British thrash, groove metal-core band STATE OF DECEIT just dropped a new music video and single entitled “Demi-God“. This is the third music video & single taken from their upcoming full-length album Stalked by Daemons which will be released on October 13, 2023 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Tim Hamill (Anterior) at Sonic One Studio, and the music video was directed by Unit 15 Productions.

”This song means a lot to me because I wrote the main riff just after my mother unexpectedly died” says guitarist Jonathan Russell “the theme of people blindly following the pastor to whatever ends is the flaw I see in organized religion. The misinterpretation of text which is thousands of years old and the flock believing they are infallible could be somewhat angering whatever God there is.” Vocalist Pete Scammell adds, “This song was the first we collectively wrote for the new album, and it’s one of my favorite on the record. I love how the chorus has two sides of a story, with the cleans telling one side and the uncleans having a different perspective. I love the riffs Jon wrote in this song, especially how gnarly the riff sounds in the third verse with the alternate style of playing, while coming off the heaviest breakdown we’ve done to date!” Bassist Davide Santini continues “When we recorded the video for this song, we thought there was no better location than a destroyed church… in fact, it was the same day and location as our first video for Stalked by Daemons, Guarded by Angels which made it really a never ending challenge! I bet not many bands plan to record 2 videos in the same day so we are really proud of the result!”

Cover Art by Piere-Alain Durand

The new album by State of Deceit is entitled Stalked by Daemons. Stalked by Daemons delivers the best of all metalcore, thrash, and groove, often in stylistic antithesis that is startling and ultimately satisfying. The intricate rhythm tracks are fascinating mosaics, always evolving in shape and color, and the blistering lead guitar solos paint pictures that leave scars, the aesthetic kind, like treasured ink we pattern into the flesh. The growl vocal is vicious just as the traditional, rich harmonies of the chorus-work are heartfelt and bold. State of Deceit are the epitome of metal at its core, at its roots. Metal artists are often social mysteries, but that is finally beside the point. Sometimes, they start social trends for the sake of leading the pack or demonstrating to us our own ironies, but in the end, all of that is just pomp and circumstance. Rock is about making tile. Rock is about the basement and the garage, and the idea that hard practice can make you a superstar. State of Deceit offer us a distinct, instrumental layering technique as the songs on Stalked by Daemons bring us into their process and into their world brick by brick! The riveting full-length release contains ten brutal songs, and it is scheduled for release on October 13, 2023. The album features artwork by Pierre-Alain D of 3mmi Design.

With a number of successful singles already released, British/Danish rock singer Michael Catton releases his debut solo album “Point Of No Return” on November 10, 2023 on Mighty Music. Catton’s album promises to deliver the energy and flamboyance of the 80’s, with renowned producer and guitarist Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Electric Guitars) bringing a powerful and punchy production to this modern masterpiece of rock.

“This album has been growing inside of me for the past 15 years, since I first got hooked on rock music as a teenager; the energy, the attitude, the bravado – all my influences rolled into a single album. I can’t wait to unleash it,” says Catton. As the frontman of Danish rock band Tainted Lady, Catton became widely recognised as the standout singer of the modern rock scene, being compared to the likes of Steven Tyler, Ian Gillan and Bruce Dickinson. “After Tainted Lady had split, I quickly realised that I had to make my own way as an artist. It was a heart-wrenching experience, but it gave me the space to find my own feet and the opportunity to work with some of the most experienced and talented musicians on the Danish rock scene”.

“Point Of No Return” will be released on, CD LP (black vinyl, limited to 300) and digital formats via Mighty Music on November 10th, 2023. Pre-orders are available here.

