Our story starts with Patience realizing her home has become poisoned by hate, greed, and corruption. She makes a choice; she chooses to leave this place she has called home since birth. For once in her life, she sees everyone for who they really are, liars, cheaters, destroyers, killers of the land, pure evil at its fullest. She leaves and never turns back.

New York City’s hip-hop fusion rock band OXYMORRONS – who have trademarked the term Melanin Punk to define their hybrid sound and the culture they are curating – continue their ascendency with the announcement of their signing to Mascot Records.
Today, they have kicked off this next phase with a brand-new single and video for the monster anthem-in-waiting “Enemy.” The release comes just ahead of the band joining Bad Omens for their sold-out European and UK tour in February and March.
The cultural melting pot of New York runs through Oxymorrons veins and bleeds into the unique cocktail that makes up their signature sound. After years of being told they were too rock for hip-hop or too hip-hop for rock, they committed to creating music that defies the arbitrary rules of genre classification. This is emphasised in their hook-laden new single “Enemy,” which drips equal parts punk rock, throbbing electronica and swaggering hip-hop, all playing out through the eyes of a metaller in the belly of a mosh-pit.
The Queens-born brothers KI and Deee vocally bounce off each other with force and precision whilst guitarist Jafé Paulino and drummer Matty Mayz create a raging vehicle for the track – throwing musical styles in a blender and pressing crush. “When you’re creating change, it seems like pushback is a natural thing that occurs,” they say. “Push back from outsiders, family, friends and most of all yourself. Enemy is about Oxys being true to who we are and letting our individuality shine. Just because we’re comfortable being exactly ourselves doesn’t mean we’re against you. Once you understand and accept this, you will understand we are all one; we are not enemies!” Listen to the song on all streaming platforms HERE.
Shot and directed by Michael Danners / IamEyephotos, the “Enemy” video contrasts the sonic mood of the song by showcasing the band’s fun, light-hearted side, “We strongly believe in the duality of life and not always having to present so seriously,” they say. The video captures that ethos while playing off of the single cover art which introduces one of Oxymorrons new mascots, Ramel “Mel” the Melanin Punk Rocker. The visual shows the band tapping into their inner child and joyfully engaged in a water gun fight, alongside live footage, 90s tinged nostalgia, and artistically placed datamoshing. Watch the eye-catching video HERE.
President of Mascot Records, Ron Burman, welcomes the band with enthusiasm, sharing, “From the first listen I was hooked! Oxymorrons sound is so infectious and so New York, and when I saw them perform live I had goosebumps and was blown away! I love their music, their energy and their positive vibes & knew we had to work together. We are so happy to have Oxymorrons be on Mascot Records and be part of our Mascot Label Group family!
Since the release of 2021s explosive‘Mohawks & Durags’ EPon Jason Aalon Butler’s (Fever 333) artist collective 333 Wreckords Crew, the band have brought their relentless live show to crowds across the US and Canada, playing with the likes of Anti-Flag, Neck Deep, Boston Manor, The OBGMs, Senses Fail, Pop Evil, grandson, Set It Off, as well as stage owning performances at festivals like Rockville, Aftershock, Louder Than Life, Upheaval, So What and more.
The EP became a catalyst; NOVA TWINS dropped “Green Vision” onto their Black Curriculum charity compilation, and The OBGM’s featured a remix from the band on “The Outsah Tape.” Their infectious sound has picked up support from Billboard, The Fader, Complex, VIBE, Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, Ebro Darden’s Apple Music 1, Alternative Press, Kerrang!, Revolver, Upset, DSCVRD, Hot Topic and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Sanders and Daniel P. Carter
In February, Oxymorrons will be coming to Europe and the UK for their first tour, supporting Bad Omens for a sold-out run of 28 shows from 3rd February to 6th March. When asked about the tour, they shared, “We’re ecstatic to finally be coming to Europe and the UK! And with the bros in Bad Omens. We’re super grateful to them for inviting us. This will be our first time on that side of the world, and we cannot wait to meet all of our fans across the pond. We’re hyped to bring our Melanin Punk to our fans overseas.”
Witnessing their euphoric live energy is something special. “Playing live means the absolute world to us. It’s where we connect to our higher selves and display our greatest passions. It’s the place where we get to exchange our energy and purpose with the people in the audience. It truly is our church, our mecca, our place of higher consciousness. We bring everything we’ve got to every show and ensure everyone in attendance feels like they are becoming a part of our family/community and our movement.”
Prominent Dutch pop singer IVANA VAN DER VEEN, who has more than 220k subscribers on her YouTube channel, decides to change and get into Metal music. For this new challenge, Ivana invited the legendary Brazilian composer, producer and metal singer ALEX VOORHEES to be her partner in the new song and video “Fear vs. Me”. Alex called Bodão Arte Nula– in the photo below –, also a Brazilian producer, musician and composer, who sent great riffs. The song got a dark/gothic vibe, mixing doom-metal with shoegaze elements, creating something unique. The video was made by Gabby Vessoni, who has worked with bands like Shaman, Hatefulmurder, Fleesh (where she’s the singer) and Edu Falaschi.
