For Mental Health Awareness Month, Musician, Author, Composer (Guns n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) and mental health advocate Duff McKagan joins Dr. Marc Brackett on a new episode of “Dealing With Feelings”. The pair discuss Duff’s childhood, sobriety, martial arts, Duff’s mission to inspire others.

Duff recalls how training in martial arts was a catalyst in helping him maintain his sobriety and change his outlook on mental health and personal growth. Marc and Duff use their shared experiences with martial arts to discuss emotion regulation techniques they’ve learned throughout their lives.

Duff takes Marc through his mental health journey and details how alcohol and drugs were used as self medication for his panic attacks, and since becoming sober, how he deals with that. He talks with Marc about his childhood, and the ‘emotional climate’ of his household while he was growing up.

Duff says, “My childhood, there was chaos, big family, the last of eight kids, and my parents went through an awful divorce. Infidelity, and I saw it, coming home from second grade and seeing the infidelity on the bed, and your mom’s at work and your dad’s retired? To have to keep that secret because I didn’t want to destroy my mom. These types of things really influenced me. You can say ‘Keeping stuff in? That’s probably why you got panic attacks later on.’ Maybe, who knows? But I can say all these things, gnarly stuff like I just told you, and there was plenty of it. But, didn’t we all go through it, some version of it?”

Duff also details about not having much of an opportunity to talk about his feelings with anyone while growing up, but finding the bass changed that.

DUFF: “If you hear Slash play a guitar solo. Every night it’s a different thing. He’s a guy that doesn’t talk a lot, never has, I’ve known him for 40 years. But, man, when he plays there it is. He’s talking to you, he’s talking to everybody.”

As a husband, parent, and artist, Duff speaks about his emotions and the emotions of his loved ones within the context of his family. When speaking about what it’s like in a band Duff says, “Being in a band is like being in a big family… Once you realize everyone wants the best out of a song, nobody’s trying to hammer down on your part like ‘That sucks. You suck, What’re you even doing?’ Nobody means anything like that. We want the best song we could have. On stage, nobody’s trying to upstage somebody else. Once you realize these things about your bandmates, hopefully you can get your band to that place.”

Upcoming guests on “Dealing With Feelings” include star of AMC’s The Walking Dead and musician Emily Kinney, EPIC leadership founder Rich Hua, former Navy SEALs Rich Diviney and Cory Zillig, Dr. Jenny Wang, and more.

This episode comes during Mental Health Awareness Month. “Dealing With Feelings,” hosted by Dr Marc Brackett, premiered in February and has welcomed groundbreaking science experts, musicians, actors, and others sharing their expertise and mental health journeys including Singer/Songwriter Jewel, Author, Angela Duckworth, Dr. Ethan Kross and Dr. Alfie Breland-Noble among many others.

The webcast offers viewers practical ways to improve their emotional lives with proven emotion regulation strategies to achieve greater well-being. Marc and his guests exchange personal stories of triumph, failure, and everything in between while tapping into cutting-edge research to create better tools for success.

LCTRISC Rework Latest Single ‘Can’t Help but Hold On’ into Perfect Summer Jam

Synth pop duo LCTRISC was formed in 2009 by Adam Jonsson and Oskar Linnaeus in Borlänge, Sweden and with influences from MGMT, Empire of the Sun, Ratatat and, above all, Gorillaz LCTRISC crafted a unique sound. Following their previous successes with “Swords and Serpents” (2020) and “Coming Over” (2021), the dynamic duo of LCTRISC took yet another bold step forward earlier this year with their latest single, “Can’t Help but Hold On.” This new track saw them delving even deeper into emotional landscapes while blending nostalgia with contemporary rock influences. Adam Jonsson now take the song on under his solo-project Glamour Hammer remixing it into a perfect summer jam.

“Can’t Help but Hold On” is a poignant exploration of the aftermath of a breakup, capturing the raw essence of heartache and the struggle to move on. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the protagonist’s daily battles with change, attempting to find solace amidst the pain of separation. As the song unfolds, listeners are taken on a journey through the complexities of post-breakup life, where the inability to let go becomes a recurring theme. The encounters with the ex-lover portrayed in the song reveal the internal conflicts of pretending to be okay while still being deeply entangled in emotions. With “Can’t Help but Hold On,” LCTRISC encapsulates the universal experience of wrestling with heartbreak and the difficulty of truly letting go. Their ability to craft emotionally resonant music while seamlessly merging nostalgic elements with contemporary rock influences sets them apart as true artists.

