In the pantheon of heavy music, few names resonate as profoundly as ROTTING CHRIST. Behind a legacy that has both defined and defied the realms of black metal, the Greek legends carve out a fresh set of dark, melodic scriptures on their new album. Pro Xristou is a grandiose narrative born of fire, rebellion and an unbreakable spirit.

Pro Xristou is released today, Friday May 24th, on Season of Mist. Listen to all 10 epic songs by listening to the full album stream on our YouTube channel.

Order the album at https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/RottingChristProXristou

From the labyrinthine depths of Hades to the celestial might of Zeus, Pro Xristou embarks on an odyssey through the history of mythology and paganism. The album is a monument, etched with the profound lyrics of Sakis Tolis, that explores themes of defiance and enlightenment, set against the historical background of paganism’s last stand against monotheism. The title track sets the tone, opening the album with a battle cry that unites the chthonic with the divine, solidifying Rotting Christ’s journey from the underworld to the pantheon of metal gods.

Early praise for Pro Xristou

“Pro Xristou has all of the Rotting Christ hallmarks…this is the most arena-worthy Rotting Christ have been in some time” – No Clean Singing

“With Pro Xristou, Rotting Christ have summoned every diabolical riff and slaying beast that their career has produced and culminated it into a pummeling, brilliant, Gothic Black Metal attack on the senses” – Teeth of the Divine

“Pro Xristou demonstrated once again that Rotting Christ are dark melodic metal craftsmen and, still, amongst the best in their field” – Ghostcult (8/10)

“Their brand of blackened metal has changed a lot over years, mostly to being melodic, a little Gothic, and even having a tribal feel to some of their songs. “Pro Xristou” embraces these same components but presents them in a much more catchy way…” – Metal Temple (9/10)

“Pro Xristou” is not an album that will surprise us; on the contrary, it will seem familiar. Yet, the album is poised to be a memorable entry in Rotting Christ’s distinguished career.” – Metal War (9/10)

“One thing is for sure after all this: ROTTING CHRIST will never let us down!” – The Gallery (8/10)

In the dimly lit catacombs of extreme metal, one name stands as a monolith: ROTTING CHRIST. Sakis Tholis and his brother Themis started this band together back in 1987. In the three decades since, these Greek titans have left their blackened imprint all over the metal world. They’ve released 13 studio albums and played more than 1,300 concerts around the globe.  Underneath all this hard work, Rotting Christ have but one vision – an urge to not only push the boundaries of extreme metal, but to keep reinventing themselves along the way.

Rotting Christ’s evolution has unfolded across several distinct chapters. After starting out closer to the barely controlled chaos of grindcore, they went on to establish the iconic sound of Hellenic black metal. Their albums often embrace refined gothic soundscapes, only to plunge back into the depths of blasphemous fervour. Each chapter marked another, further exploration, and an unwavering commitment to push boundaries.

But the real turning point came in 2007, when Rotting Christ signed a pact with Season of Mist. They unleashed a series of albums for the French label that defied any and all expectations. From the piercing Theogonia and the symphonic grandeur of Aelo to the ritualistic intensity of Κατά Τον Δαίμονα Εαυτού, the cinematic experiences created by Rotting Christ became a spectacle of bombastic atmospheres, mesmerizing choirs, and neo-classical arrangements. The unexpected is their modus operandi, with the use of various languages (Latin, Arabic, Greek,  English) as well as the extensive use of famous poetry woven into their music, like Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’ on The Heretics.

In 2019, Rotting Christ’s epic journey continued with The Apocryphal Spell compilation, which offers fans an intimate glimpse into unreleased and rare material. This allowed them to gather strength, preparing for the release of their next, highly anticipated, 14th full-length studio album: Pro Xristou.

Pro Xristou
(‘Before Christ’ in Greek), serves as a fervent tribute to the last Pagan kings who resisted the onslaught of Christianity, guarding their ancient values and knowledge. In this thematic odyssey, intricately woven through tracks such as ‘The Apostate’ and ‘Ygdrassil’, Rotting Christ delves into the legacies of historical figures such as Flavius Claudius Julianus and Nordic mythological kings, embodying the might of Pagan wisdom in the face of Christian adversity. The album encapsulates the essence of Rotting Christ’s signature style – melodic, yet harsh at times – reinventing themselves yet again, while remaining rooted in their 35-year legacy.

