THE MERCURY RIOTS Release Killer Video Single ‘LA Girls’, New Album Out Now

With the deep, raunchy growl of a classic big block V8 and the throaty howl of a true Louisiana blues wolf, THE MERCURY RIOTS are back bigger and heavier than ever. If you’re having a fucked up day, these guys are just the right mechanics to fix it for you, as just one spin of the RIOTS’ brand new record In Solstice will make you feel peachy and ready to roll again. Disclaimer: Your hair might disagree, it will most certainly suck when the boogie is over. That can easily be circumvented, though! Just don’t let it be over, the Repeat Button exists for a reason. With THE MERCURY RIOTS, it’s so effective in messing up bangs, mullets and skullets, we should rename it the Bad Hair Button.

Speaking of hair… Back in the heydays of good hair, i.e. the hairy days, the Bad Hair Button was oftentimes a really sick button combo that only the best of all pre-party video jockeys were able to master: Rewind – pray – play! If the prayers were heard, VHS audiences got to experience video goodness like this (minus the brilliantly luxurious sound, of course):

Single LA Girls for your best playlist in the world: https://orcd.co/lagirls

Whether you just want all your hair back or you’re thinking about spending that spare pocket money for your very first razor, chances are you won’t come back here to continue reading, as YouTube does feature a quick to use Bad Hair Button after all. Just in case you did return anyway: The full album In Solstice is out now! It’s available in digital form and as a Gatefold CD, with a Gatefold Vinyl Edition in the pipeline for the following days. And since today is the day of summer solstice – the longest day of the year that’s nervously nested in the shortest nights –, you won’t get much sleep anyway. Could as well just go out and have fun, right? Wait! Don’t forget to take a healthy dose of LA muscle rock with you: https://open.spotify.com/album/6saTGpJ9BaEgTliHcMOAC6

Feeling lost and no idea where to go? No problem, we got you (and your besties) covered:

About THE MERCURY RIOTS

So who the fuck are these guys, who won the prestigious HRH Award in the Rising Stars category only two years after getting together as a band in the middle of a pandemic? Simple answer: killer musicians, and highly sought after guns for hire in the pulsating protoplasma of the L.A. heavy music scene.

And with the lockdowns taking away all means of getting their hands dirty and their bellies boozed up in a rich L.A. nightlife, the four best friends unceremoniously started their own gig: THE MERCURY RIOTS. But how come that they don’t just sound like your regular L.A. sleaze rockers, you may wonder.
THE MERCURY RIOTS are simply immune to such trends, as their individual cultural heritage truly makes for a gang of motley dogs, drawing inspiration from Metallica just as much as they do from, say, Muddy Waters or ZZ Top. Their style may have been nurtured and their friendship forged in the wild heart of Los Angeles but all their passion and the inclination towards virtuosity – well, each of them has brought those to the City Of Angels in their luggage: from New Orleans, where Justin Walker’s voice was born and raised to tune in to traditional southern blues, as to rock and metal.

From the vibrant city of Montevideo, Uruguay, where Fede Delfino learned to channel his fiery and passionate energy into buttery smooth bass lines and mesmerizing singing.
From the rough streets of Philadelphia, where Jonny Udell found his rhythm that he exported to the west coast so successfully early on, making his name as the ultimate drum machine.

And last but not least from Uruguay again – with Jonny’s long-term bandmate Felipe Rodrigo and his trusty guitar. Felipe became a musical nomad at a very young age, and embarked on a rock ‘n’ roll journey across the Americas. He and Jonny have successfully played together in the past. Drawing from the heavy punch of metal, they’ve been following the same vision ever since: reignite the boogie in rock ’n’ roll – just bolder and with elegance and stomp being plentiful, yet presented in a perfect equilibrium. That vision’s got a new name now!

And the quality of the sound is by no means a fluke either: Before heading out for a ginormous European tour later that year, THE MERCURY RIOTS flew to Vancouver, Canada, in 2023 to record In Solstice with no other than legendary producer/engineer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA, AEROSMITH, JOE SATRIANI), who co-produced, mixed and engineered the album at The Warehouse Studio and Armoury Studios. While Mr. Fraser brilliantly captured all the powerful riffing, soulful vocals and pumping rhythms, the band decided to put the fine art of mastering in equally golden hands: It had to be Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound (THE BLACK KEYS, GRETA VAN FLEET, THE NATIONAL). Stating the obvious, the result sounds fuckin’ awesome!

