VEILED are one of the UK’s newest forces of sonic brutality, delivering a blistering assault of modern metal, carving out their own unique heavy sound.
Today they unveil their dynamic new EP The Black Rite, released via Seek and Strike, with their huge new video ‘The Discovering (I)’.
VEILED commented: “For The Black Rite we wanted to take everything that we had done before, musically and visually, to the next level. Everything we create is rooted in the universe we’re crafting, this helps us when creating the songs from the ground up, trying to tell a story, musically first and then building upon it from there, lyrically and with visuals. When writing we always write visually, thinking what we would put over this song cinematically, even if there doesn’t end up being a music video to that track.
“We wanted a name that summed up the entire EP. The Black Rite is a ritual taken from the ancient book within our music videos, so it only felt fitting to name the EP this, as the Rite is what summons “Ж”, the being from our stories. The Black Rite is what brought us together as a collective.
“All our lyrics build upon the stories that we are telling, be that explaining a certain characters feelings or explaining their intentions, or expanding on the back story. We have so many different versions of certain lines and lyrics and sift through each to find which ones fit best and have the best flow, while still having meaning. Sometimes we will have a story and see which song best fits the concept to tell it with, sometimes we will let the music completely dictate what story we tell.
“As a whole, we are so proud of this EP as everything just came together so organically and smoothly. We feel it’s sonically and visually the best product we have produced together and is a perfect introduction to us!”
Check out Dutch Blackened death outfit ONHEIL‘s brand new video for Night Terror ‘, which is taken from the album “In Black Ashes”. Release date June 23, 2023, via Black Lion Records.
Dutch Blackened Death Metallers Onheil returns with the new album “In Black Ashes”. Fully utilizing the possibilities offered by having a three-guitarist band, every riff is an example of a well-structured melodic build, with thrash/black undertones. The band delivers a well-performed and written album that strives and succeeds at being both hard-hitting, heavy, and aggressive yet melodic and enchanting.
Onheil on the new single: “Night Terror was unanimously selected as the first single of our new album In Black Ashes by both ONHEIL as well as BLACK LION RECORDS. Night Terror is aggressive, Night Terror is ugly, but Night Terror is also catchy. It starts out with a haunting, triple-guitar harmony intro but soon the song hits hard. From there on it is old school Blackened Death Metal with some thrash riffs. The dual scream/grunt vocals are introduced as well as some crazy guitar solo work. Most of the song is full of raging metal! Based on experiences our singer/vocalist Amok had with someone that suffered sexual abuse, and anxiety disorders that were formed because of it, the lyricsdeal with the trauma that such a victim has to deal with for the rest of their life. As ONHEIL wants to hold up a mirror to humanity, this song tries to capture the feeling of constant fear and terror in music! Sure to be one of our fan favorites and a permanent live song to which a crowd can go crazy!.“
Recorded during the pandemic the album features mostly new members along with founding member Amok. The band decided against releasing the album during the pandemic, rather than utilizing the time to bring the album to its full potential. Lyrics were improved, vocals re-recorded and solos – something that the band had not incorporated into their writing before – were added, adding a whole new dimension to the band’s sound.
Any person that enjoys dual guitars, melodic harmonies, and fast-paced, blackened, and in-your-face metal should not miss out on this album.

THE MON, the solo project of Ufomammut’s Urlo, is preparing to release its second album, Eye, through Supernatural Cat Records on May 26, 2023. Now, BrooklynVegan has hosted a premiere of an animated video for the album’s second single, “Confession”, featuring Neurosis’ Steve Von Till.
By comparison to its predecessor, Doppelleben, THE MON’s Eye LP is more introspective and denser, the new record built around electronic soundscapes and acoustic atmospheres that take you on a sonic journey where the songs flow nonstop into one another. While Urlo performs the entire musical foundation of the album, he is joined by a cast of special guests, with vocal/lyrical contributions from Steve Von Till (Neurosis), Colin H. Van Eeckhout (Amenra), and Francesca De Franceschi Manzoni, as well as violins from Sarah Pendleton (Subrosa, The Otolith), and guitars from David W (White Hills).
