PROFANATICA are at the vanguard of the first wave of American black metal. Founded and led by infamous master of black perversion Paul Ledney (drums/vocals), they have purveyed primeval blasphemy for nigh on thirty-three years.
Ledney formed the band from the ashes of the first INCANTATION lineup when he split and took with him all of the members sans John McEntee. That early trio of ex-INCANTATION members reeled off three ground-breaking demos of some of the most extreme and blasphemic metal of its time in rapid succession. The band flyers that permeated the tape-trading circuit were no less shocking and featured the trio bloody and naked and in the throes of what was most certainly a primeval summoning of some kind. In short order, they had inked a deal with the fledgling Osmose Productions for what became one of that labels first releases (Osmose release #5); a legendary split with Colombia’s MASACRE.
Something so volatile could only last briefly, and after another brief recording session the band collapsed under the weight of its own extremity. but the recordings made in this two year window went on to see dozens of reissues in the coming decades, in a testament to how formidable and formative they are to the black metal scene worldwide.
After almost fifteen years spent with his equally polarizing solo project HAVOHEJ, Ledney reignited the flames of PROFANATICA in 2006. Reemerging with a new deal from Hells Headbangers, Ledney and his new band released ‘The Enemy of Virtue’, a collection of that vaunted early material, and a new fulllength, ‘Profanatitas de Domonatia’. A triumphant return, ‘Profanatitas de Domonatia’ picked up right where these Kings of US Black Metal left off, delivering a savage stream of chainsaw guitars and relentless battery upon which they desecrated everything sacred.
This set-in motion another frenetic burst of work for PROFANATICA. The next decade saw them
unleash four new full-length albums of blasphemous perversions, sacrilegious incantations, and furious black metal. In addition, the band issued six mini-albums and EP’s, a full DVD of early footage, and began touring internationally in Europe and in Central and South America. For the first time PROFANATICA were appearing near or at the top of the bill at festivals like Maryland Death Fest, Messe Des Mortes, Hells Headbash, Prague Death Mass (Czech Republic), Chaos Descends (Germany), Black Sun (Spain), Tyrant Fest (France), SWR Fest (Portugal) and many more.
In fall 2018, PROFANATICA joined forces with Season of Mist and undertook their biggest tour to date supporting WATAIN and ROTTING CHRIST across Europe. And a year later, the trio vomited forth a most vulgar strain of black metal ejaculate with their SoM debut album ‘Rottng Incarnation of God.’
The band embarked on an extensive twelve-country European headline tour in the album’s wake. Shortly after returning home that winter, the world ground to a halt in 2020. Save a live-streaming concert production for the legendary Rock al Parque in conjuncton with BATUSHKA, little was heard from PROFANATICA.
That is until spring 2023, when PROFANATICA emerged from their den of iniquity on a European headline tour to promote a new album. ‘Crux Simplex’ is a ten-track offensive of sin and sacrilege, a nasty affront that bastardizes the first 10 stations of the cross. As per their legacy, PROFANATICA deals in bestial, first-wave black metal barbarity, and their eighth album unveils ungodly levels of bile and blasphemy.

