HARM’S WAY Share New Single + Video ‘Devour’

Hardcore forerunners HARM’S WAY have released their frenetic new single “Devour” which examines the impact of toxic relationships. The band tell, “‘Devour’ is an expression of self-reflection following the realization that everything that was once there to give has been spent. Led down a path of deception and manipulation, one’s sense of self has been lost along the way. ‘Devour’ is the process of waking up to your isolation, with actions and purpose that are somehow no longer your own. It’s a crossroads that can lead you either the rest of the way down, or back to where whatever’s lost may be found again.“

Listen / Share / Playlist “Devour”

For nearly two decades, Harm’s Way has evolved from whispered underground favorites to favorite sons with an arsenal of songs that helped shape heavy music’s trajectory – creating a roadmap for legions interested in “reinventing” themselves. Harm’s Way has never stayed complacent and constantly morphed shape- absorbing and reapplying influences in new and creative ways to create some of the most well-executed songs in hardcore punk and metal.

And yet, considering the changeling that they and their previous efforts are, Common Suffering is easily the most musically diverse undertaking in their catalog. The album beams with incredibly memorable riffs, breakdowns, and impeccable songwriting. The title is a clear nod to the collective experiences of the past three years of chaos, misanthropy, paranoia, disorder, confusion and anxiety, with the band exploring themes ranging from personal struggles with mental health, relationships, political upheaval, corruption, and political power.

Despite Harm’s Way‘s reputation for unrelenting brutality, Common Suffering surprises at several turns with quieter moments of well thought out songwriting that emphasize light and shade. It’s their understanding of how to effectively orchestrate these dynamics that makes an already ironclad record feel infinitely more merciless. This is Harm’s Way at the top of their game – the ambitious sound of a band traversing new ideas.

The key to the success may be a shift to recording at Studio 4 in Pennsylvania with producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Code Orange). Going into the recording, the goal was to improve some of the band’s processes, examine vocal cadences and experiment during production to gain the best idea from each track. The first change dealt with refocusing members on their specific wheelhouses. While Pligge had previously assisted with riffs, on this effort, his main objective was to ensure the perfect vocal attack- leaning into Yip for advice and letting the remainder of the band take the wheel with their respective parts. The result is each player pushing to the far reaches and creating material that has previously never been colonized by any band, or hardcore writ large, before.

Common Suffering sees its release September 29 across all digital streaming platforms, vinyl and CD formats via Metal Blade Records. See below for variant options and to pre-order.

Today Harm’s Way have also announced a month long North American tour which kicks off October 18 in the Midwest and routes them through Texas, both coasts and more. Fleshwater, Ingrown  and Jivebomb are set as support. See below for a full list of dates.

EVILE Unleash ‘Monolith’ Lyric Video, New Album Out Now

Following the release of their new album, The Unknown (released on July 14, 2023 via Napalm Records), English metal frontrunners EVILE have shared a lyric video for the heavy as hell new single “Monolith”!

“Our 4th single from The Unknown is the juggernaut called ‘Monolith’,” EVILE frontman OL Drake comments. “This song started after Adam sent over the main riff and we got to work on building on it. Our aim was for something menacing and dark, and this might be a contender for my favourite track on the album. The song itself is based on a recurring nightmare I used to have when I was young. I had it for months on end and it always featured this monolith presence with eyes at its base. I would be terrified to go to sleep in case I have it again. Enjoy the chug!”

With their sixth studio album, the band ultimately proves that they are more than just a thrash band, churning out slower tempos with a heavier approach. In addition, melodic vocals meet serious, in-depth lyrical topics. The Unknown sees EVILE more profound, personal and deep, while also proving heavier, stronger and more raucous than ever. Tracks such as previously-released singles “The Unknown” showcase the band’s haunting elements, balancing a dark, melodic and almost mesmerizing vibe with colossal, heavy riffage and thundering drums. While “When Mortal Coils Shed“ doubles down on the stirring, “new” side of EVILE, explosive songs such as “Reap What You Sow” and premiering today, “Monolith”, leave nothing but a hammering world of sound building up to a stomping thrash manifesto! The Unknown unchains the rampant songwriting talent of these British thrash metal frontrunners, proving that thrash does not always have to be fast-paced. It can also be in-your-face with outstanding musical skill, without fear of showing a still unknown facet of lyrical depth and an enthralling, versatile, brave modern metal sound.

About the new album direction, OL Drake recently revealed:

“We’ve taken a completely different approach on this album and I looked inward for inspiration; I’ve opened myself up like I never thought I would. We’ve always been at 500mph, like on the previous album (Hell Unleashed) and this time around we felt we wanted to try the polar opposite – some slower-than-we’ve-ever-done tempos with more melodic vocal hooks, and give Adam some freedom on the leads/writing. I’ve been working on my vocals since diving in the deep end in 2021, and we’ve worked hard for 2 years on this, so I’m excited for everyone to hear the fruits of our labour. We’re really proud of what we’ve all accomplished with this album.“

The Unknown was recorded by Tim Vincent at Longwave Studios in Cardiff, UK, and was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Clancy at the same Longwave Studios. Out now on Napalm Records, make sure to grab your album copy HERE!

The Unknown track listing:

  1. The Unknown

Psychedelic doomers WEIRD TALES have released their new single and video ‘Krokodil Blues’.

The final single is about drugs, and specifically – opiates. As Lemmy once said: “Heroine must be wonderful, cause lots of my friends died for it”. Can you imagine having your arm and leg rotting and falling off, and the only thing you can think of is another dose of the poison that’s responsible for it? Listen to Lemmy kids – don’t touch that shit! Do speed instead!

Watch the official video here.

Lyrics:

Listen!
We are the ones who use
Dazed and confused
Purgatory of the living fast
All the things you know are already past
And it’s hard to explain
And you have to obey
When the drugs talk to you
They leave no choice I’m warning you`

Listen!
Flesh rotten down to the bone
Cut it or you’ll be gone
Vein is running away
Another shot, another day…
Should I have to explain
This shit drives me insane
When the God talks to you
There is no choice I’m warning you

Listen!

This autumn the Norwegian hard rockers CONCEPTION are coming home in double sense. After a successful European tour, and just two weeks after the news of Conception playing Central Scene October 14th in Elverum, Roy Khan’s town of birth, the band presents a show at famous rock venue Byscenen in Trondheim.

Tore Østby on playing in Trondheim for the first time since 1997:

-”Trondheim has always been a special city to me. I was born and spent my two first years there. The city was the hard rock capital of Norway when I grew up with bands like TNT, that had a great impact on me and the band! It was such a blast playing Trondheim back in the nineties. A lot has happened since then and we are very excited to finally be back on stage and to share a new live experience!”

After Trondheim and Elverum they will play Horns Up Metal Cruise between Oslo and Copenhagen November 3rd. First the band look forward to host the Conception Viking Camp that they will hold with fans September 22-24th in the old Viking Capital Birka in lake Mälaren outside Stockholm.

Conception is known for melodic and rhythmic music in a unique, powerful, yet dynamic blend with such various influences as flamenco, jazz, modern electronica and classical music.
