PREDATORY VOID Unleash “Seven Keys To The Discomfort Of Being” Album

For years, the area surrounding Flemish city Ghent has proven to be a fertile breeding ground for innovative and experimental sounds in the realm of hard and heavy music. In 2021, the home of the Belgian artist collective Church Of Ra has brought forth a new group that is set to conquer the extreme music world by storm: Its name is PREDATORY VOID – and its members are no strangers to the scene.

AMENRA, OATHBREAKER and LIVING GATE guitarist Lennart Bossu started writing and home-recording the song ideas that would lay the foundation for PREDATORY VOID as a means to stay sane and occupied during the pandemic when playing live was not possible. As it it became clear that the straightforward dark and heavy material didn’t quite fit AMENRA, he quickly gathered musicians from his local scene to turn this project into a full band, now consisting of vocalist and tattoo artist Lina R. (CROSS BRINGER), bassist Tim De Gieter (AMENRA, DOODSESKADER, MUCH LUV STUDIO), guitarist Thijs De Cloedt (COBRA THE IMPALER, ex-ABORTED) and drummer Vincent Verstrepen (CARNATION).

“When forming this band, one of the criteria was that we all had to live at a reasonable driving distance from each other”, Lennart Bossu explains. “I wanted to absolutely avoid the difficulties of having band members scattered across continents and form a band that would be able to easily get in a van together and play live shows, as that remains one of the greatest things about playing music.”

It’s an eclectic group with varied musical interests from shoegaze and doom to hardcore, black and death metal. Singer and lyricist Lina R. cites the likes of KING WOMAN, FUNERAL CIRCLE, DREAM UNENDING, SERAPHIM, HAVE A NICE LIFE and KIND DUDE as inspirations for this project, but there’s much more: the “clean guitars over heavy music approach” of bands like DISEMBOWELMENT and ESOTERIC as well as “eerie, Swans-like moments”, as Lennart Bossu states – which combined turn PREDATORY VOID into something bigger than an ordinary metal band. “Musically, I tap into more or less the same energy and feelings as when I made music with OATHBREAKER. I had a short debate with myself whether I should forcibly create something that sounds totally different, but it just felt more honest to stick with the music that naturally flows out of me”, the songwriter explains. “I kind of consider PREDATORY VOID OATHBREAKER’s more obnoxious and delinquent sibling who will not hesitate to punch you in the face if needed.”

While the band started out as Lennart Bossu’s brainchild and he is the main songwriter, the creative process for their debut album Seven Keys To The Discomfort Of Being was fueled by teamwork and everyone bringing in their strengths: Tim De Gieter’s deep growls added another dimension to the vocals and his experience as a recording engineer led the production from a lo-fi sound into a more contemporary direction; Lina R.’s drive and influence as a lyricist advanced the songwriting process; all the while her bandmates motivated her to experiment with her vocals more than ever before and become more transparent and vulnerable – something that’s also shown in her self-reflective lyrics. “There is definitely a theme, but it’s not something I could put into one sentence”, she explains. “To me, it’s not a depressive or aggressive record but more of a multilayered journey to the core of a human being: looking inwards, disassociating at times, expecting the worst, making peace with your flaws and accepting frustrations.”

Having finished the recordings for Seven Keys To The Discomfort Of Being in early 2022, PREDATORY VOID chose baptism by fire, playing renowned Dutch underground festival Soulcrusher in fall 2022 without a single released song. The performance left them with an eager fanbase as well as a new level of motivation and faith in what they set out to do. “We’ve done a few more shows since and we notice that, although we have experience in bands, this band is a really its own thing; a new-born that will need time to develop and be fully realized”, Lennart Bossu summarizes. “We are not a marketing strategy, but five humans who have the irresistible urge to play music and will without a doubt fuck up now and then. I hope that this will at least be interesting for people to watch.”

  1. Grovel

Following their much-acclaimed debut album, Resilience, self-released in 2022, Italian alternative rock act LOST ZONE has inked a worldwide record deal with Drakkar Entertainment / Soulfood Music. July 14, 2023 will see the up-coming band release a new CD edition, entitled Resilience – Full Circle, featuring nine exclusive acoustic versions and 11 powerful rock tracks!

