DISTORTA Sign with WormholeDeath Records for Release of Debut EP “A Devil in the Dust”

Distorta, a powerful heavy metal band hailing from Ballarat, Australia, are excited to announce they have signed a deal with WormholeDeath Records to release and promote their debut EP – A Devil in the Dust. The EP was produced, recorded, and mixed entirely by the band themselves, taking a hands-on approach to generate a sound and feel that aims to replicate the power and energy of their live performances.

The five songs on the EP incorporate a wide range of metal styles and influences that have impacted the five band members over the years. Several recent positive EP reviews have described Distorta’s sound as having elements of Groove, Death, Power, and Thrash Metal blended into the songs, with one reviewer stating:

“The overall sound is quite mixed in the best possible way. A few pressers and reviews go on about heavy metal, but this is solid groove-based death thrash with definitely some metalcore vibes. But the better elements of all these styles are utilized to make the confident and competent style shine.” – (Devil Horns Zine, 2023)

With the reviewers comparing the sound with the likes of Megadeth, Metallica, Testament, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Parkway Drive, and Lamb of God among others, there is something for everyone on this EP.

A Devil in the Dust EP focuses on a few core themes that, unfortunately, are very relevant to the world today – War, Mental Health, and Addiction. The opening track Tomorrow People is an apocalyptic look into the future and the need for people to fight for freedom. The title track of the EP, Devil in the Dust, focuses on the mental struggles of a returned war veteran and the battle to survive at home and in society. Chasing Shadows is written from the point of view of an addictive drug speaking to and mocking an addict. Bones is about a couple in a car accident caused by someone else and the husbands wish to get vengeance before he dies. The final track, Suffocate, focuses on a recovered drug addict trying to resist the temptation to do it again and the mental struggle in his own head.

Tracklist

  1. Tomorrow People
  2. Devil In the Dust
  3. Chasing Shadows
  4. Bones
  5. Suffocate

Distorta was originally formed by James Bogers (Guitar/Vocals) and Chris Hanrahan (Drums) in 2015 with Dave Prodanovic (Bass) joining the band soon after. With several other guitarists and singers rotating through the band, the current lineup was solidified in 2022 with the addition of Dom Davey (Guitar/Vocals) and Dimitry Keremetskiy (Lead Vocals).

Distorta are eager to commence working closely with the team at WormholeDeath to promote the EP and are fired up to see where it takes them.

SOUL EXTRACT Releases New Single ‘Innerspace’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on March 14, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SOUL EXTRACT. Leave a comment

Soul Extract continues his orchestral rock journey with Void Chapter member and labelmate Brian Skeel in this new single cinematic rock single “Innerspace.”

Building up momentum from the start “Innerspace” is an ethereal journey into the microcosms. In his own words Soul Extract explains, “From my passion of the microscopic unseen world came a track that will hopefully pique the interest of those who have dismissed the subatomic and quantum world as mundane science. Working with Brian Skeel on this song is what brought this idea to life and I am super thankful to share this with him.”

Purchase/Stream: https://link.fixtmusic.com/innerspace

Fueled by guitars, synthesizers, and a dynamic vocal performance from Soul Extract “Innerspace” explores the depths of the smallest worlds we’ve yet to touch. Orchestral strings blending with chugging guitars, and impassioned vocals, powerful rhythms, ethereal melodies, and the electrifying combination of bass, drums, electric guitar, and synthesizers that Soul Extract has come to be known for “Innerspace” is truly a prime example of cinematic rock at its best. Take the journey inside. You won’t regret it.

Cerebral. Beautiful. Violent. Soul Extract taps into a wealth of human emotions and experiences to generate a listening space that is as intense and unpredictable as life itself. The highly personal inspiration for Soul Extract’s creations gives every song an invigorating level of creative clarity, and the artist’s willingness to smash through genre barriers puts him at the forefront of modern music.

Although Soul Extract’s stylistic approach fits within the broad scope of electronic rock, labels can’t begin to describe the exploratory, borderline progressive nature of the songs themselves. Josh Mullis, the architect behind Soul Extract’s elaborate compositions, brings a deconstructive mindset to his craft, tearing apart genres and fusing their most compelling elements back together to build calculated and highly detailed tracks.
This analytical approach to Soul Extract began to take shape in 2013, and after years spent synthesizing the sounds of metal, electronic, and orchestral music, the artist unleashed his fiery debut album, Circadian Algorithm. Loaded wall-to-wall with emotive vocals and explosive instrumental sections, the album has laid the foundation for a developing career with an upward trajectory.

