ISEGRIM Release Reissue of Self-Titled Debut Album with Music Video for ‘Angel with Fire and Sword’

In the Old Testament, the wolf appears for the first time and exclusively as a symbol of evil – as Satan incarnate, set against the good shepherd, the servant of God. For centuries, the wolf Isegrim was stigmatised as the incarnation of heresy, danger and a threat to humanity and Christianity. This demonisation led to relentless persecution and the near-extinction of the animal.

A. Blackwar turns this perspective on its head: it is not the animal that is evil – but humanity itself.

Over the past 35 years, traditional black metal has branched out into numerous subgenres. It is now rare to find artists who focus on the original essence of this genre: fast, aggressive and anti-Christian music.

A. Blackwar has been an active part of the black metal scene since 1992 and is regarded as a long-standing contributor to extreme metal culture. Over four decades, he has been involved in numerous bands and projects, shaping their sound with a consistent commitment to darkness, aggression and authenticity.

With ISEGRIM, A. Blackwar returned to his roots. He was the sole member when the band was founded in 1998 – a role he now assumes once again. In this original line-up, he consistently carries on and further develops the traditional and occult spirit of black metal. His musical journey is characterised by consistency, discipline and an uncompromising dedication to extreme music.

This attitude is also reflected in the dark message of the first album from 1999, which is now being released on vinyl for the first time via Fireflash Records (Holy Moses, Vanaheim, Sacriversum, etc.) and supplemented with three bonus tracks. These include the magnificent Destruction cover of “Bestial Invasion”. The vinyl edition is strictly limited to 300 copies in “Witchcraft Red” and, in addition to a 4-page insert, includes a signed autograph card and an Isegrim sticker.

To mark the re-release, ISEGRIM are today releasing the music video for the epic black metal anthem “Angel With Fire And Sword”, filmed in 2000 by Van Wingerden Filmproduktion. The song features on the 2001 EP “Gloria Deo, Domino Inferi”.

The song and video were remastered by Nils Lesser in 2025.

In doing so, A. Blackwar deliberately distanced himself from conventional production standards, opting instead for a raw atmosphere and uncompromising aesthetics. The video was shot in a single night at two castles – an intense yet challenging setting that significantly shapes the visual character.

The weather conditions could hardly have been more fitting: wet, cool and shrouded in light mist. This natural atmosphere lends the images a sombre, almost tangible authenticity that harmonises perfectly with the musical direction.

Instead of a conventional video production with elaborate camera movements and technical perfection, a different approach was deliberately chosen. Inspired by the raw visual style of “The Blair Witch Project”, the entire footage was shot handheld. This decision creates an immediate intimacy that draws the viewer straight into the action.

The result is not a typical music video, but rather a visual statement: Stay Black, stay Metal!

To mark his 35th anniversary, A. Blackwar will release another ISEGRIM album in 2027. Anyone who has served the scene with such consistency over decades undoubtedly belongs among the veterans of black metal. Whilst many leave the scene for family, professional or personal reasons, giving up was never an option for A. Blackwar. His loyalty to the cause is a life dedicated to black metal.

Finnish Prog Rockers TAIVALLAKI Present Debut Album “Distant Passage”

Taivallaki, Finnish prog rockers proudly present their debut album Distant Passage – It lights a new star in the northern progressive rock sky. It takes the listener through time and place, telling stories of history and nature. You will find yourself struggling on the icy sea, floating in an airship or exploring ancient geoglyphs. Human history with its wars and diseases as well as exploitation of nature have also provided inspiration for the lyrics. This new progressive sound has now been freed and it has a lot to offer to listeners of, for example, Rush, King Crimson, etc. Niina Maar of Viper Arms is shining on lead vocals.

Listen on music services

Taivallaki was formed in Finland in 2020, from the remnants of a heavy metal band. Our group set out on a new musical journey. Driven by a desire to explore different sounds, we embraced a progressive hard rock style. Initially, we started as a trio, focusing on instrumental tracks. However, it quickly became clear that our music needed a vocal element to truly shine.

