Noise post-rockers SONIC TIDES proudly releases the track “The Maze, Pt.1”, first single taken from the band’s upcoming EP “Six Sided Square”, scheduled for a re-release on October 13th, 2023 via Epictronic.
As if navigating a labyrinth of complexities, “The Maze, Pt.1” adeptly captures a sense of entrapment and desperation, reflecting the relentless pursuit of an elusive escape. This intricate composition paints a vivid picture of an inescapable cycle, mirroring the struggle to break free from suffocating circumstances. The poignant lyrics serve as a mirror to the emotional turmoil of seeking an escape that seems just beyond reach, while an external force lingers beyond the maze’s confining walls.

Irish thrash metal legends GAMA BOMB have announced details of their upcoming eighth studio album BATS, to be released 10th November via Prosthetic Records.
The band have also revealed their first single ‘Speed Funeral’ from the album, with accompanying video – which finds the quartet in the aftermath of the untimely demise of their beloved mascot, Snowy The Gamabominable Snowman.
Of the new album, Gama Bomb vocalist Philly Byrne comments: “BATS is the weirdest album we’ve ever made. It has a guest spot by hip hop legend The Egyptian Lover, a surprise sax solo, a futuristic prologue, and a crossover song with lyrics by Percy Bysshe Shelley – we finally felt confident enough to take the brakes off and had a lot of fun with the writing. Weird is good!”
Regarding ‘Speed Funeral’, he adds: “There are songs on our new album that diverge from the ‘Gama Bomb formula’ a lot, so we wanted to lead with ‘Speed Funeral’ because it’s a fun, catchy, classic GB mosher. We’re breaking you in gently with this one!
“The lyrics are about something I’ve always dreamed of – when I die, I want to be strapped to a rocket and blasted off into space as my family and friends watch. We’re middle-aged men now, so maybe death is on our minds a bit more.”
Tracklisting:
1. Prologue Under the Pyramids 2. Egyptron (feat. The Egyptian Lover) 3. Living Dead in Beverly Hills 4. Rusted Gold 5. Materialize 6. Mask of Anarchy 7. Don’t Get Your Hair Cut 8. Dreamstealer 9. Speed Funeral 10. Secular Saw 11. Bats in Your Hair
From the tombs of Egypt to the faded glamour of old Hollywood, Philly, Domo, John, Joe and James (Vader and Decapitated) lead us through new sonic landscapes and all manner of novel adventures on BATS. BATS is an album that could only be borne from Gama Bomb; they have embraced their inner absurdities, they’ve taken a trust fall into each other’s arms, relying on the idiosyncratic glue that has bound them together over the last 21 years to propel them forwards. BATS is the first Gama Bomb album to be entirely produced, mixed and mastered by guitarist Domo Dixon; utilising the remote recording skills picked up during various lockdowns over the past few years, recording for BATS was approached with a deliberately self-sufficient attitude.
Whilst the lyrical content veers into various different directions, the album is tied together with a 1960s-inspired aesthetic as demonstrated via the BATS artwork – serving as a visual tribute to the iconic design trends and pop culture of the 60s. The art was created by the legendary Graham Humphreys, the artist behind iconic posters for A Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead and What We Do In The Shadows, now in his fourth collaboration with Gama Bomb.
John Roche (guitars)comments: “The accompanying artwork and inlay by the lovely Rory McGuigan are based on 1960s exploitation movies in the vein of Russ Meyer and other directors who didn’t want to put their name on their films.” Longtime GAMA BOMB fan and accomplished painter, Kirsty Clark, takes the starring role on the album artwork – welcoming you into the entirely fictional BATS cinematic universe.
Sonically, Gama Bomb manage to stay true to their distinctive thrash sound, honed to perfection over two decades at the frontline of headbanging and fist-pumping. There are nods to heavy metal titans such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, there’s even a sliver of Bad Brains-esque punk attitude, and more familiar influences such as Tankard and Sodom are still evident. But if you think Gama Bomb are serving up something run of the mill then you’ve clearly not accounted for the guest appearance by Irish musician Gavin Kerins or a star-turn from hip hop pioneer The Egyptian Lover who raps on – naturally – ‘Egyptron’.

