The Cold Stares, known for their electrifying blend of blues-rock, have just announced details of their highly anticipated seventh studio album, ‘The Southern,’ set for release on September 6th via Mascot Records. Delving deep into their Southern roots for the first time on record, the album embodies a true reflection of their heritage. “When it came time to record this album, I thought about everybody giving us this Southern rock tag, and decided to intentionally write songs that explore that,” says singer-guitarist Chris Tapp. “In doing so, I realized that being Southern, for me, is more than an accent, and a setlist of songs. It’s about family and tradition.”

Pre-order The Southern here – https://lnk.to/TheColdStares

Tracklisting:

  1. Horse to Water
  2. Coming Home
  3. Looking For A Fight
  4. Blow Wind Blow
  5. Confession
  6. Level Floor Blues
  7. Seven Ways to Sundown
  8. No Love in the City Anymore
  9. Giving It Up
  10. Woman
  11. Mortality Blues

The latest single from the album, “Coming Home,” is a plaintive, bluesy number played on dobro, echoing the depth of Southern familial ties and personal resilience. “Perhaps our most rootsy song to date, I wrote this song after a trip back to my hometown in Kentucky,” Tapp shares. “Touring the world and seeing so many countries has made me realize how unique the place I grew up was, and this song is just about getting back to our roots and where we came from.” Tapp sings about the enduring advice of his father: “My Father said son don’t forget to pray/Cause you know there will come a day/When this old world turns against you/You better have a plan to make your way.”

Initially formed in 2012, The Cold Stares began its career as a duo, but expanded its sonic firepower with the addition of bassist Bryce Klueh in 2022. The Cold Stares has been praised by Classic Rock Magazine, No Depression, and American Songwriter, among other outlets; reached #1 on Amazon Music’s Blues Rock album chart; earned prime sync license placements in commercials, on major network television, and on sports games. Their song, “Mojo Hand,” is the trailer song for Cyberpunk 2077, and has amassed over 10 million streams on YouTube. The band has shared stages with
Larkin Poe, Rival Sons, Reignwolf, JJ Grey & Mofro, Spoon, Grand Funk Railroad, and Thievery Corp.

Though the trio has below the Mason-Dixon Line origins, the group mines a woolier sound than expected. Fuzzed-out guitars, Zep-style riffs, and fleet-fingered Cream-style improvisations abound, as do nods to Delta blues.

“Our version of the South is different,” says Tapp. “When Brian and I were young, we would sit in with these old guys at the local lodge, at the time they were still playing the old hits by Bad Company, Robin Trower, and AC/DC mixed in with country and southern rock – artists like the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd. When I heard Free’s ‘All Right Now’ I thought they were from Georgia!”

Drawing from the wild tales his grandfather shared with him, Tapp’s cinematic songwriting weaves narratives as vivid as the Western movies they watched together. These stories of crooked cops and outlaw heroes, and local legends like “Hoppy” who tapped out rhythms while shining shoes, infuse the album with a rich, narrative depth. It is thus fitting that one of the standout tracks is titled “Coming Home,” a song that encapsulates the essence of these tales and the sense of returning to one’s roots.

“We are so proud to tip a hat to Kentucky on this album, and embrace being ambassadors of the South,” Tapp concludes, bringing the journey of ‘The Southern’ full circle—a heartfelt tribute to the land and stories that shaped them.

MACHUKHA Unleash Music Video for Second Single ‘Inodi padaye snih tak lahidno krizʹsosnovu khvoyu’

Berlin, Germany based post-black metallers MACHUKHA have delivered another intense taste of their highly-anticipated debut full-length record, entitled “Mochari”, which will be coming out on June 7 via Consouling Sounds.

After the release of the first single “Bezpliddya”, the band follows up today with a brand new video for the track “Inodi padaye snih tak lahidno krizʹsosnovu khvoyu”.

“‘Inodi padaye snih tak lahidno krizʹ sosnovu khvoyu’ translates to ‘Sometimes the Snow Falls So Gently Through the Pine Needles’. It is about acceptance and fragility. Accepting that sometimes the snow falls so gently, it cracks the pine needles“, MACHUKHA comment. “The music of this part feels injured, fragile and was brought to the world as a response to deep internal pain. A soon to be mother that has been in labour for dozens of hours, without the needed medical support, in a cold and deserted place – only to give birth to a stillborn. When the quietness in between the moments becomes deafening and you’re begging for your body to dissolve itself“.

Furthermore, the band shares more insights about the video and its meaning:
“The music video for this part is a continuation of the first music video that Machukha has released – in this video, we are going deeper into the conflict that was presented in ‘Bezpliddya’. Two characters are intertwined. One is unable to recognize the other. They are both immobilised, because of this. They are both suffering because of this.

