34 years since their latest album “Violent By Nature”, released in 1990, Tucson, Arizona-based thrash metal titans ATROPHY return with a brand new album! “Asylum” will be unleashed on March 15, 2024 via Massacre Records, the pre-sale is now available at https://lnk.to/atrophyasylum
“Asylum” marks the next evolutionary step for ATROPHY. Keeping the speed of “Socialized Hate” and the grooves of “Violent By Nature”, this album adds a big dose of heaviness to the mix resulting in a satisfying aural kick in your face! Today, the iconic band has premiered a lyric video for their first single, the album opening track “Punishment For All”, watch the clip now streaming here:
““Punishment For All” was inspired by the attempted insurrection on January 6 (2021) with Covid-19 restrictions still in play. To sit in my living room and watch this unfold was almost too much to bear.
Americans were at each other‘s throats, calling people traitors, or trying to undermine democracy and not believing in the results of the election, following the myriad conspiracy theories that were swirling around at the time.” Frontman Brian Zimmerman comments.
“I thought to myself what if they were successful? What are we, as a country divided, going to do then? Take down everything we have built together as a country? What are we putting in place? Are we just going to do whatever the loudest people tell us to do? The whole thing was just absolutely crazy.”
“Asylum” was produced, mixed and mastered by Alex Parra at Second Sight Studio. The album tracklist will read as follows:
Punishment For All
High Anxiety
Seeds Of Sorrow
Distortion
Bleeding Out
American Dream
Close My Eyes
The Apostle
Five Minutes ‘Til Suicide

March 1, 2024 will see Australian dark folk/blackgaze project SULDUSK herald the new year with the release of their much-awaited sophomore studio offering, entitled Anthesis, via Napalm Records. Following the release of the Melbourne-based act’s first single and album title track, today, SULDUSK are premiering a music video for their gripping new single, “Crystalline”!
Band mastermind Emily Highfield reveals:
“Crystalline is a sequel track to ‘Nazare’, which is on Lunar Falls, the first SULDUSK album.
Nature – its beauty and brutality – is definitely a powerful muse for SULDUSK‘s music, and both these tracks are an homage to the power and the solace of the Ocean. Coming from Australia, which is an isolated island, nature here is abundant and always a source of inspiration.”
Following their much acclaimed 2019 debut album, Lunar Falls – an album that stunned listeners and international press alike, Anthesis continues where SULDUSK left off with their transfixing first full-length, yet proves musically more complex. The album will take you into a gloomy, magical world where the up-and coming act combines a high variety of dark and extreme sounds within its very own sonic universe.
While SULDUSK started as a one-woman project founded by the highly talented Emily Highfield, for the upcoming album, she recruited incredibly talented musicians to help elevate the vision of their acoustic-based music to the level of an intense, powerful and heavy record. On Anthesis, SULDUSK shines with dark folk, blackgaze, post-rock, prog, doom and even black metal elements – flowing together to create one very unique synthesis of sound. Emily’s voice is a strong highlight, impressing with softness and fragility at times, and turning over to demonic screams in the very next moment! For the first time in SULDUSK’s young history, there are also male vocal harmonies contributed by Shane Mulholland.
Anthesis was produced and mixed by Troy Mccosker, and was mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Soilwork, Opeth, Katatonia). The album also features guest appearances of Raphael Weinroth-Browne (Leprous) and Rachelle Harvey on cello. With their second album, SULDUSK are more than ready to embark on another journey into the depths of primeval forests, where emotions are hidden under the thickets to reveal what’s not meant to be seen. The album is a stunning and enthralling masterpiece – highly recommended for fans of Myrkur, Oathbreaker and Chelsea Wolfe – and one that unconditionally needs to be seen, felt and heard!

