“Call Of the Petrichor” is the third single from TIMECHILD’s upcoming sophomore album ‘’Blossom & Plague’’. “The song is about seeking a more natural and primal existence”, the band comments. “But slowly realizing that the faint echoes of a lost past might also bring back suffering you thought was long gone”.

“Call of the Petrichor” was, like the entire album, recorded and produced by Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Phil Campbell, Thundermother) and will make its live debut at the Jailbreak Festival 2023 in August, where Timechild will share the stage with bands such as Glenn Hughes, Wolfmother, Within Temptation, D-A-D, Arch Enemy and Saxon.

TIMECHILD have teamed up with Metal Shock Finland to premiere ‘Call Of The Petrichor’ lyric video for Finland, enjoy it below.

Timechild is a Danish progressive, heavy rock band formed in 2020 in Copenhagen. Their sound consists of a mixture of progressive rock and heavy metal, dominated by a powerful lead vocal and characteristic twin guitars, which together create their unique Scandinavian expression.

Since Timechild released their debut album “And Yet It Moves” at the end of 2021, things have moved fast for the new Danish band. Top reviews from both Danish and international media, Danish tours with Jesper Binzer (D-A-D), Thundermother and Artillery, concerts at some of the biggest club venues and rock and metal festivals in Denmark. And in 2023, the band will cross the country’s borders for the first time to go on their first EU and UK tours.

Now the band is back with their long-awaited second album “Blossom & Plague”, which will be released worldwide on September 1st, 2023 through Mighty Music. The vision with this record is to show how heavy rock can continue to challenge and surprise in 2023. The band’s heavy and dynamic sound and lyrics has taken a turn in a more progressive and dark direction on this record. Although the foundations of the band’s sound are clearly laid by the giants of the past, inspiration is drawn both across time and across genres. Precisely this opportunity to delve into the past several decades of music history and through this define their own sound has been an important part of the songwriting and recording process.

The artwork was developed by Travis Smith (Opeth, Megadeth, Katatonia, Avenged Sevenfold), who helped Timechild reach the perfect visual representation of the record.

The album is once again produced, mixed and mastered by Soren Andersen. With his vast experience within the genre, both as a producer and musician, Soren was a natural choice when the band’s new visions had to be brought to life. The result is eight strong and unique tracks, which broadly show the band’s dynamic range and artistic visions.

“Skillfully taps into the essence of hard rock’s greatest architects” Dom Lawson, Blabbermouth

“Blossom & Plague” will be released on LP (180gr black vinyl, limited to 300), digipack CD and digital formats via Mighty Music on September 1st, 2023.

EVILE Release Music Video for Haunting Third Single ‘When Mortal Coils Shed’

Tomorrow, July 14, 2023, English thrash metal frontrunners EVILE will celebrate the release of their brand new, sixth studio album and second Napalm Records release, The Unknown!

With The Unknown, the four-piece proves that they are more than just a thrash band, churning out slower tempos with a heavier approach. In addition, melodic vocals meet serious, in-depth lyrical topics – ranging from depression, overcoming loss and recurring nightmares, self-esteem and image, to more personal themes like living with dementia, struggling through the music industry and even the concerns of becoming a new parent.

Their new single, “When Mortal Coils Shed”, doubles down on that stirring new side of EVILE while showcasing exceptional songwriting with haunting, deep and personal aspects.

EVILE frontman OL Drake says:
“The third single from ‘The Unknown’ is ‘When Mortal Coils Shed’. We haven’t done a ballad since ‘Tomb’ on the 2013 album ‘Skull’, and I only like to do them when it feels right; and this one felt very right. The song grew from the main clean riff and I felt the need to make something out of it. Once the lyrics needed writing, it became apparent that a subject close to me and the band would fit. This song is for everyone who has lost someone close to them and the struggles that come with the acceptance of losing them. Even years after they’ve left us, they’re still missed, and the longing to be back at a time when they were still with us or for them to be back with us now is prevalent in our everyday lives. Enjoy.”

Since their formation in 2002, British thrash masters EVILE have been turning heads and taking names, delivering pure thrash offerings blended with an uncompromising metal assault. Not only have the band played a notable role in the thrash metal resurgence movement of the mid-to-late 2000s, but as Kerrang! praised, they have “carried the genre’s whole ‘revival’ on their shoulders.”

The Unknown sees EVILE more profound, personal and deep, while also proving heavier, stronger and more raucous than ever. Tracks such as previously-released singles “The Unknown” showcase the band’s haunting elements, balancing a dark, melodic and almost mesmerizing vibe with colossal, heavy riffage and thundering drums. Yet EVILE still stays true to their explosive trademarks and roots, and they leave nothing but a hammering new world of sound, building up to a stomping thrash manifesto. The Unknown unchains the rampant songwriting talent of these British thrash metal frontrunners, proving that thrash does not always have to be fast-paced. It can also be in-your-face with outstanding musical skill, without fear of showing a still unknown facet of lyrical depth and an enthralling, versatile, brave modern metal sound!