PEARL JAM will release their twelfth studio album, Dark Matter, on Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records on April 19, 2024 and launch a 35-date worldwide tour this May. The album’s title track is available now HERE. Produced by multi-GRAMMY® award winning producer Andrew Watt, Dark Matter, marks the band’s first release since critically-acclaimed Gigaton (2020).
In 2023, the members of Pearl Jam—Eddie Vedder [vocals], Jeff Ament [bass], Stone Gossard [rhythm guitar], Mike McCready [lead guitar], and Matt Cameron [drums]—retreated to Shangri-La Studios in Malibu where they simply plugged in and played with producer Andrew Watt at the helm.
The musicians faced one another in the same space and communicated sonically at the highest level. Writing and recording in a burst of inspiration, Dark Matter was born in just three weeks.
As a result, Dark Matter channels the shared spirit of a group of lifelong creative confidants and brothers in one room playing as if their very lives depended on it. All of the blood, sweat, tears, and energy of a storied career felt renewed and poured into this one body of work.
Album Artwork: light painting art by Alexandr Gnezdilov
The band members personally previewed the record with a listening party at the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood during GRAMMY® week:
Vedder said: “I’m getting chills, because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
Ament added, “What Ed said about getting us in a room at this point, we felt like we were about to make a really important record. A lot of that had to do with the atmosphere Andrew set up. He has encyclopedic knowledge of our history, not only as a band and how we wrote songs, but as players. He could pinpoint things we did on old songs to the point where I was like, ‘What the fuck is he talking about?’ His excitement was contagious. He’s a force. I just want to say thanks for keeping us on track. I couldn’t be prouder of us as a band. I feel so grateful for the fans, but mostly for my brothers and these people I’ve made music with.”
The band is celebrating indie record stores with the release of a special edition of Dark Matter on April 20. Only at participating stores as part of Record Store Day. Get more information and find stores at www.recordstoreday.com
Dark Matter album packaging features light painting art by Alexandr Gnezdilov. Light painting is an artistic form of photography where images are created by adjusting a camera’s exposure for an extended period and using a light source, such as a flashlight, to “paint” in the dark. The album cover art was crafted using a large self-made kaleidoscope. Each letter visible on the cover was individually captured and handwritten midair with a specially designed flashlight to create the pearlescent effect. See more info on Alexandr Gnezdilov below.

The band’s lineup consists of bassist Jeff Ament, rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard, lead guitarist Mike McCready, lead singer/guitarist Eddie Vedder and drummer Matt Cameron. Thirty plus years of live performances, twelve studio albums and hundreds of official live concert bootleg releases later, Pearl Jam continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The band has sold over 85 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
Since the earliest days, Pearl Jam has used its platform to elevate people and causes that often go unnoticed or underserved. Much of the band’s philanthropic work is accomplished through its Vitalogy Foundation which to date has raised more than $50 million for organizations supporting issues such as abortion access, climate change and homelessness, and drawing attention to the fight against diseases such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis and epidermolysis bullosa (EB). In addition to the money Vitalogy donates, the band also donates signed instruments, posters and merchandise to organizations to use for their own fundraising purposes. Compounding the impact of Vitalogy Foundation, the band has supported Jeff Ament’s Montana Pool Service building skate parks in Montana and South Dakota. Pearl Jam also lends its voice to notable causes like the West Memphis 3, voting rights and fair ticketing practices. Over the past three decades, the band has a long history of standing up for what it believes in and putting its resources behind those beliefs.
Through its innovative Ten Club and fan engagement, community building, coveted poster designs, and longstanding activism and philanthropy, Pearl Jam continues to have a lasting impact on generations of music lovers.
About Andrew Watt The name Andrew Watt in recent years has become synonymous with one very true phrase: the music industry’s not-so-secret weapon. Since 2015, the multi-GRAMMY-winning and platinum-selling music producer has been a hit-making machine, having collaborated with some of the last decade’s most exciting, and ground-breaking artists, including including Justin Bieber, Ozzy Osbourne, Cardi B., Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Mick Jagger, Brandi Carlile, Paul McCartney, Smokey Robinson and Lady Gaga, to name a few.

The following year saw Watt produce the widely publicized and critically acclaimed Elton John and Britney Spears collaboration “Hold Me Closer,” the entirety of Eddie Vedder’s solo release Earthling, and Ozzy Osbourne’s GRAMMY Award winning Patient Number 9, which earned Watt his second GRAMMY win for “Best Metal Album” at the 65th GRAMMY Awards. 2023 was also a stellar year for Watt, kicking off the top of the year with the release of Iggy Pop’s long-awaited 19th studio album, Every Loser, released via an exclusive partnership between Atlantic Records and Watt’s own Gold Tooth Records. This past summer also saw a slew of high profile and record-breaking releases on which Watt is credited as co-writer and co-producer, including; The Kid LAROI’s single “Forever and Again” which was released as part of the Barbiemovie soundtrack, and Jungkook’s “Seven,” which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and amassed a record-breaking 217.1 million streams and 269,000 downloads in just its first week of release. Watt ended the year with the release of “Hackney Diamonds,” The Rolling Stones’ first album of original music in 18 years, which was fully produced by Watt. The album’s lead single “Angry” earned Watt a GRAMMY Nomination for “Best Rock Song” for his work co-writing and producing the track.