“We are thrilled to announce, that we have teamed up with the music label DRAKKAR ENTERTAINMENT!” The band comments. “In February, we had the pleasure of visiting BELIEVE’s Drakkar Entertainment headquarters in Hamburg and to meet everyone we will be working with from now on. We are super happy about this collaboration and can’t wait to do great things together!”

Label manager Maximilian Föse states: “Welcome to the Team!
We are super excited to share the news that we teamed up with the Alternative Rockers LOST ZONE from Italy. With the self-released debut album “Resilience” LOST ZONE started to pave their way into the top tier of the modern & alternative rock scene. Their music carries a mix of modern rock and metal sounds, catchy melodies, heavy drumming, pumping rhythms & versatile vocals that are merged into their own style.”

In support of their upcoming, new album edition of Resilience – Full Circle, today, LOST ZONE is premiering a music video for “Burst Like A Dynamite” (Acoustic) featuring Patrick Strobl of South Tirol-based folkrock band MAINFELT! Watch the new LOST ZONE clip here:

Ever since LOST ZONE debuted with their first EP, followed by Resilience in March 2022, putting the band into a bracket has never been an easy task as they include influences from rock, core but also pop elements into their music. Balancing between brutal, mean riffs and heavy beats, heartfelt ballads, a cover of Linkin Park’s In The End ( with more than a half milion views to date ), between alternative rock, metal core to almost covering the musical spectrum in its entirety, subtle similarities to Bring Me The Horizon, 30 Seconds To Mars and Linkin Park could be noticed. Vocalist / guitarist Florian said: „It’s impossible to fully hide our influences, but we do our very own thing.“

This is underlined by the fact that the Italian three-piece entirely writes, records and produces their music themselves. Drummer Simon reveals, “In 2017 we built our own studio, in order to work on our project independently.“

On July 14, 2023, the band comes full circle with their new, enthralling version of Resilience – Full Circle, the pre-sale has just started via Drakkar Entertainment at THIS LOCATION!

Innovative Metal Duo XANXIA Present ‘Treta Yuga’ Lyric Video

Innovative and trailblazing metal duo XANXIA is excited to announce the release of their official lyric video for the single “Treta Yuga.” The track is taken from their album “Maha Kalpa,” set to launch on May 5th, 2023, through Wormholedeath Records.

The video is an intense journey through the mesmerizing universe of Xanxia’s music and showcases the band’s ability to create a unique sound.

Maha Kalpa tells a universal tale of time and consciousness inspired by the idea of a great cycle of Yugas, originating in Hinduism. Beginning in the golden age, and spanning all the way through the decline and destruction of the universe and its eventual resurgence, Xanxia outlines a miraculously complex story of the nature of being.

The band’s lineup consists of Adam Zuccaro (guitar, drums, vocals) and Jason Mingalone (guitar, bass, vocals), who have collectively crafted an album that pushes the boundaries of progressive metal.

JOHN MELLENCAMP to Release New Album “Orpheus Descending” on June 2nd, New Track + Video ‘Hey God’ Unveiled, Currently Touring North America

JOHN MELLENCAMP’s forthcoming new album Orpheus Descending is set for release June 2 via Republic Records. In anticipation of upcoming record, Mellencamp is sharing the album track “Hey God.” Listen/share HERE, watch/share the official video HERE and pre-order the album HERE.

His twenty fifth album produced by Mellencamp and recorded as his own Belmont Mall Studio. One of his most personal records to date, standout tracks “Hey God” and “The Eyes of Portland” focus on social issues Mellencamp continues to passionately advocate for.

Mellencamp is currently in the midst of his massive Live and In Person 2023 North American tour, with dates running through June 27 including stops in New York City, Nashville, Philadelphia, Boston and more. A complete list of remaining dates is below and tickets where available for purchase HERE.

He’s currently performing songs from the new LP during his live set. The Chicago Tribune says “Awash in death, “Hey God” functioned as a plea for deliverance from senseless gun violence. Preceded by a story about his encounter with a 20-something homeless woman, the solo acoustic “The Eyes of Portland” took aim at the empty “thoughts and prayers” condolences offered as a solution to major tragedies and dilemmas.” LA Weekly describes the performances as “authentic, grounded and painfully honest.”

