Icelandic post-rockers SÓLSTAFIR are pleased to now reveal the brand new single, “Hin Helga Kvöl!” Meaning “The Holy Torment,” the new offering conjures up nostalgia as it harkens back to the band’s heavy roots while still layered with thick ambience and deep emotion. The song can be found along with a music video, which was directed by Karl Ágúst Guðmundsson for Polarama, at THIS LOCATION.

“It is a song about dying,” says guitarist/vocalist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason (guitar, vocals). “It is

about the realization that you will die sooner than later and consciously witnessing the end of your own world. It is one’s own personal idea of Ragnarök – or Armageddon. What happens afterwards? Are we reborn or are we simply food for the worms…”

SÓLSTAFIR recently announced signing to Century Media Records. They are no strangers to the music world with their 20+ years of performing across the globe as they consistently amaze audiences with their hearts on their sleeves from the first note. With a full catalog of truly exceptional timeless hits to perform, as well as some much-anticipated new music, the atmospheric Icelandic rock n’ roll sound that is uniquely SÓLSTAFIR always delivers to those who bear witness to their epic sets that take you on a journey through the ice and snow, fire and lava and breathtaking soundscapes of their homeland.

VESTIGE Capture Unique Sound on Debut Single ‘Deviens la Nuit’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on June 13, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: VESTIGE. Leave a comment
Photography by Mathieu Ezan

VESTIGE formed during an intense period of individual turmoil. But after vocalist and guitarist Théodore Rondeau and his old Naraka bandmates Pierre-André Krauzer (bassist) and Quentin Regnault (drums) bonded with guitarist Thomas Petit over a shared love for metal innovators like Alcest and Deftones, together, the four-piece embarked on their own journey toward a modern vision of metal that’s both cathartic and crushing.

Last year, Vestige achieved their first milestone by signing with Season of Mist, even though they had yet to release any music. This year, the band have played several shows in their native France, including a recent date with Celeste. Now, people all over the world can hear the first glimmer of their debut album, Janis, with lead single “Deviens la Nuit”.

“‘Deviens La Nuit’ catalyzes everything that Vestige represents in a single piece of music”, Rondeau says. “Between deep melancholy and the violence of realization, it marks the beginning of the journey that is Janis”.

Watch the colorfully strobing video for “Deviens la Nuit”, which was directed by Mathie Ezan (Cult of Luna, Hans Zimmer).

Janis comes out September 6 on Season of Mist.

Vestige draw inspiration from modern metal innovators like Alcest and Deftones, but “Deviens la Nuit” encapsulates all the individual pieces that make this band unique. Within the span of 5 minutes, they shift seamlessly from chugging riffs and tortured growls to melodic shoegaze and atmospheric post-metal before closing with a doomy and dissonant, head-banging breakdown. It’s here, within this dark night of the soul, that they bring us to the edge of despair so that we can feel what it’s like to be born anew.

“Cathartic, gentle, violent but enveloping, ‘Deviens La Nuit’ is the transformation and realization of the condition in which Theodore composed it”, Vestige says. “We hope that this song will invite you to experience this introspective journey with us”.

Tracklist1. Différent (2:47)
2. Deviens la Nuit (5:29) [WATCH]
3. Démence de l’Âme (6:25)
4. Océan (5:27)
5. Automne Part 1 (5:50)
6. Automne Part 2 feat Neige (Alcest) (4:54)
7. Appel de l’Âme (4:15)
8. Corrosion (5:16)
9. Stigmates du Temps (4:34)
10. Envol de l’Âme (5:40)
11. Avant la Fin (7:15)
Total runtime: 57:53

Théodore Rondeau, the creative initiator behind VESTIGE, embarked on a journey of forming the band during a turbulent phase in his life. Emerged as a creative vessel for a complicated emotional journey, the band transcends the boundaries of individual therapy into a collaborative force that hopefully resonates with the feelings that may be all too common for the human experience.

With a profound connection to their craft, VESTIGE pour their souls into their debut album, infusing it with a captivating blend of melancholy, desperation, and catharsis. The music serves not only as an expression of their turmoil, but as a conduit for listeners to navigate the complexities of their own emotions. Through this process, VESTIGE becomes a project with the potential to connect with people on a profound level, forging a collective experience through the universal language of music.