“Point Of No Return” tracklist:

1. Faith
2. Livin’ Lovin’
3. Armageddon Again
4. Never Say Goodbye
5. Hearts In Danger
6. Ready For The Takin’
7. Lights Out
8. Gas On The Fire
9. Going Down
10. Brother

Having already collaborated with Catton, producing Tainted Lady’s widely acclaimed albums “How The Mighty Have Fallen” and “Sounds Like Freedom // Feels Like War”, Andersen is guitarist, producer and co-writer on the album. “There aren’t many Michael Cattons out there,” says Andersen. “He’s the whole package, and he knows it. That’s why I got hold of him as soon as I heard that Tainted Lady had split up. We dived straight into the songwriting and quickly had ten bangers ready. We attempted to keep the production as if we had tracked on tape in 1987 – not too many overdubs or Pro Tools tricks; just focusing on the songs, performance and lyrics, and I think it shows. I’m very proud of the result and I’m excited to see the reaction”.

Also co-writer on the album and playing keys is Michael’s brother Chris Catton (Boys From Heaven). “Music is what really brought us together growing up, and this was a fantastic opportunity to finally work on a project together.” The Catton brothers spent countless late nights in the Boys From Heaven frontman’s studio writing and recording demos, before recording the album in full with Andersen in the legendary Medley Studios in the heart of Copenhagen.

“The whole process unfolded while I was touring with my Guilty Pleasures trio consisting of myself, drummer Allan Tschicaja (Pretty Maids) and bassist Michael Gersdorff (Superfuzz)”, says Andersen. “It made perfect sense to record the album with them – there isn’t a rhythm section in all of Denmark that can match Tschicaja and Gersdorff.”

The style of hard rock that Catton embodies has slowly been on the rise in the past few years, and he has already made his mark with album features and live performances with the likes of Steel Panther and glam metal icon Kip Winger. “I was born in the 90’s”, Catton declares. “I grew up after most of my favourite bands released their best material, and rock music has rarely hit those highs since. I wanted to make the album that I myself was longing to hear as a teenager. This is the album that has been missing from the record stores, the songs that have been missing from rock bar playlists, the passion that has been absent in so much music in recent years. With this album, I hope to carry the torch for the next generation of rock”.

Lineup:
Michael Catton – vocals
Soren Andersen – guitar
Chris Catton – keyboards, backing vocals
Michael Gersdorff – bass
Allan Tschicaja – drums

Says the band about the track: “A song about the deceptive appearance of some people who walk around in everyone’s environment. People you thought were your friends, or even lovers, turn out to be fake people, who in the end are responsible for significantly damaging your well-being. Sometimes it helps to write down your experiences and sufferings and to record them in a song in order to process the whole thing.”

The 30th anniversary of a band constitutes a point in time which affords reflecting. Back on a journey that – not unlike the passage from cradle to grave – is marked by both valleys of suffering and heights of ecstasy. KDVRFCKR‘s upcoming album “Superkiller (A Musical Journey Between Life And Death)” is a musical and lyrical manifest that attempts to portray this journey, told in 21 furious, new songs in four chapters.

“Superkiller” was mixed and mastered by Jörg Uken at Soundlodge, and will also feature several guest musician appearances from such as Zagan (Black Messiah), Jens of Slaughterday and many more!

OOMPH! Unveil Anti-War Anthem + Official Music Video ‘Nur ein Mensch’

“We stand face to face
in the name of the nation
brothers kill brothers
war is perversion”

Neue Deutsche Härte pioneers OOMPH! release their anti-war anthem “Nur Ein Mensch” (EN: Only a Human), cut from their new album Richter und Henker, that is out this Friday, September 8, 2023, via Napalm Records! Successor to OOMPH!’s #1 charting 2019 album Ritual (Official German Album Charts), Richter und Henker marks the unit’s 14th full-length, and kicks of a new era as the first album with the new OOMPH! vocalist DER SCHULZ.

New wave influences are present on heavy and groovy “Nur Ein Mensch” – a future hit and strong sign against warmongering and empty slogans that force hatred and war. The new single comes with a striking official music video that supports to the message of the song. Check the video below and prepare for OOMPH!’s European headline tour this November!