October 6, 2023 sees Siberian dark folk duo, NYTT LAND – led by shamanic couple Natasha “Baba Yaga” and Anatoly Pakhalenko – release their ninth album epos, entitled Torem, via Napalm Records. Formed in 2013, NYTT LAND is one of the most captivating and haunting acts the dark folk music scene has to offer, and is highly recommended for fans of HEILUNG, WARDRUNA and RUNAHILD.
Torem invites listeners into a mystic world of ancient percussive instrumentation and mesmerizing vocal spheres. The album, sung in old languages Khanty (Siberian Native Tribe) and Old Norse (Old Icelandic), will take you on a sonic experience and journey of the band’s new trilogy, dedicated to the three worlds in the cosmology of their land. NYTT LAND‘s unique sound has always been inspired by the sound of Siberian nature – their musical roots are deeply connected with mythology, historic themes and ancient shamanic culture.
Following their previously-released first single “Nord”, today, the extraordinary duo lends the ravens a voice and premieres a new music video for the track “Huginn ok Muninn“!
The band comments: “This song-spell on Old Norse is about Huginn and Muninn – two ravens endowed with speech.
The role of Huginn and Muninn as messengers of the supreme God is connected with the tradition of shamanic practices and with the general symbolism of the northern peoples, depicting the raven as a source of hidden knowledge.
The lyrics and rhythm of the song are interpreted as the transcendental journey of a shaman who worries about whether he can return from this state.”
Torem was produced, recorded and mixed by NYTT LAND, with mastering by Anatoly Pakhalenko. With intelligent, captivating storytelling, haunting visuals and atmospheric, ambient yet massive melodies encapsulated by unique throat singing, meditative grooves and an otherworldly spirit of mythology and nature, NYTT LAND is about to deliver a surefire highlight of 2023!
Following the previously-released, first album single, “Killing Time” (premiered on Revolver Magazine), and in support of their worldwide signing with AFM Records, hard rock alternative act Reach NYC presents a new song taken off their upcoming, sophomore studio album! Featuring special appearances by Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Kiiara, Sonny & Marcos from P.O.D., Joey Santiago from The Pixies and Sendog from Cypress Hill, Reach NYC‘s forthcoming, long-awaited offering will be released via AFM Records, with more details to be revealed in the weeks ahead.
About their new single, “Ride Or Die” – featuring additional guitars by Marcos Curiel of P.O.D. – Reach NYC frontman, Rene Mata, says: “Ride or Die – is for the people in your life that have your back & you have there’s unconditionally. “No questions ask I got you no matter what.” Musically we drew from our favorite period of music the 90’s. We have so much love for the music in that era. Some of the bands that inspired us are Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains , Jane’s Addiction. We wrote the song with a big musical influence on us and great friend Walter schreifels. His band Quicksand were huge for us. When I was writing the lyrics I had a reading from Theresa Caputo the Long Island medium. She told the person who I was writing the song about knows your writing it. I didn’t tell one person I was writing “ride or die” . If you listen to the podcast you’ll here it in real time. Writing the song was amazing group effort with Nick & Dante coming up with the music on the choruses . New guitarist AJ came up with opening riff with Dante Walter & our producer Cass Dillon . New bassist Tim Robbins came up a beautiful baseline in bridge. The melodies I wanted something simple on verse and explosive on pre chorus & Choruses . The lyrics well they couldn’t be more personal.
Reach NYC was formed on Long Island in 1996. The band was active on the New York scene, frequently rocking infamous haunts like CBGB’s alongside the heavy hitting Papa Roach and System of a Down, and festivals like Vans Warped Tour. Originally named Reach 454, they caught a break when Lava/Atlantic president Jason Flom signed them after a strong performance at a label showcase. The band entered the studio in 2002 with producer Jay Baumgardner (Papa Roach, Evanescence), and emerged in the summer of 2003 with their self-titled debut. The album showcased Reach 454’s dynamic melodic shifts and riff-heavy guitar work. The band fell on hard times in 2004 and took an indefinite hiatus.
Throughout the years, Chester Bennington, one of the closest friends of Reach NYCvocalist Rene Mata, expressed to Rene how important it was for him to keep playing music. The last time Rene and Chester were together in NYC, they hosted a dinner hang with Jacoby, Tobin, and Tony from Papa Roach, Matt Sorum, Marcos of P.O.D., and Rob from Volbeat. While enjoying their dinner, Chester presented the idea of wanting to put together a tour for the following year with Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Deftones, System of a Down, Papa Roach and wanted Reach to open. Disastrously, Chester passed away that same July of 2017, and Rene fell into a dark depression.