Later that year, Niina joined us as our vocalist, and her arrival marked a turning point. Her powerful melodies and deep, story-rich lyrics brought our songs to life, steering us in the right direction.

Taivallaki – Distant Passage

Music by Sebastian Forma & Niina Maar
Lyrics by Niina Maar
Recorded by Jussi Vuola, V.R. Studio & Taivallaki
Mixed by: Jori Saloranta & Jussi Vuola, V.R. Studio
Mastered byi: Jarno Alho, Alho Audio Mastering
ISRC: FIV2U2400069, FIV2U2500011, FIV2U2600020-24
Catalog number: VRDIG360

About the songs:
130 (Lost Children of Hamelin) is based on the world-famous story of the Pied Piper, in musically the song represents the heavier side of our music. Many don’t know that the story is based on a true historical incident. Hamelin lost 130 residents – possibly children or young people – on 26th of June 1284. Their destiny still remains unknown. Taivallaki’s take on the legend uses the viewpoint of a mesmerized child, who in a dancing mania follows the magical tune to an unknown destination. With its powerful and eerie melodies the song engages you to… follow.

Sarajevo Roses – When you go to Sarajevo, you can see grenade traces on the streets, painted red. They honor the victims of the Bosnian war. The song is about the incredible tragedy that befell the Balkan region in the 1990s. The song simultaneously plays with the relentless rhythm of war and the glimpses of beautiful moments in life.

Chasing Shadows is about Franklin’s lost Arctic expedition. The HMS Erebus and HMS Terror carried the crew in search of the Northwest Passage from the northern side of Canada in year 1845. Being stuck in the ice eventually led to disease, starvation, and cannibalism. The song is about the hope of finding a new passage, but also about the desperate march across the ice to escape the Grim Reaper.

Passarola – Short Manifesto for those who are unaware that is possible to sail through the element air.
Passarola was a conceptual 18th century airship designed by a Portuguese priest Bartolomeu de Gusmão. However, his advanced ideas were seen as wizardry, and afraid of the Inquisition he burned his manuscripts and fled to Spain. With subtle melodies Taivallaki’s song floats in the air celebrating the mystery of flying that so strongly inspired Gusmão, padre voador.

BS – Well, just for the jam and bit of fun.

For Eyes That Are Not Mortal – Native Americans carved images and mazes into the desert sand, best seen from above. Who were they intended for, perhaps the gods? The song evokes a feeling of hot, dusty sand in the air and a hypnotic, pounding rhythmic pattern. The distortion of the guitar and bass intensifies the worship.

Crown of Thorns – Sometimes the paths of man and the animals of nature collide violently. Even the king of the forest is brought to his knees by the problems created by civilization. Taivallaki unexpectedly combines this scene with a wistful surf rock guitar and an old prayer. The encounter between nature and man is also often equally contradictory.

Taivallaki is:
• Niina Maar, Vocals & keyboards
• Sebastian Forma, Guitars
• Atte Mäkelä, Drums
• Aki Paulamäki, Bass

Power Metal Warriors WARKINGS Honor Opus with New Video Single ‘Live is Life’

Power metal warriors WARKINGS celebrate their energetic shows with a new single: their cover of “Live is Life” honors fellow Austrians Opus. Originally released in 1984, the song became an international hit. Similarly, WARKINGS stormed the top 10 of the German and Austrian charts with their latest album, Armageddon, released in the summer of 2025. Now, the quintet turns “Live is Life” into a power metal anthem with a charming 80s vibe—headbanging to this will leave you with a melody stuck in your head.

Of course, WARKINGS are using their new live anthem to expand their legions this summer. Their latest campaign will lead them to various European festival grounds—among them, Copenhell, Alcatraz, and Elbriot. Find the full list of dates below!

The Tribune about “Live is Life”:
“When we forged our own WARKINGS version of ‘Live is Life’, we never expected it to become such a massive anthem. But once we played it live on tour, our warriors and shield maidens in the crowd sang every word with us—and from that moment, we knew this song had become part of our battle hymn arsenal. The energy and the unity—it was impossible to ignore. This song belongs to our legion as much as to us.”