Mullis’ passion for music began at a young age, and he has traditionally pulled from deeply personal events for his creative stimulus. Finding escape from family struggles by picking up a guitar as a teenager, Mullis discovered those early creative efforts were able to carry him through unpredictable times. As an adult, a motivating force for his music rests within humanitarian endeavors, as Mullis donates proceeds from Soul Extract to New Day Foster Home (http://www.newdayfosterhome.com), a charity that supported the health of his adopted daughter at an early age.

For Mullis, music is an indescribable force capable of sparking intense emotion, and this force is the essence of an artist in its purest form. As the project name suggests, Soul Extract is Josh Mullis’ unaltered expression of himself, and his passionate approach to songwriting shines through on every track he produces.

Finnish musician Tomy Laisto from bands like Hateform, Pain Confessor, Mors Principium Est, Omnium Gatherum and Arc Spectra is about to release first full length album as a solo artist with his own name. New single, alt country -flavored song “Circular Spill”  from the upcoming album is now released on music services. The single features singer Rainer Nygård from legendary Finnish metal band Diablo as guest vocalist.

Listen to the single on music services (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer etc): https://push.fm/fl/tomylaisto-circularspill

Tomy tells about the song:

“This one came out when i tried to make a countryish song but it turned out something completely different. Things sometimes go in circles and Circular Spill is like a testimony or a penance in a way. Been knowing Rainer for a number of years, i knew he had a soft spot for Kris Kristoffersson and Jason Isbell, among others, and when asked he was ready an’ willing to do it! Rainer’s vocals are really powerful and he really did lift this song up which i am grateful of! At the ending i got to plug my Fender Strat a bit to add some more epicness and it turned out sweet!”

5/12 | Toledo, OH | Ottawa Tavern*
8/10 | Three Forks, MT | Rockin’ The Rivers (w/ Stone Temple Pilots, Hoobastank)

(*w/ Oceans on Other Planets)

Simon Says has also announced the digital release of their breakthrough independent release Perfect Example, remastered by Richard Easterling (Taproot) which will be available on digital outlets for the first time on Friday, April 5th via THC: Music.

The band announced in September they had reunited with their original lineup – Vocalist Matt Franks, Guitarist Zac Diebels, Bassist Mike Arrieta, and drummer Mike Johnston, for the first time in over 20 years, and are working on material for a new studio album to be released in 2024 via THC: Music/Amplified Distribution.

Additionally, the band’s 2 major label releases Jump Start and Shut Your Breath have both been made available on all digital and streaming platforms for the first time.

Simon Says formed in the buzzing Sacramento scene of the early 90s, among the ranks of contemporaries like Far, Papa Roach, Will Haven etc, and released their first demo EP in 1994, followed by two independent LPS, the cassette only Little Boy, and the follow-up Perfect Example, which would sell more than 5000 copies, and define the sound that would see the band signed to Hollywood Records a short time later. In 1999 Simon Says released their major label debut Jump Start, which yielded the hit modern rock singles “Life Jacket”, and “Slider”, which both charted in the Top 40 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.

The band would go on to release their darker and heavier fan favorite sophomore LP Shut Your Breath in 2001, which spawned the single “Blister (Nothing)”, which again found its way onto the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, and saw the band touring Worldwide performing alongside Creed, Staind, Filter, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, Blink 182, Deftones, Monster Magnet, Rollins Band, Kid Rock, Type O Negative, and many more, before disbanding in 2001.

Franks, Diebels, and Arrieta, with drummer Dave Marich, formed the short-lived Key To Arson, which released the independent LP Light ‘Em Up, before disbanding in 2004.

Despite the 20+-year hiatus, the members of Simon Says have stayed active, not veering far from their musical roots, with guitarist Zac Diebels producing music in his Sacramento studio, and dabbling in his project Automatic Static with Simon Says vocalist Franks, who also plays bass in progressive Sacramento band SAGES, with Far drummer Chris Robyn. Bassist Mike Arrieta had a brief stint in Cleanse, while drummer Mike Johnston found a niche as one of the top internet drum instructors with mikeslessons.com, spawning the celebrated Youtube drum instruction page “mikeslessons” with over 230k followers.

Says vocalist Franks, “It really happened by accident. We got back together and got in a room to even discuss this stuff, because of the huge amount of fan interest in the first two records, which, at the time, were not even available digitally. So, we got together to discuss that, and try to figure out how to reconnect with our former label, Hollywood, and find a path to release for those records, which really sparked a renewed interest and friendship for all of us, after getting in the same room after so long.”

He adds, “As so much time had passed, you realize hurt feelings from 20 years ago don’t really matter anymore, and I think we all have kind of a renewed appreciation and respect for each other, and the ability for us to even be able to play music together. We’re just thankful there are so many fans still pulling for us, and looking forward to whatever new experiences this next chapter will bring, for us, and the fans.”
