HELFRÓ are back with Tálgröf, an album that’s inspired by the dark manifestations of the human mind. The sickness of humankind is explored through these intense rhythmic passages, fusing the extremities of traditional death metal with sombre, introspective lyrical convictions.

Today, the Icelandic black metal duo are releasing the second single off their sophomore album. “‘Ildi Óhreins Anda” (which translates to “Oxygen for the Unclean Spirit”) is a melodic, chugging groove set to shrieking vocals that howl away on humanity’s exceptional ability to deceive. The song culminates in one of Tálgröf‘s most destructive moments, as a torrent of supersonic drums and tremolo-picked guitar consume the already tortured vocals.

“The lyrics for this song revolve specifically about lying,” says drummer and vocalist Ragnar Sverrisson. “How lying to others can benefit your cause and help throw people off the trail as you plan to do them harm, and how lying is a right that the manipulator should exercise whenever they can. Lying is the foundation of their success, the oxygen that they breathe to survive.”

Watch the visualizer video for ‘Ildi Óhreins Anda’, which was created by Jeffrey V. Daniels.

Tálgröf comes out 1st of December.

Formed amidst the haunting landscapes of Iceland, HELFRÓ is a formidable force in the world of blackened death metal. With their relentless aggression, atmospheric soundscapes, and compelling songwriting, they have carved their own path in the metal scene.

The journey of HELFRÓ began when guitarist and songwriter Ragnar Sverrisson sought to bring his musical visions to life, Drawing inspiration from the bleakness of Icelandic winters, the mysticism of nature, and the chaos of the human experience. HELFRÓ‘s debut album, aptly titled “Helfró“, was released in 2020, marking the band’s official entry into the world of extreme metal. With a relentless barrage of blast beats, crushing riffs, and haunting melodies, the album showcased their ability to seamlessly blend aggression and atmosphere.

Evolving with the advent of the sophomore album, Tálgröf, listeners can expect even more ferocity as HELFRÓ dives deeper into death metal territory while not straying to far from the signature ice-cold climactic tremolo riffing notable of their previous work. Characterized by its ferocity, the new album also carries introspective and thought-provoking themes, reflecting the band members’ willingness to explore the depths of the human experience. HELFRÓ is destined to leave an impact on the realm of extreme music, captivating audiences with their unique brand of Icelandic metal.

SERENITY Unveil Final New Single & Official Music Video ‘The End of Babylon’

Shortly before SERENITY is heading off on the biggest tour of their career with heavy metal giants POWERWOLF, the Symphonic Metal legends have revealed the final single, “The End of Babylon”, from their new studio album, Nemesis AD, out November 3, 2023 via Napalm Records! Successor to The Last Knight (2020) – which entered the official German album charts at #25 – Nemesis AD is the first record featuring Marco Pastorino (Temperance) as additional guitarist and backing vocalist. “The End of Babylon” represents one of the darker, heavier tracks on the new full-length.

Climactic arrangements carry the dramatic storyline of “The End of Babylon”, as the theatrical instrumentation leads the listener to a faraway world while the vocal performance of skilled singer Georg Neuhauser ultimately unlocks the track’s hit potential. The accompanying official music video enchants by illustrating the music’s bombast. Check the video out below, and pre-order your copy of the magnificent new album!

SERENITY on “The End of Babylon”:
With the ‘End of Babylon’, we created a darker song about transience and the end of an era – inspired by the famous work “The whore of Babylon” by Albrecht Dürer. It’s taken out of the “Apocalypse” series and sadly could fit the latest situation in middle east. It seems we don’t learn from history.

Known for their thematic albums inspired by historic characters and stories of the past, on Nemesis AD, SERENITY draw inspiration from the life and highly influential art of painter Albrecht Dürer of the German renaissance.

Grandiose intro track “Memoriae Alberti Dureri” sets the scene for the album, before legendary singer Roy Khan (Conception, ex-Kamelot) lends his impressive vocals on the mighty “The Fall of Man”. “Ritter, Tod und Teufel (Knightfall)” (named after Dürer’s famous artwork) features lyrics sung partially in German, for the first time in the band’s history spanning over more than two decades. The powerful track showcases SERENITY’s signature blend of orchestral arrangements, heavy guitar riffs, and soaring vocals. Heart-wrenchingly emotional yet empowering “Reflections (of AD)” mesmerizes the listener with its awe-inspiring instrumentation, multifaceted vocals and brilliant changes throughout the gripping eight-minute track. Theatrical “Sun of Justice” leads the listener to a faraway fantasy world while the vocal performance of skilled singer Georg Neuhauser ultimately unlocks the track’s hit potential. Monumental orchestral version of “The Fall of Man” closes the album on a thrilling note that is sure to send a chill up your spine.

