Japanese RYUJIN Announce New Self-Titled Album, Out January 12th

Formed in 2011 as Gyze, “Samurai Metal” band RYUJIN deftly deliver heavy metal from Japan to the international masses with their self-titled Napalm Records debut, RYUJIN, out January 12, 2024! Blending both Japanese and English lyricism and featuring production and several guest features by Matthew Kiichi Heafy (Trivium), the band’s high speed riffs and breakneck guitar descents pair with traditional Japanese elements, delivering a sound influenced by everything from ancient orchestral Gagaku to even modern anime themes.

After releasing four highly acclaimed albums and appearing at major festivals worldwide, RYUJIN have developed their own identity, expressed with accents of tasteful traditional Japanese instrumentation (i.e. Shamisen, Dragon Flute, Erhu, Taiko), and lead guitar god Ryoji Shinomoto’s incredible shredding technique and ripping vocals!

Today, the band launches their new album announcement alongside a brand new single, entitled “Raijin & Fujin”, accompanied by a high-energy music video. The track is an epic power metal storm featuring guest vocal contributions from Matthew Kiichi Heafy, shifting into a swirling tornado of rattling double bass and catapulting solos!

RYUJIN mastermind Ryoji Shinomoto says about the album and new single:
“This is the first album of the evolution from Gyze to RYUJIN! We want everyone to enjoy Samurai Metal from the Far East! Produced by Matthew, it opens new doors for us and we are honored to release it on the legendary Napalm Records!”

Featured guest Matthew Kiichi Heafy adds:
“RYUJIN delivers music unlike anyone else on the planet. It was their original sound that initially grasped my attention and left me needing to have more and more of what they do. I am humbled and honored to have been able to contribute to this upcoming masterpiece… this opus!

This is the album the world needs.”

RYUJIN features production by Matthew Kiichi Heafy and mixing/mastering by Mark Lewis, with guest appearances by Heafy (vocals and conducting on various tracks) and Mukai Wataru of the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra (cello). Blending both Japanese and English lyricism, RYUJIN’s tracks feature titles based on the words of the Ainu people of Hokkaido (RYUJIN’s home region), as well as famous Japanese paintings and idioms.

Opening instrumental track “Hajimari” sets an ominous stage for blistering burner “Gekokujo” – a tastefully thrash-ified death metal riff-fest colliding with expressive folk-inspired passages and head-spinning technique. Ryoji’s blazing leads are met instantly with the peerless skills of drummer Shuji Shinomoto and bassist Aruta Watanabe. First single “Raijin & Fujin” is an epic power metal storm featuring guest vocal contributions from Matthew Kiichi Heafy, shifting into a swirling tornado of rattling double bass and catapulting solos, while “The Rainbow Song” also features soaring clean vocals by Heafy blended between modern melodic heavy metal and power metal innovation. Tracks like “Dragon, Fly Free” and “Kunnecup” invite the listener to sing-along with RYUJIN as they paint musical canvases of adventure and positivity. “Scream of the Dragon” returns to extreme influences amid uplifting choruses and a story blending English and Japanese lyrics, before “Gekirin” ventures into darker death metal influences – cascading into nautically-inspired melodies (as “Ryujin” is a dragon god of the sea in Japanese mythology, these oceanic musical themes weave seamlessly throughout the album).

The album nears the end with three heart-gripping, primarily Japanese-language opuses – the rock-opera-like ballad “Saigo No Hoshi”, the powerfully victorious and traditionally-inspired “Ryujin” and a cover of Linked Horizon’s “Guren No Yumiya” – widely known as an opening theme of popular anime series Attack On Titan. The album finishes with a bonus English-language version of “Saigo No Hoshi”, with vocals once again performed by Matthew Kiichi Heafy.

RYUJIN illustrates an exotic sonic experience that will transport music lovers to a world of fantastic adventure and technical extravagance!

SYMPHONY OF SWEDEN Share New Single ‘That Night’

A few months passed by since SYMPHONY OF SWEDEN released a new track, but they’ve just broken their radio silence: their new song, “That Night” hopefully will be another fan favorite – if so, the band could consider 13 their new lucky number!

