TORONTO IS BROKEN Releases Brutal New Single ‘Breed’ Feat. Reebz

TORONTO IS BROKEN teams up once more with REEBZ for the turbulent Nu-Metal-infused Drum & Bass Single “Breed.” Featuring a brutal vocal performance from REEBZ, “Breed” ventures deeper into rock territory. The track sports a decidedly malevolent atmosphere as it explores themes of mental illness as seen from the inside out as featured in the lyrics. With the track the pair also dropped the official music video that perfectly illustrates the themes in black and white macabre fashion that are found in the single.

“Breed” also features a brutal, pulse-hammering guitar performance and production work from George Lever layered with turbulent rhythms from start to finish. The single is another stunning example of Toronto Is Broken‘s skills at fusing genres into something complex, new, and uniquely his own.

Christian Hoffmann, better known as Toronto Is Broken, is a British DJ and producer based in Leicestershire. Christian Hoffmann’s initial venture into the world of music started out with a guitar whilst at school, and after various attempts to attract bands with his passion, he went on a solo mission to produce electronic music inspired by Enter Shikari’s first album Take to the Skies. Several years of work and perseverance later, Christian went on to be picked up by the UK bass label Sub Slayers, run by former Kiss FM and RAM Records president Jay Cunning. His first release The Move It EP received high praise and featured “Spirit Song 2012”, played by everyone from Paul Oakenfold to Sub Focus. “Spirit Song 2012” was also used as the main piece in the Arcadia Spectacular show at festivals all over the world.

REEBZ, possibly reptilian, is definitely weird. REEBZ is the new creepy kid on the electronic block. Somewhere between alien and human REEBZ is a fiery new act to watch.

DALI VAN GOGH, the hard-hitting rock band from Nova Scotia, made a big splash at this year’s East Coast Music Awards. The band won the coveted Loud Recording of the Year award, a breakout moment for a group that has been pursuing an ECMA nomination for nearly a decade.

Not content with just one nomination, Dali Van Gogh was also up for Rock Recording of the Year, narrowly losing out to The Trews. But the band’s success didn’t stop there. They had three huge showcases during the festival, including a sold-out performance on the Loud Stage, and a thrilling collaborative set with Keke Beatz on the Breakout Stage.

“We’re over the moon about winning Loud Recording of the Year,” said Isaac Kent, Dali Van Gogh’s guitarist and founder. “It’s been a long journey, but this award makes it all worth it. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing fans, who have supported us every step of the way.”

The East Coast Music Awards are a hotbed for emerging talent, and Dali Van Gogh’s win is a testament to their incredible musicianship and dedication. Their latest record, “New Blood, Old Wounds”, released to critical acclaim in 2022, and is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey for the band.

With the East Coast Music Awards behind them, Dali Van Gogh is now gearing up for a Canadian tour, with the first leg kicking off this June including a showcase at NXNE in Toronto and three shows with multi-platinum artist Buckcherry. Dali Van Gogh promises to bring their electrifying live show to fans across the country.

About Dali Van Gogh:

Finnish post-metal solo project RECOLLECTION has released a new single, “The Unfolding Shadow of Time’s Visage.” With its mesmerizing soundscapes and thought-provoking lyrical depth, the song attempts to lure the listener to a world of introspection.

“The Unfolding Shadow of Time’s Visage” explores the concept of how the marks of time can enhance the beauty of our surroundings – akin to the allure of patina. The song’s ethereal melodies, intricate instrumentation and usage of droning noise invite the listener on a journey that transcends the boundaries of traditional metal, immersing them in a world where beauty and decay are intertwined.

The single was digitally released through Savo-Karelian Productions. Watch the lyric video below.

Prog Legends GENTLE GIANT Release Single ‘Interview’, Album (Steven Wilson Remix) Out on June 16th

Prog Legends GENTLE GIANT’s “Interview” Steven Wilson Remix is set to be released on CD, 5.1 Blu-ray and 180g Vinyl June 16, 2023.

“Interview” was the eighth studio recorded album of Gentle Giant and was released April 23rd 1976. The line up on the album is Derek Shulman, Ray Shulman, Gary Green, Kerry Minnear and John Weathers. The album also has the participation of ‘Sounds’ writer Phil Sutcliffe as the ‘interviewer’.

