“Altar Of Instant Gratification” showcases relentless musicianship amidst the calculated chaos of crushing metallic riffs, frantic tempos, punishing breakdowns and the lyrical rage of hardcore punk.
The main theme of the Reykjavik’s band is the ever present feeling that Planet Earth is falling to pieces: most people are too busy in childish pursuits of instant gratifications and avoiding pain to embrace the fact that the world has become a bleak hardcore place!
To strive in it, you must be willing to show courage, think critically for yourself and don’t buy into dogmatic truths – hold yourself accountable and stay true.
This ain’t no record for fainted hearts, indeed.

Irish folk-metal pioneers Cruachan release new single ‘Talamh‘, their second song contender to represent Ireland in Eurovision. Last year they released their song “The Blacksmith”, a contender for Eurovision and now they release another song written for Eurovision. Cruachan wanted to show their Irish roots and highlight the growing Irish folk-metal genre. On May 7th, the contest will reveal who gets to represent Ireland in Eurovision Song Contest which coincides with Cruachan is releasing their new single ‘Talamh‘ through Despotz Records.
Quote from Keith Fay on ‘Talamh’:
“We thought it would be an adventure if it happened but alas, it was not meant to be. It doesn’t matter as we have two unique Cruachan songs to share with our fans while we write album number ten, last years ‘The Blacksmith’ and now ‘Talamh’. Talamh was written as though Ireland herself had a voice and was speaking of her tumultuous history. It is a lively song, on one hand mournful and on the other, hopeful. It will forever represent a ‘what if?’ to us and here we now share it with our fans.”
Ireland’s Cruachan have enjoyed a storied career since they took those tentative first steps back in 1992. As frontman and sole original member Keith Fay elaborates; ‘When I started writing music as a 13-year-old, I had no idea that I was laying the foundations for what would become a brand-new genre, Folk Metal, or that I was planting the seeds of what would be one of the longest running Irish metal bands in history. There have been many ups and downs over the last thirty years, band members have come and gone, record deals have come and gone. We’ve played some of the biggest metal festivals on the planet, travelled to more countries than most Irish bands would ever dream possible.
More about Cruachan: A man whose vision and passion for his band has never wavered in the ensuing three decades, Cruachan’s place in, not only in metal history, but that of Ireland’s musical landscape, has been hard earned and hard fought. But Fay was always confident that he and the band would always deliver. About their latest album he said:
“This album had to be good. No, it had to be better than good. This had to be the best Cruachan album ever made. I faced a decision in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, when three band members left the band. ‘Do I call it a day? or do I press on with the mammoth task of replacing everyone’. There was no real decision to be made, I worked way too hard over the years to allow Cruachan to fizzle out. I had been writing some of the best music of my career in recent years. I secured a record deal with a label (Sweden’s Despotz Records) that understood exactly what Cruachan and my vision is”
Since forming the band in 1992, it’s been Keith Fay’s singular vision that has steered the band for nearly thirty years. Appearing originally under the moniker Minas Tirith the band’s focus on Irish history and mythology prompted a change to more suitable Cruachan. The band’s blend of Irish folk music and metal was unique and in late ’93, their demo ‘Celtica‘ soon landed the band their first record deal with Nazguls Eyrie Productions. The first fruits of this endeavour was the band’s cult classic debut album, ‘Tuatha Na Gael‘, which hit the shelves in 1995 to critical acclaim. The band began to draw admiring glances from a number of bigger labels, but none suited the band’s ambition. They eventually signed with Hammerheart records and released ‘The Middle Kingdom‘ in 1999. ‘The Middle Kingdom‘ record saw the band make their first international live appearances. Their third album ‘Folk-lore‘ was produced by and featured the unmistakable vocals of The Pogues legend Shane MacGowan on ‘Ride On‘ which was a surprise hit single in Ireland. Subsequent releases, including ‘Pagan‘ and ‘Blood on the Black Robe‘ saw the band join up with AFM and Candlelight records and led to Cruachan hitting some of the biggest festival stages, including; Hellfest and 70, 000 Tonnes of Metal (where they became one of the few bands to ever perform three sets, one of which featured Gwar vocalist Kim Dyalla as special guest), as well as their own ‘25th Anniversary’ show in Ireland.
After a few tumultuous years band leader Keith Fay observes; “A number of long-term members chose to leave the band, but that prompted a time of rebirth for the band and it has only been a positive thing.” Despite the upheaval behind the scenes, one thing has never faltered; and that is Keith’s passion for folk and metal music, and Cruachan’s unique way of bringing the two together.