Eye was written, performed, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Urlo at The Howl, Italy, and the artwork completed by the Malleus Rock Art Lab collective. While choosing a singular genre for THE MON’s Eye is surely a difficult challenge, one could classify the album as heavy dark folk electronic.
Urlo writes with the “Confession” premiere, “When I was in the middle of creating Eye, I thought it would have been cool to ask some friends if they wanted to join me and play something on it. I was so happy when Steve Von Till told me he was in. Steve is what I would call a ‘maestro’ in Italian; It means ‘master, but also ‘teacher.’ When I sent ‘Confession’ to him, the song was just guitars, some synths, a repetitive arpeggio and the final vocals, looping the same phrase over and over. He wrote the lyrics, sang, and added synths and atmosphere to the entire track. He taught me some tricks too, and it’s been great to share music in this way. He also suggested some ideas for mixing, and it was amazing to have him forge this song with me.”
Urlo elaborates on the video for “Confession” which was created by Malleus, “I wanted to do something special for ‘Confession’ and I put myself on the video, drawing like hell for days, to make this short story happen. I know it’s not a ‘Disney clip,’ but I think the atmosphere of the song reflects perfectly in it and I’m extra proud of this amazing collaboration with Steve.”
Steve Von Till adds, “When Urlo asked if I would contribute to a track on his upcoming album, I was honored and didn’t hesitate. He and I have been friends for many years now and I consider us to be part of an extended global musical family. As a member of the art collective Malleus, he has designed many posters for Neurosis over the years. They even designed a poster for my wedding. His band, Ufomammut, has toured with Neurosis and our label, Neurot Recordings, has released their last five albums. In other words, we have history.”
He continues, “The basic track he sent for ‘Confession’ had the title, and contained a very simple yet haunting repeating figure that instantly suggested the fundamental vocal melody. I processed the entire basic track through filters, delays, and reverbs, distilling it into a cloudlike texture that would suggest other less obvious harmonics to incorporate. The words came quickly and naturally. Like so many of my lyrics, they were not premeditated, and I am not completely sure what they mean, but reading them now, they do imply some sort of internal conflict. Metaphorically hunting oneself down and putting oneself on trial, to be held responsible for some guilt we all suffer. As if Mother Earth herself has been embodied and subjected by us all to what amounts to a witch trial, and we are all burning her and ultimately ourselves at the stake. But that’s just what it feels like today. Tomorrow it may be different.”

Supernatural Cat will release Eye on limited 12” Blue and Red vinyl variants, digipak CD, and all digital services on May 26th. Find preorders now at the label webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE!
THE MON is the solo project of Urlo, who is most widely known as the lead vocalist, bassist, synth player and one of the founding members of the heavy psych Italian band Ufomammut. He is also one of the three minds behind the poster art trio Malleus Rock Art Lab, and one of the operators of Supernatural Cat Records. The aim of THE MON is to reach the boundaries of a spiritual soundscape in which the music becomes purification and atonement, a way to bring out the world that is inside the human soul. Where Ufomammut creates mind-expanding, heavy psychedelic, almost other-dimensional sounds, THE MON is far more intimate, looking inward, as Urlo explores and examines his innermost thoughts through music. THE MON builds layers of brooding sounds which sometimes unfurl at a glacial pace and other times lurch with rhythmic propulsion, each piece distinct, densely packed, and all-consuming in their evocative atmospheres.

“Fremmede Toner” from Norwegian Folk Prog Rockers LUMSK is a long way from being your average album because all its twelve tracks are actually in pairs, with each individual pair taking as their base one poem and revisiting it in two different, yet beguilingly similar, ways.
It therefore follows that when revealing a new single from the album, there must be two tracks, as is the case with “Avskjed” and “Abschied” which can be streamed or downloaded from a variety of sources at THIS LOCATION.
As the band explained:
Avskjed / Abschied is the second pair of songs (singles) taken from our upcoming album “Fremmede Toner”. This time the lyrics are the re-creation of the famous German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche´s “Abschied” by Norwegian author Andre Bjerke, as well as the poem in its original form. Just as Bjerke´s poems are translations and recreations and are quite familiar but not the same as the original, the songs also try to reflect eachother in the same way. They will feel familiar but will still not be the same.