“We’ve taken a completely different approach on this album and I looked inward for inspiration; I’ve opened myself up like I never thought I would,“ OL Drake reveals. “We’ve always been at 500mph, like on the previous album (Hell Unleashed) and this time around we felt we wanted to try the polar opposite – some slower-than-we’ve-ever-done tempos with more melodic vocal hooks, and give Adam some freedom on the leads/writing. I’ve been working on my vocals since diving in the deep end in 2021, and we’ve worked hard for 2 years on this, so I’m excited for everyone to hear the fruits of our labour. We’re really proud of what we’ve all accomplished with this album.“

The Unknown was recorded by Tim Vincent at Longwave Studios in Cardiff, UK, and was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Clancy at the same Longwave Studios. Out tomorrow on Napalm Records, make sure to purchase your copy of this must-have metal jewel HERE!

Co-Founder Kim McAullife: “GIRLSCHOOL’s late guitarist Kelly Johnson is still an iconic image to the band”

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed GIRLSCHOOL’s guitarist, vocalist co-founder Kim McAuliffe. In the interview McAullife talks about the bands beginnings, their relationship with Lemmy from Motorhead over the years and the bands new upcoming studio album WTFortyfive.

Girlschool’s new album WTFortyfive? will be released on July 28th via Silver Lining music.

Forty-five years young, British hard rock royalty GIRLSCHOOL comes out swinging with their fourteenth studio album, WTFortyfive?, a deliciously dirty declaration that age is a number that shows how much real raw attitude you have when it really counts.

When asked about the legacy of late guitarist Kelly Johnson
“Well she left the band and then went on with her life for a few years then came back again and rejoined but then sadly got ill. She was everything to the band because obviously we started it off together. We were all in South London and she lived in North London so of course that’s bloody miles away, North London it’s like a different country to us. So she came and lived with me and Mum and Dad and um yeah so we shared a room and of course we were really young at that point at that time. We had the right old laugh and we just sort of did a lot of growing up together really. She was and still is like an iconic image and her playing I still sort of get Shivers up my spine. She just was unique really. She would just pick up an instrument and just play it straight away.”

When asked how Lemmy from Motorhead helped the band in the early days
“People think that just suddenly (Lemmy) saw us and then it all happened all overnight you know well no it wasn’t as simple as that. We were actually touring around as Girlschool especially around Europe in my mum and Dad’s stolen van, poor Mum and Dad. They bought this van that they were going to turn into a camper van and go and touring around well. That sort of went out the window because we ended up commandeering it and just touring all over the place and put it into the ground. So we were touring for a couple of years but the thing is over here especially every time we played a punk Club they thought we were heavy metal we played heavy metal clubs they thought we were punks so we couldn’t win either way you know . But good friends of ours, a band called UK Subs they just recorded a single with a little independent company called ‘City Records and then ‘City Records’ asked us because we were great mates with them, asked us if we wanted to record a single and of course we jumped at it because you know it’s every band’s dream isn’t it you know um to get in the recording studio. So we knocked out ‘Take it all away’ (song) the single got some radio play and then Lemmy and Motorhead were looking for a band to support them on their first major British tour which was the Overkill tour and then he heard the single and then sort of saw pictures of us. Meanwhile we’d have already got given the 10 inch single of theirs a vinyl the Motorhead single and we thought bloody hell you know that’s a great Racket and then of course saw the photo of them thought oh my God look at them sort of thing you know. The next thing we know Lemmy’s invited himself down to one of our rehearsals so we didn’t know what to expect we were going oh God you know after just seeing the photos of him um but yeah of course we just got on like a house on fire. And he invited us onto the tour, cool tour and so that was that and so we were suddenly thrust into the bigger stages and the proper touring and finally we sort of found our niche because again it was like Motorhead were the same they were sort of crossover between the punk and rock.”

When asked about Lemmy’s most endearing qualities
“Oh he was the funniest I mean he was just hilarious he’s have you in stitches. Just really funny and really nice and so supportive and it wasn’t just us he supported as females he went on to support quite a lot of other females in rock. He did his bit for women and rock that’s for sure.”
When asked if she could define the new album in one sentence
“The new album is a slab of heavy metal rock and roll.

Lead single “Are You Ready?” sets the pace; a racy, raunchy, fun-saturated shapeshifter co-written with Alcatrazz’s Joe Stump that shows GIRLSCHOOL’s leathers may still carry the well-baked battle scars of decades past, but their songs and attitude are as fresh, fun, heavy, and catchy as ever before. There’s the addictive mototörcharged scuzz of “It Is What It Is”, the Wandsworth via Sunset Strip sway of “Bump In The Night,” the youthful, punky romp of “Up To No Good,” and the smart, sassy, rock ‘n’ roll hooks of “Believing In You,” with McAuliffe’s vocals sounding as sharp and raucous as ever. And if that isn’t enough, their raunch roars and rolls alongside Biff Byford (Saxon), Phil Campbell (Motörhead), and Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses) on a cracking cover of “Born To Raise Hell!” So throw away your inhibitions and join these spectacularly wild women on the most glorious of rock ‘n’ roll rides. Lemmy knew, so should YOU! WTFortyfive? will be released on 12” vinyl, digipak-CD, digital download and streaming and special D2C bundles.