OOMPH! on “Nur Ein Mensch”:
“The song is an anti-war song from the point of view of a soldier at the front. He realizes that we are all the same. We all suffer, we mourn, we bleed the same color, and we have nothing at all personally against the people who are facing us. And yet we allow ourselves to be stirred up against each other by power-hungry and conscienceless despots who profit from war, using the same old mechanisms, and led into the field and thus to our doom. We are only cannon fodder. Expendable!”

The band adds about the video:
“The band performance takes place in the video on several levels. In one level we are symbolically illuminated by constantly changing colors of different national flags of the world. Then there’s a visually powerful layer with projections of war scenes behind us, and another layer with wild strobe effects reminiscent of brutal drumfire at night.”

Pre-Order Richter und Henker NOW

OOMPH! on the new album:
“Working together in this new constellation has spurred our creativity in the studio to the extreme. There will be some nice musical developments and surprises on the new album, Richter und Henker, without neglecting our typical OOMPH! constants. Even our usual “test listeners” say the album sounds unmistakably like OOMPH! We can’t wait to finally present the songs to you and play them live on tour!”

Richter und Henker Tracklisting:
1 Wem die Stunde Schlägt
2 Richter und Henker
3 Soll das Liebe Sein?
4 Nur Ein Mensch
5 Schrei nur Schrei
6 Nichts wird mehr Gut
7 Sag Jetzt Einfach Nichts
8 Es ist Nichts, Wie es Scheint
9 Wo die Angst Gewinnt
10 All die Jahre
11 Wut feat. Joachim Witt
12 Ein Kleines Bisschen Glück

Richter und Henker clearly proves that OOMPH! are back stronger than before with their new line up, charging straight forward! Album opener “Wem Die Stunde Schlägt” (en: For Whom The Bell Tolls) makes an immediate statement, propelled by a hefty dose of industrial metal. Title track “Richter und Henker” captivates the listener with a mixture of hooky guitars and chanting vocals, while criticizing ignorant social movements. On “Wut” (Anger), OOMPH! is supported by none other than genre idol Joachim Witt.

Since their formation in 1989, OOMPH! has emerged as a highly influential band that has even inspired later Neue Deutsche Härte giants. With Richter und Henker, the Neue Deutsche Härte masters prove that they remain a leading force in the scene!

PRIMORDIAL Unveil ‘Pilgrimage to the World’s End’ Lyric Video

Dublin, Ireland-based Pagan metal icons PRIMORDIAL today unveil their new single, “Pilgrimage To The World’s End,” and its accompanying lyric video. The track comes by way of the band’s tenth studio album, How It Ends, set for release on September 29th via Metal Blade Records.

Having lasted thirty-two years and now returning with their devastating new studio offering, the Irish band has made it clear they are a primal force who consistently lay it all on the line. The follow-up to 2018’s critically lauded Exile Amongst The Ruins, How It Ends finds PRIMORDIAL delivering more of their seminal blend of Celtic and black metal, with an extra added urgency, and staring down the apocalypse. in a world cluttered with soundalike bands in just about every metal subgenre, PRIMORDIAL offers something real that cannot be denied. Says vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga. “It sounds stupid to say, but it’s not fantasy, not escapism. It’s not compromised and co-opted, it’s genuine, in a world where that seems to count for less and less.”

“The title is a question – ‘is this how it ends?’ How it all goes down: culture, language, history, society – humanity – who knows?,” continues Nemtheanga. “Regardless of who you are or were, you get one chance at all of this, and it’s asking is this the end of your town, state, nation? Myths, traditions, relationships, and I suppose it asks the question, who reacts, who rebels – how does it end now for them?“

Working alongside founding members – bassist Pól MacAmlaigh and guitarist Ciáran MacUilliam – and longtime drummer Simon O’Laoghaire, the band started writing in earnest in the Fall of 2022, having lit a fire under themselves to work hastily and productively. PRIMORDIAL never plans out a record beforehand, letting them come together naturally, though Nemtheanga knew he wanted something with a bigger, more open sound, and something more aggressive, which is exactly what they achieved.