Since their formation in 2018, WARKINGS have cemented their place in the power metal scene. They have conquered festival stages, played alongside legends like Powerwolf, Hammerfall, and Subway To Sally, and built a devoted fanbase that has chanted their anthems at Europe’s biggest stages, including Wacken Open Air.

The five warriors in WARKINGS have once again taken up their weapons to bring the legends of their past to life with mighty power metal anthems. Each of them carries the memories of great battles within, and now, the time has come to unleash these stories upon the world alongside the indomitable sorceress Morgana le Fay. The band’s fifth album, Armageddon, is a journey through some of history’s most pivotal conquests—moments where warriors stood firm, empires crumbled, and the world was forever changed.

WARKINGS comment:
“Armageddon is not just the end — it’s the moments in history that changed the world forever. This album is a tribute to the warriors and shieldmaidens who faced the battles that shaped their world.”

Get Your Copy Of Armageddon NOW

From the Viking raid on Lindisfarne in “Armageddon” to the thunderous legacy of “Genghis Khan”, and the tragic fall of the Knights Templar on “Hangman’s Night”, WARKINGS breathe fire into forgotten chapters of the past.

The new album features strong forces – Orden Ogan (“Genghis Khan”) and Subway to Sally (“Stahl auf Stahl”) lend their weapons to the mighty kings. Adding to the sonic arsenal, Armageddon was produced by Felix Heldt and mixed/mastered by the renowned Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Powerwolf, Amaranthe). The band teamed up with further musicians to write some battle hymns on this album: Eike Freese (Dark Age, Lord of the Lost) lends his power to “Genghis Khan”, Jan S. Mischon (Saltatio Mortis) joins on “Varangoi”, and Ken Kängström (Follow The Cypher, Sabaton) co-wrote “Kingdom Come”.

With Armageddon, WARKINGS prove that history is not only written by rulers and conquerors—it is shaped by those who fought in their name. This album offers a glimpse into the experiences of those who stood at the brink of their own end—their personal Ragnarök, their own Armageddon. Honoring these fearless warriors, WARKINGS deliver yet another epic, destined to triumph in every battle!

Finnish classic Gothenburg-style melodic death metal band Morbid Intent are set to release their debut EP Marionettes later in 2026 via Inverse Records. The first single ‘Ashen Veil’ is unleashed today and it’s accompanied by a music video which can be seen below.

The band comments:
“Ashen Veil explores the distortion of reality and the illusion that wraps itself around the human mind like a veil of ash. The lyrics portray a state where the individual can no longer distinguish truth from falsehood – everything is obscured by manipulation and delusion.

Musically, the track combines crushing riffs, melancholic melodies and an intense atmosphere. The result is a dark yet captivating composition driven by both aggression and mood.

Ashen Veil serves as a gateway into the band’s upcoming Marionettes EP- release, offering a first glimpse into its central theme: the fragility of the human mind and the power of manipulation.”

SERPENT LORD Unveils New Single ‘A Pagan’s Spell’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 23, 2026

Solo pagan black metal project SERPENT LORD will be releasing its debut album, ‘The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,’ on May 29, 2026 via Eisenwald Records. The project is now releasing another haunting new single from the offering, “A Pagan’s Spell,” which can be found at THIS LOCATION.

SERPENT LORD first slithered into existence in 2003, emerging as a solitary pagan black metal vessel forged by Jake Superchi (UADA, Ceremonial Castings). Though the project’s first true album was recorded in 2005, the work was abruptly shelved and lay dormant for twenty years. Now, in the Year of the Snake, the ancient offering has been reborn and reimagined as ‘The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,’ preserving every note of its primordial conception.

The album was re-recorded in the cold heart of the Pacific Northwest between 2022 and 2025, engineered and mixed by Jake Superchi, and mastered by Arthur Rizk. The release features new artwork and the original logo created by Kris Verwimp, along with photography by Peter Beste.

