Symphonic metal collective IMPERIA has revealed new details about their forthcoming studio album “Dark Paradise”, that is slated for a release on July 26, 2024 via Massacre Records! Coming as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats, the pre-sale has just started at: https://lnk.to/imperiadarkparadise

A music video for their first single, the album opening track “Better Place” (now available on all digital providers at https://imperia.bfan.link/betterplace) is streaming here:

“Dark Paradise” marks a continuation of the musical style established in their previous release, “The Last Horizon”. The core of the album revolves around mid-tempo rock songs, some leaning towards a heavier sound while others adopt a poppier approach. Additionally, two power ballads are included in the album, adding depth to the overall composition. The album is characterized by its emphasis on guitars and orchestral elements. Helena’s vocals shine as she effortlessly transitions between operatic highs and brutal grunts, showcasing her versatility as a vocalist. Despite its concise length, “Dark Paradise” is a cohesive body of work, seamlessly blending symphonic and rock elements into a unified musical experience. While the album takes a step back from the more extravagant progressive elements of their past releases, it remains true to IMPERIA‘s signature symphonic and rocking style.

As the band celebrates their 20th anniversary with their seventh full-length album, “Dark Paradise” stands as a testament to their evolution and enduring commitment to their unique sound.

The collaboration between IMPERIA and Jacob Hansen for mixing guarantees a high-quality sound, given Hansen’s reputation for excellence in his field. Meanwhile, the band’s guitarist, Jan Yrlund, brings his artistic vision to the forefront, ensuring that the visual aspect of the album matches the depth and complexity of the music. The album also features guest musician Oliver Philipps (ex-Everon) on Piano, orchestrations, and additional guitars as well as additional vocals on the track “Lost Souls”.

With this collaborative effort, “Dark Paradise” is poised to deliver both sonically and visually, promising a captivating experience for fans of IMPERIA‘s music! Pre-order the album HERE!

Grand Slam release the video for “Come Together (In Harlem)”, the infectious third single from the new studio album, Wheel Of Fortune – out this week via Silver Lining Music.

Grand Slam directly engage with their talismanic, legendary founding energy with “Come Together (In Harlem)”, a moody, strutter of a song from the Phil Lynott days with (mostly) Phil Lynott’s lyrics.

“‘Come Together (In Harlem)’ is the only one song on the album which came from ’84,” offers guitarist and co-founding member Laurence Archer, “Phil (Lynott) had a little bit of a thing about pop music as we call it, and he started going down this pop line at the time. I went away, completely rearranged it, wrote another part, and just brought it into our back yard. The whole song is really about ‘let’s come together’. The original subject matter was derived from Harlem by Phil, and we’ve extended the song into something else.”

Watch/Listen to ‘Come Together (In Harlem)’ here Video Directed, Produced and Edited by Paul M Green.

Grand Slam’s story has been a true journey of destiny, one where early unions ended up leaving unfinished business on the table, and one which finally sees the band attending to said-business with the brand-new album Wheel Of Fortune. From Archer’s faultless, fearless fret-driven song architecture on ‘Spitfire’ to Dyer’s swagger and style on ‘There Goes My Heart’. There are moments such as ‘Come Together (In Harlem)’ where the spirit of original co-founder Phil Lynott is unmistakable, yet the multi-layered steamy swing of ‘Pirate Song’ makes it very clear Grand Slam are firing forwards with all guns blazing. Joined by Benjy Reid on drums and Rocky Newton on bass, the creative vigor and will to propel Grand Slam is stronger still, with the new album Wheel Of Fortune being the true statement to this.

Wheel Of Fortune will be released this Friday June 7th on digital and physical formats. The album will be available in a variety of formats and pre-orders can be placed at this location

US Rockers BLACK STONE CHERRY have revealed the live video for “When the Pain Comes” ahead of their trip to Sweden and Denmark this week. You can watch the video HERE.

They will be playing Sweden Rock Festival on 7th June and will be then headlining Voxhall, Aarhus in Denmark on 11th June.

The band tell us: “‘When The Pain Comes’ is a song that talks about squaring up with your inner pain and not letting it control you or take you over.  Sometimes we have to push ourselves to find out who we are and always be ready to face whatever obstacles that may be thrown our way.”

Talking about coming to play the shows the band say, “We are beyond excited to return to Norway, Sweden, and Denmark this June! We absolutely love playing Scandinavia! So much so, that we told our booking agents to make sure we got back there soon…and here we come! It’s been too long and we can’t wait to see you all! Come join us this summer !”

Chris Robertson (lead vox/guitar), Ben Wells (guitar/bkg vox), drummer John-Fred Young (drums/bkg vox) and bassist, Steve Jewell Jr. unleashed their hotly anticipated eighth studio album, ‘Screamin’ At The Sky’ via Mascot Records in September last year. They released a string of incredible singles at the time;  When The Pain Comes,   Out Of Pocket,  Nervous,  Screamin’ At The Sky and Smile, World.