With Nemesis AD, SERENITY adds yet another bombastic symphonic metal masterpiece to their notable discography – there is no doubt that the talented unit’s standing in the scene is well deserved.

SERENITY comment:
“We are always focused on historical themes. Our latest album The Last Knight (2020) was about Maximilian I and his era. The narrative unfolds further as we structured our new album around his contemporary Albrecht Dürer, who is one of the most revolutionary and remarkable artists of all time for us, representing a pivotal juncture between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, bridging Gothic and modern eras.”

JOB FOR A COWBOY to Release “Moon Healer” Full-Length on February 23rd, Reveal ‘The Forever Rot’ Single

Iconic, experimental death metal outfit JOB FOR A COWBOY will release their long-awaited new full-length, Moon Healer, on February 23rd, 2024 via Metal Blade Records. The release marks the band’s first new full-length in a decade!

Moon Healer is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band’s critically adored, 2014-released Sun Eater full-length, Moon Healer is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where Sun Eater left off.

But why the extended wait? “I had to take a step back in the band for family. It was the catalyst that eventually created a fork in the road for all of us. We all drifted into our separate paths,” explains Davy. “Fatherhood, additional music projects, academic degrees, and careers outside the band took priority and life’s focus,” so the band agreed on a prolonged hiatus, but with the door open for a return. “Everything lined up for us to collaborate on a new project together; it was time to cross the threshold for something new.”

Compared to past offerings, Moon Healer is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it’s more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. When discussing the lyrical genesis of songs like “Beyond The Chemical Doorway,” “Grinding Wheels Of Ophanim,” and “Into The Crystalline Crypts,” Davy’s writing gets cryptic and elliptical-sounding, part Philip K. Dick, part Timothy Leary. “I envision this as a death metal album born from the mystical confines of an alchemist’s laboratory. The music acts as potent potions, inducing hallucinogenic journeys that unlock the secrets of the universe.“

JOB FOR A COWBOY delved as deeply into the music of Moon Healer, as Davy did for the vocals and lyrics. The band traveled to Sanford, Florida to record with producer Jason Suecof (Death Angel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide) at his Audiohammer Studios. “We’ve gone through this same ritual with Jason for a multitude of reasons. But the most obvious one is that he’s a masterful songwriter, guitar player, and even vocalist. He has an ear for ideas that very few seemingly have. He totally understands where we’re coming from as a band.”

Moon Healer is also the first JOB FOR A COWBOY album to feature session drummer Koperweis (ex-Animosity). Davy previously worked with Koperweis in the progressive death metal side project Fleshwrought, which released Dementia/Dyslexia through Metal Blade in 2010. Koperweis also worked as a session drummer for Machine Head and Whitechapel and is currently in the band Entheos, whose third full-length came out on Metal Blade in March 2023.

Following previously released single, “The Agony Seeping Storm,” which displayed a mathematically mind-blowing hybrid of bludgeoning death metal specializing in unconventional riffing that echoes the resemblance of legendary experimentalists like Cynic, Atheist, and Gorguts, latest single, “The Forever Rot,” stands in stark contrast, delving into a lonesome and haunting guitar melody, then evolving into shimmering reflections of Obituary, Coroner, Voivod, and even hints of Neurosis. In other words, forget about your preconceived perceptions of what this band was. This twists vocal tropes, chord forms, and melodies into loops of razor wire.

Davy furthers elaborates, “On MoonHealer, we explore a concept centered around a close friend who embarked on a relentless quest for profound enlightenment through the incessant abuse of hallucinogenic drugs, leading to a severe disconnection from reality due to the toll it took on their mental health. The song ‘The Forever Rot’ touches on their beliefs that human evolution and development have somehow led to the restriction of perceiving otherworldly or inter-dimensional realities and religious entities. It delves into their disconnection from the physical world and the notion that true vitality may be found in the ability to self-destruct and recreate. That some of the drugs they consumed opened these realities that evolution has closed the door on.”

