Finnish melodic death metal band Beyond The Hate is set to release an anticipated debut album Darkest Times on March 8th 2024 via Inverse Records. The third single Black Within is released today with a lyric video. This track features Katri Hiovain-Asikainen from the Numento.

“Black Within is one of the last songs written for the album. The process of writing it was quite easy, I wrote it in one day. Sometimes it’s easy to write a song when you have a clear vision and you don’t have to spend weeks or months on it. The song is one of the most atmospheric on the album, even a bit “ballad-like”. Already during the composition phase I knew that I had to have a female vocalist for this song and I had a clear candidate right away; Katri Hiovain-Asikainen from the Numento band. Luckily, Katri agreed immediately, because her beautiful voice took the song to another level.

The story of the song is written by our singer Niko. He wrote the lyrics for his own parts of the song and I wrote Katri’s. So far it’s the only song in the band with more than one lyricist. I think we managed to create a good story. The song is beautiful, but the lyrics are dark. It creates a good contrast to the song,” says Jyrki Karhu, the band’s guitarist and the song’s composer/songwriter, about the process of creating the song.”

“I was lost for a long time with the lyrics of this song, I had the verses and the chorus ready which I sing myself, but I didn’t really know what the acoustic parts would be. Fortunately, Jyrki stepped in at this point and wrote the missing lyrics, respecting the original idea. Katri then did a really great arrangement and a brilliant vocal performance, elevating this song to the level where it had to be made into one of three singles.” says vocalist Niko Kalinainen

LUCIFER’s Johanna Sadonis Reflects on Band’s Controversial Name

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 18, 2024

The Metal Voice recently spoke to Lucifer frontwoman Johanna Sadonis about the bands up and coming studio album, ‘Lucifer 5’ that will be released Jan 26, 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Sadonis also spoke about her early years relations with Rammstein and the band Ghost. Plus Sadonis reflects on the bands controversial name.

When asked about making the band appealing to the mainstream
“I don’t want to. I don’t want to change our sound. Of course I could go to invest and get a really fancy modern producer to give us this like sleek modern rock sound that all the bands have. We could do that and maybe it would make us more radio friendly or something. We could write the songs to be more accessible for the mainstream but we don’t want to because we like what we do and maybe this means we are doomed to remain in the underground. But what I can say is that we have a very loyal following and so far the band is growing. It’s growing slow but steady and from album to album the curve never goes down, we always sell every album a little bit more records than on the last one. And I see it when we tour the audience grows and we have fans that are really true fans. It’s not like a hype thing that happens quick and then it vanishes. I think it gives me the feeling that Lucifer might be here to stay.”

When asked about describing the musical direction of the new album
“I would say it has all the ingredients that a Lucifer album has always had. Hard Rock, a little bit of New Wave of British heavy Metal from the 70’s-80’s. You have doom in there, you have some sort of Pop sensibility but more in an old school sense as in very subtle way. We do listen to a lot of Soul music as well and all these things flow into us and get pushed out into a Lucifer album. I think on this album we took these typical Lucifer ingredients a little further and expended a little bit so you still have the doom and the heaviness and so on but you also have slow songs. We stay true to ourselves but the goal is always to not repeat a song that we’ve done already so hopefully we manage to keep the melodies interesting. “

When asked her past relations with the band Ghost
“We have been on tour together (with Ghost), we supported Ghost on a French arena tour which was very interesting. I’ve seen Ghost grow because I used to put on shows in Berlin (Germany) I was a small local heavy metal promoter. I used to run a club called Kill Em All Club dedicated to old school heavy metal and hard rock. I would put on bands and I put on Ghost. I think it was 2011 before the first album came out and they played in front of 80 people there. They wore masked they already had the church robes.”

When asked if she thought the band Ghost would become so successful
“No but I didn’t really think about it. The thing is I have seen another band grow like this. I grew up with the guys from Rammstein because I come from East Berlin. I have a brother that is 11 years older than me and he was a GDR punk and it was a very small punk scene in GDR because a problem with the GDR (German Democratic Republic) government politically. Rammstein also came from that same punk scene. So my brother was really close friends with Christian “Flake” Lorenz and Paul Landers. I know Flake the keyboard player since I was 3 years old. So I have seen the band rise

When asked if she thought Rammstein would be so successful
“No but you don’t consciously think about it. It happens and your like wow pretty cool and now the same thing happens with Ghost, it is amazing. It makes me really happy cause it is really makes it possible (to be successful).”

