PONTE DEL DIAVOLO Release New Single + Visualizer ‘Nocturnal Veil’

Ponte Del Diavolo are blessed with a taste for the dark arts. These Italians weld doom and black metal into a sleek but towering force that’s just as cruel as the infamously steep bridge that medieval peasants has to cross on the way to their home country.

The band teased then danced with the devil on their previous twosingles. Today, they’re pulling back the curtain on the more depraved part of their aesthetic.

Watch the bloody and burbling visualizer for “Nocturnal Veil”, which was created by Daniele Brancaccio:

Fire Blades From The Tomb is out February 16, 2024.

“Nocturnal Veil” billows with gloomy clarinet. But the band’s new single really shows off their bad side. Cymbals clank like chains through a pitch-black dungeon, while the riffs crack with the patient speed of a whip or the pointed finger of a siren.

“Everything is nothing”, Erba Del Diavolo chants, calling you into the void. Her croon is bewitching, beguiling and all-too-inviting.

“Let yourself be carried away by a dark mantra that brings with it images of annihilation”, says Ponte Del Diavolo. “Immensity overwhelms us, we are null”.

Early praise for Ponte Del Diavolo

“
A rhythm section that sounds like thundering hooves; music that dangerously rings and swirls, like fleeing from something fatal” – No Clean Singing

“What strikes me most about the album is the sheer genre bending ability of this band. One minute, you think that you are listening to Doom Metal, and then turn the screw and another sound materializes” – Metal Temple

PONTE DEL DIAVOLO bridges the gap between two separate worlds.

The Italian band proposes a Doom / Black metal sound with old-school roots, adding a modern and outside the box background. The female voice – with strong dark wave influences – is the lyric corpus of this strongly esoteric project. The solid presence of two bassists creates the massive foundation for the rhythmic guitar, everything marked by a raw and dynamic drumming.

Mystery of Mystery / Secret Live Session marked the quintet’s debut EP. It was recorded live and without editing at Dracma Studio with the producer L’Ossario in their home base of Turin in March 2020. “I” was released on the web by Iopan Records. It was soon followed by their second single, “The Wickedest Woman In the World”.

At the end of 2021, Ponte Del Diavolo recorded their second EP, Sancta Menstruis at Deepest Sea Studio in Turin with Danilo Battocchio. The first single,  “The Unborn”, arrived in February 2022.

The band’s third EP, Ave Scintilla!, was also recorded in Turin. This time around, they reconvened at Dracma Studio with L’Ossario.

Now that they’ve signed with Season of Mist, Ponte Del Diavolo are ready to release their debut album. Fire Blades From the Tomb  forges classic, cultish doom metal with modern bents of post-punk. Lead single and opening track “Demone” is whipped along by a boiled black bass line and dark-wave induced vocals.

Prepare to cross over into the Italian dark arts.

“No, he has not reached out. “

When asked if David Ellefson missed being in Megadeth
“Of Course it’s my band too. I helped start it. But let me be clear, there are things about it that of course I miss. The fans, the performances, the show and I enjoyed the touring, I’m a road warrior. But you know Megadeth was not always a big gig. We started where everybody else started, small gigs. I’ve known it from the bottom to the top and everything in between. But honestly as tides turn, things go, I’m super happy and very content with everything I am doing now. I say I make music I like, with people I like. For me at this age, I got the Grammy and I’m good.”

When asked about the upcoming  former drummer of Megadeth Nick Menza documentary
“It’s call this was my life, the story of Nick Menza. We are hoping for a summer release. Right now, literally we are shopping the distribution for it. It’s the story of Nick. Ten years of that is Megadeth, that is the fireworks that is the big attention getter. But Nick has such a great story growing up in a very musical household. Also Nick is a real character he is a lovable likeable guy and when you see the movie it feels like Nick is sitting right next to you watching it.”

Andorran extreme prog metal unit PERSEFONE is starting off strong in 2024. Today, their captivating, hard-hitting new single, “The Equable”, has been released alongside an immersive official music video, which is a video art created by Gràfica de Ferro, a design and art company of guitar player Filip and his partner. This comes just before the band sets off on their very first European headline tour, beginning in Henglo on February 10, 2024, and the release of their brand new EP, Lingua Ignota: Part I, this Friday, February 2, 2024 via Napalm Records.

