Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to OverKill Singer Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth about the bands upcoming 20th studio album ‘Scorched’, which will be released April 14, 2023 via Nuclear Blast.
Bobby Blitz said this about the new album,” We used Colin Richardson (producer) again. This is his fourth project with us. He’s a friend. We trust the guy. He did a record for us from soup to nuts called ‘Killbox 13’ (2003).
He then spoke about the musical direction of “Scorched”, saying: “It’s eclectic. It’s diverse. It’s got different dynamics and characteristics. How do you make that in an OVERKILL record? It’s traditional heavy metal. It’s got mellow sections. It’s got groove. It’s got thrash. It’s got rock and roll. It’s got blues. It’s, like, all over the fucking map. But you have to sew those pieces together and then take the whole thing and try to make it — you know, put your brand on it. And I think that that’s what we succeeded in doing. And what’s directly responsible is the amount of time that we had.”
Blitz then was asked to define the new album in a few words he replied, ‘Scorched is where we’ve been and what we are.”

FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY states, “‘Hellions’ was a fun look back at some of our more brutal and fast-paced roots more akin to our earlier material. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Hellbound, the record which we all collectively feel really started things in motion for the band. It was a blast to channel the energy and excitement we had at that time back into our music in 2023. It’s only natural for bands to evolve and expand their sound over time, but we never forgot where we came from, so this one is for those who were here from day one!”
The Aggression Sessions is the follow-up to 2016’s The Depression Sessionsand follows the same 6-song mini album where each band offers an original single and a cover song.For this session, THY ART IS MURDER is covering Cannibal Corpse and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY is covering At The Gates whereas MALEVOLENCEis handling a song by American singer Anastacia.
THY ART IS MURDER and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY make the following joint statement: “Before we had even completed work on ‘The Depressions Sessions’ we knew a lifelong friendship had been forged between THY ART IS MURDER and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, and that we would have to do another variation of the project. ‘The Aggression Sessions’ concept was born almost immediately following the completion of the first iteration but has taken many years to finally find the time to record and release it amidst the chaotic touring and music release schedules of both bands. We wanted to take things back to some of our favorite inspirations for writing and performing heavy and aggressive music this time, encapsulating the tone of the EP title. We hope everyone enjoys!

With ‘Hidden One’ Christos Nikolaou, the band’s founder and composer returns with a fresh new sound and concise arrangements. Maintaining the orchestral integration in the epic symphonic style metal that was established on the previous release, each new song delivers a unique experience with a new vocal flare.
Mythodea is rejoined by the fretless guru, STEVE DI GIORGIO, who is also contributing as lyricist to these new compositions. Completing the lineup is the powerful Stefanos Meletiou of Cyprus on drums. The sound is made clear and powerful by the mixing and mastering of Matias Kupiainen of Finland’s Stratovarius. Each release has a unique conceptual art piece made by Gogo Melone.

German industrial thrashers PARITY BOOT are back in business after a long break! The band around multi-instrumentalist Mathias Riediger took a full 14 years to bring the successor of the 2009 album “Into Nothing” to the people. On May 12, the time has finally come! “Fast Forward” will be the name of the good bit, for the release of which the band has signed with Black Sunset/MDD.
You can expect a good 40 minutes of a mixture of industrial, thrash and a pinch of madness. The whole thing was produced in Hamburg’s Zenephant Studio, while Jörg Uken (Soundlodge) is responsible for the mastering. A first acoustic sample will be available soon, until then a first look at the cover artwork will have to suffice.
Furthermore, the band has digitally rereleased their debut a few days ago and made it available on all major streaming platforms for the first time. Check it out and be prepared!
MORRATH is a Polish death band formed by members from thrash metal band Prowler in 2020. Fans and reviewers of debut EP defined their style as being close to the American scene, comparing them to bands like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Suffocation and Incantation, also including elements taken from styles like slam and classic grindcore. Lyrics mainly cover topics like inner struggles and anti-religion.
Band is going to release their first full-length titled “Centuries of Blindness”. Krzysztof Kostencki from Tetra Wave Studio (SOTHORIS “Wpiekłowstąpienie”) is responsible for the production of the album. The album cover was created by the band’s bassist Mieszko Jankowski. Date of release is scheduled on April 20, 2023 and will be released in Europe by Metal Is The Law Productions and in America by Diabolus Production. The pre-order of the album will be launched soon on the band’s Bandcamp.
Band commentary about the album: “With “Centuries of Blindness” we want to express our understanding of death metal – our favorite genre, it expresses our feelings and emotions, our views. No less important was the willingness to release an album that will be good and worth returning to it – we have dreamt about it since Prowler times, at the beginning of our music voyage, when we even could not play our instruments”.
”Column Of Fire” is the second single from BLADE’s debut album which is scheduled to come out in summer 2023. This powerful Hard Rock song originated from drummer Henrik Hyöppönen’s composition and riff, and the entire band refined it into its final format. Pepe Tamminen has found an idea for lyrics about a witch-hunt and forbidden love at the end of the 14th century. The theme fits perfectly with the mood of the song, which varies from an atmospheric ballad to a punchy chorus – and certainly leaves no one cold. The main element of the song is a catchy guitar riff that hits your senses at the very beginning.
The song was recorded and mixed at Magnusborg Studios by Marko Kataja. Mastering was done by Svante Forsbäck, who is a well-recognized and trusted professional by many hard rock and heavy metal bands like Rammstein, Ville Valo, Sonata Arctica, Sunrise Avenue, Michael Monroe, etc.
BLADE is a new Finnish hard rock band that differentiates from mainstream artists by its uniquely cheery and explosive sound.
The members of the band have been touring together as a cover band since 2016, playing well-known rock classics from Led Zeppelin to Guns and Roses for the ever-hard-rock-hungry Finnish audience. The idea of BLADE’s own material started to form in 2021, as all the band members dusted off the material they had collected in their drawers, cumulating ideas for songs on the new album. Even the most dedicated hard rock fan’s expectations will be met with this charged rock album.
The members of the band live between Helsinki, the capital city of Finland, and Lahti, where the band also practices together, drawing raw power from the beautiful and brutal nature surrounding the city.
