Prika Amaral: “New Nervosa Album to Include Two Guests”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 23, 2023

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to Nervosa guitarist, vocalist and founder Prika Amaral about the bands upcoming shows, new studio album and taking on the lead vocals. Watch the interview below.

When asked about handling all the lead vocals moving forward in Nervosa
“I did not want to change the singers again (they parted ways with the last singer) in Nervosa and changing again the band’s singer would kill the band so I said, I will do it. Changing a singer is really hard, it’s the voice of the band. So I said this was not something I was planning to do but it’s time for me to do it. I had to learn how to sing basically in a few months. I was already doing back- vocals before but to be a (lead) singer is totally different.  So I had some classes with a friend of mine just to teach me how to do it with good technique. Then when we started to record the album our producer was riding me and this helped me a lot  but I’m still learning.”

When asked about the musical direction of the new studio album
“The album is finished and it will be out in September 2023. Our plan is to start promoting the new album in August and we have a plan for 3 or 4  video clips/singles. With the new album we are trying to make this musical style more different, with an instrumental. We will have super thrash songs, groove metal and mixing it up with styles.”

When asked if they have any guests on the new album
“We have two guests on this album. One is singing with me, ,I can say it’s a woman. The second guest (man) is an amazing guitarist that did one solo on one of our songs. He is one of my biggest influences. “

NO ONE CARES Unveil Lyric Video for First Single ‘Phoenix’

Italian modern metallers NO ONE CARES will release their new EP “Pause/Reboot” at the end of June via Quarock Records. Today the band unveils the lyric video for the first single “Phoenix”. Watch it below.

“Pause/Reboot” represents a true rebirth for NO ONE CARES. Several line-up changes and the pandemic forced the band to take a break, despite the endless desire to create, produce and look ahead. But the time has finally come to rise up again like a phoenix, and the “Pause/Reboot” EP stands for this.

Elaborating new sounds and focusing on new writing and arrangement dynamics under the supervision and artistic production of Gabriele Bellini, they produced an EP which is a kind of new discovery for NO ONE CARES. The album was edited, mixed and mastered by Giacomo “Jac” Salani at La Fucina Studio in Florence, Italy.

The band states: “The songs on ‘Pause/Reboot’ are a mix of emotions, feelings and moods which we experience every day. From the feeling of emptiness and a sense of the unknown in ‘Empty Hole’, to the frightening and disturbing thoughts of ‘Scary Thoughts’, from the negativity which spreads like a cancer in ‘Negativity’, to the desire for rebirth and feeling alive in ‘Phoenix’, concluding with the post-abandonment depression of ‘Beautiful Sadness’. The intense and aggressive sounds, the energetic and massive rhythms, the search for personal dynamics in each track, fully reflect the energy, intensity and power in expressing our emotional side”.

NO ONE CARES was born in 2012 playing a powerful and personal mix of nu metal and metalcore, in a surprising combination of Crossover Metal. The band from Tuscany made their debut in 2014, with two of their own unreleased tracks for the compilation “Underworld Collection – Invasion” (QuaRock Records), and the following year they released their first album “Dirty”, an explosive record which confirmed N.O.C. as one the best new Italian acts in crossover metal, gaining excellent critical acclaim especially thanks to their live shows.

Track listing:
1 – Scary Thoughts
2 – Empty Hole
3 – Phoenix
4 – Negativity
5 – Beautiful Sadness (intro)
6 – Beautiful Sadness

NO ONE CARES are:
ANDREA GORINI – guitars
ELENA GIRALDI – drums
MASSIMO CIACCIA – bass
TOMMASO PESCAGLINI – vocals

GÅTE Release Epic Double-Single ‘Svarteboka’ Ft. DJERV

After a successful venture into an acoustic soundscape with their critically acclaimed album Nord, GÅTE now return to the full-blown folk-rock they are known for. The return to their full-scale soundscape is marked with no less than two brand new songs. The different, but also complementary singles ‘Svarteboka’ and ‘Skarvane’ are released today, May 23rd.