Stream on Spotify

Lee’s statement: “We have had this song for a while… We really liked it, but didn’t know if we were gonna release it as a single or have it as an album track. So we waited but later decided to share it with the world.

The story is about a deal I did with myself. I have always known where I want to go and who I want to be. But it’s a damn hard road to get there… And life is no cakewalk either way.

But after I got sick and started to get better I just felt it was time, now nothing was going to stop me.

So I wrote the story of the promise I made to myself “That Night”.

Evan had the music ready so I wrote the lyrics and the melody. But I felt like something was missing. So I asked, “What about a solo”? I have really missed playing guitar. So I wrote a solo and we both felt like the song got even better.”

Evan’s statement: “This track started with a drum recording with Eric Günther. I believe I asked him to play along with another song, it could have been a Disturbed track or something similar… Then I asked Henrik Bodin-Sköld to lay down some guitar ideas which basically built the fundament for most of the song parts. Then Lee got this rough music background and came up with lyrics and vocal melody. First, we had some trouble getting the vibe right and we had an idea to go back in time, a bit to the golden era of the 80s hair metal sound… So another round of production and this track is our first track ever with 3 different guitarists in a single track! Henrik plays most of the guitars but I play the ”chugga chugga” guitars in the verses and Lee plays the solo!

I had a quite busy summer involving both work in the studio and holidays…I have been to Milano, Florence, Rome, Corsica, and Budapest this summer! And yes, we recorded some really good songs as well!” – Evan reflected on the past few months.

What does the future holds? “Now I look forward to lock myself in in the studio for the rest of the Autumn and finish the album!” – Evan added.

Welcome to the musical world of Symphony Of Sweden!

Coming from the North of Sweden with winter and ice bears all over the place, the music is the other way around. Grand and epic with huge arrangements, the missing link between pop and metal – this is Symphony of Sweden! Add the powerful voice of Linus “Lee” Wester and the creative talent of Pontus “Evan” Hagberg you will have a concept that brings you on a journey from here to eternity.

Symphony Of Sweden is:
Pontus „Evan” Hagberg
Linus „Lee” Wester

Evan and Lee lived in the same small town up north in Sweden. Lee had his own little service point, betting shop, tobacco store nearby which also happened to be Evan’s local service point where he went to get his parcels. After saying hello to each other for a couple of years, there was one day Evan had a parcel to get – which obviously was music-related. They fell into conversation with each other, a few days later Evan invited Lee to his studio. Evan: „he had found one of my instrumental tracks on Youtube and sang it with a new melody on top and lyrics for me in the studio, right there when he just arrived! I was blown away, and a week later we had our first ever track produced and completed. As soon he sang his first two words in the studio I wanted to work with him!”

The band released their first album, Inner Demons in January 2021, and their second album, Saints Of Yesterday came out on the 3rd of February, 2022.

Finnish melodic death metal band Superdeathflame‘s new single A Tale Of Disclosure is a song about a person who is closed in his shell and hides his true self inside. Persian Epic Metallers BROKEN PILLARS Release Debut EP “Of Pillars and Primordial Myth”

Iran’s epic metal duo BROKEN PILLARS released its debut EP ‘Of Pillars and Primordial Myth’ via Ardawahisht Kollektive on September 8. The project originally premiered the EP on Decibel two days prior, on September 6.

Broken Pillars is a Persian epic metal duo consisting of ‘Harpag Karnik’ and ‘Earthen Shade’, both members of the prolific Iranian digital label ‘Ardawahisht Kollective’. The pair is the mastermind behind the label’s other projects such as ‘Erancnoir’, ‘Forelunar’, ‘Urnscent’, ‘Désespéré’, etc. ‘Broken Pillars’ an entity, born in mid-2023, tries to channel the ancient landscapes and epic myths of Iran into the sonic vessel of epic extreme metal.