His critically acclaimed studio LP, Strictly A One-Eyed Jack, was released early last year to praise from The New York Times, NPR Music, Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes and more.

Mellencamp also recently released a deluxe edition reissue of his beloved seminal album, Scarecrow, which features a massive collection of bonus tracks, rarities and more never previously shared before. Listen HERE.

Mellencamp is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Grammy winner, a recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, ASCAP Foundation’s Champion Award, The Woody Guthrie Award and Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award and more recently, the Founders Award, the top honor assigned by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Mellencamp has continued to focus on another facet of his artistic expression: painting. Last year, he released a self-curated book of his work, John Mellencamp: Paintings and Assemblages, which is out now on Rizzoli New York.

Icelandic RING OF GYGES Release New Single + Lyric Video ‘Nautilus’

Icelandic Progressive rockers RING OF GYGES have released the second single/video “Nautilus” from their forthcoming album “Metamorphosis” which will be released via ViciSolum Productions on May19.

Helgi Jónsson (vocalist and guitarist) about the single/video:
“Nautilus is perhaps the heaviest song we’ve written, but it’s also one of the most progressive. There isn’t a single measure of 4/4 rhythm in the entire song, which we didn’t notice until after the fact! Despite the technicality and heaviness, there’s a strong melodic backbone that (hopefully) pulls the listener through the track. I wrote the original demo years ago and I’m super proud of this song and what the other guys in the band did with it. It’s a bit of an oddball track with influences from bands like Tool and Intronaut, so this is something different from us. We hope you enjoy Nautilus, and for the old school prog fans just know there’s plenty of stuff to sink your teeth into on the rest of the album.”

PUTRID EVOCATION to Release Vinyl Edition of Acclaimed “Eternal Gloom” EP

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 24, 2023

Burning Coffin Records and Dawnbreed Records are pleased to finally announce the official release in vinyl format of “Eternal Gloom: A Void of Agony and Repugnancy” from Chilean death metal miscreants PUTRID EVOCATION.

The EP was originally released in CD and tape format last year, while the LP edition will be available in a limited pressing of 300 on clear (with blue and purple) / 200 on black on May 5th 2023.

In an ever-burgeoning Death Metal scene in the South American country which has spawned countless great acts like Innana, Torturer, Soulrot and more, PUTRID EVOCATION are a familiar name and “Eternal Gloom” is the fourpiece’s first release of new music after their 2014 full-length “Echoes of Death”. Seven years later and the world is in turmoil and PUTRID EVOCATION have returned devoid of light and full of pestilence to twist and turn the human psyche on this their posthumous recording.

In a change to the groups usual skull crushing Death Metal stylings “Eternal Gloom” presents the band in a significantly darker and more progressive light. The EP is sewn together utilizing clever bridges between tracks that ramp up the atmosphere and serve well in the listener losing themselves down a rabbit hole of expertly crafted Death Metal. PUTRID EVOCATION change tracks up introducing some mid-tempo almost touching Death/Doom stylings to the mix with subtle synths and loads of re-verb which adds to the whole feel of the record which is at points utterly oppressive. There is this real feeling of anguish and an introspection that tears you down to their level.

The fourpiece still manage to absolutely pulverise when they ramp up the pace spewing out a maelstrom of flesh tearing Death Metal with flailing riffs that will have you hooked from the first note you hear. Drummer “A.V.” produces a show stealing performance behind the kit… pure annihilation that, fair warning, your speakers may not survive. The overall performance is perfectly topped off by the vocal savagery from “B” and “R” which range from low groans to gritty howls and sound utterly haunting.

This impressive EP deserves far more attention, so get up, rub your eyes, go grab your wallet and head over to Burning Coffin (Chile/ ROW) or Dawnbreed (Europe) to pick this up!

FFO Incantation, Dead Congregation, Burial Invocation, Cruciamentum

Album tracklist:

1. Evokers of the Obscurity, Reveal the Course of True Death
2. Spreading the Impure Seed of Antichrist Ejaculation upon Your Dismal Skeleton (Interlude)
3. Faceless Shadows
4. Cryptical Rites of Rotting Flesh
5. Surrounded by Emaning Black Mist from the Depths of a Derelict Grave (Interlude)