With these releases, Gåte delivers catchy, convincing and magnetic folk, which lures the listener in and drags you into a seductive soundscape where folk music plays on rock’s premises.

On Svarteboka, Gåte are joined by labelmates Djerv.

The result is an epic meeting between Norway’s two most iconic female metal and rock vocalists – Gunnhild Sundli and Agnete Kjølsrud.

Listen to the singles here: https://orcd.co/svarteboka

Together, they have created nothing less than a monumental song where two of the true vanguards of the scene are given free space to challenge each other.

As two of the strongest Norwegian female vocalists of our generation, Gunnhild and Agnete have known of and admired each other for a long time. When they finally met at a wedding in 2022, the idea of a future collaboration manifested immediately.

Already in the early winter of 2023, Gåte sent a draft to Djerv, who jumped on the chance to contribute. From that point on things developed fast.

Even though Agnete and Gunnhild were located on opposite sides of the country, working on the song together came very naturally for the two of them who soon figured out how the material could be further developed and adapted to each of their unique vocals.

Being a female front vocalist for a metal/rock band is sadly still something of an exception in 2023 and both Gunnhild and Agnete have felt a sense of alienation and isolation, of standing out in the crowd – on Svarteboka they stand together.

Compared to Svarteboka, Skarvane is something quite different, but still unmistakably a Gåte track.
Here, Gåte has granted themselves even more freedom to experiment with genre and sound, and has made a song that challenges both the folk rock scene and Gåte’s audience.

As a band, Gåte has always represented a breaking point between the traditional and the modern, a meeting place between past and present. This also requires a curiosity and a willingness to push yourself to explore new soundscapes and play around with elements from other genres.

This is eagerness to explore and push boundaries is evident on Skarvane, where Gåte exhibits new sides of themselves, and daringly implement and toy around with new sonic elements.

As such, Skarvane is not only a sign of what Gåte can accomplish, but also an indication of what we might expect in the future.

GÅTE:
Gåte had a national breakthrough in the early 2000 with their captivating performances and groundbreaking mix of traditional folk and modern rock.
With an immense respect for folk music and unparalleled talent, Gåte managed to interpret and convey traditional folk songs to a whole new generation of listeners.

The band continues to find inspiration in the vast traditional music history both Norway and Europe have to offer. The result is painstakingly beautiful and emotive collection of songs delving deep into the musical past, with a contemporary approach.

DJERV:
Djerv entered the international metal-scene with a blast in 2011 with an impressive, self-titled album engineered by Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames) and mixed by Matt Hyde (Deftones, No Doubt)
Djerv quickly established themselves as a name in the scene performing at festivals like Hellfest (FR), Wacken (DE), Eurosonic (NL), Tons of Rock (NO) Rock Hartz (DE) and Inferno (NO).
The band has contributed on memorable collaborations like Dimmu Borgir’s “Gateways”, and the track “Get Jinxed”, which was released through League of Legends/Riot games.

SOLSTEIN Release First Single ‘Hamada’ from Upcoming Album

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SOLSTEIN. Leave a comment

With SOLSTEIN‘s self-titled debut full-length album due out on the 7th July, Is it Jazz? Records have today released a single that  gives fans a taste of what they can  expect from multi-instrumentalist Jacob Holm-Lupo’s new project.

Titled “Hamada”, the track features SOLSTEIN’s core lineup of  Stian Larsen (MARTE EBERSON, SMITH KOMMA JOHN) on lead guitar, Keith Carlock (STEELY DAN, TOTO) on drums and Jacob Holm-Lupo (WHITE WILLOW, THE OPIUM CARTEL) on bass, rhythm guitars and keyboards. Joining them on “Hamada” are American synth wizard Bill Bressler on lead synth and Fender Rhodes, Martin Windstad (KURT NILSEN, BIGBANG, ANE BRUN) on percussion, and INA A who provides some wordless vocal harmonies.