Dark alternative metal act CRIMSON VEIL may still be a mystery to some parts of the metal world, but that is to finally be changed as the UK based four-piece showcase their signature sound with debut single ‘Flinch’ today. The track is also part of the band’s first offering titled “Hex,” which is set to mesmerize the worldwide audience from September 20, 2024 (Reigning Phoenix Music) and can be pre-ordered (jewel-case CD, black & red opaque vinyl in gatefold, digital) and pre-saved now, here: https://crimsonveil.rpm.link/hexPR

Stream/purchase the track: https://crimsonveil.rpm.link/flinchPR

Vocal aesthete Mishkin Fitzgerald comments, “‘Flinch’ is about the end of the world. As humanity, we are careening into a mass extinction due to our own choices and a lot of the time it feels like there is nothing that will stop it.”

‘Flinch’ is something different for thinking listeners: it’s a dualistic song that transitions effortlessly between aggression and euphoria. It opens with a classical string quartet arranged by Hana Piranha, drawing the listener in before exploding into atonal guitar riffs, accompanied by deep guttural death growls. At the complete opposite end of the genre spectrum, the song breaks away into trippy, dream-like soundscapes and eventually climaxes into a glorious guitar solo from Garry Mitchell. Tasteful and driving drums from Anna Mylee flawlessly carry the audience through this musical maze, while Fitzgerald flips between ethereal soft vocals into deep growls.

“Hex” – Track Listing:

01. Hex
02. Ribbons
03. Flinch
04. Shift
05. Illuminate
06. Opulence
07. Joyless
08. Awake
09. Task

CRIMSON VEIL live: 01.06.2024 CZ Pilsen – Metalfest

German melodic death metal maniacs, IMPACT APPROVED, unleash a face-melting lyric video for “Pigslaughter,” a brutal banger off their upcoming album, Way of the Warrior (dropping June 14th, 2024 via Wormholedeath).

“Pigslaughter” is an anthem for the disenfranchised, a sonic rebellion urging listeners to shed the shackles of conformity and embrace authenticity. Soaring melodies intertwine with a pummeling rhythm section.

Born in 2019, Impact Approved quickly carved their niche in the melodic death metal scene. Philipp (vocals) and Uwe (guitars, drums) laid the groundwork, joined by Maurice (bass) in 2020 and Armin (guitar) shortly after. After the critically acclaimed release of “Into the Fray” in 2021, the band toured alongside heavyweights like Heaven Shall Burn in 2022. With the departure of Armin, Matthias “Matze” Büsing steps in to complete the live lineup, ready to unleash the fury of Way of the Warrior on audiences worldwide.

DOL Release New Song ‘Dead Note’ – Born Out of Personal Tragedy

Finnish melancholic dark rock band DOL have released the single “Dead Note” from their upcoming EP to be released later this year.

Vocalist-guitar player Eero “Mc” Veri backgrounds the new song:

Tragedy… Death… Sorrow…

It can suck the life out of you. If you have faced it, you know how it is. Our family faced a huge tragedy two years ago and that is how this song got written. I have always known the best songs are born out of the worst moments of our lives; I actually have tattoo on my forearm saying “I=ART=PAIN” as a reminder for that. Ever since I wrote this song, I have felt that this truly is the best song I have written so far. Most personal and meaningful. The song itself came about quite easily, I wrote almost the entire structure, melody, and all the lyrics in one go. Of course, we finetuned it later as a band to be what it is now. Dead Note is also the debut song for our new keyboardist called Cantor-O, who did amazing job here with his pianos and soundscapes, that really put the song to a new level. Other musicians on the record were the familiar lineup from previous DOL releases:

Eero “Mc” Veri on vocals and guitar (that`s me) , Hades Faith on second guitar, Jykä “Low” on bass and Catsy on drums, as well as previously mentioned Cantor-O on keyboards/synths

Production on this song was really different compared to our last ep. We went to an actual studio, instead of using our home studios and did all the recording there, except for synths. We had our engineer/producer Arti Waine helping us on the recording part and he gave some good advice or two there as well. This time we also didn`t use almost any samples/programmed elements, that has been our thing in the past and we recorded real drums and amps instead of digital ones. It seemed to fit the song better and we always go with what serves the song best first, not what is the most convenient. That said we might go right back to more programmed elements on our upcoming ep, that this song will be part of as well… Let’s see. Tuning wise, we went down to drop C, that is a bit heavier sounding tuning than the regular drop D that we have used on our previous work. There are also new elements on the song, such as acoustic guitars and almost opera-style of singing, influenced by Nightwish.