After 20 years of relative silence, last month, Brodequin returned with the announcement of their long-awaited fourth album. Today, the Brothers Bailey and their punishing new drummer are releasing the second torturous single off Harbinger of Woe.
There’s a reason why metalheads from every underground fiefdom recognize Brodequin as the most brutal band in all of death metal. After all, they did take their name from the most wicked torture device that any peasant has had the misfortune of receiving.
Brodequin’s whole discography is culled from the bloody annals of medieval history, but the source of inspiration behind their new single dates all the way back to ancient Persian history. “Basically, the victim, who’s held in a tower that’s specifically designed for this sort of thing, is immersed in ash”, explains Jamie Bailey, who honed his morbid curiosity for the Middle Ages as a college history student.
But don’t just take his word for it. “Suffocation in Ash” treats unsuspecting spectators to an unflinching account of this real life torture chamber. Mike Bailey churns the riff like a giant wooden wheel, condemning even the sorriest of sinners to a hail of ash. Fellow executioner Brennan Shackelford continues to reign down a merciless torrent of blast beats and pinging cymbals long after their prisoner has been brought begging to one shredded knee.
“Silence. Liar”, Jamie gurgles, as if echoing the guilty conscience inside their poor beaten skull.
“I sought to shed light on an execution method rooted in antiquity”, Jamie says about the concept behind “Suffocation in Ash”. “This specific technique often escapes the attention of those intrigued by these kinds of historical practices. Lyrically, my aim was to transport the listener into the vivid depiction of the scene I attempt to portray”.
“Among the myriad methods employed, a prominent example was the affixing of an individual to a pillar, or, more commonly, a tree trunk through the use of long iron nails”.
That’s Jamie Bailey, talking in true Brodequin fashion about the very first single from Harbinger of Woe.
“Of Pillars and Trees” is classic Brodequin. Mike’s riffs churn like severed limbs through a meat grinder. Brennan pings his cymbals with all the murderous intent of a spiked mace. Heck, the death growls are nasty enough to make you think that Jamie is sucking the blood of his enemies through a straw.

Tracklist 1. Diabolical Edict (3:29) 2. Fall Of The Leaf (2:33) 3. Theresiana (3:03) 4. Of Pillars and Trees (4:03) [WATCH] 5. Tenaillement (2:53) 6. Maleficium (3:09) 7. VII Nails (2:17) 8. Vredens Dag (3:20) 9. Suffocation in Ash (3:05) [LISTEN] 10. Harbinger of Woe (4:04)
After signing with Season of Mist in 2022, Brodequin re-issued their entire discography on LP and CD.
“Relentless, barbaric intensity” – John Gallagher (Dying Fetus), who named Instruments of Torture one of the most brutal albums ever.
“Kicks in like a sledgehammer” – Metal Rage raved over Methods of Execution
“A merciless massacre” – Power Metal praised Festival of Death.
German power metal masters, THORNBRIDGE, have announced their new studio album for a March 22ndrelease on Massacre Records. “Daydream Illusion” will be released as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats, the pre-sale is available at https://lnk.to/daydreamillusion
The concept album tells the story of a boy who tries to save his dream world and its characters from the destruction and violence he is confronted with in his real life in the form of questionable and inhumane healing methods’ and surgeries in a mental asylum set in the early Victorian era.
Following the previously-released, first single and album title track, today THORNBRIDGE are presenting a lyric video for their new single “My Last Desire”! THORNBRIDGE frontman Jörg “Mo” Naneder reveals about the song:
“The boy’s last wish is for the stories, which he has experienced in his dream world, to be passed on. This way, his fantasy creatures can live on in other people’s dreams and imaginations even if the boy himself completely loses his memories.
A special feature of this song is the almost constant melody in the verse.
This was also one of the first ideas for the new album. In addition to the simple chorus, the verse is also very catchy. So we have packed two catchy tunes into one song.“
In contrast to the two previous albums that were more on the heavy side, “Daydream Illusion” is a bit more melancholic and magical, which is also reflected in the vocals that are less aggressive and cleaner on this album. Special attention was paid to catchy melodies and lyrics, and for the first time a ballad made it onto an THORNBRIDGE album.
“Daydream Illusion” was mixed and mastered by Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann at Greenman Studios, with a cover artwork by Juanjo Castellano Rosado.
“Daydream Illusion” track listing:
Come on in!

