South African DEADLINE Unleash New Single ‘Monuments’

The pioneers of the ‘New Wave of South African Heavy Metal’ DEADLINE are back yet again with the second single called ‘Monuments’ from their upcoming 3rd album,’Vitriol Inc’

Deadline openly bow down to the memory of 80’s Thrash Metal, Power Metal, Heavy Metal and on occasion Sleaze Rock, as they march with intent and pride towards the release of their 3rd album, ‘Vitriol Inc’ that will undoubtedly be their most daring release yet.

Frontman Jessy Switchblade shares that “Our previous guitarist Raven Chaos gave us ‘Monuments’ as a parting gift before he left the band. He always wanted to write something faster and less melodic. He gave us the shell of the song and we transformed it into what you hear today. I wrote a poem several years ago called ‘Monuments’ that I made fit over the riff. I wanted to give it the Thrash Metal treatment, so I sang directly over the riff, as opposed to coming up with a vocal melody.”

Jessy Switchblade further adds that “The song itself is inspired by the fall of communism, as well as the political-themed poem ‘Ozymandias’ by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Ultimately great liberators end up being the people that cause our and their demise. All great empires eventually fall due to greed. I suppose we are basically seeing something similar in our own country South Africa right now, although we never used our current state of affairs as inspiration behind this track. I remember being a pre-teen when the Soviet Union collapsed and was divided into the Commonwealth of Independent States, seeing the massive statue of Stalin destroyed and the people celebrating the collapse of communism. It tied up so nicely with the poem by Shelley. That image never left my mind, and I’m glad I could use it a song all these years later. What I wanted to say with this song is really that the more things chance, the more they stay the same.”

Wrighteous Mike (Drums), Judge Mental (Guitar), Jessy Switchblade (Vocals), Damian Dread (Bass) & The Skullprit (Guitar)

We are metal! We are fire! We are legacy! We are energy! We are power! We are Deadline!

From choosing a band name taken from a Testament song, to wearing their beautifully crafted battle jackets emblazoned with the names of their favourite heavy metal bands, the quintet is hellbent on bringing the nostalgia, exuberance, and blood thirsty passion of the 80’s without necessarily pigeonholing themselves in one sole genre.

Formed in Pretoria, South Africa in 2014, Deadline played their first show at a friend’s house party on 7 March 2015 and have not looked back since. 2 albums and an EP later, they have become the fore runners of the Old School Heavy Metal sound in South Africa which they have dubbed the “New Wave of South African Heavy Metal”. With 6 South African Metal Music Awards to their name, a dedicated fanbase who dub themselves the “Deadline Heavy Metal Crew” and an energetic, passionate live show second only to their heroes Iron Maiden, they march with intent and pride towards the release of their 3rd album, “Vitriol Inc” that will undoubtedly be their most daring release yet.

Led by the effervescent, high flying Frontman Jessy Switchblade, Deadline have undergone a few core changes during the pandemic, but have now solidified their line up around guitarists Judge Mental and The Skullprit (the last original member along with Jessy), bassist Damian Dread and percussionist and back up vocalist Wrighteous Mike. The quintet is hellbent on bringing the nostalgia, exuberance, and blood thirsty passion of the 80’s without necessarily pigeonholing themselves in one sole genre. Their music transcends genres, it transcends generations, it’s an ode to the decade that changed us forever. Sit down in your Lamborghini Countach, strap your seat belt, and let their crashing drums, pulsating bass rhythms, bright neon guitar riffs and screeching vocals take you back to your glorious metallic past! “Vitriol Inc” will be out in May 2023!’

GODSLAVE Release New Single + Video ‘Straight Fire Zone (Single Malt Edition)’

GODSLAVE have released their new digital single “Straight Fire Zone (Single Malt Edition)” on Metalville Records (Rough Trade).

With the release of the single, GODSLAVE also celebrate the premiere of their own whisky.

The world is spinning so fast right now… how nice would it be to stop it for a moment?

GODSLAVE invite you to do just that: to pause and consciously slow down. For this purpose, they offer you the band’s own whisky “Straight Fire”!

The noble droplet comes in two different sizes and is available at http://www.godslave.de/shop. For “Straight Fire”, a single malt Islay whisky was refined for 10 months in a 30l port cask, so the bottles are very limited and hand-numbered.

The German thrashers with the positive attitude celebrate the release with the single “Straight Fire Zone – Single Malt Edition”. In the accompanying lyric video, fans toast us all – the idea of the “Straight Fire Zone”: even if we can’t be together in one place, we can still feel community.

The song also features Youtube legend Rob Lundgren (MENTALIST among others) as guest vocalist, adding a special power metal touch to the thrash metal groover.

Listen to it, stop and enjoy the moment.

OCEANHOARSE Share Lyric Video for ‘Fall Like Dominoes’, New Album Out Now

Finnish heavy metallers OCEANHOARSE have released their highly anticipated sophomore studio album “Heads Will Roll” via Noble Demon. With eleven brand new tracks, the album seamlessly picks up where its predecessor “Dead Reckoning” (2021) left off and even goes one step further! “Heads Will Roll” is an album packed with tense arrangements, vocal harmonies and crushing riffs and a must have release for all fans of heavier but dynamic sounds!

Ben Varon on “Heads Will Roll”:

“Heads Will Roll is literally Oceanhoarse 2.0. We kept all the elements we liked the most from our first album, and kept building on that. I think Heads Will Roll is richer in dynamics, hooks, attitude and dirt. This time around we really wanted to capture the live vibe in the studio, so we rehearsed the songs properly and locked ourselves in a nice big studio for a week, where we banged out all the basic tracks together and chose the best takes at the end of the day. Most of what you hear on the album is from those live takes, even down to many of the guitar solos! I think you can really hear the difference, and feel the band as a living, breathing organism executing these songs, warts and all.“

To celebrate “Heads Will Roll” finally being available worldwide, Oceanhoarse have released a brand new lyric video for the album’s opening track “Fall Like Dominoes”.

“Fall Like Dominoes was the obvious choice for the opening track of the album, with its big, epic build-up. I love this song, to me it sounds like a mix between Metallica and Children Of Bodom, with a serious Hoarse-y twist!” Ben Varon comments.

“Heads Will Roll” is out now on Noble Demon and available for purchase at THIS LOCATION

“Heads Will Roll” Tracklist:

  1. Fall Like Dominoes
  2. Help Is On The Way
  3. Pryopen
  4. Brick
  5. Smoke Signals
  6. Waves
  7. Dead Zone
  8. Heads Will Roll
  9. Adrift
  10. Nails
  11. Carved in Stone

Oceanhoarse live:
03.03.2023 Tampere, FI – Hönö
04.03.2023 Helsinki, FI – Kuudes Linja (Record release show w/ Silver Bullet)

Oceanhoarse are:
Ben Varon – Guitar
Jyri Helko – Bass
Oskari Niemi – Drums
Joonas Kosonen – Vocals