MASS PUNISHMENT Pulverize with New Single ‘Blood Dirt’

Extreme metal force MASS PUNISHMENT unleashes their powerful new single, “Blood Dirt,” today via Wormholedeath. The track serves as a scathing indictment of the Iraq War, raising questions about its true purpose and the devastating consequences.

Blood Dirt was recorded at Trax East and Bullet Proof Studios in NJ by Producer Eric Rachel. George Pond guided additional post-production work at The Bomb Shelter Studio.

The band stated: “This song touches on the wars in the Middle East. More poignantly about Operation Iraqi Freedom and hidden agendas in the underlying reasons for committing the USA to that particular war in the region. A country in peril with the US invading with military might not seen since WWII. Death and destruction lay in the dust trails as the US and coalition forces pushed further into Iraq. “Blood turns the sand to soil”. Was it for Liberating a people from a tyrannical regime? Was it for a taste of revenge from political leaders? Or was it for oil? Listen to the song and make your own determination.”

Stream “Blood Dirt” on your preferred platform HERE: https://orcd.co/blooddirt

‘Blood Dirst’ is a track taken from the band’s upcoming album “Proving Grounds, Vol.1.”, due for release via Wormholedeath.

This single follows their previously released tracks, “Worldwide Genocide” and “Breaking Point,” which can be found here:

EMIL KÀRLSEN Celebrates Release of New EP “Binnát” with Single + Video ‘Čávkkus’

Indigenous multi-instrumentalist and artist Emil Kárlsen is thrilled to announce the release of his new EP, Binnát. This 5-track EP, which includes two brand-new songs, is now available via By Norse Music.

To celebrate the release of Binnát, Emil is also unveiling his new single, “Čávkkus.”

Čávkkus is the northern Sámi name of Emil Kárlsen’s hometown. This Sámi name is most likely the oldest one, probably referring to a place often covered in light mist during summer nights.

Emil Kárlsen comments:
The luohti/yoik of «Čávkkus» came to be on one of my many journeys, and was a way to find the peaceful hometown vibe as I travelled the world. By yoiking my little village I also want to reconnect it with its Sámi history, as the Norwegianization really struck hard and almost eradicated both the Sámi and the Kvääni/Finnish identities, cultures and languages here. But the languages are on their ways back, and there is proof that yoiking has been heard here from both the reindeer herding Sámis and the coastal Sámis. Maybe the village of Čávkkus did have it’s own luohti/yoik back in the days, but I have not heard about it. So it was about time to find one!»

A person’s luohti (yoik) is concidered a kind of sonic name for who you are yoiking. In those terms, you don’t yoik about someone, but you yoik someone, attempting to paint a picture of who you are yoiking with voicedynamics and sometimes with words. Traditionally one would yoik freely without music, but this is a modern form of yoiking where Emil arranged suitable and very catchy music.

Biography

Emil Ráste Karlsen, better known as Emil Kárlsen, is a young indigenous multi-instrumentalist and artist from the Northern Sámi community. He stands at several crossroads: between tradition and modernity, the lost, remaining and regained, the coastal- and the mountain sámi, and the borders between three countries.

At the heart of Emil Kárlsen’s artistry lies a desire to build bridges—between people, cultures and times. His music is a testament to resilience and reclamation, but in a rather humble way. By each luohti (yoik piece) he makes for a family member, friend or place, he contributes to reconnect his people to eachother and to their history. His family, like many others, faced the government’s intentional erasure of the Sámi culture, but they worked hard to reclaim both the language, juoiggan (yoiking), traditional handicraft and other traditions.

A concert with Emil Kárlsen is never like another. He is a truly dynamic artist, with a charisma that feeds off the audience, giving all of himself in return. He performs in various formats: sometimes alone with a looper or a guitar, sometimes with different kinds of instruments, other times with a few musicians, or even with an entire orchestra. He constructs sets that communicate not just his music, but his thoughts and stories embedded in his Sámi heritage. Trough music and arts, Emil Kárlsen emphazises the gratitude of his culture still excisting, and through that, joining forces with the unyielding spirit of those who refuses to be silenced.

