ULCERATE Premiere New Single + Video ‘To Flow Through Ashen Hearts’

New Zealand Death Metal luminaries, ULCERATE, continue their unstoppable forward momentum with the premiere of a second track from highly anticipated new album “Cutting the Throat of God“. The telepathic trio – drummer Jamie Saint Merat, guitarist Michael Hoggard, and bassist/vocalist Paul Kelland – once again amplify the borders of their artistic vision in truly dynamic style.

ULCERATE now introduce new song ‘To Flow Through Ashen Hearts‘, accompanied by a haunting video from acclaimed visual artist Dehn Sora (AMENRA, BLUT AUS NORD, THROANE).

‘To Flow Through Ashen Hearts‘ masterfully interweaves edge-of-seat complexity with slower, mysterious and twisted melodic passages. Venturing beyond the traditional realms of their unorthodox Death Metal sound, ULCERATE explore unprecedented sonic dynamism while retaining all of their skillfully destructive essence.

Discover the already released first single, ‘The Dawn is Hollow‘, and its accompanying video here.

All details about the new album can be found here!

Scheduled for release on June 14th, “Cutting the Throat of God” will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital. Accompanying the launch are specially designed t-shirts (men/women) and hoodies. Pre-orders are possible via the label’s EU, US (no women shirts) and Bandcamp shops.

Additionally, ULCERATE is set to take the lead at our inaugural label festival, Servants of Chaos. This momentous event is scheduled to take place on October 18th and 19th at Resonanzwerk, in Oberhausen, Germany. In a special showcase, ULCERATE will perform an exclusive, extended set that will not only feature new album, “Cutting the Throat of God“, in full but will also include a selection of their earlier work.

Originating from Auckland, New Zealand, the unorthodox Death Metal ensemble ULCERATE was conceived in 2000 by guitarist Michael Hoggard and drummer Jamie Saint Merat. Their initial intention was to craft dark, oppressive Death Metal – a vision that subsequently evolved into an innovative, nuanced approach embracing atmospheric and mood-rich elements. This progression was significantly influenced by the addition of bassist/vocalist Paul Kelland, pushing the band’s will for constant development even further.

ULCERATE‘s artistry is characterized by a whirlwind of scything art-metal guitars, thunderous, intricate drumming, and guttural vocal roars which create an overwhelming sense of impending doom. This signature sound was perfectly executed on their first three groundbreaking and highly dissonant albums: “Of Fracture And Failure” (2007), “Everything Is Fire” (2009), and “The Destroyers Of All” (2011), each of which have become milestones.

Recognition from fans/critics and extensive touring brought about a partnership with the esteemed label Relapse Records. The resulting two albums “Vermis” (2013) and “Shrines Of Paralysis” (2016) found the band heading to deeper and darker climes, proving ULCERATE to be at the vanguard of modern Death Metal.

In 2020 ULCERATE joined pioneering French Extreme Metal label Debemur Morti Productions due to a shared artistic vision. The same year marked the release of the band’s sixth album, “Stare Into Death And Be Still,” a groundbreaking exploration of melody, harmony, and power. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and limited touring opportunities due to travel restrictions, “Stare Into Death And Be Still” garnered widespread acclaim, noted for its unique mixture of emotive melodicism and crushing darkness.

In 2022 and 2023, ULCERATE were finally able to triumphantly tour Europe, Australasia and the United States, showcasing their unparalleled technical skill and creative vigor as they presented the compositions of “Stare Into Death And Be Still” on stage.

The year 2024 will herald the arrival of “Cutting the Throat of God“, a mind-bending seventh album from these unparalleled Death Metal titans.

TÝR Unleash Full-Length Album “Battle Ballads”, Out Now

Battle Ballads, the outstanding ninth full-length studio album from Faroe Islands-based Viking metallers TÝR is out today on Metal Blade Records!

