JOHN LODGE, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, has announced that he will be releasing his version of the iconic album ‘Days of Future Passed’, entitled ‘Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn’, to accompany his upcoming tour of the same name.

The album is to be released on CD as special fan club only release, and will be available at the upcoming shows starting July 18th, and through John’s website https://shop.johnlodge.com for pre-orders, with shipping on August 7th.

The album was recorded over the last year, and has grown from John’s current live show as he, and his 10,000 Light Years Band, lovingly recreate this classic album. The album also features a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES. It is being released as part of John’s celebration of the album ‘that changed his life’, and with the hope that it will continue to introduce fans to the original iconic recording. The album’s orchestration is by John’s long-term collaborator, and great friend, Alan Hewitt.

“November 2023 will be the 56th anniversary of ‘Days of Future Passed’. It’s incredible to look back on this album that changed my life, and that still has so much impact today on so many, and I felt that it deserved celebrating, and so I began rehearsals in 2021/2022 to bring this celebration to life on stage. What was important to me was to make this concert another milestone in the history of ‘Days of Future Passed’, and so I asked Graeme if he would record his poetry, ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Late Lament’, to include in my concert. Graeme gave me his blessing and said, ‘John, Keep the Moody Blues music alive’. We had a fantastic time putting the show together, with Alan, Duffy, Billy and Jason, and Jon Davison, giving me so much support and helping bring my vision to life. After the final rehearsals for the concert, I realised I should capture this new moment in time, although a reflection of the past, forever, by going into the studio and recording the album, ‘Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn’. I am hoping that this will bring a new generation of listeners to the album, that they then may rediscover the original recording, and the beautiful vocals of Mike Pinder, Justin Hayward, Ray Thomas and myself.  I dedicate this album to Graeme, Justin, Mike and Ray, to Tony Clarke, and to all the fans that are with me on this sojourn, no matter when you joined…”  John Lodge July 2023

The CD in Digipak will be available starting July 18th at John’s first show in Rockford, IL, and a vinyl album is due to follow in the Fall.  The album will also be available to stream and download from July 14th. The cover features a poignant photograph of John and his wife, Kirsten, taken by his daughter-in-law, Inga Wilson – for John, this was an image that perfectly encapsulated the idea of past and future and what this album means to him.

Go here to stream and download, https://slinky.to/DaysOfFuturePassed

The original album, released in 1967, came about when Decca were exploring stereo and full frequency sound and wanted the band to put the melodies of Dvorak’s New World Symphony to lyrics to make a ‘sampler’ album. The band decided to follow their own path, and the rest is history… but in a reflection of this, John wanted to also explore how modern fidelity will impact the album today.  He is therefore also working on a Dolby Atmos version that will be available for streaming later this year.

Joining John on the album is his 10,000 Light Years Band, comprised of long-term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards, plus Orchestration) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello).  Jon Davison of YES will also be joining him for his special renditions of “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon” plus the magical voice of Graeme Edge will be seen and heard via a special video and recording.

The tour kicks off on July 18th at the Coronado PAC in Rockford, IL, and then continues through the Mid-West and onto the West of the USA. The show will also feature a first half set of Moody Blues’ classics, including all of John’s hits, “Ride My See-Saw”, “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)”, “Isn’t Life Strange”, to name just a few of these classic and time-enduring hits.

Since their formation in 2014, Ukrainian blackened death/doom metal visionaries 1914 have told the gruesome tales of World War I, charting this inexorable path through history with their guiding debut album, Eschatology of War (2015). After a digital re-release in April 2021 and due to high demand, the album will now appear in various exciting physical fan editions, to be released August 4, 2023 via Napalm Records, along with a brand new Eschatology of War shirt motif.