When asked if they have had problems with promoters or church groups due to the name Lucifer
“It’s funny that is a very American or North American, problem. In Sweden everything is very progressive in terms of what role the church plays versus the government and nobody raises an eyebrow at this name in Germany or Sweden at all. It’s not associated with the plague as much as it is in the USA . Sometimes I see comments (online) uh and that’s only always an Americans that says oh this band would be way more successful if their name wasn’t Lucifer in America. Sometimes somebody posts a Lucifer song and then you have the ones from the Bible Belt that are like oh my God I can’t listen to that with that name. So they don’t even give the song the time of the day because of the name. But I have thought about it, am I willing to compromise and change that name because of that? No I’m just going to keep on going.”

Although Lucifer is known to notoriously deliver critically acclaimed albums, supreme songwriting and quality recordings, LUCIFER V is rumored to be their best album yet. Combining elements of all their previous albums into one monumental mass of electrifying heavy rock and roll. Eerie landscapes shaped by soaring guitar riffs, the thunderous pounding of bass and drums from some sort of groovy inferno, haunted melodies to weep into your drink to, the screeching tires of a 1971 Cadillac hearse, the humorous morbidity and tragic wit of Johanna’s lyrics.

If death had a best friend, it would be Lucifer and they would hang out together at the local cemetery, shooting the shit.

ANA Perform Passionate, Bittersweet Reminiscence in ‘Moth’ Music Video

ANA are a female-fronted symphonic metal band from Melbourne (Australia). Their sound is suspenseful, mysterious, and soulful, and they just premiered a new music video and single entitled “Moth“. This is the first single & music video taken from their upcoming EP album The Art of Letting Go which is scheduled to be released on March 29, 2024 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced by Josh Mak & Anna Khristenko, recorded & mixed by Chris Themelco (Eye of the Enemy, Colour & Shade, Naberus) at Monolith Studios, and mastered by Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson (Groove Armada, Soilwork, Mayhem) at The Panic Room Studio, and the music video was directed by Aaron Mak.

“Moth is one of my favorite songs from the EP because it commences and concludes with a gentle melody, whereas the middle of the song emanates a passionate heat” says lead vocalist Anna Khristenko. “I found this an apt reflection of who I am as a person. From the beginning I knew I wanted to feature a ballerina to physically manifest both the beauty and pain associated with passion. We found the lovely Carol Green who has performed with Australia’s National ballet company, The Australian Ballet. She was mentored by Sulamith Messerer, a prominent Russian ballerina and choreographer who played a key role in establishing the Tokyo Ballet. Carol brought an irreplaceable quality to her performance that extended beyond mere technical skill. Utilizing the act of ballet, she conveyed the bittersweet nostalgia of returning to a familiar action and the conflicting feelings that follow, all whilst being a truly kind, elegant and exquisite person to work with.” Director Aaron Mak adds, “The song is about irrational passion; the inevitability that no matter how many times you have been hurt, you continuously fly towards the light, like a Moth to the flame. We portray this with the simultaneous actions of the band’s passionate performance, and the seasoned ballerina’s emotionally charged performance. To ultimately reveal that the ballerina is a future version of Anna, we demonstrate that love and passion can take a hold of us beyond the boundaries of our bodies, our minds and even time itself.”

The new EP album by Ana is entitled The Art of Letting Go and the record is a portrait of passionate emotions bared to the bone, the skin peeled back on our hearts showing new vibrant colors. Vocalist Anna Khristenko offers us an intimate vocal that is mesmerizing, smooth, and ethereal, yet also rocking, sassy, and badass. Like a magic carpet ride through mist and shadows, the band creates a sense of suspense and payoff like some mystic noir-setting suddenly becoming a lighted path to an absolutely beautiful music that is addictive, catchy, and hauntingly vivid. The arrangements on this record are dynamically intriguing and sonically satisfying. The rhythm guitar patterns are crisp and full, the lead solos electrifying, and the keys used inventively as lead, background, and counterpoint in a variety of soundscapes. The bass is all balls and bottom, and the drums alternate between a deep groove, a force on the march, and flares and fireworks in hummingbird sixteenths smooth as late autumn dusk. Altogether, this record makes the chaotic parts of life seem poetic, and it reinforces to us that there is still room for radiance in our souls, in our lives, in the world. The Art of Letting Go was produced by Josh Mak & Anna Khristenko, recorded & mixed by Chris Themelco (Eye of the Enemy, Colour & Shade, Naberus) at Monolith Studios, and mastered by Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson (Groove Armada, Soilwork, Mayhem) at The Panic Room Studio. The Art of Letting Go will be released on March 29, 2024 by Eclipse Records.

AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE Drop Terminator Inspired Third Single ‘Destroy The Machines’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 17, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE. Leave a comment

After nearly 10 years of absence, the world’s most brutal band, AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE, muscled their way back into the scene with the announcement of their first new album in a decade, Quad Brutal! Scheduled for release on February 23, 2024 via Napalm Records, Quad Brutal features 10 tracks of heavyweight thrash-infused extremity and sprint-worthy speed. It will instantly have listeners coming back for more – ready for endless reps and skipping nothing (except maybe leg day).

Today, following the band’s raging latest singles “No Pain No Gain” and “Don’t Be Lazy”, AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE – the unmissable project helmed by As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis – returns with another new burner, the Terminator inspired track “Destroy The Machines”. Featuring vocals from the unstoppable Dany Lambesis and deft guitar work by Mark MacDonald and Joey Alarcon (Wolves at the Gate, Born Through Fire) – the track combines the most blistering metalcore and thrash-infused savagery known to both man and machinekind!

Tim Lambesis says about “Destroy The Machines”:
“AI has begun taking over, and it happening pretty quickly. Arnold warned us about it back in 1991, and we should have listened. 33 years later I’m doing to best I can to spread the message that will save humanity. We must destroy the machines. Or at very least we should have a lot of fun singing about it.

The vision I had in mind while writing the opening riff was to create a war march. Since AI can create song now, I challenge it to write one this aggressive. It’s my sonic war against the machines, and I believe I’m victorious… at least for now.”

In historic AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE fashion, Quad Brutal is supported by a slew of guests on each track – in addition to vocal contributions from Dany Lambesis (HELLBØRN), tracks on Quad Brutal are supercharged by professional bodybuilders and vocalists Craig Golias and Rob Bailey, vocalist Ricky Hoover (Ov Sulfur, ex-Suffokate), guitar virtuosos Angel Vivaldi, Clayton King, Brandon Richter (Bleeding Through), Joey Alarcon (Wolves at the Gate, Born Through Fire) and more. Oh, and Ahhnold himself, of course!

Absolute units like relentless debut single “No Pain No Gain”, hammering “Get Down”, apocalyptic harbinger “Judgment Day” and massive “I Never Quit” blister and groove with unmatched fury, while death-meets-metalcore burners like “Destroy The Machines”, “MeatGrinder” and “Don’t Be Lazy” explode with the colossal strength of Ahhnold himself. On the other end of the weight bench, large and in charge head-spinners like “Conquer” and “Hey Bro Can You Spot Me?” bring the brutality without sacrificing melody, and will have fans of Lambesis’ other projects turning their heads.

Lambesis says about Quad Brutal:
“Being commissioned by The Govournator to sonically encompass the brutality of 80s action, bodybuilding, and judgment day into one album is a task that comes with great responsibility. First, I had to make it brutal of course. Then, I had to make sure to include choruses so that people don’t forget the great wisdom of Ahhnold’s words. And since it’s the fourth album, I had to really work on my quad strength at the gym to someday be ready to carry the weight of the world from the album cover when it’s passed along to me someday. The result is an album that is much more diverse than any ADM album I’ve written, and in the spectrum of heavy, it is the most brutal by a long shot when you hear all 10 songs.”

AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE launched 15 years ago as a one man band, triumphing as the metal scene’s newest obsession with their 2008 debut album, Total Brutal. After releasing two more acclaimed albums in 2009 and 2014, the one man band did the impossible – they broke up. After a decade of regrowth and rebirth, and with the help of good friends by his side, Lambesis finally felt inspired to work on new music for the project, now emerging as Quad Brutal – chock full of the band’s most heavy, breakneck riffage, non-stop pummeling rhythms and Ahhnold-approved ferocity yet. AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE is prepared to climb back to the top of their weight class – packing more punch than Mr. Universe himself with Quad Brutal!
