Firenze Metal Festival returns on Feb. 10, 2024 at the Viper Theatre in Florence, after a devastating sell-out in November. The main Florentine metal event presents “Metal Blood Edition”, an edition dedicated to the most extreme genres. There will be 6 bands taking turns on stage starting at 7:30 p.m. (gates open at 7 p.m.). Tickets online on TicketOne and Boxer Ticket at € 20.00 + d.p., and at the box office at € 25.00 (usual price of previous editions).

In the historic Viper Theatre (location entered in the top 10 Italy for live shows) you will find food & drink bar, ample parking with attendant staff, and convenient checkroom service.

Headliners the legendary Cripple Bastards, an aƫctive band since 1988, included in the top 20 of the essential discography of European grindcore of tuƫst times, along with Napalm Death, Carcass, Extreme Noise Terror and Nasum.

Storming the Viper Theatre will be Fulci, icons of slam death metal. Fresh from yet another intercontinental tour, the trio is preparing to invest the Viper Theatre with a dizzying dose of violence, inspired by horror director Lucio Fulci.

Brutal technical and ruthless death metal for Hour Of Penance, a band that has been bringing its distinctive style with black metal influences to stages throughout Europe since 1999, opening for Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder, and Devildriver.

“Reborn from Hatred”: this is the title of the new album with which the historic Gory Blister sign their long-awaited return on stage. Tech death metal precise and furious for the 1991-born band, amid lyrics inspired by psychology, literature and science fiction.

From the ashes of Disboskator, rise Deviation, a death thrash metal band characterized by insane rhythms and hellish growls (Gorgo of Hades on vocals), a lethal mix of blind rage.

Opening the metal fest will be revelation Sinister Ghost: fresh off the release of their new album “What’s Left Of Human?”, the lineup offers bleak and original black death metal.

After hosting legendary bands such as Mortuary Drape, Necrodeath, Forgotten Tomb, Destrage, Slug Gore and many others, Firenze Metal starts 2024 with a new and overwhelming edition of the festival, an unmissable appointment for metalheads.

In November 2019, Como guitarist Francesco Rasero decided to start a new musical project inspired by melodic metal and hard rock. Needless to say, the difficulties due to the 2020 pandemic also slowed down the birth of Aradia. The official lineup consists of : Stefano Cheville Perini ( vocals ) Francesco Rasero ( lead and rhythm guitar ) Marco Hellion Gilardoni ( lead and rhythm guitar ) Andrea Fumagalli ( bass guitar ) Cristian Sampietro ( drums ) Special mention : Paolo Gilardoni ( bass) who was a founder but had to leave the project due to family commitments During the first 2 years of activity despite the periods of stop already mentioned, the band cut its teeth jammando on classics by Iron Maiden, Saxon and Judas Priest ( but also Motley Crue ) and soon the need to write their own music was born.

THE DREDGE Release Post-Apocalyptic Rock Single ‘Whales’ Without Autotune

THE DREDGE from Bergen, Norway, debuts with the single Whales from their forthcoming album Torches, (spring 2024), a post-apocalyptic rock album with a backbone of bass, drums and distorted guitars and a head full of anguished vocal.

With a soundscape that is big and dramatic, and with a beat that never lets up, Whales evolves through a hefty, hypnotizing riff and manic metaphors – and creates a musical world distorted on the brink of collapse.

The single, as well as the forthcoming album, is thoughtfully produced by the band and Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Kvelertak), spiked with elegant details and with no trace of autotune or click-tracks. All you hear is the hard, physical work of the band’s fundamental groove.

Pre-order the single at https://thedredge1.bandcamp.com/album/whales-single

The Dredge has been feeding on rock since they were teens, which they are not anymore; One can hear the mix of lived lives and a thousand evenings of rehearsal in what is a band of incredible coordinated interplay. In addition, one can hear the inspiration of so many bands that it impossible to name them. Nonetheless; names like Jane’s Addiction, The Police, XTC, Mogwai, The Mars Volta and The Smile are perhaps among them.

The Dredge are: Kjetil Vikene (vocals, guitars, keys), Mats Andersen (bass) and Frode Røsjø from Helheim  (drums). The band was founded in the 90’s and they have finally managed to let an album escape from their vast vault of original material. And about time! It is a shame that this is only the first single; rumours has it that this ridiculously slow moving monster of a band has enough material to fill another five albums.

SNAILMATE Offer ‘Stress Sandwich’ Antidote to a Pressurized Year

Phoenix-based Snailmate crowned 2023 by releasing their album ‘Stress Sandwich’ and relentlessly touring. Rleased via Toronto’s Indiestructable Records, they offer a twisted humorous take on existential anxiety, delivering funky, poppy, screamy fun through alternative raps. The duo’s also presents the video for ‘Trash, Baby’, created by Chase A Warren.

Alternatively described as synthpunk grindcore pop nerd rap, this has practically become a way of life for the duo, reinforced by their earlier albums ‘Live In Japan’ (2019) and ‘Love in the Microwave’ (2017), plus a myriad of EPs and singles.

Snailmate is lyricist-vocalist and synth wizard Kalen Lander and drummer-backup vocalist Bentley Monet, whose music fuses synthpunk, grindcore, pop and nerd rap for an unpredictable and explosive sound. Together they craft music that is cathartic and relatable yet unique and genre-defying, using humor and wit to tackle topics from isolation and queer identity to bangers about hot sauce and nostalgia.

Produced by Ari Leopold at Lava Lake Studio in Phoenix, ‘Stress Sandwich’ is about growth, exploring themes such as vulnerability, disappointment, and art-making as a beautiful yet imperfect process. They go head to head with depression, anxiety, imposter syndrome, anger, hunger, laziness… but also fun things! These 10 tracks – laced with sarcasm, breathless lyricism and unpredictable genre-bending energy – will leave you satisfied and wanting more.

“This album has been in the works for so long. It took years to process all these feelings and experiences and distill them into just ten short songs, but I’m really glad we didn’t try and finish this thing any sooner. It would have tasted so much different. The flavors needed time to develop. I couldn’t have written ‘Toll Road’ until that bastard stole our money. ‘The Snailmate Show’ wasn’t a thing before we were forced to quarantine and couldn’t play live. And until we had to go through some intense physical changes, ‘My Weird Gross Body’ just wouldn’t have been the same,” says  Kalen Lander.

“I beat myself up a lot during this whole process. I felt like I was taking too long to write the lyrics, and that meant that I was bad at writing. I had lost my touch. But then I really started to understand how, when I FINALLY finished the words for a song, it was perfect. It couldn’t have been perfect if I’d forced it out any sooner. And I think ‘The Laziest Man in the World’ encapsulates that sentiment better than anything.”

As part of the LGBTQ community and with Bentley being a transgender artist, Snailmate inspires their listeners to be unapologetic and unashamed of who they are, cultivating a fervent fanbase based on inclusivity and shows as a safe space for all genders and people of all sexualities.

‘Stress Sandwich’ is out now, available digitally from fine music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. It can also be ordered on vinyl and CD vinyl from the band’s own store, where ample merch is also available, including their very own award-winning hot sauce!