Born in 1997, he’s already an accomplished musician, composer, producer and actor. He released two studio-albums and won several awards with his former band Resirkulert, and cooperated with several renowned musicians on his first album Nagirvárrái, among them Lávre, Katarina Barruk, Hildá Länsman and The Arctic Philharmonic. He’ve played the mainpart in several theatre productions at the Sámi National Theatre, such as The Bear-Hunter Ol-Tomså, and Jussi in Guovžža vuoššat: the dramatization of Mikael Niemi’s novel To Cook a Bear. This story has followed Emil the last years as he also plays Jussi in Disney’s TV-series with the same name, that will premiere on Disney+ in near future.

Fantasy Metallers WARLOCK A.D. Release New Video ‘The Golden Showers of Prestønia’ from Sophomore Album

𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐊 𝐀.𝐃.‘s sophomore album “Book II: The Valley of Vâgené” is set to be released on September 27th, 2024 from Rockshots Records.

Over two years in the making, this entry into the WarlocK A.D. saga is bigger, thicker, and more powerful than anything they have brought you before! The album is 12 tracks of interwoven musical storytelling implementing the use of motifs, themes, and callbacks. From the sweeping orchestral movements of “The Golden Showers of Prestønia” to the frantic folk metal flavorings of “Rothgar Warsong”, the album combines the sound and styles of various iterations of orchestra-led melodic metal – culminating in what feels like a fully-fledged D&D style epic told through the medium of a Heavy Metal Musical. Recommended for fans of Nanowar of Steel, Angus McSix, and Beast in Black, the quest to The Valley of Vâgené continues with the single “The Golden Showers of Prestønia”.

“The title is a clear double entendre, the single is a cautionary tale detailing the events that follow Whiteacre’s failure to heed the advice of the wise wizard Horatus – do not touch the water! One of the more traditional power metal style tracks on the album, the intensity of the track ebbs and flows as the danger of the forbidden waters becomes more and more apparent – leading to a frantic race against time for Ahriman Cullblade to save the endangered Nomad. This track was actually heavily inspired by the track “Burn” by Deep Purple – which also details the story of a dangerous female presence – something which can be heard especially in the song’s post-solo section. The track also evokes a traditional symphonic metal feel through the use of the duet vocals between Whiteacre and Uriña the Siren (as performed by Dani Bentham of Wailing Banshee).” adds the band.

Saudi Thrashers DUNE Release New Lyric Video for ‘Insidious’

Posted by metalshockfinland on June 22, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: DUNE. Leave a comment

Thrash fans take note and get ready to dive into the dark and groovy tones of “Insidious” with the latest lyric video from the Saudi trash outfit DUNE. The track comes from the band’s recently released debut EP “Years Of Chains” released this past May. This composition is a showcase of the band’s unique approach to music – chainsaw-heavy guitars, chunky bass slaps, and highly technical drums, all underscored by aggressive vocals. The band comments on the EP, which has been a long time coming:

“Years of Chains” is an EP that we wrote years ago but didn’t get a chance to properly record due to multiple difficulties that came our way, after years we have chosen a list of the songs from the originals we have for the EP. The recording process was fun yet we looked for perfection to make the songs as we imagined them with the best quality that we could make.”

“Insidious” delves into themes around culture, urban legends, and personal issues, reflecting the depth and versatility of DUNE‘s lyrical and musical expression. As the band continues to redefine the boundaries of modern metal, “Insidious” promises to be a standout moment on the EP.

Known for their unique fusion of Thrash Metal with Djent, Nu Metal, Oriental, and Groove Metal influences, DUNE‘s sound is a sonic journey that defies traditional genre boundaries. The band’s resurrection in 2021 has been met with immense enthusiasm from both loyal fans who witnessed their early years and new listeners hungry for a fresh, powerful sound. They are recommended for fans of Pantera, Metallica, and Korn.

