World On Alert, from Montreal, Canada, is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Gino LaPosta, and excitedly they are announcing the release of the compelling new single “Freedom in Disguise”, which is the second introduction to the debut self-titled EP that is coming out on June 28, 2024. This track features the exceptional talents of Max Rex (CroMagnum), and Nick Amalfi who join LaPosta and guitarist Alex Walsh. LaPosta comments on the single:
“Musically, this one is a heavy track with a soft middle that builds up to the heavy end again. You can hear some proggy Rush/Dream Theater/Tool vibes in there. Lyrically it is about standing up to the elites trying to control our lives and disguising it in freedom.”
LaPosta explains that this work is essentially a solo effort with some help from talented friends and Walsh’s guitar work on “Freedom in Disguise” adds a distinct energy and depth to the track. His contributions, along with the dynamic vocals from Rex and Amalfi, make this single a standout piece in the upcoming EP.
An act that had risen during the pandemic, LaPosta found solace in his studio, crafting riffs and lyrics. Collaborating with friends and family on this recording was a deeply fulfilling experience for him and it reflects their collective effort and synergy. It is recommended for fans of Rush, Tool, and Fates Warning.

Grammy-nominated artist Seun Kuti has announced his electrifying new song “Dey” featuring iconic four-time Grammy Award-winner Damian Marley. The track will be available on streaming platforms via Milan-based label Record Kicks on Wednesday, June 26. “Dey” is the first single from Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’s upcoming album dropping on October 4, 2024.
This is the first time that Seun and Damian have been on a record together, combining the raw energy of Afrobeat with the rhythmic vibes of reggae for a dynamic track that is sure to captivate audiences worldwide. The collaboration marks a historic moment of deep significance, with their brotherhood symbolizing the rebuilding of a bridge between Nigeria and Jamaica. This special sentiment is emphasized by Seun.
He says, “The song depicts African unity and African art. We are two performers, both from the dynasty of Africa, with a huge continental divide, singing about similar struggles. It doesn’t matter where we are positioned in this world, very few African people receive notability; we are for the most part seen as the underdog. Therefore, this song is all about embracing and championing who we are, regardless.”
Produced by a dream team of top tier artists, including superstar Lenny Kravitz (executive producer) and original Fela Kuti and Egypt 80 producer Sodi Marciszewer (artistic producer), “Dey” pays homage to the rich traditions of both Nigeria and Jamaica while pushing the boundaries of contemporary music. With its fusion of pulsating rhythms and infectious melodies, “Dey” is set to become a timeless anthem that transcends borders and resonates with listeners from all walks of life. This innovative track is a cultural celebration showcasing the tapestry of sounds that define African and Caribbean music.

Seun is a musician, singer, and songwriter renowned for his captivating global performances and socially conscious music. He is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and has spent most of his life preserving and extending his father’s political and musical legacy. He entered the ranks of Fela’s band Egypt 80 at the age of 12 as a developing saxophonist and percussionist, and, in fulfilment of his father’s wishes, he assumed the mantle as head of the band in 1997 when Fela passed. Seun has led them ever since.
Seun has released four albums during his career with Egypt 80: Many Things (2008); From Africa With Fury: Rise (2011), which was co-produced by Brian Eno and John Reynolds; A Long Way Beginning (2014); and Grammy-nominated Black Times (2018), which includes a feature from Carlos Santana. He has also joined forces with countless notable artists, including Janelle Monae on the singles “Float” and “Knows Better” from her Grammy-nominated album The Age of Pleasure (2023); Talib Kweli and Madlib on the song “Nat Turner,” which features Cassper Nyovest, from their album Liberation 2 (2023); The Roots’ co-founder and emcee Black Thought on their EP African Dreams (2022); and Vic Mensa on the record “Bad Man Lighter 2.0,” which is a new version of Seun and Black Thought’s hip-hop remix of a single from Black Times.

Former Type O Negative/ Danzig drummer Johnny Kelly and guitarist riff writer Dan Lorenzo (Hades / Non-Fiction) formed Patriarchs In Black at the end of 2021. The project included well known guests on vocals and bass including Karl Agell (COC Blind/Lie Heavy) , Jimmy Gnecco, Dewey Bragg (Kill Devil Hill/Bill Ward) among others. Their debut single “Demon of Regret” came out January 2022 and the full album “Reach For The Scars” was released July 1st 2022. Their 2nd album “My Veneration” was October 6th 2023 with multiple guest vocalists and bassists.
For the forthcoming 3rd studio album “Visioning” Dan Lorenzo has already written twelve new songs. Beside drummer Johnny Kelly it features again a bunch of great singers and bass players, like Dave Neabore (Dog Eat Dog), Karl Agell (Corrosion Of Confirmity), Eric Morgan (A Pale Horse Named Death), Mark Sunshine (Riotgod), Jason McMaster (Watchtower), Kyle Thomas (Exhorder) and many more.
The songs on “Visioning” combine elements of classic doom metal with modern sounds as well as excursions into hardcore/crossover.
The album was mixed and mastered at JROD Productions by Jon Cioicari.

German indie punks Amber have released their long-awaited debut album “Room For Understand”, which can be streamed in full, below.
The long-player will also be released on limited vinyl by DIY label Room 11 Records and can be ordered here.
Amber’s equally intense and melancholic sound, which is somewhere between emo and post-punk, is convincing in various contexts: Their charged songs are ideal for isolated daydreaming, but also for getting sweaty in front of the stage. The Bielefeld band’s music caresses and crushes at the same time – with shimmering shoegaze guitars, detached bass lines à la The Cure and driving drums that complement the washed-out soundscapes with a rock-hard tightness.
In their emotional impact and visual aesthetics, it is still clear that the members originally come from the hardcore world, but the vocals of frontman Levin Mertelsmann are now more clearly defined and melodic. In keeping with this, the guitar, bass and drums are also constantly looking towards wave and indie. The whole thing has a punky DIY spirit – they do as much as possible themselves, from merch to booking – and the group definitely sounds energetic, but also delivers an almost floating feeling. It is this dynamic range that makes Amber’s sound so unique.
The group also touches several nerves in terms of content: time and again, it is about the difficulties of coming to terms with one’s own world-weariness and the resulting feeling of powerlessness. But personal hurdles are also addressed, with many lyrics dealing with interpersonal worries and reflecting on oneself. “It’s about being lost in a world that has set the course against you and about the search for resolution,” Amber say about their debut album “Room for Understanding”. At one point it says: “Where do we go from here?” Hopefully to a place where we are finally understand.