Listen to the remix, tomorrow on May 17th on all major streaming services here

Having previously secured a significant sync placement for their track “Here Comes The Wizard” with Skoda Fabia in 2014, which aired on TV and radio across Europe, LCTRISC has a proven track record of success. Their past singles have received praise from notable outlets such as Consequence Of Sound and Popjustice, solidifying their position in the music industry. The duo has also captivated audiences worldwide with their electrifying live performances, from Emmebodafestivalen in Sweden to venues in Tokyo, Japan. “Can’t Help but Hold On” is set to resonate with listeners on a profound level, further cementing LCTRISC‘s reputation as innovative and emotionally compelling musicians.

Glamour Hammer is the nom de plum of Swedish-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Adam Jonsson. In the comfort of his home studio, Glamour Hammer swings back and forth between creating dance-oriented disco house and jazz-infused dream pop with a sense of escapism and tongue-in-cheek attitude while always aspiring for a sense of timelessness and analogue feel. Drawing inspiration from a multitude of genres the most influential are 1970s-80s Funk, Disco, boogie, Classic rock, Latin rhythms and Afropop. After the release of his ‘Tropical Suite Pt.1‘ in the end of 2020 Glamour Hammer followed that with collabs. and remixes from the likes of French electronic disco mastermind YUKSEK and internationally acclaimed EDM-producer Oliver Nelson, who both remixed his work. The single ‘Is It True‘ was also part of the compilation Too Slow To Disco presents: Modern Daytime Disco released by City Slang (non-exclusive license) alongside ie. Kraak & Smaak, Poolside, Prep, Yuksek, Luxxury. His music has also been much appreciated in the world of sync, where the placement of his single ‘Stay with me‘ in the Norwegian film ‘The Worst Person In The World‘ is the most prominent. The world is now waiting for the upcoming Glamour Hammer EP called LOVE.

The remix will be available on all major streaming platforms on May 17th, 2024.

THE MOURNING Release New Single + Video ‘He Cries’ from Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 16, 2024

The human design is strange in a very specific way: It is based on psychological archetypes that seem to fit together like a lock and key. Unfortunately, however, this coding results in a paralyzing standstill: Some permanently radiate their emotional status, others permanently absorb such streams and reflect them as new parts of themselves. From this we have created the idea of a superperson: What if someone could not only take on our emotional distress, but also remove it from us in the process? Someone who not only cries with the mourners, but for them, as an emotional proxy, so to speak?

The idea persisted and still causes millions of people around the world to implore a divine power in the face of suffering and grievance, instead of taking matters into their own hands or persistently tackling those who are at the helm.

With He Cries, a rather melancholic song from the upcoming album Hush that flows into the ear like a black river, THE MOURNING turn their attention to precisely this seemingly universal human quirk. The prog metallers around the singing philosopher Johnny Ray and his constant duet partner Eliana Blanchard achieve something that one would not initially expect from hard prog: Set in motion by the soulful intro of keyboardist Alex Nasla (ex Witherfall), the band opens the window to a soundscape in which the world’s cries of despair are forming mountains – in an acoustic beauty and harmony that is otherwise more likely to be created by combined chants of prayer, which the song is also faintly reminiscent of. And thus one thing quickly becomes clear: The Mourning are not questioning faith itself. They merely advocate that man-made problems should also be solved by us, not God.

It’s songs like this that can greatly empower us by bringing back to mind that we, too, possess the power of creation.

ABOUT THE MOURNING

What started out as a simple recording project of vocalist and composer Johnny Ray and drummer Jason Berlin (son of famous bassist Jeff Berlin) in Tampa, Florida, in 2017, became a journey of self-discovery, soon attracting kindred spirits until the band was complete with all-rounder Alex Nasla (ex Witherfall, producer, vocalist and keyboardist), Italian musician and composer Francesco Pinter (guitar), lead vocalist Eliana Blanchard and guitarist Phillip Colacecchi.

After the release of their quite experimental EP Theosis in 2018, in which the band embarked on a journey to discover their true sound and a message of their own, The Mourning are now ready to present their first full-length album Hush, to be released on June 24, 2024. It shines thanks to a much heavier emphasis on guitars, including the use of slap guitar, grooving riffs, angelic classical guitar, face-melting guitar solos and much more in the band’s sound that was originally highly influenced by Opeth, Steven Wilson and Haken, as they underline: “On this album we also took the harmonies to the next level with the soulful vocals of Eliana Blanchard, giving the songs a much richer harmonic sound and unique sonic identity.” The striking energy between the contrasting voices elevates the experience beyond the one-dimensional atmosphere of the typical, inviting the listener to join the band on their turbulent voyage, on which they combine the cold precision of progressive metal with raw emotional energy: “We are trying to give listeners insight with the backdrop of a virtuous soundscape that opens the mind to new ideas, concepts, and inner growth. Some albums take your hand on its journey – Hush takes you on an introspective journey of your self.”
And one thing is absolutely clear: This is only the beginning of a grand journey for The Mourning.

Leading the way was Chaos Machine, the first video single and album opener.