Machukha hired the ritualistic performance artist The Ljilja for these music videos. This is the part in which we are pulling the focus onto the character that she is portraying and are showing that the story is about what her character is going through. The Ljilja’s work is rooted in making the subconscious, conscious and bringing it to the light – by embracing the shadow.
”

MACHUKHA, whose name translates to “step-mother” in Ukrainian, infuse elements of post-black metal, dark hardcore and punk into their music, creating a sound that is as raw as it is powerful. With diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds and through mutual understanding and collaboration, they have established a creative process that reflects the band’s primary goal: to express their shared experiences of retaining humanity in a harsh world.

The band’s upcoming debut album “Mochari” is about resilience. It explores the human capacity to withstand atrocities and continue surviving day by day. Lead vocalist Natalya, who sings exclusively in her native Ukrainian language, uses her voice as an outlet for genuine anguish and the band’s lyrical and musical narratives reflect their own journey – allowing oneself to embrace pain and learn how to let go of it, by surrendering to it.

The music of MACHUKHA is a sonic landscape filled with intricate guitar melodies, intense bass lines, and rhythmic drum patterns that will captivate your senses from the very first note. Each musical element supports the others, with every moment and tone carrying a specific intention. Together, they create a sonic landscape that thoughtfully guides listeners through precise emotions from the very first second.

“Mochari” has been recorded by Jan Oberg at Hidden Planet Studio (Downfall of Gaia, The Ocean). Mix and master by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Studios (Deafheaven, Amenra, Wiegedood).

The album is available for pre-order here:
– CD – Black LP (Limited to 100 copies) – Dirty Pink LP (Limited to 200 copies)

Tracklist:

  1. Trymatys’
  2. Dykhay
  3. Bezpliddya
  4. Inodi padaye snih tak lahidno krizʹ sosnovu khvoyu
  5. Tsyu tayemnytsyu duzhe vazhko berehty

Modern metal quintet The Oklahoma Kid have released a video for their brand new single ‘No Sympathy’, out now via Arising Empire. Known for their very own blend of genres, the avant-garde five-piece never fall shy of pushing the boundaries and breaking old conventions.

With lyrics that cut through the facade, ‘No Sympathy’ confronts betrayal and personal empowerment. As the raw vocals declare, “I can see right through you,” the band delve into the complexities of resilience and self-realisation. ‘No Sympathy’ challenges listeners to confront their emotions and take control of their own fate. With its powerful message and intense energy, this track is sure to leave a lasting impression.

The song is about the struggles faced by vocalist Tomm Brümmer as he entered adulthood. This is his take on toxic masculinity for himself and the those, especially FLINTA (German for LGBTQ+), who suffer from it. He commented: “You are heard, I will do my best for a change.”

The Oklahoma Kid deliver breathtaking modern metal that bridges the gap between technical intricacy and energising rhythms. Since forming in 2012 the band – consisting of David J. Burtscher, Fred Stölzel, Robert Elfenbein, Tomm Brümmer and Andreas Reinhard – have consistently pushed boundaries and have established their foundation in the German metal scene.

After their successful debut album Solarray (2019) and struck by the global pandemic, The Oklahoma Kid set their focus on writing new music with one simple goal in mind, to better themselves and give every fan something to crave for – their 2022 album Tangerine Tragic.

Tangerine Tragic is built on the strengths of their debut Solarray. It plays with new ideas and concepts, comes gentle as a breeze and strikes hard as a wrecking ball. The album was recorded and produced by Jan Kerscher (Ghost City Recordings) and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc (Alpha Wolf, Polaris, Dealer), which gives the production its full-blown punch.

The Oklahoma Kid toured the country with renowned acts such as Stick To Your Guns, Carnifex, EvergreenTerrace and Hatebreed, electrifying crowds with their passionate, relentless performance.

The Oklahoma Kid are no longer an insider tip and a force to be reckoned with. Whether you experience them live at a festival or on record in your living room, The Oklahoma Kid will change your perception of what metal is capable of.

The Oklahoma Kid are:
Tomm Brümmer | Vocals
Fred Stölzel | Guitar
Andreas Reinhard | Guitar
Robert Elfenbein | Bass
David J. Burtscher | Drums

EXIST Share New Music Video for ‘Thief of Joy’

EXIST have shared a new music video for Thief Of Joy. Thief Of Joy is taken from the US progressive metal band’s new album, Hijacking the Zeitgeist, which is out now via Prosthetic Records. EXIST’s latest full-length sees the group expand upon their extreme metal technicality and atmospherics with a more concise approach to songwriting, resulting in the most direct and emphatic album of their 14 year career.

Order Hijacking the Zeitgeist here

Speaking on the music video release, Alex Weber (bass and vocals) comments: “Thief of Joy was one of the first tunes that we started working as a band on during the writing process for Hijacking the Zeitgeist and is still my personal favorite.