Returning to the stage as an acoustic artist throughout this May and June, Toby Jepson is set to bring stories of a ‘lifer’ in the music business to a venue near you, along with a retrospective run through the songs that have made him an enduring character of the UK rock scene for over 35 years.
Applauded for his lockdown ‘Digital Busker’ Facebook shows, broadcast live and free from his kitchen throughout the pandemic, Toby will be bringing his legendary energy and along with partner in crime Dave Kemp in what promises to be a night not to be missed!
Born in Lincoln, raised in Yorkshire, Toby started his professional career in the rock band ‘Little Angels,’ formed in Scarborough in 1986. The band released three acclaimed albums on Polydor Records; the last one, ‘JAM,’ became a number one album in the UK album charts in 1993. The band enjoyed 10 top 40 hit singles in the UK, as well as chart success all over the world, and embarked on extensive touring as a headline act as well as opening for artists such as Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Marillion, Gun n Roses, Bryan Adams, and ZZ Top. The band bowed out in style at a sell-out concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1994.
Since 1995, Toby has toured as a solo artist as well as a singer for hire with bands Fastway, GUN, and Dio’s Disciples. His most recent musical adventure has been the rock band ‘Wayward Sons,’ who have released three critically acclaimed records through Frontiers Music and have toured with UFO, Steel Panther, Saxon, Living Colour, as well as headlining tours of their own. In 2022, the band opened the main stage at Download Festival and is set to play festivals in 2024.
Aside from being a successful writer/performer, Toby is a record producer, runs an independent film company, is a screenwriter, and a radio presenter on Planet Rock Radio.

COGNITIVE have shared the news of an upcoming headlining North American tour with support from Trenchlung!
The bone-shattering New Jersey death metal elites have been teasing fans with the news of an upcoming album since last year and today, alongside the tour announcement, they confirm that it is in fact ready, coming soon, and the details are just around the corner!
Stay glued to the MBR & COGNITIVE socials this spring for full album details to come…
On the upcoming tour, guitarist Rob Wharton comments: “At last! After finishing our tour cycle for our last release, we had taken some time off to record our new Metal Blade album, music videos, content, recharge our batteries, and now it’s time to hit the road again. We wanted to hit the road when our new single drops, so we figured we would make our way up to Canada for the special occasion and take our dissonant pals in Trenchlung out for a small run of shows. We will be playing 2 new songs off our upcoming record, so we figured it was time to get our feet wet again in preparation for the rest of the year’s tour plans. We hope to see you at a show, and keep your eyes and ears peeled for the new album announcement!!“
Last year, the band released the stand alone single ‘Rot Eternal‘ (check out the video here) and began teasing a new COGNITIVE album on the horizon, commenting at the time that: “Rot Eternal was the second song written for our upcoming album, and when we did our pre-production recording we kept coming back to the song and saying ‘man this is like, REALLY awesome.’ We hope you all enjoy this stand alone single, and keep an eye out for the new record next year!“
COGNITIVE‘s upcoming headlining North American tour will kick off on March 28th at The Mona Lisa in Brooklyn, NY and stop in Salem, MA before moving further north into Canada where the band will tour through Quebec and Ontario and close out with one last USA stop in Corning, NY on April 05th at Marconi Lounge. MORE ABOUT COGNITIVE: After releasing an EP and full length, COGNITIVE signed to Unique Leader Records in 2016 and released their album Deformity, which showed the bands dedication to their craft within a tale about their home states own legend about the Jersey Devil. Ramping up their tour schedule, the band continued to write and push themselves within the genre with technicality, speed, brutality, and songwriting, which came to shine through even more on the 2018 release Matricide, which displayed more focused effort while increasing speed and technicality even more. The band wasted no time in their touring schedule and hit the road supporting Fit for an Autopsy, Rivers of Nihil, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Vulvodynia, Lorna Shore and others, along with an appearance at Maryland Deathfest. COGNITIVE has become a touring machine with one goal in mind – always move forward.
With the release of their latest album Malevolent Thoughts of a Hastened Extinction (2022), the band has displayed more diversity and song writing more than ever and proves yet again they are never scared to explore new concepts musically and explore new territory.