Artwork by Harpag Karnik

In ancient times the Greek and Persian empires have always been at odds with each other as neighboring nations. They have had many political, and social interactions, both friendly as well as hostile. Broken Pillars’ music is the Persian response to the well-established Hellenic black metal style. This response gives some much-needed context to what Broken Pillars has achieved sonically. The songs contain slow yet deliberate doomy-sounding guitar riffing and grandiose symphonic arrangements.

Fans can support the project by buying the EP on bandcamp.

The music can be interpreted as chants trying to reawaken an empire lost to the cruelties of time. The name “broken pillars” is inspired by the ancient ruins of Persepolis, one of the oldest sites of civilization, which was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire circa 500 BC. Through the band’s name, the duo is ambitious to represent not only their heritage, but also the current identity chaos going on in Iran. The EP features ancient deities and legends from Iran’s ancient history.

Spanish trash metal masters ANGELUS APATRIDA are now unveiling a brand new single, “To Whom It May Concern,” along with a deep and thought-provoking new music video! The track is taken from the band’s eighth studio album, ‘Aftermath,’ which is due on October 20, 2023 via Century Media Records! The clip, which was scripted and directed by Juan Castillo, J. L. Auñón and Lalo Davia / Kameo Producciones, can be found at THIS LOCATION.

ANGELUS APATRIDA vocalist/guitarist Guillermo Izquierdo comments on the single, “Let me introduce you one of the most complex, personal, deep and solid songs we’ve ever written. This

is an unfinished letter written to whom it may concern, an open-hearted composition with very deep and emotional music and lyrics, together with super heavy, fast riffs, crazy drums and licks, including one of the most epic guitar solos that David has ever composed. The video is a work of art again done by Kameo Producciones, it reflects perfectly every single part, light and dark side of the music and the lyrics themselves. It’s a long song, but you will want more. Please, enjoy it.”

ICYMI: “To Whom It May Concern” follows up the explosive first single, “Cold,” which can be found HERE.

‘Aftermath’ follows Angelus Apatrida‘s 2021 eponymous full-length, which topped the official album charts in Spain at # 1! The release also debuted in Germany at # 49 and Switzerland at # 41.

‘Aftermath’ features a diverse cast of guest appearances by vocalist Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed), guitarist Pablo García (Warcry), singer Todd La Torre (Queensrÿche) and rapper Sho-Hai. The album was once again self-produced by the band, with recordings handled by Juanan López at Baboon Records in Albacete, Spain and mixing and mastering by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Overkill, Hatebreed, Municipal Waste, Shadows Fall) at Planet-Z in Wilbraham, MA, USA.)

Previously, Angelus Apatrida released a documentary that was directed by Mike Casey, entitled ’28 Months Later: A Post-Apocalyptic Metal Documentary.’ The film detailed the band’s journey from preparing for 2021’s self-titled opus leading towards the creation of ‘Aftermath.’ The clip can be seen HERE.

The band will also be appearing at several prestigious European festivals throughout the summer before heading on a European tour in support of ‘Aftermath’ together with Death Angel and Sacred Reich in October/November! The run will be followed by a string of dates in Spain between November and February. The full itinerary and ticket links can be found HERE.

The world has taken a battering over the last few years, but ANGELUS APATRIDA is leading the fightback.

Spain’s greatest ever exponents of forward-thinking thrash metal began their campaign at the turn of the century and have been a consistent force for heavy music ever since. From their ferocious 2006 debut album ‘Evil Unleashed’ and 2010’s widely acclaimed ‘Clockwork’ (the band’s first for Century Media), to more recent triumphs like 2018’s ‘Cabaret de la Guillotine,’ ANGELUS APATRIDA has become increasingly unstoppable. In 2023, they will release ‘Aftermath,’ a vicious and vital response to the chaos we see all around us.