British slide guitarist and singer songwriter, Troy Redfern is pleased to announce the release of his new single Getaway; the second single taken from his forthcoming 2024 studio album Invocation.

Released Wednesday 25th October, Getaway is available on all streaming platforms HERE.  The single is accompanied by an official music video available to watch on YouTube HERE.

Featuring his strongest material to date, the Invocation album will be launched with an extensive Kickstarter Campaign on Monday October 30th. Coloured vinyl, hand-drawn artworks and an array of exclusive bundles are just a few of the things on offer to backers of the new album. Further information about the countdown to the Kickstarter campaign is available HERE.

Getaway follows Redfern’s 2023 summer festival appearances including Steelhouse, Maid in Stone, and Rawa Blues Festival in Poland where he performed to a crowd of 7,000.

The new single dovetails Redfern’s highly anticipated November 2023 UK tour supporting guitar prodigy Philip Sayce, followed by a mainstage performance at Planet Rockstock in Wales during early December. Tickets for the Sayce/Redfern November UK tour are available from https://troyredfern.com/dates.

Invocation is the follow-up to Redfern’s 2022 studio album The Wings of Salvation which received rave reviews. Said Blues Rock Review of the Salvation album, “Redfern balances big-league chops with mad songwriting skills to bring us an action-packed set of blues rock that will blow out your windows.”

Getaway is produced by Dave Marks and mixed by Jo Webb. The new single features Troy Redfern (guitar, vocals), Paul Stewart (drums), and Dave Marks (bass).

On Getaway and the forthcoming album, I wanted to write and record songs that were bigger and ballsier than what has come before,” says Redfern. “The new songs embrace more of the rockier elements of my writing and playing.  I’ve also given myself the creative freedom to explore and feel out other styles or aspects of my writing that have not been heard on any of my other albums.”

Continues Redfern, “As an artist I feel it’s important to keep pushing and striving to refine your art, while staying true to your vision.  It is important to know who you are as an artist, and on Getaway and the upcoming album, I think I have finally perfected my own contemporary signature sound.

Getaway is a slide guitar, rock ‘n’ roll tour de force. Lyrically, it deals with themes of freedom and knowing when it’s time to leave a bad situation. It’s undeniably Troy Redfern full circle blues rock and roll!

“Getaway is about cutting yourself some slack,” adds Redfern. “It’s about transforming your life, even if there are difficult decisions to be made.  As they say, from the mud grows the lotus.”

“At this creative pace, you couldn’t catch him in a runaway stagecoach.”  – Classic Rock

TROY THE BAND to Release Debut Album “Cataclysm” on February 2nd

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 25, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: TROY THE BAND. Leave a comment

Cataclysm, the debut full-length album from London-based Doom-gaze four-piece TROY THE BAND, will be released on Sweden’s Bonebag Records on February 2nd 2024. Since the release of their debut EP, The Blissful Unknown, Troy The Band have become mainstays in the London heavy music scene, with a list of accolades in 2023 that includes appearances at Desertfest London, Masters of the Riff, and Stoomfest, as well as a craft beer collaboration with East London’s Old Street Brewery.

With Cataclysm the band have taken the most unique elements of their debut EP and forged them into an album that blends elements of Stoner-Doom, Post Rock, Shoegaze and Heavy Psych. Cataclysm is dark, heavy, and identifiably their own.

For this album the band went back to work with Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse studio in East London. From the band’s point of view, this was a no-brainer: “We knew we wanted to work with Wayne again on this album. He’s great to work with and he had an important hand in shaping the sound of our EP. We knew he would get what we were trying to do with this album, and we really couldn’t be happier with how it has turned out.”

Each track is built from a sturdy foundation of Sean Durbin’s bass riffs which are then overlaid with Sean Burn’s distinctive guitar playing and Craig Newman’s unique and ethereal vocal style, adding layers of harmonic complexity and tension that is a defining feature of their sound.

The album title is derived from the name the band gave the initial demo of the title track, driven by its musically jarring feel rather than its lyrical content. It was then self-consciously adopted as the album title to reflect their aim of causing a musical upheaval in the heavy music scene. We believe it will.