Dive into the intense world of 1914 and re-watch the video for “Verdun” HERE

Inspired by the madness of war, Eschatology of War faces various events from the past, such as the Battles of Gallipoli and Verdun, the gas attack at Ypres, the Brusilovsky breakthrough, the Christmas truce and the bombing of London, just to name a few. Eschatology of War starts with the genuine intro “War In”, delivering tunes of an old military march, which was played for men going to war. “Frozen in Trenches (Christmas Truce)” presents a harmonious idyll to the melody of popular Christmas carol “Silent Night”, as the blaze of gunfire breaks in shortly after, while harsh vocals attack to transport nothing but death and decay. The album’s longest song, “Ottoman Rise”, stirs up the atmosphere even more with heavy guitar lines, thunderous black metal drumming and deep screams of despair. 1914’s uncompromising achievement of combining old school death and black metal, spiced with the approach of sludge and doom, can’t be pigeonholed.

Eschatology of War tracklisting:

1914 state:
“You can help us to win this war. Every sold t-shirt will be converted into a donation. Every donation will be converted into vehicles, helmets, armored plates, medicine and drones for our defenders. OOMPH! Reveal First Single + Official Music Video with New Singer ‘Wem Die Stunde Schlägt’

Legendary Neue Deutsche Härte pioneers OOMPH! have revealed the first single, “Wem Die Stunde Schlägt”, off of their 14th album, Richter und Henker, set to be released on September 8, 2023! The upcoming full-length kicks off a new era as it marks the first album with a new lineup, as CR4P and FLUX are joined by new vocalist DER SCHULZ.

The announcement of OOMPH!’s new record and first lineup change in 34 years was met with very positive reception across the board, and the album opener “Wem Die Stunde Schlägt” (en: For Whom The Bell Tolls) makes an immediate statement, propelled by a hefty dose of industrial metal.

OOMPH! on the lyrics of “Wem Die Stunde Schlägt”:
“The song is about recognizing what hour has struck and becoming aware of the situation you are in. It’s about not giving up. Even in hard times, you always have to get back up and try to come back stronger than before, instead of listening to those who would like to see you fail and only want to make you small.
The title is borrowed from the bestseller by Ernest Hemingway, whose great writing style we adore.”

The band adds on the video:
“The video is a symbolic representation of the song’s lyrics – stating that we always have a choice in which directions we go. In a flashback daydream of sorts, we’re told the story of a young woman at the turn of the century, who is condemned by mythical masked figures and led to the gallows because she apparently murdered her husband. The band is both the witness and the storyteller. The plot is not given away.
In addition, there are energetic and powerful band performance scenes. The video was shot in the impressive baroque setting of Bückeburg Castle and its mausoleum.”

Pre-Order Richter und Henker NOW

OOMPH! on the new album:
“Working together in this new constellation has spurred our creativity in the studio to the extreme. There will be some nice musical developments and surprises on the new album, Richter und Henker, without neglecting our typical OOMPH! constants. Even our usual “test listeners” say the album sounds unmistakably like OOMPH!
We can’t wait to finally present the songs to you and play them live on tour!”

Richter und Henker Tracklisting:
1 Wem die Stunde Schlägt
2 Richter und Henker
3 Soll das Liebe Sein?
4 Nur Ein Mensch
5 Schrei nur Schrei
6 Nichts wird mehr Gut
7 Sag Jetzt Einfach Nichts
8 Es ist Nichts, Wie es Scheint
9 Wo die Angst Gewinnt
10 All die Jahre
11 Wut feat. Joachim Witt
12 Ein Kleines Bisschen Glück

Richter und Henker clearly proves that OOMPH! return stronger than before with their new lineup, charging straight forward! Title track “Richter und Henker” captivates the listener with a mixture of hooky guitars and chanting vocals, while criticizing ignorant social movements. New wave influences are present on heavy and groovy anti-war anthem “Nur Ein Mensch” (en: Only A Human) – a future hit and strong sign against warmongering and empty slogans that force hatred and war. On “Wut” (en: Anger), OOMPH! is supported by none other than genre idol Joachim Witt.