A crushing, soaring, batch of classical embellished songs that conjure images of galloping steeds, clashing swords, and hard-fought victories, with Battle Ballads, TÝR has composed an album that resounds with their trademark Viking metal sound. At the same time, the band has experimented with new writing styles and musical techniques and created songs that are structurally simpler, yet musically more variegated. There’s no escaping the masterfully meticulous blend of melody and savagery on Battle Ballads.

“We consciously decided to make this a more direct album with songs that are easier for listeners to get right away,” notes founding frontman Heri Joensen. “With Battle Ballads, there are progressive elements here and there, but we tried to keep the songs based on one or two musical ideas each, and work on everything from there. It’s more concise than our last album, but it’s more epic because of the symphonic elements.”

As much as TÝR would have liked to write, rehearse, and record with a symphony, scheduling conflicts made it impossible. So they did the next best thing. Joensen sent the band’s ten thunderous compositions to a Danish colleague, Lars Winther, in England, who added the orchestral samples, paying close attention to the tone and tempo of the songs so the violins, violas, cellos, woodwinds, and horns complimented the traditional rock instruments. When the samples were all in place, the album sounded impressive, but the tones weren’t perfectly blended. So, TÝR sent the album to veteran producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, The Black Dahlia Murder, Amaranthe) in Denmark to put together the final mix.

EXIST Share New Music video for ‘Window To The All’, New Album Out Today

US progressive metal band EXIST has today shared a new music video for Window To The All, the visual features footage of the band performing the track live in Charlotte, NC in January. Window To The All is taken from EXIST‘s new fourth album, Hijacking the Zeitgeist, which is been released via Prosthetic Records today (April 12).

order Hijacking the Zeitgeist here.

Speaking on the music video release, Max Phelps (vocals and guitar) comments: “Window To The All is the album closer for Hijacking The Zeitgeist. It probably contains some of the most ‘tech death’ parts on the album although it’s also chock full of groove as well as a beautiful jazz fusion solo executed by Charlie Eron (our new guitarist, WAIT). Musically there’s some great interaction between Alex Weber (bass) and Brody Taylor Smith (drums) that really adds life and depth to some of the repeating riffs. Lyrically the song reflects on the limitations of our vantage points as humans and how we are all stuck within ourselves.”

EXIST’s latest full-length sees the group expand upon their established dichotomy of extreme metal technicality and sanguine atmospherics with an intentionally more concise approach to songwriting, resulting in the most direct and emphatic album of their 14 year career.

Similarly to 2020’s Egoiista, EXIST took on a keen co-production role for Hijacking the Zeitgeist as recording sessions commenced in early 2022, with the band emphasising a collaborative approach to the songs arrangements. Drum co-production was handled by John Douglass (Mr. Bungle, Entheos and The Contortionist) before vocals were handled by Mike Semesky in the winter.

Hijacking the Zeitgeist’s sonic heft isn’t without its diaphanous counterpoints, as Phelps and new addition Charles Eron (guitar and synths) craft deceptively complex interplay on album high points in Thief of Joy (featuring Sanjay Kumar of Inferi and Wormhole), Blue Light Infinite and soaring closer Window to the All. EXIST’s sonorous sonic landscape is bolstered by immersive rhythmic lock-ins between Alex Weber (bass and vocals) and Brody Smith (drums), that shine in Anup Sastry’s mix and Kris Crummett’s mastering work.

At the core of Hijacking the Zeitgeist lies a multifaceted exploration of algorithmic rabbit holes, conspiratorial paranoia, and the universal traits that lie within humanity – these cautionary tales are tied together in striking detail with album art by Sebastian Jerke. EXIST treats both the allure and perils of both digital mazes and the real world, with equal parts wide eyed awe and horror.

Hijacking the Zeitgeist tracklist:
1. Blue Light Infinite
2. Thief of Joy
3. Hijacking the Zeitgeist
4. Funeral Toll
5. A Path to Nowhere
6. One Degree Removed From Human
7. Window to the All

EXIST is:
Max Phelps – Guitars and Vocals
Alex Weber – Bass and Vocals
Charles Eron – Guitars and Synths
Brody Taylor Smith – Drums
