The new album from Finland’s death/doom metallers HANGING GARDEN is available for streaming in its entirety, released today March 24th on Agonia Records. Listen to “The Garden” at this location.

HANGING GARDEN formed in 2004, starting out as a heavy, doom-oriented project. Roughly two decades, seven albums and a couple of line-up shuffles later, the band shifted to a more melodic, contemporary sound, surrounded by a veil of melancholy.

The compositions are dark, atmospheric & emotional, and concomitantly lean towards open-minded and playful musicality. While entrenched in metal’s doom, gothic and melodeath branches, HANGING GARDEN displays a versatile, many-layered style of playing, packs female & male vocals, and draws influence & inspiration from music and art, far and wide.

The new album – “The Garden” – dives deep into atmospheres both “tender and harsh, devilish and serene” and “embarks upon a journey to mankind’s spiritual roots, contemplating the fragility of our technological society” – as poetically described by the band. “There is a kind of energy in the songs that there wasn’t before,” introspects Toni Hatakka of HANGING GARDEN. “A feel of hope to contrast our old friend the despair, a strong notion of action against the familiar melancholy, or maybe a light amidst the comfortable gloom…” Read Toni‘s full comment below.

“After almost two decades of dwelling in the musical and lyrical thematics of despair, loss and melancholy, I had the feeling that our next release could have some room for hope and light as well – of course not forgetting our trademark-ish somber aesthetic. The approach we decided to take was to weave a story of how humanity would still thrive, still find meaning, after the world as we know it has finally met its end.”

“Exploring the rituals, belief systems, connection to nature, finding purpose in just being and surviving were the cornerstones of how The Garden came to be. Another strong theme is that of dreams; since childhood, I’ve had this recurring dream world with a silent feel of stagnation, colossal constructs of rust, the action of journeying to the unknown, and lush nature. This is where I also draw a lot of what ended up on the album. The lyrics written by Riikka also amalgamated into this aesthetic perfectly. Even the name was given to me in a dream. Back in spring, I had a dream where our keyboardist Nino and I had a talk about this being our Magnum Opus and that we should call it The Garden. Such a powerful notion could not be left unheeded, and so the album had its name. The Garden is at the same time familiar and atypical for us. There is a kind of energy in the songs that there wasn’t before, a feel of hope to contrast our old friend the despair, a strong notion of action against the familiar melancholy, or maybe a light amidst the comfortable gloom. But in the end, this is us.”

SCARLET AURA Release First Romanian Single, True Heavy Metal Anthem ‘Rock în Sange și Voință’

SCARLET AURA have been on the forefront of the heavy metal scene, consistently delivering high-energy performances, and pushing the boundaries of the genre with their unique sound., power and performance. Their upcoming single “Rock în Sange și Voință” is no exception. With its powerful lyrics, driving beats, and soaring vocals, the track promises to be a headbanging anthem that will resonate with metalheads around the world.

The song’s message is particularly timely in today’s world, as it calls for unity, trust, and support among musicians, artists, and the wider community of metalheads and tattoo lovers. It emphasizes the importance of having an iron will, taking responsibility for one’s actions, and working hard to achieve excellence in one’s chosen field, making success as part of your own print, of your own body under the form of a tattoo or just of will.

Scarlet Aura’s new single is not just a song, but a representation of the band’s journey and what they stand for. The band’s latest release promises to inspire and uplift fans with its message of perseverance, unity, and hope and will for sure impress both long-time fans and new listeners.

The single was written in 2021 and first released on MusinkForHumanity CD compilation by “Asociația Tattoo & Piercing România” (Next Level Tattoos by Costi Azoiței) last year and eventually became a title track for band’s first album fully written in Romanian. Costi Azoitei, known also as one of the best tattoo artists in Europe and beyond is also guilty for the artwork of the album.

Mihai Danciulescu shares: “Rock in Blood and Will” is not just a song, but represents entirely who we are today. It’s been almost 20 years of music and searches for each of us, members of the Scarlet Aura band. Music is not something we do, it’s something we are, and so today, through our self-education in music, we are shaped by rock and willpower. You can only reach excellence if you have an iron will, if you take responsibility for what you have chosen to do, and especially if you want to evolve, to become better, to be ambitious and have faith in the day to come, in the colleagues next to you on stage, or in the audience for whom you write, sing, and live music. It’s amazing how we found each other with Costi Azoitei that inspired us in making a song about metal and tattoos and how this became the start of our future album and also an amazingly beautiful collaboration with him that ended with him making especially for us this extraordinary album artwork. We are a community, we artists and musicians, and today, through this song, we are happy to bring added value to it by singing out loud about our world, about tattoo artists and tattoos. Unity, trust, and being there for each other is the message that our song wants to convey, a message that is so much needed today, everywhere in the world, but especially in our world of music and fine arts.”

Scarlet Aura’s new single is available on all major music platforms today, March 24th, 2023. The full album “Rock in Sange si Vointa”, featuring 11 songs, will be released on May 5th 2023 via Universal Music Romania and Silver City Records.

MAJUSTICE‘s debut album Ancestral Recall is now out via Marquee/Avalon in Japan and digitally worldwide (outside Japan) via FC Metal. Four songs written by Timo Tolkki appear on the album: “Sonata Black”, “Dangerous”, “Infinite Visions”, and “You Rock My World”; originally slated to appear on an album by Timo’s now-defunct band INFINITE VISIONS, these songs were acquired by MAJUSTICE and given new life. “Infinite Visions” has a special guest performance from legendary vocalist Mike Vescera (ex-LOUDNESS/ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) who delivers incendiary lead vocals on this standout track.

