Fasten your seatbelts, as German modern metalcore upstarts SETYØURSAILS aren’t slowing down in 2024. After taking over stages at festivals like Summer Breeze and Full Force in 2023, the quartet is now set to drop their second studio album, Bad Blood, scheduled for release on April 12, 2024 via Napalm Records.
Jumping right into the pit with hard-hitting first single “Bad Blood”, SETYØURSAILS teams up with Zebrahead vocalist Adrian Estrella and showcases no mercy as modern electronic melodies and energetic screams build up to a top-notch breakdown. This new single and official music video follows the Cologne-based outfit’s recent announcement of their German co-headline tour alongside Rising Insane, kicking off in Leipzig, Germany on April 12. Tickets are on sale now, so get them while they last and experience the band’s unlimited live energy!
Vocalist Jules Mitch on “Bad Blood”: “This song is a personal reckoning that was more than easy for me to write. It reminds me that I’m stronger and more mature than my haters will ever be. You often get motivation from people who want to see you down. I hope they keep it up, I’m not done yet.”
Adrian Estrella of Zebrahead adds: “‘Bad Blood’! The punch in the face you need when taken advantage of, this song has brutally beautiful verses with melodic, truthful choruses. I’m very happy to be a part of this masterpiece with SETYØURSAILS!”
After successfully dropping their acclaimed debut album, Nightfall, in 2022, German Metal Hammer dubbed SETYØURSAILS as one of the scene’s best newcomers. The unit, composed of Jules Mitch, André Alves, Henrik Kellershohn and Nicolai Hoch, followed with extensive touring with Annisokay, Emil Bulls, Cypecore and Lord Of The Lost. On this intense new offering, SETYØURSAILS unleashes a mixture of highly infectious tracks and relentless, electrifying atmospheres.
Jules Mitchsays aboutBad Blood: “With our new album Bad Blood, we are ushering in a new era in our band’s history. This album is louder, more aggressive and more honest than anything we’ve ever done before. It is another step towards self-discovery and healing. It covers various topics such as betrayal, mental health, but also sex and a lot of complex emotions. Topics we have never addressed before. We are ready for a change, for a new chapter. A new opportunity for further development.”
Bad Blood kicks off with the charged-up banger “Bad Blood”, followed by the former standalone single “Best Of Me”, which was released alongside an official music video. The track represents the new chapter of the unit, pushing the boundaries of different genres while vocalist Jules Mitch skillfully unites both beautifully melodic and fiercely heavy passages. Created to play on repeat, the highly-infectious song “Bad Company” is dominated by smashing electronic beats combined with brutally melodic guitar lines and highlighted by a ground shaking breakdown. With tracks like “Lately” and “Heart Attack”, SETYØURSAILS lyrically shares their softer side by addressing personal conflicts and mental health concerns, and wraps the songs in a strikingly melodic atmosphere.
Prepare for a sonic onslaught as these German metalcore sensations gear up to unleash their second studio album, Bad Blood – promising a fierce and intense masterclass in modern metalcore.

Catapulted into another era by finding the Japanese doll, Daruma, protagonist Viktor wakes up in a magical village called Hermitage, exploring its secrets track by track. Getting into a fight between the siblings Anningan and Irin, only Viktor’s destiny is the key to their conflict. “Welcome To Hermitage” presents the magical world of Hermitage with fairytale-like flutes, twinkling chime elements, and the vocal arrangements of singers Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie, Illumishade) and Laura Fella (Faun). “No Return” glances with the band’s characteristic sing-along refrain and operatic fragments while the track “Join Me” ranges from marvelous vocal harmonies to grand compositions. The spellbinding “Darkness Is Just a Drawing’” and uplifting “Full Of Memories” gather the atmosphere of Hermitage – Daruma’s Eyes Pt. 2 once again, before “Cliff” closes the album with rising melodies, epic orchestration arrangements, and inimitable vocal spotlights. The concept album was produced by TEMPERANCE guitarist and singer Marco Pastorino and mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (Luca Turilli, Michael Romeo, Twilight Force) at Domination Studio in San Marino. Come explore Viktor’s legacy!
North Sea Echoes, the new band featuring Fates Warning members Ray Alder and Jim Matheos, have dropped a new single from their upcoming studio debut. Fresh off the release of “Open Book“, the band is happy to share the song “Unmoved“, along with a stirring music video featuring both Alder and Matheos. It’s the second single off the duo’s debut full-length, ‘Really Good Terrible Things’, which will see a February 23rd release via Metal Blade.
Speaking on the lyrical concepts behind “Unmoved“, Ray Alder shares, “Some people dealing with depression often exhibit a remarkable ability to conceal their inner struggles by presenting a facade of happiness to the world.”
‘Really Good Terrible Things‘ (Tracklist) 01. Open Book 02. Flowers in Decay 03. Unmoved 04. Throwing Stones 05. Empty 06. The Mission 07. Where I’m From 08. We Move Around the Sun 09. Touch the Sky 10. No Maps
Ray Alder and Jim Matheos’ musical legacy is vast and lauded, both as collaborators and individuals. Alder has been the vocalist and main co-writer for prog metal heroes Fates Warning for the past 35 years. With them, he has recorded 10 albums between 1988 (No Exit) and 2020 (Long Day Good Night). Further rounding out his discography are seven albums with Redemption, two solo albums, and the band A-Z with Mark Zonder, which debuted in 2022.