The formation of VESTIGE’s lineup reads like a musical destiny unfolding: Pierre-André Krauzer on the bass, Quentin Regnault on drums, and Théodore on vocals and guitar. They first crossed paths during their tenure in Naraka, a band that shared stages with icons like Cradle of Filth and Alcest. This initial connection laid the groundwork for the formation of the band. Not long after, the addition of Thomas Petit on the second guitar solidified the lineup, bringing a sense of completeness to the ensemble. The band’s sonic identity now established; VESTIGE was ready to share this experience with the world.

The signing with Season of Mist brings the band’s first milestone, allowing VESTIGE to share their journey in the form of their debut album, Janis. Poised for release in late 2024, the album is a culmination of their collective efforts and a statement of the band’s arrival in the heavy music scene. Weaving through atmospheric shoegaze textures, melodic landscapes and intense, tormented moments that reflects the emotional spectrum of the human experience, the band established a foothold into the genre of modern metal.

Beyond the studio, VESTIGE is gearing up for a series of live performance in 2024, setting the stage for an introspective musical experience that brings raw and authentic energy. A cathartic release that pulls in the listener into the emotional depths the band has to bring.

THOTCRIME Announce New Album “Connection Anxiety”, Reveal Lead Singles ‘The Wrong Way’ + ‘Behind the Cracks’

THOTCRIME have announced their third album, CONNECTION ANXIETY, due for release this summer via Prosthetic Records on August 16. Alongside the album announcement, the US / UK based cybergrind band has shared the two lead singles, The Wrong Way and Behind the Cracks. On CONNECTION ANXIETY, THOTCRIME all out embrace jubilation and celebration, pulling influence from rave, J-rock and J-Metal, electronicore and pop.

Stream The Wrong Way and Behind the Cracks via Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order CONNECTION ANXIETY here.

Speaking on the album announcement, Les Beaux Plastiques (producer) comments: “When we started working on a follow up to D1G1T4L_DR1FT, we decided that we wanted to explore our favourite aspects from our past while exploring more of where we were at the time. All the guitars are real, all the drums were written by our drummer, the mixing and production has taken a big step up, and there’s a lot more 90’s and 00’s rave elements, to inform a more unified direction, while still maintaining the THOTCRIME ethos of chaos and genrefluidity.”

With vocalist Hayley Elizabeth adding: “CONNECTION ANXIETY is a lot of things. This record feels like a proclamation that we’re holding out for hope. I hope the record is as fun as it is proactive. I hope that our third entry solidifies our existence in a world that is constantly changing. I also hope that our fans listening to this record resonate with it’s message: “a better world is possible, and it’s okay that change happens even if it’s scary.”“

Garnering praise from outlets such as Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and Metal Injection, THOTCRIME’s sophomore effort, D1G1T4L_DR1FT, was the beginning of a self-actualization for the young band. Two albums under their belts and countless hours spent collaborating via online servers and the first ever full member line-up tour soon followed in the United States, with Hayley Elizabeth (vocals), Melody Jane (guitar) and Dottie Homler (drums) meeting co-founding member Les Beaux Plastiques (production) for the first time in person.

Affirming THOTCRIME’s evolution from a studio project into something altogether more tangible, writing for CONNECTION ANXIETY took place throughout 2023. With the group’s voracious creative appetite rarely letting up as things took a more collaborative turn on the production front as Elizabeth soon found herself taking on shared duties with Beau across the 10 songs. Homler also took the lead on all drum programming on hir final work with the band and Melody’s approach to guitar saw the use of live instrumentation compared to THOTCRIME’s previously digitally inclined tendencies.

THOTCRIME‘s propensity for whiplash-inducing breakdowns and edge of your seat blast beating is still there in songs such as We Hope Some Good May Come of This (feat. Bottom Surgery) and the title-track, whilst lead single The Wrong Way positively brims with saccharine hooks as Hayley posits “Is it wrong to try something new?” in a chorus fit for the most intoxicating of PC-Music artists.

Emancipating from past sores and pains is a necessary path of growth, which makes CONNECTION ANXIETY’s gravitation towards positivity and a warehouse rave informed sonic palette singular in its creators earnestness and sanguinity. Elizabeth’s heart-on-her-sleeve lyricism is less an abandon of THOTCRIME’s previous works fraughtness, so much as a perspective shift into the self-affirming and proactive.

Tied together by returning digital artist Yam Lynn, CONNECTION ANXIETY’s smile beneath the cracks rather than over them is a testament to resilience by way of dancing with and for those dearest.