Drawing lyrical influence both from modern and historical ideas, Nemtheanga always gives the listener something to think about, and How It Ends is no different. Latest single, the moody, desperate “Pilgrimage To The World’s End,” was inspired partly by the stories of poor Irish convicts, sent to the world’s end; figures like Ned Kelly who refused to accept the laws oppressing them and “who then rebelled and came to embody, through myth, resistance. This is an album of resistance,” notes Nemtheanga, “‘Pilgrimage To The World’s End’ started out being inspired by the travails of Irish people sent as convicts to Australia, but of course I folded that into a post ‘Coffin Ships’ narrative, poor people boarding boats to try and reach a new world to start over anew, how many went down the boats, endured sickness, death, never reached their destination. Then I began to really consider nthe plight of all people within that 19th century period who by famine, war, poverty tried to seek a new life; the oppressed and the downtrodden. So as PRIMORDIAL always has a historical echo that should resonate with the modern day, we see the same thing, poor people clinging to boats trying to seek a new life, always at the behest of a small economic elite who profit from their ruin. This is the song of the war and famine torn refugee from all countries and nations…“

BLAZE BAYLEY Reveals: “You can expect a new studio album next year”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 5, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: BLAZE BAYLEY, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed former Iron Maiden singer Blaze Bayley. In the chat Bayley talks about his new live album, new studio album and his recent heart attack.

When asked about the new live album
“You got this vibe and energy on ‘Damaged Strange Different and Live’ that just comes from being with the fans that this music is for. On one side it’s songs from the studio album ‘War within Me’ and the other side are those Maiden songs that I like to do that I have changed the arrangements slightly, (just) subtle differences, it’s the Blaze Bayley version of those old songs. These songs just come to life, i enjoyed them before but now. I don’t feel like I am just enjoying them, I feel like I’m bringing to life these old songs over 20 years old. Bringing them to life in a new way, in a different way. And so far all the fans that have seen me do these old songs live have loved it. it just follows that we want to get that on the record and we had them in the set so we managed to record them and make them a party of this album.”

When asked if he is working on a new studio album
“We are getting things together. You can expect a new studio album next year.”

When asked about his heart attack
” I’m at home on Saturday. On Monday, I’m scheduled to go on tour in Europe to continue with ‘The Man Who Would Not Die’ tour. And there I am, and I’ve got chest pains, and I think, Oh, is this indigestion? I’m having a heart attack. I live two minutes from the ambulance station. I’m on the phone, and apparently the paramedics, they were going on their break towards the ambulance station and they said, Oh, we heard that call. It’s on our way. We’ll take that call. Two minutes, they’re in my house. I’ve got wires on my chest. ‘You’re having a heart attack.’ I live in the city, but I’m between four hospitals. In 15 minutes I’m having treatment, and they’re injecting me with dye to see what the problems are and everything. So that’s it. I’m safe. I’m in hospital 15 minutes later. They said, the paramedics, if that had been 10 minutes (later), there’s no way you’d make it. So I was 10 minutes from death. I had a heart attack, not heart failure. They got to me in time. But if I’d have been somewhere else, if I’d have been in Eurotunnel, if I’d have been in a hotel room alone, or on the autobahn in Germany anywhere, man. It’s just terrifying, really, to think about where I could be. And when they said, ‘Oh, you should be able to make it back,’ I said, I’ve gotta get back to work. I can’t leave it like this.’ I’ve done an album called ‘War Within Me’, and I haven’t toured the whole thing. I’m thinking of my fans and everything. I thought, ‘I can’t leave it like this. I’ve still got more music to make. I’ve got things to say, and I don’t wanna feel like I’m letting my fans down either.’ So I was so focused. It took a while, like a few weeks before they could put me in for the surgery. It was a quadruple bypass. Basically, they cut you in half. They cut me in half, they do a load of plumbing and then they put you back together. “

Metal Hall of Fame inductee, Blaze Bayley, releases a brand new live album, featuring versions of songs from his last studio album ‘War Within Me’ and also songs he wrote and/or performed during his time in Iron Maiden (1994-1999).

TRACKLIST

  4. The Power of Nikola Tesla