FUTURE PLANS It was through participation and awards in the ArtistSignal International Contest – in which the most voted artist each month received $10,000 USD at the time – that Voorhees met Ivana, both being winners of the award. The partnership began in May 2015 with the music video “To Cast a Shadow”. Since then, Alex has written songs for five of her albums, including “Duality”, released in 2022. The successful partnership between Voorhees and Ivana seeks new challenges: to join a band and tour in Europe and Brazil, and they are open to invitations from the promoters and event organizers.
Bodão Arte Nula
About IVANA VAN DER VEEN Ivana’s statistics are impressive: prolific artist and workaholic, she released her first official video in 2007 at just 14 years of age and hasn’t stopped since. So far, she has more than 180 original compositions, 100 covers, 12 CDs – 7 of them released as LP’s – 1 DVD and 8 Blu-rays. Of these, four albums and 3 Blu-rays contain songs by Brazilian composer Alex Voorhees. All albums are available on major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Deezer, iTunes and others.
About ALEX VOORHEES Alex Voorhees, on top of being a composer and music producer, is also a metal singer. He is well known in his home country with the acclaimed band Imago Mortis, of which he has been a vocalist for over 20 years. Alex was also known previously for his participation in the band Dust From Misery, with which he participated on several Brazilian TV shows such as Jô Soares (SBT), Fantastico (Globo), MTV – New Bands, Stay Heavy (AllTV), along with others.
During his career as a vocalist, Voorhees was also present in important works along with other great Brazilian and international singers. In 2020, he participated in the DVD “X Years of Soul” of the rock opera project “Soulspell” along with names such as the Italian Fábio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot, Angra) and Andre Matos (Viper, Angra, Shaman). Voorhees had previously worked with Matos on the song “To Be …” for the project “William Shakespeare’s Hamlet”, along with other renowned artists in the Brazilian scenario, such as Edu Falaschi and Bruno Maia (Tuatha de Danann).
With a faithful fanbase, Voorhees’ bands performed very successfully in several states of Brazil, but the musician simultaneously always enjoyed composing for other artists, including very different styles of music. He has serviced the requests of names like Julia Crystal, Alexandre Cordeiro, Melissae’s, Rosmerta and the American artist Destyni. Alex’s musical versatility has been shown before, however, in his previous band Alquimia – mixing Rock with Brazilian rhythms.
In addition to composing, Voorhees took a taste for studio work and produced bands, soundtracks, often recording, creating arrangements and even playing all the instruments in the process of creating complex orchestrations.
STEVE VAI and Favored Nations / Mascot Label Group have released VAI/GASH digitally and on CD, out now. The vinyl album will follow on February 24.
He shares, “Vai/Gash was written and recorded in somewhat of a stream of consciousness in 1991 within perhaps a 2-week period as an answer to my desire to have a particular kind of music to listen to when I was riding my Harley Davison Motorcycle with my friends. One of those friends was John ‘Gash’ Sombrotto, who is the powerful singer on this record. It’s reminiscent of a certain type of rock music I enjoyed as a teenager in the 1970’s. These recordings sat on the shelf for over 30 years and are being released now in 2023.” The three songs presented in to the release are “She Saved My Life Tonight” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PY28ih-Sbg), “In The Wind,” (https://youtu.be/AkbnEj2yDw0) and “Busted” (https://youtu.be/O2U5pSbFSIg).
Steve Vai Shares Personal Message:
John “Gash” Sombrotto was born in Queens, New York and as a youth was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. In 1977 at the age of 21, he endured a serious accident that caused his body to catch fire while plunging 30 feet onto a barbed wire fence. Vai wrote in the liner notes, “The doctors told his family that he had third degree burns over 60% of his body, and that if he even survived, there was a strong possibility that he would lose his right arm and left leg. While in the Burn Unit, he endured excruciating pain, especially when given the intense daily cycle of hot baths for his burns. He soldiered on, and after a month he was finally discharged from the hospital. Luckily, no limbs were amputated. He was, however, left with a partial left ear and layers of skin grafts over his neck, arms, legs, and entire chest. The stories he told about his recovery and the excruciating pain involved were crushingly gut wrenching. But he survived, and eventually thrived again. He made his way out to Los Angeles in 1982 and got right back up on his motorcycle.”
