MORK to Release New Album “Dypet” on March 24th

Following the release of 2021’s ‘Katedralen’ MORK return this year with a new opus – ‘Dypet’, which is due for release on Peaceville Records on 24 March 2023.

‘Dypet’ sees MORK create a miasma of grim and frost-bitten riffs and harsh vocal melodies, marking the next logical evolution to come from the brilliant mind of Thomas Eriksen. The album simultaneously pushes new ideas forward yet still retains the signature foundations of ice cold hypnotic Black Metal.

Thomas Eriksen comments “It is with great pride that I am able to present and experience the release of my sixth full length album. I put every single drop of myself into the process of shaping MORK’s music. Perhaps even more so with this new album. As the album title, which translates to “The Deep”, something from the depths has been brought to the surface, “Dypet” was inspired by my life over the last couple of years, the thoughts, feelings, passion and the evolving of creative free will. Dive in and let yourself sink into the abyss. “

The album also features a special guest appearance from HJELVIK, the former singer of fellow Nordic legends Kverlertak, on ‘Hoye Murer’. It also delves into the world of analog synth’s adding a different but no less hellish soundscape to MORK’s palette.

‘Dypet’, Norwegian for ‘abyss’ promises to ring true to its name delivering eight brand new tracks that feature Thomas Eriksen’s signature Black Metal howls and caustic guitars. The album was once more performed, recorded and mixed by Eriksen with engineering assisted by Freddy Holm whilst mastering was carried out by Jack Control at Enormous Door (Darkthrone).

David Thiérrée also makes his return now on his third collaboration with MORK. His artwork that has become just as synonymous with MORK’s sound. The piece is inspired by the album’s theme of “Draugen/Cthulhu”; also featured within the art is a crest created by Jannicke Wiese-Hansen.

The inspiration behind the album’s title track lies in H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos but with a Nordic twist. Using the Norwegian coastline as it’s setting, the artwork illustrates a mysterious cult that now worships the ‘Draugen’ (a mythical sea ghost in Norwegian lore) paying homage to the sea dwelling beats of Cthulhu.

‘Dypet’ is not a concept album and the themes of hatred, death, betrayal, inner demons and misanthropy will find fans of Black Metal right at home.

‘Dypet’ will be released on the following formats which are available to pre-order here: https://mork.lnk.to/dypet

KÄRBHOLZ Release Video for New Single ‘Unter Ferner Liefen’

KÄRBHOLZ present the official video for “Unter ferner liefen”, the second single from the upcoming new studio album “Kapitel 11: Barrikaden” (Metalville Records – street date 24.03.2023).

„Unter ferner liefen schon immer ich und mein Verstand.“ A confrontation with the demon within us that keeps us falling into the same trap. In the endorphin rush we believe we are invincible, even immortal. Until our spirit slaps us in the face and says: “How could you do it again? But with time we make peace with this demon. We hold our own in this balancing act between euphoria and pain, between happiness and suffering. The last will be the first? Well, at least they’ll cross the finish line. And anyway, why always be first? It’s lonely there. An ode to irrationality.

KÄRBHOLZ – Kapitel 11: “Barrikaden”

It will be 18 years in 2023 for the 4 friends of KÄRBHOLZ from the tranquil town of Ruppichteroth in Western Germany.

Some people might think that at some point the wear and tear must show. Not at all. Because: the forced break of the past two years was by no means just a stroke of bad luck for Torben (vocals), Adrian (guitar), Stefan (bass) and Henning (drums). True to the motto “The break is also part of the music!”, the time was used to catch their breath, recharge and creatively come together and reunite in the rehearsal room. Once again, the four guys were supported by the producer team Eike Freese (Chameleon Studios) and Alexander Dietz (Heaven Shall Burn, Chemical Burn Studios).

On Kapitel 11: “Barrikaden” you can hear 11 pieces. Songs that tell stories from life, sometimes in a small, sometimes in a big way. The opener and namesake BARRIKADEN, which questions entrenched social structures and interpersonal beliefs with a hard metal edge. The vehement RAUBTIER, which tries to reawaken the same. UNTER FERNER LIEFEN… “always me and my mind”. An ode to one’s own irrationality. Or also the brute EINS GEGEN EIN, which longs for peace with itself, comes to the conclusion that in the battle with itself – unfortunately – there is usually no winner, before it betrays its true, all-encompassing intention in the end. These are some examples that make clear where KÄRBHOLZ have their musical influences. There’s more “Killswitch Engage” in here than “Die Toten Hosen”. That makes it hard to pigeonhole the songs.

But of course, not all that glitters is metal. The musical range of the album is proven by songs like the poem DER ZUG set to music, the “almost crossover” brawler MUT GEGEN PERSPEKTIVE or GAR NICHTS, which alternates between bittersweet harmonies and rigorous reckoning with false friends.

