ASGAARD Announce “W sercu nieświata” EP & Release First Single

Poland’s stalwart ASGAARD, having successfully returned to the map of gothic rock/metal with their 7th full-length “What if…” (released last year on Wormholedeath Records / Szataniec; digital/physical respectively), is about to put out an EP titled “W sercu nieświata” that features acoustic versions of the three tracks from the aforementioned album. The band has once again teamed up with a renowned and award-winning graphic designer Bartłomiej Trzos who created the EP’s cover art. In addition, each of the songs will be accompanied by photos by Bernard Wcisło and music videos produced by Brrvids.

“Acoustic songs were born out of a need to create a new form, without distortion, heavy guitars or massive sounding drums, in order to unearth qualities hidden in this music, at least on a surface level. Recording these songs in a non-metal manner was an entirely new challenge for us. We wanted to prove to ourselves – as well as to our fans – that we can successfully tackle playing in a different style, and that we are open and versatile musicians and not afraid to try new things. And I hope we achieved it. During the recording process, we used a number of interesting locations, like the chamber music hall in Music School Complex No. 1 in Warsaw. Moreover, we had plenty of unique instruments at our disposal. One of them was an upright piano, made in 1895, coming from a phenomenal music factory called Małecki, located in Warsaw, which unfortunately was destroyed during times of war and occupation. This particular piano has a distinct, deep, and noble sound. Slight differences in pitch or creaking while pushing the ‘sustain’ pedal shows that such an instrument is truly one of a kind. To capture a warm tone for new arrangements, we recorded all parts with the use of ribbon microphones and utilized brushes for the snare drum for the very first time in our careers. Those three compositions are not for everyone but we believe it is a fresh and subtle take on our music, which also provides a broader perspective on what we do. Asgaard was never a band that sticks to a particular formula, which is our trademark at this point I guess. After all, isn’t it the embodiment of artistic freedom?” – says Flumen, the band’s keyboardist.

The “W sercu nieświata” EP will be released digitally via Wormholedeath Records / The Orchard / Sony Music Ent.

Exiled Russian Metallers IMPERIAL AGE Move to Britain on Talent Visas, Following Endorsement by Arts Council England

When the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, IMPERIAL AGE founders and singers Jane Odintsova and Alexander ‘Aor’ Osipov published an antiwar manifesto and left their native Moscow for Turkey. The band had enjoyed increasing international popularity since 2020, especially among Western audiences, while staying independent from record labels, which allowed them to make the move and continue their band while fully relying on their music sales to make ends meet.

Over the next year they managed to finish and release “New World” – Imperial Age’s latest album – as well as to tour the EU and UK, securing the visas which were denied to many other Russian citizens.

During their UK tour in January 2023 they were endorsed by England’s Arts Council as ‘Exceptional Talents’, which allowed Jane and Aor to relocate to the UK on Global Talent visas – an elite immigration route reserved for internationally acclaimed artists, sportspeople and scientists.

The musicians posted on their website the following message:

“This moment is historical for us, and the biggest move of our lives so far. After leaving Russia and spending a year of uncertainty in Turkey in a dubious legal state, we finally have firm soil under our feet – something we never truly had before – in the form of Global Talent UK residency until 2026, after which we can both extend or apply for settlement and later – citizenship. We have come here for the long term, and are already searching for a good rent somewhere in the rural areas of the country.

Once that is settled, we will be able to resume full-scale work on our music and touring, only this time in incomparably better conditions.

We are infinitely grateful to our fans and Crowdfunders who made this move possible. Once we have found a place to live, we will start shipping out the perks and will also set up a date for the homecoming acoustic concert. We already have a venue in mind in London 😉”.

Kurdt Vanderhoof: “New Album is heavier but sounds like old Metal Church with a modern production”

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to Metal Church‘s guitarist and main man Kurdt Vanderhoof
Metal Church will release their 13th studio album, “Congregation Of Annihilation”, on May 26 via Rat Pak Records (America) and Reaper Entertainment (Europe).

Excerpts from the interview
When asked about the making of the new album
“After the Covid stuff started lifting, I wrote a new album and sent it off to Mike (Howe) and we were going back and forth starting our process. So then it happened (Mike Howe passes). There were a few months there that I kind of figured that it was over. Both original singers are gone, am I getting the message? But then after months realizing I had an album sitting there that if nothing else maybe we can put it out in honour of Mike. When we found Marc (Lopes) we took things step by step. We didn’t want to do a huge international search for a singer and make a big production of it, cause it might not have worked. We wanted to do everything under the radar. So as things worked out with Marc because of the way he sings, (the album) started taking on a more aggressive sound, much more thrashy, back to our roots kind of thing. So half of the songs off the new album I wrote with Mike (Howe) in mind and when we started seeing there was a new direction, then I wrote another batch of songs to fit in the more thrashy aggressive style.”

When asked about their set list with new singer Marc Lopes
‘The set list is going to be mostly the first two albums, with some Mike (Howe) era stuff. So now we are going to go back and do a lot of the older stuff and we are going to pull out a few deep tracks from that era with things that haven’t been played which will be fun. And a couple of songs off the new album.”

When asked about the new Metal Church’s album musical direction
“The New Album is heavier but sounds like Old Metal Church with a modern production.”

“Congregation Of Annihilation” track listing:

01. Another Judgement Day
02. Congregation Of Annihilation
03. Pick A God And Prey
04. Children Of The Lie
05. Me The Nothing
06. Making Monsters
07. Say A Prayer With 7 Bullets
08. These Violent Thrills
09. All That We Destroy
10. My Favorite Sin (bonus track)
11. Salvation (bonus track)

FIFTH ANGEL Release Video for New Single ‘Resist The Tyrant’

US metal legends FIFTH ANGEL have released a new single from their upcoming new studio album, When Angels Kill, which will be out on June 16th via Nuclear Blast Records.

The song ‘Resist The Tyrant’ which is being carried by infectious guitar leads and a captivating chorus is a prime example of those powerful and hard-hitting heavy metal anthems that can only be written and performed by the absolute masters of the genre.

In this day and age, tyranny is not fiction, it never was. While not a political song and rather woven into the album concept of When Angels Kill, ‘Resist The Tyrant’ bears a powerful message that will resonante with those oppressed or fighting oppression today. Its rebellious spirit has been remarkably captured in a new FIFTH ANGEL music video also premiering today.

The video introduces the four main characters in the story of this epic concept album. The four main characters of the story are: the protagonist Phoenix, a young man, and his best friend in the resistance, Dylan, Phoenix’s love interest Lana, also a member of the rebellion, and the global Tyrant Dionne Profontis.
