Metal fans have been eager to hear what the new collaboration, ELEGANT WEAPONS, sounds like, after the formation of the band – comprised of Rainbow singer Ronnie Romero, Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner, Uriah Heep bassist Dave Rimmer, and Accept drummer Christopher Williams – was first announced last year. Now, the time is finally upon us to get a sneak peek of what lays in store from the quartet, with the new single/video, “Blind Leading the Blind”, which can be viewed and heard via these links:

Listen to the song here: https://ew.bfan.link/blind-leading-the-blind

“The video is great and gives a quirky and stylistic representation of the meaning of the song,”  explains  Faulkner.  “The main character is getting drunk on the power he is given by the people that trust him, only to be found out later when his followers really see the truth. When the power is taken away, he is seen for what he really is.”

ELEGANT WEAPONS’ debut full-length, Horns for a Halo (produced by Faulkner’s Priest bandmate, Andy Sneap and featuring album performances by Pantera’s Rex Brown and Judas Priest’s Scott Travis), will be dropping May 26th via Nuclear Blast Records, and can already be pre-ordered: https://ew.bfan.link/horns-for-a-halo

And shortly after the album’s release, the group plans on hitting the road, according to the guitarist. “We are very much looking forward to touring and our first tour dates are taking place in Europe starting in June 2023. Fans can expect heavy songs with catchy melodies, great vocals, and lots of riffs! We all live to play live, and can’t wait to take the ELEGANT WEAPONS out onto the live stage.”

As for the music, Richie describes it as “a mix of Jimi Hendrix, Priest, Sabbath, solo Ozzy and Black Label Society, but with a lot of melody, sort of old school and modern at once if that makes any sense, and actually down-tuned a whole step. There are a lot of guitar solos and the songs are on the heavier side. And even though there’s a lot of melody, it’s still going to shake your bones.”

Lastly, Faulkner sees a promising/long road ahead for ELEGANT WEAPONS. “As far as the future, we are all dedicated to giving this band the longest life we can. Live shows, tours and future albums. Growing with the fans along the way. The writing process for the second album is already underway and with live dates coming in thick and fast, we are looking forward to seeing how the future evolves for ELEGANT WEAPONS.”

And the new video for “Blind Leading the Blind”, is certainly a mighty first step.

UPPLOPPET Launch New Single ‘Thinking of Me’

Raw attitude meets bittersweet catchiness on Swedish garage rock outfit Upploppet’s new single “Thinking of Me”. The Gothenburg based 5-piece announced their collaboration with The Sign Records in late 2022 and launched the single “Golden Eyes”. Now they return with the explosive hip shaker “Thinking of Me”, recorded in Welfare Studios by Pontus Robertsson, who also mixed the track, and mastered by Hans Olsson in Svenska Grammofonstudion.

Upploppet will record a new album in the beginning of 2023, set for release on The Sign Records in the near future. Upploppet’s new single “Thinking of Me”, as well as their late 2022 track “Golden Eyes” are available now on all streaming platforms.

Christopher Svensson from Upploppet comments on the new single ”Thinking of Me”:

“I wanted to write a song that goes against the typical love song that usually consists of flattering the other person or chasing love, therefore the song starts from a person who has a cocky good self-confidence and describes other people’s perception of himself. In short, it’s about a self-righteous narcissist who thinks he’s the sexiest person in the room and that everyone else can’t get enough of him.

The song has a driving sound with simple licks and quick chord changes to capture the cocky attitude that the lyrics are supposed to convey. After all, that’s how rock n roll should be. Simple, quick and sexy.“

REDEMPTION Premiere Music Video for New Album Single ‘Remember The Dawn’

March 17, 2023 will see REDEMPTION release their much-awaited, new album I Am The Storm on AFM Records. Following previously-shared singles, the blistering album title track as well as “Seven Minutes From Sunset”, today, the Los Angeles-based outfit presents a brand new music video for the song “Remember The Dawn”!

Redemption belongs to one of the leading progressive metal bands in the heavy music world today. Formed in 2000 by guitarist / keyboardist / songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features iconic vocalist Thomas England of Evergrey, the rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and bassist Sean Andrews, as well as Vikram Shankar on keys.

As the album title already promises, I Am The Storm is a gripping, stirring, overwhelming and dramatic, new record by the power prog metal act. Combining unapologetic melodies and hooks with technicality, complexity and thundering riffs, Redemption once again occupies a unique place with its powerful, heavy, intelligent and deeply emotional music.

The new music video for “Remember The Dawn” is now streaming here:

Says band mastermind Nicolas van Dyk about the new single: “With out first two advance releases, we have emphasized the heavier side of Redemption and the economic melodic metal side of Redemption.  We have a third side — longer form songs with roots in progressive rock as well as metal, delivered in a cinematic style.  Remember the Dawn showcases this third side of Redemption, both musically and — thanks to Vikram’s video assembly — with the visuals of us performing the piece individually in-studio.  The meaning of the song touches on a familiar theme with Redemption: live is full of challenges and rewards, of ugliness and beauty, of despair and hope.”

I Am The Storm was produced by van Dyk, Vikram Shankar and sound engineer/guitarist Simone Mularoni (DGM), who – alongside Chris Poland (ex-Megadeth) and Henrik Danhage (Evergrey) – will be also featured as a guest musician on the album. The new Redemption record also contains two cover songs, ‘Turn It On Again’ by Genesis and ‘Red Rain’ by Peter Gabriel.

Slated for a release on March 17, 2023 via AFM Records, the album pre-sale is available at THIS LOCATION!

I Am The Storm track listing:

  1. I Am The Storm
  2. Seven Minutes From Sunset
  3. Remember The Dawn
  4. The Emotional Depiction Of Light
  5. Resilience
  6. Action At A Distance
  7. Turn It On Again
  8. All This Time (And Not Enough)
  9. The Emotional Depiction Of Light (Remix)
  10. Red Rain

The Pearl Clutchers (feat. Chris Poland)
The Far Side Of The Clouds (feat. Henrik Danhage)