Pre-orders are now live via the Obsidian Spells Shop (North America), Eisenwald (EU/UK), and Bandcamp (Worldwide).

The artwork was created by Kris Verwimp and can be found below along with the tracklisting.

Tracklist:

  1. Aries Ram [LISTEN]
  2. Constrictor [LISTEN]
  3. The Once Forgotten Ways of Old [LISTEN]
  4. Enter Serpentagram
  5. A Pagan’s Spell [WATCH]
  6. Forever on the Grounds of Battle

Originally formed over two decades ago, SERPENT LORD existed largely in the shadows, issuing only a handful of demos before entering an extended period of dormancy. Yet, the creative force behind the project never faded. Ideas, fragments, and compositions endured across the years, shelved for the right moment, only fully taking shape and being realized in the Year of the Snake, when the vision was finally forged into its definitive form.

Early demo material already hinted at what SERPENT LORD would become: a severe balance between melodic grandeur and unrestrained aggression, with transitions between atmosphere and brutality, produced to enhance rather than obscure its intensity.

Founded by Jake Superchi (known for its creative force in UADA and CEREMONIAL CASTINGS), SERPENT LORD channels the spirit of ’90s pagan black metal. The album stands as a triumphant and immersive work – melodic, fierce, and steeped in ritualistic energy. Expansive riffing, evocative passages, and a dynamic interplay between harsh and atmospheric elements, both timeless and fully awakened.

The album was recorded and mixed by Jake Superchi, and mastered by Arthur Rizk, achieving a sound that retains raw edge while delivering clarity and depth. The cover artwork, created by Kris Verwimp, along with photography by Peter Beste, further underscoring the album’s mythical and arcane atmosphere.

With ‘The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,’ SERPENT LORD emerges from decades of silence with a work that fulfills the promise of its early recordings; it’s an album shaped by time, and driven by an uncompromising vision of black metal.

DIMMU BORGIR Unleash New Album “Grand Serpent Rising” with Music Video for ‘As Seen In The Unseen’

Norwegian extreme metal titans DIMMU BORGIR today unleash Grand Serpent Rising, their long-awaited new studio album and first full-length release in eight years since Eonian.
Formed in 1993 by guitarist Sven “Silenoz” Kopperud and vocalist Stian “Shagrath” Thoresen during the height of Norway’s second-wave black metal movement, DIMMU BORGIR have never rushed the creative process — and the crushing weight and cinematic scope of Grand Serpent Rising prove the wait was worthwhile.

Recorded in Gothenburg with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström — the architect behind landmark Dimmu Borgir albums Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon — the new record delivers thirteen punishing yet remarkably diverse tracks that push the band’s symphonic extremity to towering new heights.

To celebrate today’s release, the band has also unveiled a stunning new cinematic video for the track ‘As Seen In The Unseen,’ further cementing Grand Serpent Rising as one of the year’s most anticipated extreme metal releases.

Listen to Grand Serpent Rising: https://dimmuborgir.bfan.link/grandserpentrising

Shagrath comments on the album release: “Grand Serpent Rising captures everything Dimmu Borgir has been and become — it’s darker, more brutal, yet melodic and diverse. It sums up all our phases; some songs are heavily inspired by our early years, while others push forward. We’ve made the album more dynamic, with orchestration used more deliberately. The result is a more intense and hard hitting record.”

Silenoz adds: “With Grand Serpent Rising, we deliberately revisited the spirit and atmosphere that shaped our identity in the early years. We wanted this album to feel like a journey through ruin, rebirth and transcendence. After all these years, the fire still burns stronger than ever – This album is both a reflection and a new awakening for Dimmu Borgir.”

The album comes in following formats:
CD Jewelcase
2LP + 1CD, 24-Page Mediabook, Transparent Green with Black + White Marble Vinyl
2LP Gatefold Black Vinyl
2LP Gatefold Dark Green Vinyl
2LP Gatefold Gold Vinyl (Norway Exclusive)