Vai met John through a mutual friend, Mark Cimino. They bonded over biker culture, and he choose the name “Gash” as a nickname. Vai wrote, “…I’ve observed many people interacting with him on our numerous motorcycle road trips and other adventures. At first sight, many people could be taken by his bald head, scarred neck and burnt-off ear. Looking as he did and riding a Harley it was easy to assume he was perhaps a tough, menacing biker with a nefarious attitude, but after engaging with him for even a minute, his charm and magnetic charisma had them laughing in their shoes and completely enjoying his uplifting presence. He endeared people with his wit, warmth, and sparkle. John hit it off instantly with the most unlikely of people of every age, color, size, political or sexual persuasions. He was non superficial and never judged people. This allowed his engaging personality and intoxicating charm to draw you in. Under all those scars was a bold and fearlessly warm heart that can be seen in his disarming and big soft blue eyes.”
He continues, “…something in me wanted to get him in the studio and see how he would belt over these biker type songs I had demoed, but nothing could have prepared me for the voice that came out of his mouth. I had to think, off course he sounds like that because that’s him, confident, authentic, fearless but with a lighthearted intention. This was the voice I wanted to hear wailing over these slamming rock tracks. I was stunned. Around that timeframe I was also starting to launch work on ‘Sex and Religion’ and was hoping to eventually record more than the 8 songs I had laid down with John for an alternative project, but that was proven impossible. On September 7th, 1998, two days after my father had passed away, the phone rang, and it was John’s beloved girlfriend Nancy. Her voice was quaking, and I somehow knew what she was going to tell me. ‘John was in a bike accident and was killed’.”
After three decades, Steve Vai has finally shared this master with The World. In his opinion, “He would have absolutely been the greatest rock lead singer you would ever want to know. All the elements were in place, but he was gone. Disheartened, I put the entire project on the shelf, and would listen to it at least once a year for the past 30 years, especially around the anniversary of his passing. Then recently something compelled me to want to put it out now. I wish you would have had a chance to get to know John. I believe you would have loved him just as we all did. For now, he is ‘In the Wind’.”
Steve Vai will resume the Inviolate World Tour in Europe this March. On the 24th, he’ll commence the tour in Lisbon, Portugal and wrap that run on May 7 in Helsinki, Finland on his way playing gigs in Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia, Turkey, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, and Estonia.
Future touring plans will be announced in the coming weeks as the Inviolate World Tour will visit most continents across The World.
Scandinavian garage rock meets bluesy licks on Åskväder’s new single “Don’t Worry”. An uplifting track inspired by the untroubled mentality commonly found in the group’s hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden, “Don’t Worry” follows Åskväder’s late 2022 single and video release “Cyclops”. Both of these new tracks were recorded during the second half of 2022, and are out now on all streaming platforms via The Sign Records.
Åskväder on “Don’t Worry”: “Don’t Worry is a song that came to life whilst Martin was noodling some jazz stuff on a beautiful summer night not long ago. The song is based on a sophisticated melody that ventures through a landscape of notes seasoned with a catchy groove and finally it concludes in a powerful chorus. Our thought of spicing things up included a key change, the first one in the history of Åskväder, preceded by an energetic yet tender guitar solo and we are very happy with the final results. We have created a bombastic and epic piece with beautiful lyrics about solving existential anxiety with a “Don’t Worry (about it)”- mindset, something we commonly do in our hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden.“
February 3, 2023 sees Boston-based hard rockers LANSDOWNE release their forthcoming studio album, entitled Medicine, through AFM Records.
Ever since they took the hard rock world by storm, the band built its name the old fashioned way – on the road; having performed countless shows internationally, including a 2007 tour for the troops across Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Kuwait, as well as sharing the stage with rock heavyweights such as Theory of a Deadman, Puddle of Mudd, Creed, Black Stone Cherry, Pop Evil, and more.
In their 15+ years as a band, they have achieved two billboard charting radio singles, over 100 million streams and views, and have licensed songs to major brands such as iRobot, the NFL, MTV, and more. Comprised of Jon Ricci (Vocals), Shaun Lichtenstein (Lead Guitar / Vocals), Glenn Mungo (Drums), Josh Waterman (Guitar / Vocals), and Mike LaRoche (Bass), LANSDOWNE has been a force to be reckoned with since emerging into the music scene in 2006.
Gearing up for their upcoming record release and following previously-shared singles, “Burn Brighther”, “Halo” as well as the album title track, today, LANSDOWNE are presenting a brand new music video for rock anthem “Filthy”!
“We’re all affected by addiction, either as the addict or somebody that loves an addict and wants to see them get help,” says singer Jon Ricci. “The world is more connected and yet more isolated than ever. Drugs, alcohol, sex, pain, social media, success – We’re all addicted to something and we’re often alone with our thoughts and problems, when what we really need is a conversation and support. We turn inward when what we really need is to reach out and to be reached out to. Filthy is a look inside those addictions, how they can take over our lives, and what can happen when we try to go it alone.”
Medicine will be out on February 3, 2023 via AFM Records. Pre-order your album copy at THIS LOCATION!
