I VEGGENTI is a Neapolitan rock band with various influences that releases their new single titled “La Bella e La Bestia” today through Volcano Records & Promotion. The song is available on all online platforms and an enigmatic and cryptic video is on YouTube, and takes the listener into the universe of this unique rock band, blending progressive and psychedelic elements, 60s reminiscences, and singer-songwriter aesthetics.

While the rhythmic section delineates a powerful tonal horizon, the fuzzy guitars evoke stoner moods, framing the highly original voice of the Veggenti’s frontman, drawing heavily from the rich authorial tradition of the 20th century in themes and interpretation.

I Veggenti debut on Volcano Records with an introspective piece that promises intriguing future developments.

But for now, let’s start with “La Bella e La Bestia”, available below.

MANIC EDEN – Former Members of Whitesnake – Reissue 1994 Self-Titled Album

Manic Eden released one solitary gem of an album in 1994, and today, Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group is proud to announce the reissue of the self-titled album on 12 April. It will be released on CD, and made available digitally and on vinyl for the first time. Watch the visualiser for “Can You Feel It” HERE.

You can pre-order the album HERE.

It was 1993, and Whitesnake was on a hiatus. David Coverdale was working on an album with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Adrian Vandenberg (Guitar/Keys), Rudy Sarzo (Bass) and Tommy Aldridge (Drums) decided to put a band together.

Remembering the time, Vandenberg says, “Rudy, Tommy and I just came out of the glamorous ’80s, having surfed the world’s biggest stages on the waves of the multi-million selling Whitesnake albums ‘1987′ and ‘Slip Of The Tongue’. The expensive, polished Whitesnake videos had been all over MTV non stop. Then the Grunge scene hit.”

Vandenberg wanted a more ‘organic’ sound, one that reminded him of the bands he grew up listening to; Cream, Free, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Mountain. “They still sound timeless and exciting and a bit ‘rough around the edges’,” he continues. “Pretty much always recorded in a very short period of time, so the spontaneity, dynamics and emotion in the musicians’ performances are right in your face. Mixed in such a way that the listener feels he or she is right there in the room while the band is playing.”

Monk holds wooden rosary and cross in hands

The moment came for them to return to their roots; bluesy, honest, in-your-face and ‘organic’ music. After a week or two of rehearsing in Palm Springs, they started working in a small, funky, authentic 70’s recording studio in Los Angeles. They had recruited Ron Young, the singer from American hard-rockers Little Caesar, to take on vocals for the recording. Young came off the back of two acclaimed albums with Little Caesar and a cameo appearance in the Hollywood blockbuster movie Terminator 2.

The band had already recorded the instrumental tracks, and Young adapted his vocal lines to the tracks. His instantly recognisable signature style fitted the songs and their approach perfectly. The recordings were done in about two weeks, 70’s style.

Looking back, Vandenberg reflects, “When the album got its worldwide release, it was tough to get radio airplay because of the drastically changed ‘music fashion of the week’. Of course, we were anxious to hit the road and tour all over the place, but in the end, we only did an acoustic tour in France, which was a lot of fun. While in Paris, we recorded an extremely budget-friendly video for the song ‘Do Angels Die’, filmed by two students from the film academy in Amsterdam. Still one of my very favourite videos and songs of my career.”

He finishes by saying, “Personally, this album is a timeless work of honest, organic ‘Blues-Rock With a Twist’ by four musicians who’ve always been in the music business out of passion for music and who play from the heart. I’ve always been very proud of the Manic Eden album that my friends Ron, Rudy, Tommy and I recorded in 1993. After hearing the songs a million times, I still play the album regularly, which says a lot. It’s the real deal.”

Thirty years later, honest, authentic hard-rock is flying high by both the original torchbearers and those inspired by it, so what better time for ‘Manic Eden’ to resurface as a hidden gem from a bygone era.