In 2019, Reach NYC drummer Dante and Marcos Curiel encouraged Rene to put the band back together and open for P.O.D. in NYC. It was the band’s first show since 2004, and it quickly rekindled their friendship and their love of music. Their love for creating music, as well as the importance of friends and family, renewed their dedication to keep the project going.
On October 9th 2020, Reach NYC returned to the airwaves with a new EP titled, “Back From the Dead”, their first release in 17 years, also featuring Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach. The EP was mixed by Jay Baumgardner and mastered by Howie Weinberg in Los Angeles. The newly titled Reach NYC is featuring Rene Mata on vocals, Dante Renzi on drums, Nick Cavagnaro (guitars, vocals) and more recently adding young guns AJ Chiarella on guitars and vocals as well as bassist Tim Robbins. The band quickly got back to the stage, and returned to the New York scene performing with longtime friends Quicksand at the Bowery, and made an appearance at Danny Wimmer’s historic “Welcome to Rockville” festival in Daytona, FL in 2021. Most recently, Reach NYC signed a new international deal with AFM Records and is currently gearing up for the release of their sophomore album, produced by Cass Dillon, mixed by Josh Wilbur and mastered by Howie Weinberg. The album will featurue special appearances by Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Kiiara, Sonny & Marcos from P.O.D,Joey Santiago from The Pixies & Sendog of Cypress Hill and Powerflo.
Occult rock darlings GREEN LUNG have released a new video for ‘Maxine (Witch Queen)’, the second single from their hotly anticipated new record This Heathen Land, which will be released on November 3rd via Nuclear Blast Records.
Vocalist Tom Templar comments “We’ve celebrated British witchcraft in our lyrics since our first EP, and with this new single we wanted to celebrate the most iconic witch of the modern era – Maxine Sanders. The High Priestess at the heart of Alexandrian Witchcraft, Maxine is an unsung national treasure, and one of the first people to connect genuine witchcraft with rock ‘n roll back in the early Seventies. ‘Maxine (Witch Queen)’ is a love song to Maxine from the perspective of a member of her coven, and melds pounding riffage with psyched-out combo organs and stacked, multi-layered vocal harmonies. We were honoured to have several members of Maxine’s real life coven appear in the music video, and advise on the ritual elements. Ultimately, the song is intended as a celebration of Maxine Sanders, which we hope will introduce new initiates to her life’s work, and help her legend to live on.”
This Heathen Land is the most complete manifestation of the band’s vision to date, fulfilling their long-held goal to, in the words of vocalist Tom Templar, “create the definitive soundtrack to the folk horror film in our heads.” On This Heathen Land, the band have forged a sound and identity that is entirely their own, while maintaining the Sabbathian heaviness and addictive songcraft which made their previous albums so beloved in the metal underground. From the cover art to the vinyl inserts and lyrical themes, This Heathen Land is a painstakingly-researched and executed heavy metal love letter to the folkloric landscape of the UK.
This Heathen Land was produced by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studios and was mixed by Tom Dalgety (Opeth, Clutch, Ghost).

KATAKLYSM’s latest albumGoliath was released via Nuclear Blast Records on August 11th. The band’s 15th studio album was globally lauded by fans and critics, scoring outstanding results in numerous soundchecks and international charts, including #5 in the US-American Current Hard Music Album Charts, #11 in the German Album Charts and #29 in the Swiss Album Charts. Goliath was recorded at JFD Studios in Dallas, TX and Studio City, CA as well as The Cabin in Orlando, FL by J-F Dagenais, who also produced and engineered the album. For the mixing and mastering, the band returned to Chris Clancy with assistance from Colin Richardson. The cover artwork required an image that captured the iconic battle of David versus Goliath theme that is echoed throughout the album while matching the power of the music. The band enlisted renowned Berlin metal illustrator Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE) to create the artwork which took the KATAKLYSM look and gave it a macabre filter that compliments the brooding sense of uneasiness that was felt during the writing and recording of the album.
