Regina Banali & Alex Grossi: “A good possibility that there are more Quiet Riot unreleased tracks”

Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice spoke to Quiet Riot’s director Regina Banali (wife of the late Frankie Banali) and guitarist Alex Grossi about the bands new unleased Quiet Riot track featuring Kevin DuBrow on Vocals. Plus the two give updates on the band.

When asked about the lost re-imaged song with Kevin DuBrow on vocals
“Twenty years ago we wrote it. The song came off of a CDR.  We worked for a weekend out in Vegas where Kevin lived and then he came to the airport and give me a CDR of what we did. So I dumped the CDR into my iTunes which got transferred to an iPod and then disappeared. So the CDR is long gone, that was the only copy there was. The song was guitar and vocals on an iPod we found last year.  We also had a bunch of drum tracks from Frankie (Banali) to use.  We got together in the studio and figured out that it could actually work extracting it off the iPod. I added some guitar solos, Regina played tambourine and basically Rudy (Sarzo) finished it up.  And it came out it came out really good. Out of necessity we had to go with the with the tracks we had to work with.  Kevin recorded (that Song) in his home studio  in  2003 and he had a nice microphone and he had the right pipes and thankfully it all translated to 2022. To give you an idea how long we worked on it, the last mix that we sent in to get mastered is mix number 39. There was 39 revisions on that song. ” Alex Grossi

“That guy AJ (Alistair James) that we worked with is a genius editor. He really took it apart and and nuanced every little note and we really took it in and listened and we played around with it and we tried things and we lived with it for a while. Then we tried out different things and we lived with that for a while and we really took our time with it and just babyed this until it was perfect. It was over the course of months. ” Regina Banali

When asked if there were more unreleased Quiet Riot songs
“There is so much stuff in my garage and in storage units that I have to take apart with formats that I don’t even know how to play things on. So it’s entirely possible that there’s more but I don’t know.” Regina Banali

“I know that I wrote about seven or eight songs with Kevin during that time a couple of which ended up on Rehab ( Quiet Riot Album). Based on once we get into all the cdrs and all the files, there’s definitely more out there. It’s just a matter of if we can dig it up and if we can make it work the way this one did. Thankfully we have AJ  who’s crazy how talented and this is right up his alley. It’s not only a production thing, it’s a digital editing thing because it’s all after the fact.  So yeah I’d say it’s a very good possibility. “Alex Grossi

Legendary rock band Quiet Riot has just re-released “REHAB: RELAPSED AND REMASTERED” via Red Samurai Music. The album includes a previously unreleased track entitled “I Can’t Hold On,” originally written and demoed by Kevin Dubrow and Alex Grossi in 2003. The finished track features a hauntingly powerful vocal from DuBrow and is a semi-posthumous reunion of DuBrow, Frankie Banali, and Rudy Sarzo. The song was edited and produced by Alistair James, who most recently engineered for Joe Perry and Johnny Depp on the latest “Hollywood Vampires” release “Rise.”

ROTTEN SOUND have firmly established themselves as one of the leading acts of the grindcore scene. Expertly wielding the fierce brutality and massive aggression of their genre, the Finns add intelligent songwriting, effective arrangements, and musical proficiency as well as subtle death metal elements to their sound.

Their forthcoming album ‘Apocalypse’ embodies those aforementioned virtues to the point. The full length delivers eighteen short sharp chops that hit home perfectly.

ROTTEN SOUND was conceived in the city of Vaasa, Finland by guitarist Mika Aalto in 1993, who was soon joined by vocalist and word-smith Keijo Niinimaa. The duo still remains in place, while the original members in all other positions have been replaced several times until today.

The Finns can field an impressive catalogue of now eight highly acclaimed studio albums, eight EPs, three split singles, a single, and a live DVD. Furthermore, ROTTEN SOUND have already conquered the stages of all major metal and hardcore oriented festivals and also toured in regular intervals alongside such renowned acts as MALEVOLENT CREATION, PHOBIA, DISFEAR CARCASS, MUNICIPAL WASTE, EXHUMED, NAPALM DEATH, and PIG DESTROYER – among many others.

With ‘Apocalypse’, ROTTEN SOUND are gearing up their musical juggernaut just in time before crushing stages all over Asia and Europe this spring.

Finnish death metal band OF SPITE releases their second full length album “Riddle Redemption” on March 31st 2023. The theme of the album is madness and twisted reality. Of Spite was founded in Finnish city Kotka in 2014 and they combine elements of 90’s death metal and progressive rock in their sound.

“The story of this song was created in a mood of nightshift-angst with a terrible rage-despair-apathy mix. First we weren’t sure about this track as our sound technician produced also a straight-forward version of this one by removing the kind of stumbling heavy riffs that we actually liked. We talked the thing through with the band and decided that the stumbling stuff is our stuff. But unfortunately on that point the original tracks seemed to be lost. Luckily the tracks were found after a search because this is the way this song works. This is also the only track on the album with completely Finnish lyrics.”, the band backgrounds.

STATIC X Announce May 2023 Australian Tour with Special Guests SOil

From the moment Wisconsin Death Trip was released to an unsuspecting world, Static-X stood above. Their industrial alt-rock hybrid “Evil Disco” shook metal from its stagnant state and redefined what can be done with heavy music.

Each subsequent album enhanced and cemented the band’s well earned reputation.

In 2019, founding members Tony Campos, Koichi Fukuda and Ken Jay recruited an unidentified mask wearing enigma on vocals known as Xer0 and hit the road to celebrate the band’s legacy, the anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip and as a memorial to fallen frontman Wayne Static.

The love, esteem and respect for the band that give so much at every live show was reflected back to them from fans, critics and peers alike.

“After witnessing the band’s set in NYC’s Sony Hall, you can leave all preconceived notions at the door. Static-X is a wild and crazy good time to be had. An impassioned and unforgettable performance. If you have the opportunity to see Static-X, GO. Don’t hesitate, just GO!” – Music Existence

This May, Static-X return to Australia to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their highly acclaimed album Machine with a setlist that includes a slew of songs from their expansive career; from their iconic debut, Wisconsin Death Trip, through to their latest and aptly titled Project:Regeneration Vol 1.

“We are so excited to finally get back to Australia. We plan to play most of the songs off of both Machine and Wisconsin Death Trip as well a number of nice surprises. It’s going to be one for the ages and we can’t wait to get out there and celebrate 20 years of our Machine record while we continue to remember all of the good times that we had with Wayne and to share it live and loud with all of our Aussie fans. It’s going to be awesome!” – Tony Campos

“The signature sound of that metallic, disco thumping, modern metal 1-2 punchy dance beat is well placed in almost every track on here, (Project Regeneration) really is the best of what Static-X is.” The Rockpit

Joining Static-X for the tour are SOiL; pioneers of a sound that gave the world bands such as Godsmack, Spineshank and Mudvayne, SOiL’s influence goes deep. Frontman Ryan McCombs powerful vocals spawned a thousand imitators and they were one of the leading acts to modernise rock at the turn of the century. The band will be performing their groundbreaking album, Scars, in full as well as other favourites.

“SOiL prove once again that they are a timeless band. An incredible performance from one of the most underrated and important acts of recent times.” – Ramzine UK