The EP kicks off a new era for PERSEFONE, as Lingua Ignota: Part I is the first release with the band’s new vocalist, Daniel Rodríguez Flys, who had already joined the band on several tours in the past. Furthermore, the band recently announced another huge career highlight: an exclusive orchestra show in their home base of Andorra on May 4, 2024, which will be recorded and is already sold out based on high demand.

Acclaimed in the global metal scene, PERSEFONE has previously taken over live stages at huge festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Brutal Assault and 70,000 Tons of Metal, and has toured with many acknowledged artists, such as Obscura and Ne Obliviscaris on their 2023 European tour. They also toured South America as headliners and their European headline tour is set for February 2024. Beyond this, with their stunning 2022 record, metanoia, the band even graced the cover of Metal Hammer Magazine (ES). Stay tuned while PERSEFONE continues their success story!

Guitarist CarlosLozano comments:
“Writing music for Lingua Ignota Pt. I has been a journey by itself. We ask ourselves all the time how to explore different ways to make our sound fresh, how to avoid old patterns and mannerisms, and often, this leads to endless layers of rhythmic and harmonic complexity added to the songs. By the time we had to approach ‘The Equable’, we noticed that the bravery wasn’t about going crazy with our own skills, since we’ve already done that in the past… but it was about stripping the song of all that made us comfortable.

‘The Equable’ is as honest and simple as we have been able to do it. By the time the song was ready, we were both in love and scared about it, and we think that this is the right way to feel in order to reach new places.

We hope you find joy in these notes.”

Technical proficiency and modern progressive metal elements drenched in melodic death metal influences are at the core of PERSEFONE’s sound, and the outfit’s new vocalist, Daniel Rodríguez Flys, brings a fresh edge to his first record with the band. As successor to the stunning 2022 release, metanoia, PERSEFONE expand on Lingua Ignota: Part I – their collaboration with the renowned David Castillo – who produced, recorded and mixed the new album at Studio Gröndahl in Stockholm, Sweden. Castillo is well-known for his phenomenal work with genre giants such as Opeth, Dark Tranquillity and Leprous, as well as label mates Katatonia and Candlemass.

Creeping in with a hauntingly beautiful intro, keyboards and electronic influences build up the atmosphere on the opening track “Sounds And Vessels” before screams lead into a brutal breakdown. Following the shockingly abrupt ending, the breathtaking second track “One Word” kicks right off with pounding drums, screams and growls before introducing a catchy, melodic chorus. Church bells ring for “The Equable”, and the listener is carried away by irresistible heavy riffs leading to a massive chorus. Starting with surprisingly delicate guitar melodies and chanting vocals, the beautiful title track “Lingua Ignota” impresses with skilled instrumentation and exceptionally rich soundscapes. Cinematic closing track “Abyssal Communication” wraps up Lingua Ignota: Part I.
PERSEFONE’s new offering convinces with top-tier songwriting that keeps the listener captivated through the album, showcasing impressive variety in soundscapes, and once again proves that this band can’t be pigeonholed.

Exlusive Premiere for Finland: VANIR ‘Fall Of Arkona’ Lyric Video

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 1, 2024

As we get closer to the release of  VANIR’s new opus, the Danes release a new lyric video and digital single to tease the album. And once again they dive deep in Scandinavian history, in “Fall Of Arkona”.

The siege of Arkona was a short eight-day siege between the Danish and Pommeranian forces under Valdemar I and the Wendish forces of the temple fortress of Arkona. It resulted in a decisive victory for the Danish forces, after which the rest of Rügen surrendered. After the battle, the Danes destroyed the large statue of the Wendish God Svantevit.

Join the premiering below:

Vanir is one of Denmark’s most prominent melodic death metal bands and has, since the band’s inception, released six full-length albums. And now, they’re ready to unleash their seventh beast, titled “Epitome”.

