Blues-rock icon Walter Trout is exploding into 2024 with a new album, heavy touring and today he reveals the new video for Brokenfeaturing powerhouse singer Beth Hart. You can watch the videoHERE. The song is taken from new album, Broken, which will be released on 1 March via Provogue / Mascot Label Group and features appearances from Hart, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider and Harmonica virtuoso Will Wilde. You can order the album HERE.
He has started the year in an incredible way by hitting the road, as harder than ever. Today he begins a seven date tour of Australia, before a run of ten dates in the USA in March. He then flies to Europe to continue the tour as it runs through Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Czechia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and The Netherlands through April and May and then to the UK in October. Talking about the tour he says, “Music is my escape from everything that’s broken in our world. Come out and rock away your blues with my band and me.” Tickets are available from www.waltertrout.com
A few collaborators joined Trout for the first time. “I thought my friend Beth Hart could relate to the title track, Broken,” he says of the warrior princess whose fiery vocals coil with his own. “With that song, I was looking at the world – especially what’s going on in the United States – but also thinking about my recovery from the things that happened to me. I had the first verse – ‘Pieces of me seem to break away/I lose a little more every day’. But it was almost too much for me to go back into that shit. So my wife, Marie, was able to help me with the lyrics – and she nailed it. The guitar solo, that’s maybe my favourite on the record. I tracked it with the band, one take. I wanted to see if I could beat it – but they wouldn’t let me!”
All of us are broken. But no one is beyond repair. It’s a philosophy that Walter Trout has lived by during seven volatile decades at the heart of America’s society and blues-rock scene. Even now, with the world more fractured than ever – by politics, economics, social media and culture wars – the fabled US bluesman’s latest album, Broken, chronicles the bitter schisms of modern life but refuses to succumb to them. He recently released the first taster from the album, Bleed, featuring Will Wilde.
“I’ve always tried to write positive songs, and this album is not quite that,” considers the 72-year-old of an all-original tracklisting that rages and soothes. “But I always hold on to hope. I think that’s why I wrote this album.”
For the last half-century, however rocky his path, hope and resilience has always lit the way. The beat of Trout’s unbelievable story are well-known: the traumatic childhood in Ocean City, New Jersey; the audacious move to the West Coast in ’74; the auspicious but chaotic sideman shifts with John Lee Hooker and Big Mama Thornton; the raging addictions that somehow never stopped the boogie when he was with Canned Heat in the early-’80s.
Even now, some will point to Trout’s mid-’80s guitar pyrotechnics in the lineup of John Mayall’s legendary Bluesbreakers as his career high point. But for a far greater majority of fans, the blood, heart and soul of his solo career since 1989 is the main event, the bluesman’s songcraft always reaching for some greater truth, forever surging forward, never shrinking back.
It’s a peerless creative streak underlined by the guitarist’s regular triumphs at ceremonies, including the Blues Music Awards, SENA European Guitar Awards, British Blues Awards and Blues Blast Music Awards. The iconic British DJ ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris spoke for millions when he declared Trout “the world’s greatest rock guitarist” in his 2001 autobiography, The Whispering Years.
The album was recorded at Kingsize Soundlabs in LA with producer Eric Corne. “This is our 15th album together,” says the bluesman. “Eric and I just have a way of working, man. A friend who came into the studio and watched us and said, ‘Man, you guys are like a machine’. It’s unspoken.”
With gallows humour, Trout notes that his new album opens with a track called Broken and ends with one called Falls Apart. He can’t deny the link between the personal and the socio-political mood in the air, and as such, between those two bookends lie some of the most raw and bruised songs of his career. Still hope leads the way with the notion that music can help us overcome brokenness – one note at a time.

WHITECHAPEL‘s new live album, Live In The Valley, is out today and available across all digital platforms on Metal Blade Records.
Live In The Valley was captured live at the band’s seventh annual Christmas Benefit Show on December 22nd, 2022 at The Mill & Mine in their hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee and features songs from the albums The Valley and Kin. The audio for Live In The Valley was recorded, engineered, mixed and mastered by WHITECHAPEL guitarist Zach Householder and serves as a chapter closer before the band begins work on their ninth studio album.
Watch the previously released live video for “Lost Boy” at THIS LOCATION.