In specialty item news, Distortion Inc. and Filter have partnered to introduce The Short Bus Pedal, to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the band’s debut release “Short Bus.”
“We’ve dug up all the original gear from my mom’s basement to make the pedal identical to the ‘Short Bus’ sound,” says Richard Patrick, founder and leader of Filter. “The result is uncanny. You better believe you’ll be ripping all your favorite ‘Short Bus’ tracks with this thing.”
The Short Bus Pedal is a limited-edition authentic piece of working gear that comes with a numbered certificate signed by Patrick, making it a true collector’s item. The pedal is available now on pre-order at filterpedal.com and starts shipping in late February.
The pedal is built to be used and abused: “This is a serious piece of gear made for the stage,” says Patrick, who has personally overseen the development. Patrick will be using the pedal on the upcoming European tour dates, and a stage played and signed version will be available for sale during and after the tour. Watch this space: filterpedal.com
In addition, after a successful run of limited-edition skateboards from Volatile Skateboards, Filter has re-teamed with the renegade skateboard company for a new board featuring the artwork from “The Algorithm.” Get it here: https://www.volatileskateboards.com/filter
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the band’s birth. In 1993, founder and lead vocalist Patrick placed an ad in Scene Magazine in Cleveland, OH, shortly after leaving Nine Inch Nails as their touring guitarist, looking to form a band that would eventually evolve into Filter.
The celebration of Filter’s anniversary began in late 2022 when Patrick was invited to join Nine Inch Nails for a special fan day Q&A at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The following night NIN mastermind Trent Reznor had Patrick and other former and current NIN band members join him for a special performance at the Blossom Center in Cleveland, OH, where the band was originally formed. The expanded NIN performed such staples as “Eraser,” “Wish,” “Sin,” “Gave Up,” “Head Like a Hole,” and a cover of Filter’s 1994 monster hit, “Hey Man Nice Shot.”
Filter followed that performance with the release of their first new single in over two years – “For the Beaten” which kicked off a new era. 2023 saw the much-anticipated release of a new Filter album “The Algorithm”. Singles “Face Down” and “Obliteration” both had innovative music videos which garnered attention from new and long-time fans alike.

Bay Areagoth-doom quartet BRUME have chosen the opening track ‘Jimmy’ from their forthcoming new full-length “Marten” as thefirst video single. The band’s third album is scheduled for release on May 3, 2024 via Magnetic Eye Records. The album pre-sale is now available at http://lnk.spkr.media/brume-marten
BRUME comment: “I wrote ‘Jimmy’ in the voice of an angry wife married to a middle aged rockstar who has emotionally retreated from fame, family and his former self”, singer and bass player Susie McMullan lets on. “We all fall in love with the same characteristics that eventually drive us nuts. I bet falling in love with a famous artist exacerbates that.”
BRUME (pronounced ‘Broom’) are living proof that California is not all sunshine and easy living. The San Francisco-based quartet organically blends doom metal, goth, and indie rock into a sometimes monolithic, sometimes delicate blend of heaviness that resides firmly on the darker side.
After a decade of sultry sounds and hair-raising crescendos, BRUME push sonic experimentation and delightful genre-bending even further on their third full-length “Marten”. The expansion into a four-piece with the addition of Jackie Perez Gratz on cello and vocals has opened a cosmos of new possibilities that the Californians determinedly explore. Weaving soaring melodies over melancholic doom pop generates songs that are equally intimate and haunting yet also massive and crushing.
BRUME originally formed as a trio in 2014 when guitarist Jamie McCathie from Bristol, England began making music with bass player and vocalist Susie McMullan from Baton Rouge, Louisiana after discovering a shared passion for both trip-hop and sludge. The addition of Jordan Perkins-Lewis on drums completed the line-up with his rich and experimental style of drumming, and set the stage for the band’s recordings.
The trio quickly gained momentum with their doom metal albums “Rooster” (2017) and “Rabbits” (2019), the former being named ‘Album of the Year’ by The Ripple Effect and the latter earning the top spot on Wonderbox Metal’s ‘Best of 2019’ list. BRUME also left their mark onstage, appearing at Desertfest London in 2017 and Desertfest New York and SXSW in 2019, along with many more shows on both sides of the Atlantic.
On third album “Marten”, BRUME perfectly balance the melancholic power of the cello with forceful vocals and dueling guitar conversations. The complex mood swings that seamlessly move from sensuous and restrained to soaring and explosive found a perfect producer in Sonny DiPerri (EMMA RUTH RUNDLE, LORD HURON, PORTUGAL THE MAN). With the right engineer behind the board, the San Franciscans adopted a songwriting approach that emphasised poetry and lyrics rather than starting with a riff. This way of working uncovered a more vulnerable side of the band.
With “Marten”, BRUME take a bold step toward their musical future by challenging first themselves and now listeners to move from comfortable spaces toward more challenging, less familiar destinations.
Mighty Music are proud to announce the release of a live album by the TYGERS OF PAN TANG, to be called “Live Blood”. Stalwarts of the NWOBHM, the Tygers are currently celebrating eight years with Mighty Music during which time they have released three well received new albums, the most recent of which “Bloodlines”, was met with universal critical acclaim in 2023.