The theme of this new opus is the Danish middle-ages, with two songs branching into the Renaissance (“Wood Iron And Will” and the early middle-age “Blood Eagle”). The core of the album’s theme is the throne and the battles fought to keep it or to cement its power.

The first single of the album, “Twisting The Knife”, was written about The Stockholm Bloodbath, which was a trial that led to a series of executions in Stockholm between 7 and 9 November 1520. The siege of Arkona in 1169, led by the Danish and Pommeranian forces under Valdemar I is the beginning point for “Fall of Arkona”. Finally, a song about strength, valour and courage (“One Man Army”) completes the singles trilogy of the record.

The “Epitome” album cover is a depiction of the Danish queen Sorte Grethe (Black Greta). In her own time, Margaret had a reputation as a competent and enlightened regent. Regent Margaret was faced with the unresolved conflict between the crown and the archbishop. The song “Sorte Grethe”, on the album, is about a bloody battle where 12.000 men were killed to protect her sons’ right to the crown.

Vanir has been around for more than 10 years and has evolved a lot since the band’s beginning. With the last three records, and now with “Epitome”, Vanir shows its hard edge and catchy melodic death metal.

From the Sagas of old to the halls of kings and the bloody battlefields, Vanir’s music has been put together, without compromise, with a fascination with Scandinavian common origins, and the blood spilled throughout history.

“Epitome” will be released on CD, LP (black vinyl, limited to 300) and digital formats via Mighty Music on February 16th, 2024.

JOB FOR A COWBOY Unleash ‘Beyond the Chemical Doorway’ Video + Single

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 31, 2024

Experimental death metallers JOB FOR A COWBOY are pleased to unleash “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” the latest single from their long-awaited new full-length, Moon Healer, set for release on February 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The release marks the iconic outfit’s first new full-length in a decade!

Moon Healer is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band’s critically adored, 2014-released Sun Eater full-length, Moon Healer is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where Sun Eater left off.

Watch the band’s previously released videos for “The Agony Seeping Storm” HERE and “The Forever Rot” HERE.

Compared to past offerings, Moon Healer is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it’s more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. “The evolution of our sound has become a big part of the band,” Davy says. “As we mature as musicians, our tastes and interests naturally expand. With age comes more experience and ideas that we wouldn’t have considered in our earlier years.“

When discussing the lyrical genesis of songs “Grinding Wheels Of Ophanim,” “Into The Crystalline Crypts,” and latest single, “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” Davy’s writing gets cryptic and elliptical-sounding, part Philip K. Dick, part Timothy Leary. “I envision this as a death metal album born from the mystical confines of an alchemist’s laboratory. The music acts as potent potions, inducing hallucinogenic journeys that unlock the secrets of the universe.”

With “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” Davy explores Gnosticism — an occult teaching based on Gnosis, a state of transcendence achieved through intuitive, unconventional means — by way of Hieronymus Bosch’s art. Elaborates Davy, “On Moon Healer, we unravel the dismal narrative of a close friend consumed by an unwavering pursuit of enlightenment. They achieve this through a compulsive embrace of hallucinogenic drugs. This storyline emerges from the foundation set in our earlier album, Sun Eater, delving deeper into the intricacies brewing within our friend’s psyche.

“When under the influence of these drugs,” he continues, “this individual claimed to encounter entities and find themselves in indescribable worlds that defy rational comprehension. Many who undergo such experiences draw intriguing parallels between diverse facets of Gnostic philosophy, biblical depictions of angels, and the stages of Bardo Thodol delineated in the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. In the album’s opener, ‘Beyond The Chemical Doorway,’ our friend vividly voices his hallucinations, recounting the experience of breaching forbidden, gnostic-like realms, with each account culminating in the utter unraveling of his being.”

Moon Healer was produced by Jason Suecof (Death Angel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide) at his Audiohammer Studios and is the first JOB FOR A COWBOY album to feature session drummer Navene Koperweis (ex-Animosity). Davy previously worked with Koperweis in the progressive death metal side project Fleshwrought, which released Dementia/Dyslexia through Metal Blade in 2010. Koperweis also worked as a session drummer for Machine Head and Whitechapel and is currently in the band Entheos, whose third full-length came out on Metal Blade in March 2023.
