NIGHTHAWK’s New Album “Prowler” Released

The weekend is still a brilliant prospect and the tiredness suddenly transforms into an energetic urge to have fun, to go on the prowl, to just LIVE. That’s when NIGHTHAWK’s perfect blend of classic AOR and world-class hard rock kicks in best. Unapologetic, in-your-face and brilliant-as-fuck. “Prowler”, their new album, delivers exactly what it promises: first-class rock’n’roll.

Then again, this band has the right pedigree to deliver the goods. Nighthawk started out as a solo project by Robert Majd (bass player in Metalite & Captain Black Beard). The idea was just to have some fun, play guitar and write some energetic rock’n’roll. The debut album featured a bunch of different singers. After that first album release in the summer of 2021, Robert got an itch to do more.

This time the stakes would be higher. With the world-famous Abbey Road Studios booked, a band and a collection of songs needed to match the caliber of the studio. Björn Strid (The Night Flight Orchestra, Soilwork & Donna Cannone) joined on lead vocals, Magnus Ulfstedt (Ginevra) on drums, John Lönnmyr (The Night Flight Orchestra) on keyboards and Christan Ek (Captain Black Beard) on bass. Nine original tunes together with two covers (of Kiss and Bruce Springsteen classics!) were recorded live in the studio in just two days.

So, fasten your seatbelts. “Prowler” is out today on LP (black vinyl, limited to 500 copies), CD and digital formats via Mighty Music. Orders are available here.

“Prowler” tracklist:

1. Highest Score
2. Running Wild
3. Action
4. Flame Still Burns
5. Free Your Mind
6. God Of Thunder
7. Strike Like Lightning
8. Cover Me
9. Burn The Night
10. Playing The Game
11. See You Again

Line-up:
Robert Majd – guitar
Björn Strid – vocals
Magnus Ulfstedt – drums
John Lönnmyr – keyboards
Christian Ek – bass/backing vocals

NOCTURNAL BREED Reveal New Video + Single ‘Knights of Denim’ from Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 13, 2023

Norway’s thrash metal veterans NOCTURNAL BREED are a band that has never been afraid to show its influences and wears them proudly on its sleeves, and never more so than in the track “Knights of Denim” which Dark Essence Records has chosen to release as a single from the upcoming album “Carry the Beast”.

“Knights of Denim” hits you right out of the gate, its devastating riff transporting the listener back to the glorious heyday of British Heavy Metal. Galloping Iron Maiden riffs, melodic dual guitar solos and thundering drums merge with a delicate synth work that enhances that 80’s heavy metal feeling.

Layered into the mix, and delivered with true passion and feeling, are Destroyer’s snarled, aggressive vocals, and what you get is a NOCTURNAL BREED track “par excellence” which can be streamed or downloaded from a variety of services at this location.

Accompanying the “Knights of Denim” single is a lyric video by Temira de Temirin that acts as the perfect foil for the track, and which can be seen below.

With Front Cover & Logo Adaption by Andrej ‘Maggot Meister’ Bartulovic & All Things Rotten., track listing for “Carry the Beast” is as follows:

1.      Carry the Beast
2.      Thrash Metal Hate Saw (The Last Act of Terror)
3.      Knights of Denim
4.      Salt the Wounds
5.      Atomic Cruiser
6.      Raise the Flag…And the Hordes will Follow
7.      Nosferata
8.      Lady Vampire
9.      I Ain’t Marching Anymore
10.  I Felt Nothing (CD bonus track)
11.  Trench Fever (CD bonus track)
12.  Blitzhammer (CD bonus track)

Recorded at the Necrolab Studios and at NOCTURNAL BREED’s private “Bunker Studios” “Carry the Beast” will be available in CD, Digital, Vinyl and Limited Edition Transparent Red vinyl and Cassette on the 23rd of June, and can now be pre-ordered from the following:

Formed in 1996 by S.A. Destroyer (aka Svartalv – ex. GEHENNA, SATYRICON) NOCTURNAL BREED was, for him, not just an homage to the Thrash, Speed and Heavy Metal waves of the 80’s, it was also an antidote against the softening of attitudes within the Metal genre, and the growing commercialisation of the Black Metal scene.

Twenty-seven years later, and now a formidable trio, age has not softened NOCTURNAL BREED in the slightest. Together, S.A. Destroyer on Vocals and Bass, T. Terror on Drums and Vocals and I. Maztor on Guitars, serve up some fearsome shredding with a large helping of outstanding old-school heavy metal, in what will be the band’s seventh full-length studio album.

“Carry the Beast” reflects on a lot of those darker aspects of humanity that have crept to the forefront of society over the past 2-3 years. It is an album in which the intensity of its compositions is apparent throughout, creating a work that is so full of unbridled hate that it feels as raw as an open wound.

Recorded without the use of modern equipment “Carry the Beast”, is effectively a wholehearted look back at what inspired the band and the original extreme metal scene, evoking in the listener all those emotions that come with the time-honoured traditions of Metal.

BLOODBOUND ‘Drink with the Gods’ in Brand New Music Video

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 13, 2023

July 7, 2023 sees Swedish power metal masters, BLOODBOUND, release their hotly-anticipated, new studio album entitled Tales From The North. The band’s tenth album will be coming out as a 2-CD digipak including a live CD, a strictly limited box set as well as coloured vinyl LPs; the pre-sale is available via the AFM Records store here!

Following first epic album appetizers, the previously-released songs “Odin’s Prayer”, “The Raven’s Cry” and “1066”, today, the band has shared a music video for their new single, the viking anthem “Drink with the Gods”! “The song is about the belief in an afterlife in the great halls of Valhall,” says lead guitarist Tomas Olsson. “It was a strong motivating force for the Viking warriors going into battle. To drink with the gods in Valhall was the highest honor. Only the fallen warriors that the god Odin deemed brave and worthy enough could reach Valhall. This belief shaped the way Vikings lived their lives and honoured the fallen.”

When it comes to defending the core values of timeless power metal and combining them with fresh stylistic variations and exciting stories, BLOODBOUND have always been fighting at the forefront. The six-piece has proven their versatility and inventiveness countless times. Following their much acclaimed, 2021-album, Creatures Of The Dark Realm, Tales From The North will unquestionable continue to enthrall the metal community! As Olsson recently revealed:

“’Tales From The North’ is very much a concept album about the viking era. About the lives of our ancestors up here in the dark, cold and unfriendly environments of the north. Different legends and myths intertwine during the course of the songs, leading up to the epic battle of 1066, which marks the end of the viking era.”

Tales From The North was produced by BLOODBOUND, and was mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren (Amorphis, Overkill, Sabaton) at the Swedish ‘Black Lounge Studios’. The cover artwork was created by Péter Sallai (Hammerfall, Powerwolf & many more).

Olsson adds: “The songs are more fast-paced and closer to some of our earlier stuff like ’Moria’ and ’Nosferatu’, but have more complex arrangements. Compared to the predecessor ‚Creatures Of The Dark Realm‘ there are heavier guitars and some deeper sounding keyboards. We have also incorporated some traditional nordic folk music instruments to fit the concept of the album. It`s still pure power metal but we’re trying to take it to the next level.”