At this stage in the game, the name Whitechapel commands respect. Already sitting on one of the most enviable catalogs in contemporary metal, in 2019 they dropped The Valley, showcasing a confident evolution in their sound and standing as a true landmark release that sets a new standard for the genre. “To me, it was like the stars aligning for us to create our almost perfect record in regard to songwriting, vocal performance, the mix and master, and the artwork,” says guitarist Alex Wade. “We like to look at our albums as chapters of our career, and that is one chapter I will never forget. I think it really solidified that we can embrace a new sound, and if we execute it properly, then the fanbase is going to support and enjoy it.” In 2021, they return with that album’s successor, the mighty Kin, which is an even more dynamic and diverse collection, further advancing the band’s sound into new territory without losing sight of what brought them to this point.
“I feel with every album, we learn what worked best on the last one and try to utilize that in our writing. Early in the writing, there was some discussion of the album being like ‘The Valley’ part II, not literally called that, but in how the songs sound and flow through it. It’s very much a storytelling type record like ‘The Valley’ was,” adds vocalist Phil Bozeman, “Musically, we just want to create what we vibe with at the given moment. We write music with how we feel and not what is expected of us, while lyrically the idea of continuing from the story of ‘The Valley’ was always the goal.”
“For a generation of fans, WHITECHAPEL are the most legitimately brutal band of the deathcore movement.” – Kerrang!
“… one of the more unique metal bands still making music today.” – Metal Injection
“Phil Bozeman… commanded the stage and seemed to tower over the audience as he walked across the monitors…The band’s ability to combine powerful music with fun and energetic stage presence made for an unforgettable night of metal music.” – Pop Break
“Their performance… was superb and felt so nostalgic. As a Knoxville native, I have been a WHITECHAPEL fan for longer than I can remember and to see these guys evolve over the last fifteen years has been incredible to witness. Their humble demeanor and professionalism shine on and off the stage.” – Keynote Music Collective

All was mixed and mastered by Sebastian Has at Santa Studio (Behemoth, Obscure Sphinx). Cover art was done by vocalist Adrian Meissner & Michal “Xaay” Loranc (God Dethroned, Kamelot, Nile). Band photo by Aleksandra „Kosa” Majak.
Pavulon comments: “Through Darkness Towards Enlightenment is a commentary on how I perceive the surrounding reality and is inspired by everything that I encountered throughout the years. It is a form of releasing the pressure and frustration growing within for many years, a form of catharsis, a sort of therapy – coming to terms with my demons and finding the strength to pursue my goals against all odds.“
Debut album will be released March 8, 2023 digitally and on CD by Polish well known label Selfmadegod Records. Pre-order will be launched at the beginning of February in label’s webstore.
On the day of the album’s release, the Shadohm will go on Czarna Pascha 2024 tour with the Batushka as a direct support: Dates as follows:
1. Through Darkness 2. Blurred 3. Fair Weather Friend 4. Ripped Apart 5. Towards Enlightenment
Line-up:
Adrian “Klama” Meissner (Batushka, It Follows) – vocal Paweł “Pavulon” Jaroszewicz (Batushka, Antigama) – drums Rafał “Tarlachan” Łyszczarz (Batushka, Hore) – guitars, vocal Błażej Kasprzak (Batushka) – bass Jakub “Szatan” Śliwowski (Batushka, Hore) – guitars
One of the distinguishing features of Shadohm is undeniably our custom guitars, built to order by our friend Kriz Ramirez from Mexico, at his company – K. Ramirez Guitars. Due to our preference for tuning low (even very low), we knew that Kriz would be the right person to make them, considering his years of experience as a luthier and as a musician.
We opted for a shape that is a variation of the Iceman model produced by Ibanez. All three guitars are 9-string “Spitfire” models, equipped with custom-made Fishman Fluence pickups. The bridge was built from scratch specifically for us by Kriz’s team based on the Hipshot bridge because they don’t manufacture bridges for nine-string multiscale guitars as a standard. The scale is 30” for the lowest string and 28” for the highest, making them an ideal combination for comfort (it makes catching various peculiar chords a bit easier) and also allowing all tones, even the lowest ones, to resonate without detuning. We chose this setup because we tune down to F# on the thickest string (an octave lower than the classical F# on an eight-string guitar), and the conventional solutions available on the market were insufficient.
As for the wood selection, following Kriz’s advice, we settled on flamed maple, while the fretboard itself is made of exotic Granadillo wood, which performs excellently in low tunings.
We aimed for an original look. All three guitars are in a beige shade, we swapped the classic potentiometers for knobs, and the logo on the 12th fret and the lumin laye shimmer in blue under UV light – associations with Dune are entirely accurate. You can see the details in the photos, and already in March, during the upcoming “Black Pasha” tour, you will be able to hear and see live how these instruments present themselves in all their splendor.