Keyboard player James Thorley founded the band in 2017 with the intention to create signature music that focused its roots around the 80s AOR, Prog, and melodic rock genre, whilst delving into other areas of modern hard rock, and metal.

To date, ATLAS have released two studio albums through the European label AOR Heaven. Their second album, Parallel Love, charted in Japan at #36 and debuted in the Top 10 Amazon Classic Rock Albums Chart on release week. They have toured the UK sharing the stage with The Quireboys, Eric Martin (Mr Big), FM, Vega, Big Country, and Praying Mantis.

ALBUM TRACK BY TRACK

All Or Nothing
All or Nothing was written with an “album opener” in mind. We wanted to write a track that had a lot of energy, heavy but still having melodic elements, and with a huge hooky chorus. We wanted to represent elements of the whole album in one song, which was a challenge, but we always love to rise to a challenge!

You’re Not Alone
This was one of the first songs written for the album. It’s about coming out of lockdown and overcoming difficulties, depression and the general unknown that most of us felt during that time. It’s got a radio friendly approach, but we didn’t hold back with the big anthemic chorus.

One More Night
This song is built around a real proggy syncopated guitar riff with a classic AOR theme for the lyrics and chorus.

Another Heartbreak
“High energy” was a feeling we wanted to tap into with this album, and this track certainly has that! It’s about not being able to shake the memory of a previous love no matter how hard you might try, backed up with stacks of harmonies!

Tears
Tears is dynamic, bombastic, melodic, and powerful. It’s about always being there for someone no matter what, even when you know they don’t feel the same way anymore.

Unfamiliar Love
A very Def Leppard inspired riff and chorus helped build the foundation to this song. Who says you can’t have a drum, keyboard, and guitar solo trade off?

Just Like That
We wore our love for 80s AOR on our sleeves for this song. Huge catchy guitar/synth hook interplayed with a staccato chorus stacked full of harmonies, with an air guitar instrumental to top it all off!

Chasing Portraits I: Lonely Hearts
We’ve flirted with progressive rock on our previous two albums, but for this album we set out from the beginning to write a longer progressive piece, that could be split into three sections. Lonely Hearts starts with the devastation of loss and confrontation of loneliness, finishing off with a Kansas inspired guitar/Hammond trade off.

Chasing Portraits II: Closer to the Picture
Closer to the Picture deals with recovery and reflection and is one of the rarer synth driven tracks on the album.

Chasing Portraits III: Painted Memories

An epic finale to that Suite. The song itself is about the memories of past relationships being somewhat clouded by the negatives that caused that bond to end. We basically create our own narrative of our past and move on with our lives, sometimes forgetting the good that may have come from our experiences.

Bury A Lie
The heaviest track we’ve written to date.  The song was built around a 7-string guitar riff and features an awesome proggy instrumental section.

Best is Yet to Come
We wanted to end the album with a banger rather than an epic or a ballad! So, we saved the best until last, a Journey inspired melodic rock anthem with a huge sing-along ending.

At its founding, Weedeater rose like a doobie phoenix out of the ashes of BUZZOV•EN. When the cult sludge act called it a day, bass player Dave “Dixie” Collins teamed up with guitarist Dave “Shep” Shepherd and founded Weedeater in the harbor town of Wilmington about the year 1998.

Their crushing and massive first full-length ‘…and Justice for Y’all’ (2001) created an immediate buzz, while critics were struggling to put a tag on their sound. Nearly everybody agreed that stoner rock, doom, sludge and some crusty elements were part of the mix, which the band simply calls “weed metal”. The debut was produced by renowned engineer Billy Anderson (Eyehategod, Neurosis) as well as sophomore album ‘Sixteen Tons’ (2002). Weedeater went out to perform live with Corosion of Conformity and Alabama Thunderpussy among others.

After some detours of Dixie Dave, who played shortly with Bongzilla and Sourvein, third album ‘God Luck and Good Speed’ hit the world in 2007 and shifted the band’s focus slightly towards the stoner side. The latest full-length ‘Jason… the Dragon’ got delayed when vocalist Dixie Dave lost a toe due to an incident with his favorite shotgun. When the sludge driven album finally came out in 2011, shows in the US and Europe cemented the band’s reputation as a fierce live entity.

After signing to Season of Mist, Weedeater reissued their full back-catalogue on their new label. Yet the Bible Belt state of North Carolina, USA remains a fertile ground for hemp and stoner rock. Their latest album, ‘Goliathan’, makes the South smoke again. It’s a monster record that’ll blow your mind.

Line-up:Dixie Dave : Bass, vocals
Shep : Guitar, vocals
Travis T-Boogie Owen : Drums