“Fremmede Toner” is the fourth full-length release from LUMSK, a band that was formed in 1999, just when the metal scene was exploring the use of regional folk traditions within music. With their use of heavy guitars, keyboard and organs, violins, session horns and female vocals, and a clear vision of the direction they wanted their music to take, LUMSK was in the right place at the right time.
Having garnered a considerable fan base and a stellar reputation, both at home and internationally, LUMSK released their third full-length album and promptly took a hiatus that was to last sixteen years.
Now, with their new album set for release on the 5th of May on Dark Essence Records, LUMSK’s seven-piece lineup includes Mari Klingen on Vocals, Siv Lena Laugtug Sæther on Violin, Eystein Garberg on Guitar, Roar Grindheim on Guitar, Espen Warankov Godø on Keyboards, Espen Hammer on Bass, and Vidar Berg on Drums.
Mixed by Rhys Marsh at Autumnsongs Recordings, and Mastered by Arnstein Fossvik at AudioMaster, “Fremmede Toner” is LUMSK’s most varied and intriguing work to date, demonstrating how the band’s unique blend of metal and Nordic folk music melds together with rich textures and clever arrangements.
Track listing is as follows:
Det Døde Barn
En Harmoni
Avskjed
Under Linden
Fiolen
Dagen er Endt
Das Tode Kind
A Match
Abschied
Under der Linden
Das Veilchen
The Day is Done
“Fremmede Toner” will be available in CD, Limited Edition Double LP in Gold and Turquoise vinyl and Digital formats, and can now be pre-order from the following:
Featuring works by some of the most famous European and North American poets, such as Nietzsche, Goethe, Swinburne etc., the album cover, by Per Spjøtvold, someone with whom the band has worked since the beginning, also reflects the “dual” concept of “Fremmede Toner”. A concept that the band recently described:
We stumbled upon “Fremmde Toner”, a collection of poems the by Norwegian Author André Bjerke in which he had translated and re-created poems from different English and German speaking poets, and we realised that not only did we want to write music for the Norwegian poems, but also to write music for the original poems themselves. The idea of the concept was not to create the same songs twice, but to make the songs mirror each other in a way, trying to somehow recreate the idea of a translation or re-creation. Thus, as with the poems themselves, the songs are not the same, but are, nevertheless familiar.
Finnish atmospheric progressive metal band ALASE released their second studio album ‘A Matter of Time’ yesterday, April 14th 2023 via Finnish Inverse Records.
“The album “A Matter of Time” shows where Alase is heading towards musically. We are already working on new music and this album leads the way to our new paths.
Compared to our debut album Vastaus, A Matter of Time is more versatile and progressive. In a way it is more mature but we also took more musical risks with its material. We even threw in a couple of tracks that go outside the genre of metal music but they still sound like Alase. Those songs also contain more electronic sounds which is a new thing for us.
Softer parts on the album are very soft but the heavier parts at their heaviest get really crushing and technical. When it comes to musicianship, this album contains the most demanding stuff that we have so far done.
Besides five previously unheard tracks, the album contains four tracks that were released as singles and music videos. Those songs represent the album pretty well but don’t tell the whole story. If you like bands Katatonia, Haken, VOLA and Sleep Token, this album might work for you!”

Starting his professional life in music as a nightclub DJ in 1978 working for wiseguys in clubs on Long Island, Tales From the Gutter follows Mike as he ascends the ladder of working in music at thrash metal record labels and import record distributors, leading an underground cult-favorite New York City sleaze metal band, Sweet Pain, tour managing for the platinum selling heavy metal band, L.A. Guns, promoting rock and roll nightclubs, and DJing at Peter Gatien’s infamous Club Kid hangout, the Limelight, in an era of legally drinking at 18, no-photo driver’s licenses, and the pre-crack and pre-AIDS New York City.
Raised in an environment of old world Italian values with the infamous Lucchese wiseguys featured in Martin Scorcese’s Goodfellas, it was ultimately music that gave Mike his purpose. This is a story of passion, hard work, and making your dreams come true, with lots of rock and roll debauchery on the side. Follow Mike and his friends in TALES FROM THE GUTTER on their wild adventures with Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Danger Danger, Iron Maiden, L.A.