KÄRBHOLZ – Kapitel 11: “Barrikaden” is a good 40-minute musical journey through the various corners of the KÄRBHOLZ cosmos, but without ever losing itself. An album that usually only reveals its musical complexity at second glance, but in the end leaves you feeling good and sends you on another journey of discovery.

Kapitel 11: “Barrikaden” will be released on CD, vinyl, as a fan box and digitally.

Solo black metal project BIZARREKULT is now sharing the official music video for the title track from its upcoming sophomore full-length, ‘Den Tapte Krigen!’ Meaning “The Lost War,” the record will be released via Season of Miston January 27, 2023, making it BIZARREKULT‘s debut to the label! The song and video can now be found at THIS LOCATION.

BIZARREKULT mastermind Roman V. comments: “‘Den Tapte Krigen’ (The lost war) is a reflection on the everyday battle that consumes everything inside and outside, exploding the minds and deforming our  personalities. Is it worth it? What do we gain? How much (and whom) do we loose on the way to “victory?

“A bit of classical ‘Don Quixote’ by Cervantes plus a bit of post-modernist Pilevin ‘Life of Insects’ might hint on how the lyrics, choice of languages and visuals are connected.”

‘Den Tapte Krigen’ can be pre-ordered HERE and the album can be pre-saved on all digital streaming services HERE

The cover artwork for ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ was created by Ivan Gladkikh.

Since the genre’s inception, black metal has been ruled by lone wolves. Individuals who blur the lines between “masterminds” and “madmen,” creating in solitude and willful confinement. From first and second wave purveyors such as BATHORY and BURZUM to this century’s revivalists like SAOR and PANOPTICON, these anomic souls have made incomparable contributions to the dark arts. And in 2022, BIZARREKULT paves a new yet familiar path, establishing itself as one of the cult visionaries of this decade.

Before finding his way to music, multi-instrumentalist Roman V was first a poet. Since childhood, Roman found an outlet in writing and by 2006, he created BIZARREKULT as an auditory accompaniment to his verbal expressions. “BIZARREKULT since the beginning was a quest of identity and philosophical search for answers on the questions that bother the mind at night and day,” explains Roman.

Despite the project’s inception 16 years ago, BIZARREKULT’s music did not make its debut until the release of ‘Vi Overlevde’ in 2021. As he started feeling challenged by the declining state of the world, Roman pursued a new path and decided to go straight to the environment that incubated and birthed the genre that he loves. As he relocated from Siberia to his current home of Norway, his new surroundings had its intended purpose and greatly impacted his musical journey. “After some initial recordings the project was set aside in order to deal with increasing mass challenges from the surrounding world. And then it ended up getting a spark a decade later in a different environment, nature, language and culture. So distant, but so close. Norway has become my second home and the last few years that led to revitalization of BIZARREKULT were spent on reflecting on myself, meaning, purpose and reuniting with the things that were important – art and creativity.”

Meaning “We Survived,” ‘Vi Overlevde’ was a very intimate, vulnerable, and personal offering. Roman describes the record as “a testament to survival through personal crisis” and notes that it is “filled with reflections on childhood, family and societal relations.” The musician took care to ensure that the record delivered a comprehensive package, aligning the music, artwork, and lyrics with exact precision.

As the world was collectively reckoning with the turmoil of year two of a global pandemic, the album’s message gave many hope. Fans started to emerge, reacting to the record with their own artistic interpretations as a way to pay tribute. The album also won the hearts of the media, appearing on a handful of “album of the year” lists, including scoring a third place position from Sweden’s biggest newspaper, Aftonbladet.

Now, BIZARREKULT is ready to enter a new chapter, forging a new union with Season of Mist and completing the work on its sophomore full-length, ‘Den Tapte Krigen.’ Meaning “The Lost War,” ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ thematically picks up the thread from where ‘Vi Overlevde” left off, but sees a musical evolution as BIZARREKULT continues to find and establish its identity. “The main message of ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ is about a constant war inside our lives, war with ourselves, our closest ones, our societies,” says Roman. “It’s a war in which we can lose everything, including our personality, faith, honour and dignity. However, similar to ‘Vi Overlevde’ that ends on a rather positive note, ‘Den Tapte Krigen’ contains a message of hope and reconnection, of necessity to make a peace with yourself, accept what you are, your identity, and share forgiveness and love. This is the only way out of the vicious circle.”

Studio line up:
Roman V.: vocals
Ignat P.: guitar, bass
Alexander P.: drums
Dina: vocals

Mixing + Mastering: Miguel Tereso – Demigod Recordings