“One of the most dynamic tracks on the album, it’s got everything from soft and ethereal atmospheres to heavy and sludgy breakdowns with everything else that has come to shape EXIST‘s sound in between. It also features an amazing solo from our friend and fellow Marylander, Sanjay Kumar (Wormhole, Inferi). He brought an incredible energy and personality and it’s always a pleasure working with him.”

Similarly to 2020’s Egoiista, EXIST took on a keen co-production role for Hijacking the Zeitgeist as recording sessions commenced in early 2022, with the band emphasising a collaborative approach to the songs arrangements. Drum co-production was handled by John Douglass (Mr. Bungle, Entheos and The Contortionist) before vocals were handled by Mike Semesky in the winter.

Hijacking the Zeitgeist’s sonic heft isn’t without its diaphanous counterpoints, as Phelps and new addition Charles Eron (guitar and synths) craft deceptively complex interplay on album high points in Thief of Joy (featuring Sanjay Kumar of Inferi and Wormhole), Blue Light Infinite and soaring closer Window to the All. EXIST’s sonorous sonic landscape is bolstered by immersive rhythmic lock-ins between Alex Weber (bass and vocals) and Brody Smith (drums), that shine in Anup Sastry’s mix and Kris Crummett’s mastering work.

At the core of Hijacking the Zeitgeist lies a multifaceted exploration of algorithmic rabbit holes, conspiratorial paranoia, and the universal traits that lie within humanity – these cautionary tales are tied together in striking detail with album art by Sebastian Jerke. EXIST treats both the allure and perils of both digital mazes and the real world, with equal parts wide eyed awe and horror.

Hijacking the Zeitgeist tracklist:
1. Blue Light Infinite
2. Thief of Joy
3. Hijacking the Zeitgeist
4. Funeral Toll
5. A Path to Nowhere
6. One Degree Removed From Human
7. Window to the All

EXIST is:
Max Phelps – Guitars and Vocals
Alex Weber – Bass and Vocals
Charles Eron – Guitars and Synths
Brody Taylor Smith – Drums

NASTYVILLE‘s new single “Livin’ in a Mess” will be released on May 18th. It will be available on all the best music stores in digital format, on Wanikiya Record’s shop in Japan and on the Crashsound Distribution showcase.

“Livin’ in a Mess” – It’s basically about the abuse of power by the powerful, which can range from harassing people in the workplace, all these fucking wars at the expense of the marginalized, and so as a result you’re always living in a total mess.

Nastyville was born in 2012 from an idea of Danny boy (drummer) and Dave ( Guitar) to put a new face on the rock genre. The first record Viva hell-A from 2015 features old-school riffs and the bite of the best street/glam rock, with Lex on vocals Kruska on bass and Manuel on guitar.

After the exit of Lex and Kruska cotinuate their journey with Mark Lee on vocals (still on the force) and Fabian Anderchen, with the release Glam Caramel (2017), distributed and produced by Volcano Records record with more metal sounds, which gave the band the opportunity to open for the Italian tours of Skid Row, Crashdiet, Enuff’z’nuff, Adam Bomb, John Corabi, Simon Wright and many-others.

The latest album Songs of Threesome released in 2022 distributed and produced by Delta Records sees yet another lineup change with Dega on guitar, Paul (formerly THEE S.t.p.) on bass.

In 2023 Danny Boy exits the band to make room for Christian on drums. The band is working on new material, with an all new and modern sound refreshed and regenerated by Chris Tabeat on skins, who brought a more reasoned and genuine sound, and the brand new bassist Carlo Giordano, who recently joined the band, who already notes the arrival of new blood for the band!

German melodic death metal phenomenon IMPACT APPROVED is back with a vengeance, unleashing their powerful new album, Way of the Warrior, on June 14th, 2024 via Wormholedeath Records.

Following the critical acclaim of their 2021 debut, Into the Fray, Impact Approved wasted no time forging a new sonic path. Witnessing the electrifying response to live tracks “The Truth” and “Atelophobia,” the band honed their sound, pushing the boundaries of melodic death metal with djent and deathcore influences.

A Warrior’s Journey: Behind the Scenes of Way of the Warrior

The creative fire burned bright within the band. Guitarist and drummer Uwe spearheaded the initial songwriting, crafting roughly 90% of the music. Bassist Maurice then joined the fray, adding his signature touch with basslines and atmospheric flourishes. Songs like “Isolation” showcase this collaborative spirit, where final touches and structural changes elevate the music to new heights.

The meticulously crafted foundation received its final layer with vocalist Phil’s impassioned delivery. Each track on Way of the Warrior boasts a distinct personality, a testament to the band’s diverse influences and relentless experimentation.

A Legacy Forged in Steel: The Spartan Warrior Returns

True to their artistic vision, Impact Approved maintains a thematic connection to their debut. The iconic Spartan warrior, a symbol of resilience and strength, graces the cover of Way of the Warrior, embodying the album’s spirit.