The band had completed a year of non stop touring throughout Europe and North America promoting the highly successful “Free Hand” album. Despite having no real down time the band felt inclined to write and record the follow up to “Free Hand” without having any time to reflect on its success. This may have influenced both the direction and attitude of the album, hence its somewhat cynical concept.

The band recorded the album in its favored Advision Studios where in addition to the usual stereo version the album was also mixed in 4-channel quadraphonic sound. It poked a little satirical fun at the state of the music industry and dissected the way a group’s relationship with the rock press could either help or hinder their career. Stylistically it continued in the vein of their preceding seventh studio album, “Free Hand” released in the year before, in 1975.

Featuring a spoken cameo from Sounds writer Phil Sutcliffe, the shape-shifting funk-rock of the title track “Interview” lampooned clichéd rock ‘n’ roll journalism, while the snappy “Another Show” painted a vivid portrait of life on the road, redolent of The Kinks’ “Here Comes Yet Another Day.”

Elsewhere, “Interview” further displayed the eclectic and versatile nature of the band, from the 5/4 reggae influenced groove of “Give It Back” to the ethereal “Design” which featured a cappella vocal passages combined with a furious percussion section. “Timing” lived up to its name, a complex rocker with stop start dynamics driven by Ray Shulman’s biting electric violin. The album closed breathlessly with the epic seven-minute suite “I Lost My Head”, its deceptively delicate opening majestically transforming into one of Giant’s most unstoppable and relentless riffs. All in all an “Interview” well worth attending.

Award winning producer and musician Steven Wilson has remixed “Interview” in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound. The Porcupine Tree guitarist has long been a fan of the band, noting them as a primary influence on his own work. Wilson’s painstaking attention to detail, deep respect for the source material and keen tonal range make the album sound as fresh today as it did on first release. In addition to the 2023 remixes, the original 1976 stereo mix, original 1976 quad mix, instrumental mixes, and custom visuals for each track are all included in the CD/Blu-ray version.

A limited blue colored vinyl album of the Steven Wilson remix version of “Interview” will also be available.

The worldwide release date for this classic Gentle Giant release is June 16th 2023.

“Interview” will be available to pre-order on CD, CD and 5.1 Blu-ray Digipak as well as a limited edition 180g sky blue variant LP. Also available on 180g regular black vinyl (not limited).

Irish Thrashers UNMAKER Unleash Debut Album “Limb From Limb”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 14, 2023

Conjuring up influences from the early Bay Area Thrash explosion with a peppering of German aggression from the likes of Kreator/Sodom, Dublin City’s UNMAKER are flying the flag for old school, brutal, fast Thrash Metal, with their new album ‘Limb From Limb’.

Album order link here.

Formed in the Irish capital back in late 2019/early 2021, Unmaker’s sound is raw, unbridled and in your face. Taking inspiration from ruggedness of early Slayer, Possessed and Sepultura, and applying it to a tornado of speed, groove and aggression, the bands’ impact on the thriving Irish underground scene was welcomed with immediate acclaim.

Using the downtime of the pandemic, the band began writing and recording their debut, ‘Limb from Limb’ – ferocious collection of eight exhilarating tracks that are designed to cause mayhem in your local pit.

Speaking of the new single, vocalist, Aaron Gilbert says: “As the song that defined Unmaker’s MO, it seemed fitting to have “Limb From Limb” released as a single right before the album drops, as a sign of things to come. It also marks the band’s debut music video release.

The track has a heavy emphasis on heft. In a word, you could say it is “violent”. It is the culmination of all your built-up anxiety and trauma, until the lid can no longer sustain the pot, and the cap is blown off in a fit of rage. The guitar work on this track explores different genres such as thrash, and death metal. There is also an emphasis on bass, to make the track hit as hard as possible.”

With the album release on May 12th, Unmaker will be celebrating on a short run of dates with US Heavy Metal force, Night Demon for their scheduled Irish dates in Belfast and Dublin.

‘Limb From Limb‘ track listing:
To War!
Drop Dead
Limb From Limb
Control
Point Break
Rise
False Disciple
Breathe

The cover artwork for the album was created by Very Metal Art.