FOLKRIM Unleash Folk-Infused Metal Fury ‘Suoherran Hovi’, New Full-Length “Embers” Out April 5th

Posted by tarjavirmakari on March 15, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: FOLKRIM. Leave a comment

Folkrim, emerging from the dark solitude of Finland’s Western coast, has evolved from a one-man project to a fully formed folk-infused death metal band. Comprising drummer Eetu Ritakorpi, guitarists Iiro Sarman & Otto Hyvärinen, bassist Viktor Suominen, and frontman Erno Helander, Folkrim is ready to spread fear with their new full-length album, “Embers”.

“Embers” tells a twisted tale of descent, from a shipwreck through decaying marshlands to a grand epic of destruction. Songs like “Bottle of Poison” showcase a modern structure filled with violence and speed. Viktor Suominen describes the album as more grounded, sticking to a single theme, with a journey that gets progressively gloomy and dire. The band’s sound has shifted towards less humppa/drinking songs and more towards melodic death and thrash.

Influenced by bands like Ensiferum, Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Children of Bodom, and Nekrogoblikon, Folkrim‘s music blends folk metal with melodic death and black metal elements. “Embers” promises a unique musical journey, reflecting the band’s evolution and commitment to their distinct sound. The future awaits, daring listeners to face the dangers along the way.

Today, FOLKRIM unleashes folk-infused metal fury with their latest single “Suoherran Hovi” accompanied by an electrifying video that can be seen below.

“What would a Folkrim version of a dingy swamp sound like? The answer comes in the form of SUOHERRAN HOVI, the second single to be released from our forthcoming album ”EMBERS”. Whereas the first single relied on speed to get its violent point across, this song approaches the problem from a different direction. The riffs are fat, chuggy, and groovy against a straight pounding of the drums. Dirty, almost jazzlike instrumentation and arrangement lays a twisted layer into the soup. And finally, a sprinkling of growls in the harsh Finnish language is set on top and the witch’s brew is complete.” adds the band

VINTERSEA Release Video for Latest Single ‘Devil’s Churn’

VINTERSEA are pleased to bring you the fifth music video from their current album, Woven Into Ashes. The latest track is one of the top streamed songs from the album so the band gives you a powerful visual accompaniment. Check out “Devil’s Churn” below.

“As soon as the album dropped, we knew ‘Devil’s Churn’ was an instant fan favorite. Jeremy’s crazy drumming, combined with Jorma’s nasty riffing, kicks the song off in a brutal fashion before we pull the rug out and switch to Avienne’s hauntingly beautiful chorus,” explains bassist Karl Whinnery, who also shoots all of the band’s music videos.

“The video for ‘Devil’s Churn’ needed to capture the brutal energy of the song and showcase melancholic beauty all at the same time. What better place to capture some of Oregon’s beauty than at the wreck of the Peter Iredale? Its skeletal frame drops hints of what’s to come… ‘Devil’s Churn’ lures you in, and then you’re ours. Forever.”

“‘Devil’s Churn’ is a beast of a song – one that always generates huge energy and impassioned responses when we perform it live,” furthers guitarist Riley Nix. “It hits hard and fast from the first note and only lets up to take your breath away with a melodic and atmospheric moment. The heaviest and nastiest song on Woven Into Ashes needed a nasty video, and Karl really delivered with some incredible footage of Oregon paired with high-energy band shots.“

“Devil’s Churn” follows four previous music videos culled from Woven Into Ashes from the creative and visionary band including “Lonesome Tide” https://youtu.be/XohTI06z-GU, “Into the Horizon,” https://youtu.be/je7hjjwrGug,  “Unveiling Light” https://youtu.be/dmWX0Fm8ttE and “At the Gloaming Void” https://youtu.be/y-ztBVt8xXg giving a broad sample of the majesty and breadth of the group’s third opus harnessing progressive, melodic and blackened tendencies into a profoundly unique vision.