CONNECTION ANXIETY tracklist:
1. A Better World Is Possible
2. Behind the Cracks
3. We Hope Some Good May Come of This (feat. Bottom Surgery)
4. This Podcast Could’ve Been Four Seasons
5. Garden Court (feat. bagel rabbit)
6. The Wrong Way
7. Connection Anxiety
8. Existent
9. Beyond the Journey’s End
10. My Final Escape

SARS Present New Single ‘Away From My Mind’ from Upcoming Debut Album

Finnish dark metallic hardcore act SARS are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming debut album “Nothing Hurts Quite Like Life”, which is due out on July 12th 2024 via Time To Kill Records.

After recently launching pre-orders for the record, the band now also break the silence even further by sharing the new single “Away From My Mind“. Stream it HERE.

“Nothing Hurts Quite Like Life” consists of 10 punishing tracks with a total run time of 36 minutes. The band look at hardcore through “a death/thrash metal kid’s” lens, so attention is paid to songwriting and arrangements too without forgetting the chugs. With three of the members as backing vocalists (Timo, Sami & Juuso) joining in, the band is able to lift Antti’s screams to a new level. Also drawing from a wide variety of music beyond the hardcore umbrella, SARS aim to keep tracks interesting all the time and are not afraid to introduce some melodies or even some atmospheric elements into the music.

Tracklist:

1. So Cold
2. Stench of Profit
3. Nothing Hurts Quite Like Life
4. Away From My Mind
5. Solstice
6. Blightbearer
7. Bitter soil
8. Not for the Violence

Originating from the vibrant music scene of Turku, Finland,SARS emerged in 2016 as a collective vision to forge a sound rooted in “Hatebreed inspired metallic hardcore”. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that the band took its definitive form, with the foundational trio of Timo Heikkilä (drums), Sami Leinonen (guitar), and Juuso Linsamo (guitar) laying the groundwork for what would become a powerful musical force.

The ensemble gained further momentum in 2020 with the addition of the dynamic vocalist, Antti Honkanen, bringing a visceral energy to their evolving sound. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place later that year when bassist Vilho Laaksonen joined, solidifying the band’s lineup.

SARS
‘ initial foray into the music scene saw them collaborate with the legendary Keijo Niinimaa (known for his work with Rotten Sound, Morbid Evils, and Goatburner). This collaboration resulted in the release of their first three singles, during which Keijo shared vocal duties with Antti. Notably, Keijo also took on the roles of tracking and producing the first two singles, contributing his wealth of experience to shape the band’s early sonic identity.

However, the journey took an unexpected turn in 2022 when Keijo, facing scheduling conflicts and commitments to his other well-established projects, had to step away from SARS. Despite his departure, the band continued to evolve, drawing on the foundation laid during their collaboration with Keijo.

SARS
stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration and evolution within the music scene, carving their path with a blend of metallic hardcore and unapologetic intensity. As they forge ahead, the band remains poised to leave an indelible mark on the global heavy music landscape.

For fans of: Hatebreed, Harms Way, Knocked Loose, Incendiary

Line-up:
Antti Honkanen – Vocals
Juuso Linsamo – Guitar & backing vocals
Sami Leinonen – Guitar & backing vocals

Combining angry and furious death metal and grindcore, I, Cursed is the brutal band of Eero Haula and Ville-Veikko Laaksonen, who are known from Atlases, Marto and Oceanwake, among others.

The second single Sorrower is released today and it’s available on essential streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/icursed-sorrower

The “Blades” and Sorrower singles are part of the new “Death Holograms” EP to be released later on July 17th 2024. The upcoming EP is produced by I, Cursed and Jerkka Perälä of Soft Neon Audiovisual, whose handprint can be heard and seen in the mixing, mastering, cover art and lyric video for the “Death Holograms” EP. The release of the singles and the “Death Holograms” EP is handled in cooperation by Finnish record labels Inverse Records and Meara Music which is also an agency and event producer based in Ulvila.

The band comments Sorrower single:
“Sorrower” is the second single from the forthcoming I, Cursed EP. Where the EP’s debut single “Blades” was pure roasting and brutalization, “Sorrower” is a more dynamic and pedestrian crushing death metal/grindcore jam whose desolation drives the mind to figuratively tear down houses. “Sorrower” is accompanied by a visualizer video for promotion. The “Sorrower” single is released by small label Meara Music in collaboration with Inverse Records.”