The mixing was done by the talented young mixing engineer called Antony Potenza of Antony Potenza productions. This guy has done some amazing work on the field of modern metal, and he was awesome to work with. In fact, so awesome, that we agreed to work with him for this upcoming ep of ours, that we are now on process of writing the last bits for.

The end product Dead Note is just an amazing song, and we can’t wait to hear what our audience thinks about it and can’t wait playing it live on our upcoming shows.

Fresh from the release of their latest album, Hijacking the Zeitgeist, US progressive metal four piece EXIST have launched a competition to win a brand new Ormsby guitar. The band has teamed up with the Australia-based guitar company to give away an Ormsby Hype GTI Royal Blue 7 String guitar from their collection. To be in with a chance of winning, fans are invited to show off their shredding skills by submitting a guitar solo for EXIST’s recent album track, Thief of Joy. More information and competition guidelines can be found HERE.

EXIST’s Max Phelps comments:
“I’ve been playing Ormsby Guitars for the last two years and really love how they cover all of the bases for the variety of bands I play in (Exist, Death To All, Cynic). Since the majority of our listeners are likely musicians, we thought it would be cool to do something that would engage our fellow guitar nerds while simultaneously spreading awareness of both our new music and these amazing guitars from Australia. We’re looking forward to seeing all of the different perspectives and approaches on this portion of our song!”

Hijacking the Zeitgeist, which is out now via Prosthetic Records sees the EXIST expanding upon their extreme metal technicality and atmospherics with a more concise approach to songwriting, resulting in the most direct and emphatic album of their 14 year career.

DON’T BELIEVE IN GHOSTS Drop Anthem ‘Drowning’ for Battling Life’s Overwhelming Noise

Don’t Believe In Ghosts, the New York City-based alternative indie pop rock band, has just dropped their new song, “Drowning,” through Imagen Records/Warner ADA.

“Drowning” is available for streaming and download on all major platforms.

Don’t Believe in Ghosts is an alternative indie pop band formed and based in New York City. The ensemble is led by singer, songwriter, and producer Steven Nathan and features Dan DelVecchio on guitar and Ken Yang on drums. Since their inception, they have carved a niche within the vibrant music scene of New York, earning widespread acclaim.

In 2020, the band signed with Imagen Records/Warner ADA. They are widely recognized for their breakthrough track “Put Your Head Back,” which not only featured in the AppleTV+ series “WeCrashed” starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway but also graced the show’s soundtrack. The track, mixed by the renowned Mark Needham, known for his work with The Killers and Imagine Dragons, has garnered extensive praise nationwide.

The band’s last album, Solutions, has achieved significant success, surpassing 1 million plays, reflecting their growing influence and reach. Their discography also boasts multiple singles played on alternative radio stations across the country and more than 2 million plays on Retail Radio. They have charted at #2 on All Access and have had their songs featured on various TV shows, including “Ink Master” and “The U.S. Open.”

Their new single, “Drowning,” is a vibrant alt-rock dance track that captures the essence of indie pop dance. This track delves into the overwhelming sensation of struggling to keep up with daily life amidst constant distractions, symbolized through the lyrics ‘I see you drowning, in and out of it, Climbing higher just to see around it.’ Singer Steven Nathan poignantly reflects, “Sometimes the distractions are louder than the internal message and sometimes our passions are muted by the barrage of noise being thrown at us daily.” “Drowning” is a part of their upcoming album that promises a deeper exploration of lyrical content and experimentation with new styles, showcasing their evolution as artists.

Don’t Believe in Ghosts has been featured in major publications like American Songwriter, Kings of A&R, and Alternative Press Magazine, which included them in their “40 Artists You Need to Hear” list. They have toured extensively around the Mid-East and West, shared stages with acts like COIN at the House of Blues, and performed at “The Gathering” Radio Convention in Cleveland.

Steven Nathan encapsulates the band’s philosophy with the phrase, “Don’t give energy to the ghosts of your past,” emphasizing the importance of focusing on the present and moving forward without the weight of external judgments. Through their music, Don’t Believe In Ghosts continues to offer a blend of honesty, creativity, and relatable narratives, making every song not just heard, but felt.