Woven Into Ashes has been greeted with strong sales, high critical praise and support from metal radio nationally. The follow-up to the band’s 2019 release, Illuminated, was released on CD, Digital and 2LP ltd colored vinyl version. Physical and digital link HERE www.lnk.to/wovenintoashes

Woven Into Ashes again features cover art by Ne Obliviscaris’ singer Xenoyr and is engineered by Gabe Johnston (Unto Others, Silver Talon), while mixing was handled by the team of Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (Rivers of Nihil, Lorna Shore, Black Crown Initiate) with mastering courtesy of Troy Glessner (Devin Townsend, Underoath, Moonsorrow).

VINTERSEA will perform at this year’s Mad With Power Fest, the annual power metal/heavy metal festival with a gaming element that takes place in Madison, WI. This year’s lineup includes Japan’s Anthem and England’s Fellowship alongside Oceans of Slumber, Starkill, Magic Sword, Lords of the Trident and more.
8/2 – 8/3         Mad With Power Fest – Madison, WI

VINTERSEA create a unique fusion of majestic progressive metal with harsh blackened death and post-metal beauty which draws inspiration from the darkened skies of their Pacific Northwest home. From haunting vocal melodies to fierce growls, VINTERSEA delivers heavy, emotionally powerful and technically intriguing music that is undeniably inspired by the majesty of their surroundings. The group built an organic and devoted following through impeccable and illustrious music videos (with combined views of over 3 million), social media outreach and tours with Moonspell, Eleine, Oceans of Slumber, Dawn of Ouroboros, Graveshadow, Voices of Ruin and Cyber Octopus, as well as playing regionally opening for Fleshgod Apocalypse, Obscura, Thulcandra, Wolfheart, Ne Obliviscaris, Jinger, The Ocean, Arkona and Sirenia.

VINTERSEA is:
Avienne – Vocals
Riley Nix – Guitar
Jorma Spaziano – Guitar
Karl Whinnery – Bass
Jeremy Spencer – Drums

NOCTURNA Release Video for Second Single ‘Strangers’

Nocturna have released a video for “Strangers”, second single taken from the new album “Of Sorcery And Darkness” to be released on April 19th by Scarlet Records.

video by RKH Studio
  • Recorded, mixed and mastered by Andrea Fusini at Fusix Studio (Frozen Crown, Volturian, Be The Wolf);
  • illustrated by frontwoman Rehn Stillnight;
  • FFO: Nightwish, Powerwolf, Within Temptation, Winds, Unleash The Archers, Ghost, Epica;

“Of Sorcery And Darkness” will be released in the following formats:

  • digipack CD
  • vinyl LP
  • digital

The sophomore record of the band founded by the formidable frontwomen Grace Darkling and Rehn Stillnight – featuring the Frozen Crown/Volturian/Be The Wolf mastermind Federico Mondelli as songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist – was recorded, mixed and mastered by Andrea Fusini at Fusix Studio; Rehn Stillnight took care of the delightfully grim artwork and illustrations.

After the success of the 2022 mesmerizing debut album “Daughters Of The Night” (which mixed gothic-symphonic and power metal elements, alternating between fast & heavy neck breaking episodes and intense, piano-oriented ballads), Nocturna once again delves into the meaning of the term ‘duality’ and all its more morbid connotations.

The romantic inspiration of the lyrics of “Of Sorcery And Darkness” combines harmoniously with the band’s sophisticated sonic approach, and the celestial voices of Grace Darkling and Rehn Stillnight paint mysterious and sensual portraits of an ancestral time (yet so close to us).

Embrace the night.

“Of Sorcery And Darkness” tracklist:

  1. Burn The Witch
  2. Sapphire
  3. Noctis Avem
  4. Creatures Of Darkness
  5. Midnight Sun
  6. First Disobedience
  7. Seven Sins
  8. Through The Maze
  9. Strangers
  10. Last Day On Earth

Nocturna:
Grace Darkling – vocals
Rehn Stillnight – vocals
Hedon – guitar
Antares – bass
Deimos – drums
