Swedish rock ‘n’ roll band Blues Pills deliver catchy new track Don’t You Love It from their forthcoming album Birthday. The song will also be released on a limited split 12” with album title track Birthday, exclusively for Record Store Day 2024 on April 20th.

A stompin’ anthem to get the party started, Don’t You Love It is about living in the now and trying to have fun “You’ve gotta let that sh*t go” states frontwomen Elin “When life is hard, but you let things go and find the positives. Don’t take life so seriously, just go for the ride and let loose.”

You can hear influences from The Rolling Stones to Patti Smith, with a driving infectious bassline courtesy of Kristoffer Schander. Elin, sometimes channelling Brody Dalle other times more Janis Joplin, delivers her own effortless charism a and charm on this poppy number.

It’s rare for Blues Pills to be so upbeat “we have a lot of depressing lyrics, we have a lot of depressed sounding songs, but this is a song to dance to!” continues Elin. “It’s a breakout for us to have such a positive song!” agrees Zack (guitarist).

Don’t You Love It was written at home in Elin’s living room, “We were feeling good, Blues Pills are in a good place, and we wrote the lyrics based on that feeling.” Zack and Elin are both feeling positive about Blues Pills “I’m having fun” says Elin giggling. “It’s some thing that came with age” states Zack“ We’ve been a band for a long time and with this album, and at this point, it’s firstly about having fun making music. In the earlier days there was a lot of pressure, now we’ve let all that go.”

This is a song to shake it to, shake your booty or shake your tambourine, either is great with Blues Pills – “Our drummer André” Elin reminisces laughing “When we were in the studio, he’d have this really serious look on his face, then he’d say, what do you think about a tambourine on this song? Or, I have an idea, do you think this is a tambourine song?”
Zach continues smiling: “When the whole band is trying to crack the code of what the song is missing, André looks up and said, ‘Do you guys think there should be a tambourine here?’”
“Don’t You Love some serious tambourine?” Elin says laughing.
Don’t You Love It?

And what do Blues Pills love these days?
Elin: “Everything happened so fast in our early 20’s with the band, we had no experience, now we’re just enjoying. Now we’re doing press releases, yesterday I was doing babyswim. Then I’m changing diapers.”
“Don’t you love it?” asks Zack laughing “That’s what makes it more fun now you realise there’s more to life than just music, there’s more to life than just the band. There’s so much more we love in life now.”
Elin: “A dark roasted cup of coffee in the morning with a little bit of milk”
Zack: “It’s the little things in life”

ICY STEEL join Wanikiya Record Roster

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 20, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: ICY STEEL. Leave a comment

Italian heavy metallers ICY STEEL have signed with Wanikiya Record. The label shared about the signing:

With immense pleasure, we announce the entry into the Wanikiya Family of the band ICY STEEL! We are really happy to announce this wonderful twinning, which will bring both of us, to experience some amazing new emotions in the music scene! Soon all the news folks!!!

The band was officially born in January 2005 from an idea of the singer/guitarist Stefano
Galeano, whose love for Heavy Metal has always deeply influenced his artistic and
musical training.

Since the dawn of the band, Stefano has carried on the project only with the strength of his
spirit, recording demos of songs with a multitrack device using drum samples, which have
proven to be essential for the formation of the band, even when everything was far from
being effective and consolidated.

After this period of stasis, fate meant that drummer Alessandro Oggiano contacted
Stefano, and after some rehearsals he officially became part of the first incarnation, albeit
incomplete, of Icy Steel, making a very important contribution.

Subsequently Alessandro contacted his friend Alberto Eretta to propose him to become the
band’s guitarist; the feeling between him and the other two members proved to be strong
right away, and the band began to no longer be just an idea, but something truly concrete.
The next step was to find a bassist to complete the line-up, and this place was
subsequently filled by Roberto Ladinetti, the last missing gem.

All that was missing was a name for the band, something triumphant, epic, exciting and
incisive at the same time. They unanimously opted for ‘Icy Steel’: the cold epicness of the
North and the hardness of steel.

As time passed, Alessandro and Alberto left the band for personal reasons. Their places
were taken by Carlo Spiga on drums and Simone Spissu on guitar.
Carlo remained with Icy Steel for a year, during which the band participated in various
opening concerts for big names such as Pino Scotto (historic singer of Vanadium), and
after which he decided to leave to continue his artistic career in Germany.
Simone remained for another few months, during which he gave great help, both live and
in the studio, before leaving the band and continuing with his musical projects.
The next members were Claudio Sechi, who participated in the recordings of the second
album ‘As The Gods Command’ and helped the band for a long period before leaving his
place to Flavio Fancellu; and Pietro Bianco on guitar.
With this line-up Icy Steel opened concerts for other important bands on the international
metal scene such as Labyrinth and Raven.

On May 11th, 2013 they participated in the Metalitalia Festival, performing on the same
stage as Uriah Heep, Destruction, Vicious Rumors, Demon, Sadist and many others; and
they had the opportunity and honor to perform the song ‘Metal Warriors’ by Manowar
accompanied by Kenny “Rhino” Earl (historic drummer of Manowar on the album ‘The
Triumph of Steel’) behind the drums.

From that moment on, a succession of events began for the band, including line-up
changes, other concerts and new albums, in fact in October of the same year the bassist
Roberto Ladinetti left the band and his role was taken by Carlo Serra; while guitarist
Pietro Bianco left the line-up in 2017, which subsequently saw other guitarists such as
Daniele Diana, Marco Scanu and finally Andy Mornar, with whom the band released the
single ‘Inner’, and with whom the band recently finished recording of the latest album
‘The Wait, The Choice And The Bravery’, with Mornar himself also in the role of
producer.

In the period from 2013 to 2017 Icy Steel produced 2 albums (‘Through The Ashes’ and
‘Guest On Earth’, which sees the participation of prestigious guests from the international
Metal scene such as Steve Di Giorgio, Rhino, Ralf Scheepers, Mike LePond, Ross The
Boss, etc.) and had an intense live activity that led them to share the stage with bands of
the caliber of Manilla Road, Dragonforce, Mago de Oz, Dark Tranquility, Vision Divine
(featuring the drummer Mike Terrana) and many others…
