Pirate Metallers CALICO JACK Release Video for ‘Queen Anne’s Revenge’, New Album Out June 30th

Named after the nickname for Captain John Rackham, the English pirate captain who operated in the Bahamas and in Cuba during the early 18th century, CALICO JACK was founded in 2011 by the brothers Toto(rhythm guitar) and Caps (drums) with the aim of merging legendary 80s heavy metal with modern Scandinavian folk metal, wrapping everything in a maritime atmosphere, inspired by folk songs and sea shanties of the Anglo-Saxon tradition. They make sure they present a flashback to those times with stage scenery and costumes.

“If you play pirate metal, you can’t help but fill the stage with bandanas, chests, skulls, cutlasses, and pistols. We are arranging to bring real parrots and cannonballs on stage, but we are meeting some resistance from animal welfare and pacifist associations… Aesthetics aside, our live shows are notorious for creating absolute chaos above and below the stage, so it is not advisable to attend one of our concerts if you are looking for meditative and intellectual listening. We also hold the record of never having played sober since the beginning of our career, and we offer unlimited drinks to any fan who asks!” adds the band.

In 2013, they released the debut EP “Panic In The Harbour”, and first self-titled full-length in 2019. Now signing with Rockshots Records, the band will be rum running their sophomore album “Isla de la Muerte” out on June 30th, 2023.

For this new record, the band kept the style of their debut album but improved every aspect of their music. “Isla de la Muerte” is much more aggressive, the songs are heavier, more dynamic, and more powerful than past ones. The fiddle tunes on the release are more epic and refined, and there’s no shortage of some of Calico Jack‘s trademarks such as the Caribbean sounds in ‘Antigua’. The band also added important elements such as a track of pure classic heavy metal Running Wild-style (‘Bad Fortune’) and a journey through the eastern sounds of the Indian Ocean in the final suite ‘Sandokan’.

Today, Calico Jack shares their second single from the treasure chest. Entitled “Queen Anne’s Revenge”, the song tells the story of the most feared vessel of all time, the infamous Queen Anne’s Revenge of Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. Through fast-paced, dark-toned folk metal, it tells how this legendary vessel is viewed with dread and is considered almost a supernatural menace, after all, its captain was considered by his opponents to be a real devil on earth.

“‘Queen Anne’s Revenge’ is one of the first songs we wrote for ‘Isla de la Muerte’, completed already a few years ago, and we played it live several times getting great feedback. It is perhaps the track most similar to the style of our first album, with a dark and evil atmosphere that pays homage to the style of Finntroll more than in the other tracks. On the cursed melody of the refrain, Giò, our captain, narrates the terror that Queen Anne’s Revenge, Blackbeard’s legendary ship, arouses in all those who only hear of her. In the lyric video accompanying the single, some of the most famous maritime artwork from the 1700s and 1800s is shown, with dark and belligerent scenes depicted.”

Due to fan demand, THE ANSWER are thrilled to announce the re-release of their epic 2006 track Keep Believin’ (2023). The track which has been the opening number on the band’s highly acclaimed recent Sundowners tour, has been conspicuously missing from streaming platforms for a number of years now but that will be put to rights on Jun 23rd this year with the new re-release. German pioneers of industrial metal, MEGAHERZ, return to tear down walls with their full-length studio album, In Teufels Namen (eng. In the Devil’s Name), set to be released on August 11, 2023 via Napalm Records! Three decades into their career, MEGAHERZ (have undoubtedly become one of the most important bands) the Co-Founders of Neue Deutsche Härte, which they proved with their critically acclaimed 2018 full-length, Komet – storming charts and peaking at #7 in Germany.