Swedish heavy rockers GREENLEAF drop their critically acclaimed full-length “The Head & The Habit” today, out now on Magnetic Eye Records. The album is also available on all digital streaming services. Order your album copy at: http://lnk.spkr.media/greenleaf-head-habit

GREENLEAF have previously announced the “Habit of the Tundra Tour” with SLOMOSA and support from PSYCHLONA in Europe for autumn 2024. Please see below for all confirmed dates!

“The Head & The Habit” is now streaming, in its entirety, here:

With their ninth full-length “The Head & The Habit”, GREENLEAF have reached the pinnacle of a long evolution. The musical handwriting and well-honed mastery of guitarist Tommi Holappa, who has been a pioneer and pillar of the European stoner rock scene for more than 25 years, shines clearly through. This is perfectly complemented by the soulfulness, intuitive sense of melody, and depth of character that the vocals of classically-trained singer Arvid Hällagård brings to the sound of GREENLEAF.

Apart from world-class vocal lines and massive riffs with electric fuzz-power, GREENLEAF have put extra thought into the themes of “The Head & The Habit”, which lift its lyrics far above much of the often cliché-ridden genre. As the album title implies, the new songs resemble symbolic short stories that revolve around emotional struggles and even mental illness. Written by the vocalist, the lyrics reflect real life experience as Hällagård works with people who suffer from problems with drug abuse and psychological health.

Tracklist:

  1. Breathe, Breathe Out
  2. Avalanche
  3. Different Horses
  4. A Wolfe in My Mind
  5. That Obsidian Grin
  6. The Sirens Sound
  7. Oh Dandelion
  8. The Tricking Tree
  9. An Alabastrine Smile

Heavy rock afficionados GREENLEAF were initially formed as an informal project by friends that were already playing in other bands including such notable names as DOZER, LOWRIDER, and DEMON CLEANER. The Swedes simply wanted an outlet for their mutual love of ’70s-era hard rock and proto-metal while being free from the expectations and pressures of their main bands.

Despite intentions to keep GREENLEAF purely for pleasure, the undiluted joy of creating catchy songs led to everyone demanding that material be recorded. This eventually resulted in the release of a self-titled debut EP in 2000, which was quickly followed by first full-length “Revolution Rock” only a year later.

With guitarist and founder Tommi Holappa firmly at the helm, the sound of GREENLEAF remained remarkably consistent throughout the years and releases that followed, even through a variety of personnel changes.

Inspired by growing popularity and the success of “Secret Alphabets” (2003) and “Agents of Ahriman” (2007), they began to shift gears in 2010, moving from “the side project that refused to die” toward something closer to a band with the release of fourth album, 2012’s “Nest of Vipers”.

Having turned from an on and off fling to a full-time love affair, the years of rotating line-ups ended and GREENLEAF‘s newfound focus and stability was crowned by their fifth album “Trails & Passes” (2014), which featured new permanent vocalist Arvid Hällagård. This milestone also marked the beginning of a new phase of the band.

Their next two full-lengths, 2016’s “Rise Above the Meadow” and 2018’s “Hear the Rivers”, won the band prime performing slots on European festival stages, while “Echoes from a Mass” (2021) reached the global streaming and European album charts – reflecting the quartet’s ever-growing popularity.

Weaving together psychedelia, hard rock, and metallic blues in a warm, serpentine mélange that leaves behind none of the punishing immediacy of their earlier recordings, today’s GREENLEAF merge road-tested tightness, swirling guitar-driven soundscapes, and captivating blues-laden vocals into one of the most reliably mesmerizing acts pushing the sonic horizons of desert rock to new frontiers.

With “The Head & The Habit”, GREENLEAF combine an awareness of past triumphs with mature craftsmanship, showcasing their confidence in how to rock stronger, harder, and more to the point than ever before. The Swedes melt thunderous riff-magic, enrapturing and soul-heavy vocals, frenetic rhythms and driving attacks into a ear-catching, sparkling alloy of hard rocking anthems!

“The Head & The Habit” is available as a 48-page CD artbook, a digisleeve CD, and as a transparent red vinyl LP, an opaque cream white vinyl LP, and a marbled black, white & transparent green vinyl LP. Order the album HERE!