The name “Hamada” is partly  inspired by plane trips over the breathtaking landscape  of the Eilat Desert. On the Eastern side you can see the red rocks of Jordan, whilst the high plains desert landscape of the Hamada of the Eilat Desert are directly beneath you, and the endless deserts of the Sinai are to your West.

“Hamada” can be downloaded or streamed from a number of services at https://link.isitjazzrecords.no/Solstein_Hamada

SOLSTEIN was formed after Holm-Lupo and Carlock had collaborated with legendary guitarist Georg Wadenius on a track for Holm-Lupo’s DONNER project. Finding that together they jelled, the duo decided to expand the lineup with the addition of Larsen and keyboardist Brynjar Dambo (WHITE WILLOW).

Inspired by jazz-rock, funk, prog rock and chill-out, SOLSTEIN’s  is an  instrumental form of rock, where jazz harmony combines with proggy arrangements and soul/funk grooves. The end result is laid back and  elegant, oscillating between funky fusion and rock, where all the musicians involved are given free rein to do whatever they feel the music needs and feels right to everyone.

The album itself is accessible yet adventurous, colourful, groovy and engaging. It melds  the groovier side of fusion with elements of prog and funk, but which, rather than having the standard 2020s fusion sound, tends more towards the funkier, more melodic spectrum that brings artists like THE CRUSADERS, IDRIS MUHAMMED, early BOB JAMES and 70s HERBIE HANCOCK to mind.

“Solstein” will be available in CD, Digital and LPC formats and can now be pre-ordered from:

Bandcamp: https://solstein.bandcamp.com/album/solstein
Is it Jazz Records: Webshop: https://isitjazzrecords.no/
Karisma Records Webshop: https://www.karismarecords.no/shop/

“Solstein”  was mixed and given pristine analogue mastering at Holm-Lupo’s Dude Ranch Studio, and with artwork by Martina Wilek, track listing is as follows:

  1. Intersection
  2. Oriental Folk Song
  3. Southwester
  4. The Night Owl
  5. Siriusly
  6. February 9th
  7. The Creeper
  8. Hamada

For those curious as to where the name  SOLSTEIN comes from, the word actually means Sunstone, and it refers to  a relatively rare rock containing copper-red crystals, which, when seen from different angles refracts the light in a very beautiful way. The most significant deposits of the rock are found along the southern coast of Norway where Holm-Lupo lives and runs his studio.

More  information about SOLSTEIN can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/solsteinband

ATLASES Release Third Single/ Lyric Video ‘Save Room’ from Forthcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 23, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Atlases. Leave a comment

Finnish modern post-metal outfit ATLASES released the third and final pre-release single ‘Save Room’, accompanied with an eye-burning lyric video by the band’s own Jerkka Perälä. Watch the lyric video below.

The fact that ATLASES from Finland sound different has its reasons. Besides the “normal instrumentation” of a metal band, the musicians from Pori also work with electronic drum pads and keyboards. Both are not just additional accessories, but an integral part of the musical self-image of this Nordic group. In addition, there is the creative demand to go further aesthetically and sonically than is usual in modern post-metal. In the cinematic soundscapes ATLASES are creating you can lose yourself completely.

The third album “Between The Day & I”, out June 2nd, pushes this approach to the extreme. The dualism of beautiful, atmospheric euphony and abrupt brute force works fantastically and provides lasting impressions. The sextet from Pori sets tension arcs time and again, which lead deeper and deeper into a maelstrom of rapture, melancholy and emotional discharge. On the follow-up to their 2020 LIFEFORCE RECORDS debut, “Woe Portrait”, ATLASES present themselves as resourceful songwriters who cultivate powerful contrasts beyond the usual conventions of post-metal and thus stand out. With “Between The Day & I”, the Finns prove that modern post-metal can still be developed further, if the right attitude and the necessary daring meet forward-thinking creativity and an elevated level of ambition.

The fact that the cover motif of the new ATLASES album evokes associations in the direction of the MASTODON classic “Remission” or “White Pony” of the mighty DEFTONES is a coincidence, but on closer reflection it fits pretty well.
