veronica G.)
06. Without A Shadow
07. The Great Void (bonus track On CD, MC and Digital only)
08. Filthy Shades Of Death (storytelling intro by Nequam, organ and strings by Il Diavolo Misterioso)
09. Continuum Pt. 2&3 (Ultima Luce)
10. Buio

Pre-order at this location.

Line-up:

Andrea “BJ” Caminiti – Bass
Giuseppe “El Grigio” Nantini – Guitar
Nicola Rossi – Vocals
Daniele “Pinna” Amatori – Drums
Marco Montagna – Guitar

Formed in 2004, DOOMRAISER have evolved into an instantly recognisable figurehead for those pushing doom metal into crushing new directions. Through the years the band have shared the stage with acts such as Electric Wizard, Reverend Bizarre, The Gates of Slumber and Orange Goblin and have released several records, experimenting and contaminating their music with raw heavy metal, psychedelia and other influences.

TEMIC Release Zardonic Remix of ‘Once More’

Posted by metalshockfinland on June 27, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: TEMIC. Leave a comment

TEMIC prove that there really is strength in numbers. Eric Gillette (Neal Morse) and Diego Tejeida (Devin Townsend, ex-Haken) had already toured the world together with Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress. But after they joined forces with Maraton’s Fredrik Klemp and Simen Sandnes from SHINING, they formed a new supergroup. The Prog Report was so impressed by TEMIC’s debut, that they dubbed Terror Management Theory one of the best albums of last year.

Now, TEMIC are extending their collaborative streak to a whole ‘nother level. Today, prog-metal’s new sensation are hitting the dance floor with a special remix by none other than DJ ZARDONIC.

Terror Management Theory is out now on Season of Mist.

“Once More” kicks out a djenty riff that’s in the running for the most headbanging moment on Terror Management Theory, but the skittering drum pattern points to the song’s initial inspiration. After all, it was originally called “Pendulum” in honor of the celebrated Australian Drum & Bass group. “Diego and I are both avid D&B fans”, says Simen. “When we got to talking about how fantastic it would be to remix songs from the album, I knew exactly who to approach for this track”.

While known for his menacing black-and-white mask, Zardonic is recognized by even the most extreme corners of the underground. The EDM behemoth has put his hard-hitting, fleet-footed spin on Gorgoroth, Fear Factory, Bullet for My Valentine and Simen’s other band SHINING. “I admire Zardonic’s style immensely” Simen says. “No matter what it sounds like, you can always tell when you’re listening to one of his songs”.

The connection between these two international players doesn’t stop there, either. Not only does Zardonic play the same brand of keyboard as Diego. He’s a fellow metalhead who’s followed all four members of TEMIC throughout their careers.

“It was an honor and an absolute blast to work with this dream lineup of a band!” says Zardonic. “I have so much respect for their musicianship and am thankful for the opportunity to bring their sound into the Drum & Bass scene. I hope all the ravers will dance their socks off to this remix. I’m already raving to do this again!”

The fit might’ve been obvious to both parties, but Zardonic does sneak a nice surprise into “Once More”. The song starts off at a quiet build, only to explode into a full-blown rager. “I wonder if I have a reason to reach for the stars” Klemp belts propelled by surging synths and a hard-charging beat that’s bound to get everyone’s blood (and fists!) pumping in the mosh pit.

Diego Tejeida and Eric Gillette’s vision for TEMIC wasn’t exactly simple: synthesize their love for high-energy electronica and flashy riffs into a killer prog-metal hybrid. But after recruiting former soccer prodigy-turned-Zildjian-endorsed drummer Simen Sandnes (SHINING, Arkentype) to go along with the high-powered falsetto of Fredrik Klemp (Maraton), together, the supergroup managed to connect all those puzzle pieces on their very first album.

TEMIC came together from across the globe, but they also share a wide variety of influences.

Check out their curated Spotify playlist, which features everyone from GoGo Penguin and Car Bomb to Infected Mushroom, Ólafur Arnalds and the Blade Runner soundtrack.

Introducing TEMIC—prog’s newest, most ambitious, and most adrenaline-fueled act. TEMIC melds the creative minds of keyboardist and sound designer Diego Tejeida (Devin Townsend, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress, ex-Haken), guitarist Eric Gillette (The Neal Morse Band, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress), drummer Simen Sandnes (SHINING, Arkentype), and vocalist Fredrik Klemp (Maraton, 22).

The origins of TEMIC date back to 2017, when Tejeida and Gillette toured the world as band members of Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress. From the very first chords they exchanged, their musical chemistry both on and off stage was undeniable, leading them to discuss the prospect of starting a new band together. Unfortunately, conflicting tour and recording commitments forced them to turn their attention elsewhere for years—that is, until the world came to a standstill in 2020, and Tejeida called Gillette to ask a fateful question:
“Remember how we said we should make music together? Well, how about now?”

Thus, the first demos for what would later become TEMIC’s 2023 debut album, Terror Management Theory, began to emerge. Within a few weeks after that initial phone call, the musical vision of TEMIC had become clear: Let’s create progressive music that is heavily influenced by high-energy electronic music, but arranged and orchestrated for a 5-piece modern prog rock/metal band—where, at last, the pulse can be the focus, and the vocal melody can be king.

Eager to join forces with the very best bandmates, Tejeida and Gillette first summoned the rhythmic power of their friend and drummer Sandnes. With characteristic enthusiasm, Sandnes seized the opportunity, prepared to contribute his percussive prowess as the heartbeat of TEMIC. When it came time to find the singer that would carry TEMIC’s melodies to new heights, Sandnes recommended vocal powerhouse Klemp, whose emotive delivery and unmatched intensity left no doubt that he was destined to be the voice of TEMIC. Finally, to round out the rhythm section of Terror Management Theory, dynamic bassist Jacob Umansky (Intervals) was invited on board as a guest player, gracing the album with an unrivaled groove and a signature low-end sound.

Together, this mammoth lineup is TEMIC, a high-energy, electronic-inspired, modern melodic prog metal band for the next generation.