Prolific and pioneering guitarist/producer Matheos is a co-founder of Fates Warning, the lineup debuting with 1984’s Night on Bröcken on Metal Blade. In addition to 13 albums with Fates, Matheos’ myriad other work includes several solo albums, four albums alongside former Dream Theater keyboardist Kevin Moore, under the name OSI, and new band, Kings of Mercia, a lineup that’s been termed “a hybrid; it’s heavy, but not metal.”
“Throughout Really Good Terrible Things, Matheos and Alder serve up the kind of seductive melancholy Fates Warning fans will recognize,” says Jeff Wagner, author of the Fates Warning book Destination Onward. “Yet there’s a thoroughly different approach here: vocals are delivered with a sort of nostalgic sadness, and the guitar work is layered in such a way as to feel dreamlike. These are rich sonic landscapes, visiting places haunting, beautiful, spectral and secret. The Matheos/Alder partnership is taken to some new and wonderful places here,” Wagner concludes.
Really Good Terrible Things shows the breadth and versatility of the acclaimed pair, along with a freshness that belies their long musical partnership. “We both still love making music and we really enjoy working together. There’s a good amount of chemistry there, I think,” Matheos shares. “We both know what to expect from each other.“

Faroe Islands-based death/doom outfit HAMFERÐ will release their Men Guðs hond er sterk full-length March 22nd on Metal Blade Records.
When this magisterial sextet’s third album Támsins likam emerged in 2018 – ten years after they first entered a rehearsal space – the highly acclaimed and powerfully emotive opus thrust the mourning-suited band onto the world stage. Five years on, the accumulation of plentiful live experience and interpersonal chemistry has had a profound impact on HAMFERБs extraordinary fourth LP, Men Guðs hond er sterk, feeding into the artisanal sonic vision of guitarist and producer, Theodor Kapnas.
Concertedly eschewing all the quick-fix trickery of modern recording technology, the band recorded the songs playing all together live in the studio, without a click-track. The result is a resoundingly human album that heaves, swoops, and shifts in elemental style – from passages of glacial post-metallic beauty through sorrowful folky goth cadences, via icy blackened blastbeats to shuddering vistas of extreme doom mastery – with a crackling tight-but-loose interplay recalling the giants of yesteryear.
The narrative concept behind Men Guðs hond er sterk is inspired by a harrowing local event: the 1915 whaling disaster off the Faroe Island village of Sandvik (home of HAMFERÐ keyboardist Esmar Joensen), when fourteen men died driving whales ashore in the stormy bay. The village population witnessed the tragedy from the seaside.
Fittingly, the sad tale has enabled HAMFERÐ to powerfully bring to life the meaning behind their Faroese name, zeroing in on the traumatic emotional force behind this supernatural phenomenon. “When you see someone in hamferð, you see their apparition,” Kapnas explains. “Mostly it’s wives with husbands at sea, who’ve seen them dripping wet in the doorframe in the middle of the night. Typically, in folklore it’s a warning that something bad will happen, and there are several documented episodes of this happening in Sandvik in 1915. So it’s kind of full circle for us.”
As a precursor to the release of Men Guðs hond er sterk, the band today delivers a video for first single and opening track, “Ábær.” Offers Kapnas, “‘Ábær’ is about sailing through a hurricane, through ocean valleys, in a rowing boat and surviving it. The waves crashing, the wind and rain beating and biting you, death greeting you everywhere you look. Perseverance, melancholy, dread, willpower, endurance and doubt interweave with every note and word.”
Malevolence are set to shut down cities across the UK, starting tomorrow with a full-on, 11-date club tour, featuring New York’s Pain Of Truth and MLVLTD’s finest Rough Justice. The run is now almost completely sold out, with the Liverpool venue recently upgraded due to high demand.
In celebration, the UK’s reigning champs of heavy metal present a special memento from their sold-out UK tour dates last November. Malevolence have released an intoxicating live performance video of ‘Higher Place‘ featuring Espera of Sleep Token, from their monumental show at The Forum, London. The performance reimagines one of Malevolence’s more emotionally charged songs from their current album Malicious Intent.
Watch ‘Higher Place‘ feat. Espera of Sleep Token (Live At The Forum, London 2023):
Malevolence vocalist Alex Taylor commented:
“We always relish the opportunity to do something special and different, so it was a privilege to have the Espera girls join us on stage for ‘Higher Place’ at our biggest ever headline show. The idea spawned when the group tagged us in a reel of themselves singing ‘Higher Place’ on Instagram – we immediately knew that we had to do it live together. We can’t thank them enough for coming down and being part of something so special in Malevolence history!”
After completely selling out their UK headline tour in November of last year and blowing away audiences at the likes of Download and Bloodstock Festival UK,throughout Trivium‘s recent UK/European tour, some Lamb Of God European shows, a USA run with Jinjier and POD, and at Knotfest Australia, the British bruisers are pumped for more live action and have a big 2024 in the works.
‘Malicious Intent‘was recorded at Tree House Studios, UK. The record was produced by Jim Pinder and co-mixed by Jim Pinder and Carl Bown. The’Malicious Intent‘artwork was created by renowned artist Eliran Kantor.