Germany-based melodic death metal unit ACT OF CREATION has announced the first details about their forthcoming, fifth studio album entitled “Moments To Remain”! The album will be released via Massacre Records on July 19, 2024 as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats, the pre-sale has just started at: https://lnk.to/momentstoremain
“Moments To Remain” can be considered as a continuation of the last three ACT OF CREATION albums, but it should still be seen as a stand-alone release.
Lyrically, all the songs revolve around the theme of time, which is also picked up on the cover in the form of a clock slowly dissolving in a lake. The “Moments To Remain” album cover once again depicts the girl who was reborn on “The Uncertain Light”. Now, however, she is already grown up, sitting in front of a lake, and reflecting on life. The whole album is based on the concept of reviewing an entire day and thinking about certain topics while sitting by the water.
A music video for the album title trrack is now premiering below. Vocalist Jess tells us:
“This is the title track and deals with the topic of memory loss and how important and beautiful memories are as well as the moments in life that you might not immediately remember. With a short intro and outro in the song, we transport the listener to the scenery from the album cover, namely the lake of memories.”
At the beginning of the songwriting process, the band decided not to be constrained by past successes and, as usual, began to express their current feelings and thoughts through music.
In order to give the album the maximum of energy and intensity, all songs on the album were recorded directly at the intended live tempo for the first time, so that every last bit of energy could be extracted from the material, thus ensuring that “Moments To Remain” reflects the intensity of ACT OF CREATION‘s live shows.
Furthermore, attention was paid to an even finer blend of all the band’s influences within the songs, which increases the progressiveness somewhat, while transporting the listener even more intensely into their musical world. With the new songs, ACT OF CREATION have succeeded in presenting a logical and consistent further progression of the band’s sound.
In close collaboration with audio engineer Dennis Koehne, a massive wall of sound has once again been created which, despite its incredible power, always leaves enough room for the subtle nuances of the band’s signature sound. The result is an album that, despite all its complexity, makes no compromises when it comes to a powerful performance and thus invites the listener on a highly emotional journey through the musical world of ACT OF CREATION!

Pujus of Jukra‘s second single, “Out of Time,” from their upcoming album “Tree Wishes,” is a song that weaves its theme around the unstoppable flow of time and the struggle to accept its relentless march. Though we may yearn to live in the past, a return is not possible; our only path is forward.
The song represents a more straightforward approach than the previous single “Close Enough,” yet it retains the vibrant and quintessential Pujus of Jukra energy and style.
Composers. Tuomas Riekkinen, Sasu Tammelin, Jonne Turunen Lyrics. Sasu Tammelin
Pujus of Jukra is a progressive rock trio from Jyväskylä, Finland, formed in 2017. The band’s first EP was released in 2018 and their debut album “Tree Wishes” will be released later this year.

Emerging West Australian outfit AMMIFY has announced that they have signed with Italian-based metal label, Wormholedeath, who will oversee global marketing and digital distribution for their forthcoming debut album, Lost, Not Hiding.
Featuring the musical pairing of Ammy Phoenix (vocals/lyrics) and Pete Renzullo (music/production) Lost, Not Hiding makes its way through the heavier genres. Still, the duo has themselves described it best as CineMetal.
“I am so excited that Wormholedeath is taking us on as a band!” says Ammy.
“I have never been more proud of any project as I am of Ammify, and I am so happy that thanks to Wormholedeath, we get to put it out for people to hear. There’s nothing quite like being able to share a piece of yourself like this and I really hope it makes people feel understood in a way they really need to be.”
Check out the band’s announcement video:
The cinematic lyrics and crushing soundscapes of Lost, Not Hiding speak like a song cycle of those who have been beaten down by life, by love, by relationships and by society… but not broken. And clearly resolute.
That it is the first album from Ammy and Pete is beyond impressive, the deep artistic connection between the two already speaks to the ages.
Part of the Warner Music and Sony Orchard Group, Wormholedeath has offices through Europe, the US, Japan, and Australia, distributing worldwide metal music, gothic metal, symphonic metal, and thrash metal.
“They said it was a very powerful album and they mentioned Ammy’s voice, of course,” Pete says. “They were just very impressed that the style was quite unique. One of the guys said that we’ve managed to find our own universe and that of the artists they’ve previously signed, nothing like this has come across before.
“Ultimately for me, the biggest thing about getting signed to a label is that they see what we have created here, which was essentially a passion project. As Ammy and I were writing the album we were saying, ‘There’s something about this’. The fact that an international label has found value in this is really exciting and just so promising.”
“Lost, Not Hiding” is released internationally by Wormholedeath on June 14th, 2024.
November 30th 2023 saw the release of the debut album by death metallers ABYSS OF HEL entitled “Into The Abyss”. The versatile, partly modern and groovy work caused quite a stir, not least because of its high-class line-up, and the first bookings were not long in coming. For example, you can see the band live at this year’s “Heimburger Metalnacht” at the end of July!
For all those who don’t yet know what to expect there and on the longplayer, the band has now produced a video clip for the album’s title track, which is now available to watch on the MDD YouTube channel. Check it out! The album is available at various retailers worldwide!