Since their formation in 1989, OOMPH! has emerged as a highly influential band that has even inspired later Neue Deutsche Härte giants. With Richter und Henker, the Neue Deutsche Härte masters prove that they remain a leading force in the scene!

COGNITIVE Release New Single ‘Rot Eternal’

New Jersey’s bone-shattering death metal band, COGNITIVE, have just released a new single today titled Rot Eternal. Check it out here.

Here’s what the band has to say about the new track: “Rot Eternal was the second song we had written for our upcoming album, and when we did our pre-production recording we kept coming back to the song and saying ‘man this is like, REALLY awesome.’ We ended up tossing the idea around of releasing it as a stand alone single, and eventually went with it.

The single felt so cool to us with riffs repeating themselves, a gigantic slam in the middle, and the unexpected outro all felt so natural to us. Tying it all up is artwork by Dahmer Art which captures the song’s lyrical theme and everyone’s favorite topic…ZOMBIES! We hope you all enjoy this stand alone single, and keep an eye out for the new record next year!“

COGNITIVE is currently on tour with Portugal’s Analepsy for a month-long North American tour. The Quiescence Tour kicked off July 7th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and runs through August 5th in Brooklyn, New York. Additional support will be provided by Wormhole and NecroticGoreBeast. The tour follows COGNITIVE‘s recent US tour supporting Gorod.

About the band:
After releasing an EP and full length, COGNITIVE signed to Unique Leader Records in 2016 and released their album Deformity, which showed the bands dedication to their craft within a tale about their home states own legend about the Jersey Devil. Ramping up their tour schedule, the band continued to write and push themselves within the genre with technicality, speed, brutality, and songwriting, which came to shine through even more on the 2018 release Matricide, which displayed more focused effort while increasing speed and technicality even more. The band wasted no time in their touring schedule and hit the road supporting Fit for an Autopsy, Rivers of Nihil, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Vulvodynia, Lorna Shore and others, along with an appearance at Maryland Deathfest. COGNITIVE has become a touring machine with one goal in mind – always move forward.

Now with the release of their latest album Malevolent Thoughts of a Hastened Extinction (2022), the band has displayed more diversity and song writing more than ever and proves yet again they are never scared to explore new concepts musically and explore new territory.

WELMOED Present First Song ‘Verlossend Vuur’ from Debut Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on July 12, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: WELMOED. Leave a comment

WELMOED is a project by Thijs Mulders (Asklepeion, Misanthropia) that started in 2018. The maiden’s name WELMOED has been chosen because it resembles strength, to strive for, and willpower. Musically, it has not too much boundaries, yet it sets the tone for atmospheric rock / metal most of the time. Influences may vary, from a rock – ish song to blastbeats filled pieces that go hand in hand with tremolo picking shrieking guitars with an icy edge. Sometimes lush and quiet, other moments are filled with ugliness and rage.

Thijs wrote the entire material, and to realise the project as a whole, Veerle Kiliaan on vocals (SHE!)  stepped in, and so did her counterpart on harsh vocals: Bram Koller (Misanthropia). Hugo de Waal (Misanthropia) joined in on drums.

“Ask & Embla” is an album that lyrically uses themes about mythology, prevail and loss, and metaphoric references to deception through religion and such.

Music was mixed and mastered by Dion Vermaes at Dion Vermaes Audio Engineering. Cover artwork and layout was done by Jan Örkki Yrlund who cooperated with such bands like Amberian Dawn, Cytotoxin, Manowar, Korpiklaani, Týr and more. Band logo by Daniel Neagoe. Band photography by Pally JVisuals & Feey.

Tracklist:

01. Naga
02. Ask & Embla
03. De Zee en Haar Heimlijk Rijk
04: Legioen
05. Verlossend Vuur

Debut album will out digitally and on CD in cooperation with Polish label Via Nocturna. Release date is scheduled on July 28, 2023. Pre-order is available at webstore.

First song titled “Verlossend Vuur” you can listen below.
