WIZARDS OF HAZARDS are a heavy metal band from Middle Finland. Sharing the same interest for vintage instruments and heavy music composing, they are doing their own music entirely through full analog signal chain. Their musical influences come from the recordings of the analog aeons, mostly 70’s and 80’s heavy metal, and their lyrics are inspired by bygone times, supernatural phenomenons and old tales & beliefs. After decades of jamming and performing as a trio, they shifted their shapes into a four piece and changed their name to WIZARDS OF HAZARDS.

A debut album END OF TIME came out 2020. Album consists of doomish, heavy riffed songs from the band’s early years, and three of those were pre-released on the BLIND LEADS THE BLIND EP on that same year – both releases came via Inverse Records. Recordings were made on RTM SM900 magnetic tape within two sessions in january and june 2020 under the brilliant guidance of analog wizard Anssi Kippo at Astia-studios, Lappeenranta Finland.

The BLACK WIZARD EP was released on december 2021 by Inverse Records, and it was a hats off to their roots with ep given the band’s former name. Those three, very old songs came from the same session at the Astia-studio november 2021 as all the songs of the second album SUPERNATURAL. Although most of the songs of their second long play were made long ago, the lyrics of the album are unfortunately valid and sadly true today also. The cover art presents stunning sculptures of Vilde Hage Aune, and all the songs were recorded again on magnetic tapes with help of Mr. Kippo in that doomy & riff-based, vintage sounding way of the WIZARDS OF HAZARDS.

Drawing influences from the likes of early Mastodon, Gojira, Pelican, Keelhaul, Russian Circles, and Mono, multi-instrumentalist, Dave Slattery, enrolled the talents of former IIenkus (Galway-based Metallic Hardcore) drummer, Rory Guyett for an instrumental album, packed with monolithic riffs, unpredictable arrangements, and balls-out HEAVY!

ROPEMAKER’s new single ‘Paean’ is another slab of contemporary progressive Metal that hits the senses from the outset with a low-end brutal bass line, before some Gojira-like riffing takes hold.

Speaking of the track, Slattery says; “The inspiration from this track comes from my love of doom and sludge metal. Bands like YOB, Crowbar, and Pelican have been favourites over the years. Doom metal places an emphasis on simplicity groove, and emotion which is are cornerstones of the genre, and these traits are hopefully represented in this track.”

Access the track via YouTube here, Bandcamp here, or Spotify, here.

Originally from Portarlington, Laois, Slattery began working on his debut album back in 2019 in Galway, where he has resided since 2004. The debut LP, entitled ‘Interwoven’ features eight brutal cuts of majestic technical, progressive-death compositions that delve into his psyche, resulting in a body of work that stands tall among todays flourishing underground Irish Metal scene.

What once began as a post-rock oriented project with Guyett, Slattery felt a growing disconnect with the music, and decided to steer his creativity in a much heavier style, to which he states; “I had been an avid Metalhead for twenty five years, and decided to put something together, that is far heavier, and more musically challenging than anything I had attempted previously”.

With the album set for release on February 24th, the first single, ‘Blue Fire For Bones’ listen here] sparked curiosity for this new project from fans of Technical Progressive Metal, as well as some critics who praised the energy and innovation of Ropemaker’s unusual sound.

‘Interwoven’ will be available from February 24th, via all popular streaming platforms.

SKINNER Releases Third New Single + Lyric Video ‘Wicked Whys’

SKINNER, the solo band featuring “The Metal Chameleon” Norman Skinner have released a 3rd single & lyric video for their song “Wicked Whys” from the upcoming album “The Dark Design” which is to be released Spring 2023.

Norman Skinner comments:

“I had planned to release a few singles and videos off the album and this song was one of the top choices from the beginning. It’s a very straight-ahead rocking tune with a lot of great melody and a catchy chorus. The song itself is about discovering one is in a relationship with a very dishonest and manipulative person. However, when trying to exit the relationship the other person suddenly says the right words and shows the proper emotions but it’s truly all a façade. In the end it’s hard to comprehend why a person acts the way they do and I’m sure some listeners will be able to relate with this song.

Skinner has released the singles “How Many Ways I Can Die” & “In Silence” and plan to release at least 1 more before the full album is made available.

“Wicked Whys” features performances by:

Vocals: Norman Skinner
Guitars: Abel III
Bass: Jim Pegram
Drums: Noe Luna
Keyboards: Aaron Robitsch

Mixed & Mastered by Zack Ohren (Castle Ultimate Productions)

In 2021, Skinner recorded and shared the Midnight (original Crimson Glory vocalist) cover song “Seven Angels”, which was the 1st new music to be released under the Skinner moniker since the full length album “Sleepwalkers” in 2014.