‘Screamin’ At The Sky’ reached #3 in the US Current Hard Rock Album Charts, #6 in the UK Album Charts and Top 40 in Germany. The album features all-new material written collaboratively while on tour, but when it came time to record, BSC tried something they’ve always dreamed of doing: tracking an album at The Plaza Theater in Glasgow, Kentucky – a legendary 1020-seat venue built in 1934 that boasts meticulous acoustics.  In June of 2022, the band rented the whole place, brought in all its recording equipment and trusty engineer, Jordan Westfall.  They set up the basement as the control room and the stage as the live drum room.  Time between recording sessions and incredible room ambience have resulted in a career high watermark for BSC.

The band kicked off 2024 with a February-March tour of the US with Saint Asonia and then went straight into a run with the legendary ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd on their “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour ” of the US. They will also be joining Rival Sons and Clutch on their “Two-Headed Beast” tour of the US in September as well as playing Zakk Wylde’s Bezerkus Festival and Louder Than Life Festival.

Down the years, BSC has headlined 12,000-cap arena shows and shared the stage with an array of superstars, including Alter Bridge, Def Leppard, Gov’t Mule, Nickelback, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Mötorhead, Halestorm, Stone Temple Pilots, The Darkness, and ZZ Top.  In 2018, BSC performed in front of 100,000 people at the Download Festival as main support to Guns N’ Roses and in 2021, the band played the venerated Royal Albert Hall, immortalised on 2022’s live DVD ‘Live From The Royal Albert Hall…Y’All’.

Prog Legends WHITE WILLOW Reveal Details of Third Album “Sacrament” from Back Catalogue

Posted by tarjavirmakari on June 4, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: WHITE WILLOW. Leave a comment

The year is 2000, and it is the year that Norwegian Prog Legends WHITE WILLOW released what would be the band’s third full-length album.  Titled “Sacrament” the album would undergo a long, painstaking creative process, one that would ensure that the arrangements of each song were inventive, dynamic, and above all, beautiful.

After a lengthy period of rehearsals at the Norwegian Institute for Scene and Studio, WHITE WILLOW entered Lydkjøkkenet, a brand new studio run by Øystein Vesaas, a talented engineer whose patience and personality were a perfect fit for the band, allowing them time to experiment and try out different variations.

Recorded over an extended period of time, due to the fact that WHITE WILLOW’s founder Jacob Holm-Lupo was holding down a full-time job, the sessions for “Sacrament” would often run from the evening until well into the night. Despite the punishing schedule,  the whole band felt energized and believed totally in the material they were working on, so that instead of feeling onerous, the whole experience is remembered by them as an enjoyable time.

It is creation about which Holm-Lupo says:

“Sacrament” is the first album where I think we did everything really well

It was during the making of “Sacrament”, that the Prog scene itself was undergoing a period in which certain elements of the genre were beginning to filter through into mainstream music, which in itself gave WHITE WILLOW somewhat of a motivational boost.  The end result was an album  that not only received glowing reviews world-wide and healthy sales figures, it also received some mainstream recognition.

Now, as part of Karisma Records plans to re-release six albums from WHITE WILLOWS’ back catalogue, “Sacrament” has been  meticulously remastered by Holm-Lupo himself to become the third of the six scheduled releases.

Set to appear on the 5th July, this will be the first time that “Sacrament” will be released in vinyl format, and, along with the Limited Edition White Vinyl, it will also be available in CD and Digital formats.

Presented with the classic original cover art, track listing on “Sacrament” is as follows:

1. Anamnesis
2. Paper Moon
3. The Crucible
4. The Last Rose of Summer
5. Gnostalgia
6. The Reach

“Sacrament” is now available to pre-order from: Webshop:  https://www.karismarecords.no/shop/

WHITE WILLOW was formed in 1992 by guitarist Jacob Holm-Lupo, who at that time was a member of the POLICE/BRUCE HORNSBY-inspired pop band THE ORCHID GARDEN, and keyboard player Jan Tariq Rahman from local jazz-rock/prog rock band DUGGVÅTE DVE.

It was a case of two musicians coming together see if they had any kind of songwriting chemistry, and, whilst sitting on the floor playing acoustic guitar and clavinet, produced the track “Snowfall” which convinced them that they could, indeed, come up with something worthwhile.

WHITE WILLOW’s history, however, was never simple, with members having come and gone over the years  and only Holm-Lupo having remained with the band since its inception, whilst WOBBLER’s Lars Fredrik Frøislie has been a mainstay since 2001.

The band’s  sound too has undergone changes, but it’s safe to say that it is frequently centered around female vocals and an expanded instrumentation that usually includes a host of analogue synthesizers, mellotron, woodwinds and strings, in addition, of course, to traditional rock instrumentation.

Now, exclusively a studio project, WHITE WILLOW is noted for featuring guest appearances from prominent musicians such as  Norway’s guitar hero Hedvig Mollestad, or internationally renowned klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer.

By the time the re-release project is finished, Karisma Records will have released all six of the following albums:

Ignis Fatuus – 1995 (released Nov 2023)
Ex Tenebris – 1997  (released April 2024)
Sacrament – 2000  (due for release July 2024)
Storm Season – 2004
Signal to Noise – 2006
Terminal Twilight – 2011

More information about WHITE WILLOW can be found at https://www.facebook.com/whitewillowband/