The “Infinite Visions” lyric video can be viewed here:

MAJUSTICE is a Japan-based multinational power metal band formed in 2021 by guitarist Jien Takahashi (STORMHEART), who was heavily influenced by Timo Tolkki’s composition skills (during the “classic” STRATOVARIUS period), as well as the guitar wizardry of Marty Friedman and Yngwie Malmsteen.

MAJUSTICE features the powerful vocals of Iuri Sanson (ETERNITY’S END), the genius of keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij (RING OF FIRE), and the fretboard pyrotechnics of guitarist Kelly Simonz (KELLY SIMONZ’s BLIND FAITH). The lineup is rounded out by bassist Kaz Nakamura and drummer Yosuke Ibuki.

*70000TONS OF METAL 2024: January 29 – February 2
Miami, FL to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic*

The 70000TONS OF METAL festival organizers have announced that the twelfth edition of the floating festival will sail on January 29th to February 2nd from Miami, Florida – Cruise Capital of the World – to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and back, on board the luxury passenger vessel Freedom of the Seas.

The festival will once again host 60 Heavy Metal bands spanning all subgenres and welcome 3000 metalheads from around the world.

Freedom of the Seas, a Freedom class cruise ship, offers a host of amenities and complimentary dining options. Guests will also enjoy unrestricted festival access to all 120+ performances across four stages:

The Royal Theater is a five-storied concert hall. The more intimate Star Lounge offers the local club vibe. A third indoor stage, Studio B, provides an arena-like atmosphere. Lastly, but most notable, the Pool Deck Stage: The World’s Biggest Open Air Stage structure to sail the Open Seas. This colossal stage is surrounded by bars, plenty of room to sunbathe and even hot tubs incorporated into the stage itself, offering guests the unique opportunity to watch their favorite metal bands from the comfort of a hot tub.

The ship will sail to Puerto Plata – the Dominican Republic’s oldest city in the north and the pioneer of tourism in the country. The city is famous for Parque Independencia, the “Central Park” of Puerto Plata and a popular meeting point. Take a cable car to the top of “Monte Isabel de Torres”, a peak rising 2,600 feet above sea level. Swim and snorkel at Sosua beach and then grab some lunch or a beverage at one of the many nearby restaurants and bars. Try some local fare with a bowl of la Bandera: a meat stew with rice, beans, and fried plantains or a saucy Pescado con coco (fish in coconut sauce).

La Casa de la Cultura is a three-story Victorian house that features local arts exhibits, a contemporary art gallery, library and store with local goods for sale. Find yourself some of the oldest, most translucent amber in the world, which Puerto Plata is famous for.

As the festival organizers continually strive to innovate and improve the Heavy Metal Festival Experience for their guests and their surroundings, festivalgoers will once again have the option to purchase a Carbon Offset when booking their Private Cabin or Single Ticket for 70000TONS OF METAL 2024. For the eleventh voyage of 70000TONS OF METAL in 2023, nearly 15% of their customers chose to purchase the additional Carbon Offset. The funds contributed through the Carbon Offset Program went to Greentripper’s Improved Cookstoves in Ghana project.

BLACK MIRRORS to Kick Off European Tour with THE ANSWER

Following their much-acclaimed, latest studio album, Tomorrow Will Be Without Us (November 2022, Napalm Records), BLACK MIRRORS are gearing up for a series of tour dates with Northern Ireland-based heavy rockers THE ANSWER, kicking off this weekend in Haarlem, Netherlands!

See the tour dates in the flyer above.

BLACK MIRRORS’ second album is a deep, soulful and vividly textured 90’s inspired rock record with umpteen layers begging to be picked apart with each spin, and lyrically, traverses humankind’s increasing apathy towards the world around them. The album’s grunge-infused guitar lines meld in harmony, giving way to memorable riffs, rhythmic gems, big grooves and the addictive, beautifully unchained vocals of Marcella Di Troia. It fluxes from fierce and blustery to often gentle and calming – channeling the flavor of MTV’s glory era of acts like Nirvana, Radiohead, Hole, Alain Johannes, Alice In Chains and beyond – showcasing BLACK MIRRORS’ unforced, versatile and organic talent.

Together with the touch of worldwide-acclaimed producer Alain Johannes (Eagles Of Death Metal, Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, No Doubt,…), BLACK MIRRORS have reset the bar to unexpected heights, and their new album leaves its mark on today’s rock scene worldwide! One can be sure, the music world of tomorrow would be a lonely place without BLACK MIRRORS, and Tomorrow Will Be Without Us locks them at the top!

Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the UK underground. But not content with spawning an entire subgenre with early death/doom masterpiece Gothic nor with conquering the metal mainstream with the balls-out power of 1995’s Draconian Times, they have subsequently traversed multiple genre boundaries with skill and grace, evolving through the pitch-black alt-rock mastery of ‘90s classics One Second and Host to the muscular but ornate grandeur of 2009’s Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us and Tragic Idol (2012), with the nonchalant finesse of grand masters. The band’s last two albums – The Plague Within (2015) and Medusa (2017) – saw a much celebrated return to brutal, old school thinking, via two crushing monoliths to slow-motion death and spiritual defeat. Consistently hailed as one of metal’s most charismatic live bands, PARADISE LOST arrive in this new decade as veterans, legends and revered figureheads for several generations of gloomy metalheads. In keeping with their unerring refusal to deliver the expected, 2020 brings one of the band’s most diverse and devastating creations to date. Their last album Obsidian was released in spring 2020, hitting international charts with great success.