With touring plans for 2020 cancelled, ANGELUS APATRIDA simply switched focus to the creative process. The result was ‘Angelus Apatrida,’ a self-titled record that sought to redefine its creators’ era-blending sound, with renewed intensity and uproarious lyrical sensibilities that dug deep into the realities of the modern world. Climbing to the top of the official album charts in Spain at # 1 as well as marking the band’s first ever chart entries in Germany at # 49 and Switzerland at # 41 upon release in 2021, the album showcased a band at the peak of their powers. Understandably, ANGELUS APATRIDA were absolutely itching to get back on the road, which they eventually did with a vengeance.

“We started doing some shows trying to keep things going until the summer of 2021, and then at the end of the year we were able to do some important venues and festivals,” recalls guitarist/vocalist Guillermo Izquierdo. “We spent 2022 and 2023 touring, mostly in Europe and North America. We’ve played Hellfest, Graspop, Dynamo, Resurrection Fest, Rock Fest and Leyendas del Rock, and we did our first headlining tour in the U.S. and Canada. In February 2023 we did the last four dates of the tour in Spain with four total sell outs!”

Clearly one of the hardest-working bands in metal, ANGELUS APATRIDA were not content with simply returning to the live arena. Even as they toured, work on their next album began. Pre-production for ‘Aftermath’ was finished in March 2023, and the band swiftly hit the studio in their hometown of Albacete, once again collaborating with trusted live and studio engineer Juanan López on the capturing of these new metal explosions. The finished tracks were then sent to the legendary Zeuss (Rob Zombie/Overkill/Hatebreed) at Planet-Z in Wilbraham, Massachusetts and polished to a devastating sheen. The results speak for themselves: ‘Aftermath’ is titanium-plated modern thrash of the highest order.

“Every time we sit down and write new music, we try to do the best we can and to put all the new things and experiences we had over the last few years into the mix,” says Guillermo. “The new songs are pure ANGELUS APATRIDA. They’ve got every single essence of the band. There are many songs containing more personal feelings than on previous records. We’re going deep into our souls and feelings sometimes. Since we are living strange, difficult and dark times, we liked the concept of an aftermath. After everything that has happened since 2020 and is still happening in the world, in our society, and in our lives, a lot of strong feelings have come through in the music and lyrics.”

‘Aftermath’ is undoubtedly the most heartfelt and powerful record in ANGELUS APATRIDA’s illustrious history, but it’s also one of the heaviest and most direct. From the neck-wrecking adrenaline rush of opener “Scavenger” to the dark might of the closing “Vultures And Butterflies,” the Spanish quartet’s eighth studio record displays the songwriting muscle and playing prowess of bands like Metallica, Testament and Pantera, while still delivering a huge, jolting dose of ANGELUS APATRIDA’s distinctive trademark attack.

“We can describe ‘Aftermath’ as what metal means to us,” Guillermo says. “It contains the best songs we’ve ever written. It is just very difficult to pick just one or two highlights on this album since every single track could be a single itself.”

Confirming their sturdy reputation in the global metal scene, ANGELUS APATRIDA invited some heavyweight figures to add their talents to ‘Aftermath.’ Hatebreed’s iconic frontman Jamey Jasta lends his caustic bark to “Snob,” while Queensrÿche vocalist Todd La Torre lends his spectacular tones to “Vultures And Butterflies.” Elsewhere, Pablo Garcia, guitarist with Spanish power metal legends Warcry, displays his virtuosity on the incendiary “Fire Eyes,” and Spanish rap star Sho-Hai brings the noise on the brooding “What Kills Us All. “

With no need to regain momentum, ANGELUS APATRIDA is more ready than most to let rip again in 2023. ‘Aftermath’ marks a pinnacle in this band’s determined and always fruitful career. It’s a defiant, uplifting and resolutely metal-as-fuck response to an era defined by chaos and fear. It’s the sound of ANGELUS APATRIDA, doing what they do, but bigger, better, louder and with more passion than ever.

“As soon as the album is released, we are starting a huge live campaign,” adds Guillermo. “We start with a big European tour that will cover most of the mainland and the U.K., and we are already working on getting back to Oceania and Asia, Latin America and making our return to the United States and Canada during the first half of 2024. Expect a great live festival season for summer 2024 and more tours! We’re coming!”