On their new release, In Teufels Namen, MEGAHERZ raise their voice again and direct their gaze to where it hurts – criticizing conspiracy theories, religion and society as a whole, but also facing inner struggles and pain. The brand new single “Alles Arschlöcher”(EN: “All Assholes”) shows off hard hitting guitars, catchy synth-melodies, electronic influences and strong lyrics – criticizing the worst of society in trademark MEGAHERZ style. On “Der König Der Dummen” (EN: “The King Of The Fools”), one of the heaviest songs on the record, the quintet doesn’t mince words once again, commenting on conspiracy theorists in their tinfoil hats. The hypnotizing track “Amnesie” (EN: “Amnesia”) is heavily built on electronic-inspired beats and melodies, while chanting anthem of the free spirited, “Freigeist”, features catchy synths and a sing-along chorus. On tracks like “Rabenherz” (EN: “Raven Heart”) and “Engelsgesicht” (EN: “Angel face”), the band show an emotional facet, while the second is a reminiscent of the band’s all-time hit “Miststück” (EN: “Bitch”). “Menschenhasser” is a powerful, fast Neue Deutsche Härte track that eases into the breather “Ich Hasse (Epilog)” (EN: “I Hate (Epilogue)”), featuring emotional keys, before the empowering “Auf dem Weg zur Sonne” (EN: “On My Way To The Sun”) showcases their vulnerable side before closing the album. German heavy metal force, VELVET VIPER, has revealed the details about their forthcoming, sixth studio album entitled Nothing Compares To Metal. The album will be released on July 21, 2023 as a CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats via Massacre Records, the pre-sale is now available at THIS LOCATION!

Nothing Compares To Metal is a continuation of VELVET VIPER‘s concept with lyrics about classical, poetic and mythical themes. Just like on the first three albums of the band’s new era, Jutta Weinhold and Holger Marx have composed all the songs together.

VELVET VIPER creates music that reflects the band’s mentality and creative freedom, in a world that need originals, not copies. The band has chosen a natural old-school sound with only some little sprinkles of keyboard here and there, but as first single proves, they have captured their authentic live sound. Since VELVET VIPER has toured and recorded with an unchanged lineup for several years now, they nailed their style of music with crushing beats and great melodies. “While thinking about the state of our society I came to the text of “Invisible Danger”,” Jutta reveals.

“An invisible danger hovers over the earth like a sword of Damocles. It is omnipresent, be it climate change, be it the danger of epidemics, be it the creeping loss of democracy. Inhibitions are falling, leaving behind brutality, murder, violence. We should be aware that when things change, it is not always for the better. We must be attentive to what we cannot see.

The lyrics are the basis of the music and the drama is the basis of both. Together it is possible to touch people and make them receptive to what is not shrill and superficial. Invisible dangers are around us but we are aware of them, and we can act against them. Let’s be wary of hate, because weapons are already around every corner.”

Holger adds: “In the verses drums and bass are in focus and create an original soundscape, the chorus features a power metal banger in the style of the first Velvet Viper’s album from 1990.”

Nothing Compares To Metal was mixed and mastered by Michael Ehré at B-Castle Studio. All songs on the new album are about 5, 6 or 7 minutes long, because according to the band, the songs need enough space to evolve with its different parts and complex structuring to create the drama VELVET VIPER want their music to convey.

On June 30th GODZ OF ROCK, a powerful band of well-known rock musicians, will headline IntenCity Festival at the Oblemenco Stadium in Craiova, Romania.

This amazing line-up features Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio), Phil X (Bon Jovi), Gilby Clarke (Guns n’ Roses), Teddy ‘Zig Zag’ Andreadis (Guns n’ Roses, Alice Cooper), Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake, Nightranger), Jeff Scott Soto (Y. Malmsteen, Journey), Chuck Wright (Quiet Riot, Montrose, Alice Cooper), Neil Turbin (Anthrax), Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens (Judas Priest) and Herma Sick (Venus 5, Sick n Beautiful), alongside with Craiova Romanian Opera Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Frey, a pupil of the great Leonard Bernstein and who has already collaborated with Kee Marcello in the past for his ‘The Final Countdown Rhapsody’.

GODZ OF ROCK is a special project conceived by the Italian rocker Chris Catena and created especially for the IntenCity Festival, which debuts for the first time on stage for a memorable symphonic rock show, together with the Orchestra of the Romanian Opera of Craiova.
