STORMO Release New Single ‘Endocannibalismo’

Italian post-hardcore group STORMO are today premiering Endocannibalismo, the title track and third single to be taken from their upcoming fourth album, via Decibel Magazine. The single sees STORMO incorporate a further experimentation within their hardcore punk sound, with sludge and industrial influences playing a prominent role on Endocannibalismo.

STORMO’s new album, Endocannibalismo, is out on February 10 via Prosthetic Records.

LISTEN TO ENDOCANNIBALISMO VIA DECIBEL HERE.

Endocannibalismo is now available on all streaming platforms.

Speaking on the single premiere, STORMO vocalist Luca Rocco comments: “When writing Endocannibalismo we tried to create an industrial and sludge based sound, primarily by experimenting with microtonal scales. We tried to keep it simple and harsh; repeated patterns and a circular ending recall the whole album concept which is cut to the bone in the lyrics.”

Formed in 2007 in the Dolomite Alps region of Italy with a deep admiration for their native country’s hardcore punk luminaries in La Quiete and Raein, as well as eighties and nineties cult heroes in Negazione, Wretched and Indigesti. STORMO’s steady rise from unassuming beginnings has been one of consistently stirring songwriting. Having amassed over 400 shows across Europe and the UK – including support slots to Converge, Full of Hell and La Dispute, as well as appearances at Fluff Fest – STORMO’s next chapter sees the band fully come of age.

Sequestered into isolated reflection throughout 2020 and 2021, it was not long before the band found themselves ruminating on concerns far bigger than themselves; namely death and ecological endings. The end not only of themselves, nor the human race as a whole, but of the world as we know it. Upon discovering Brazilian photographer Claudia Andujar’s work on the Yanomami tribe, STORMO soon found themselves intrigued by the concept of endocannibalism – the practice of which includes consuming parts of dead relatives in a display of mourning and to free the deceased’s soul – leading the band to take on death and egotism as central influences for Endocannibalismo.

Lyrically, Endocannibalismo was written entirely in the band’s native tongue; partly as a byproduct of the albums nocturnal and instinctive writing process and partly in honour of their history as a band. Recorded and mixed by Giulio Favero (OvO, Buñuel, Zu) before being placed in the hands of Giovanni Versari (Muse, Raein, Verdena) at La Maesta for mastering, Endocannibalismo’s 11 tracks possess a crystalline clarity to service STORMO’s surging blastbeats, spiralling rhythms and noise punk cacophony, whilst staying true to the each songs deep seated primal nature.

Seeking to tie together the whole process visually, STORMO took to artificial intelligence when creating Endocannibalismo’s art. Utilising specific prompts, the AI render was put through stages of mutation before culminating in its final form. A haunting graphic representation of living beings in a state of constant death and rebirth.

Endocannibalismo tracklist:
1. Valichi, Oltre
2. PV77
3. Sorte
4. Spire
5. Anabasi
6. Frame
7. Endocannibalismo
8. Disequilibrio

Hailing from Australia, old school Black Metal veterans VAHRZAW have unleashed their brand new track “Phosphorescent Sunrise”, the third and final single from the band’s upcoming fifth studio album “In The Shallows Of A Starlit Lake”, which will be coming out on January 27 via Bitter Loss Records.

A constant in the Australian underground, having formed 30 years ago, Vahrzaw‘s new album will be the follow up to last years critically acclaimed “The Trembling Voices Of Conquered Men”, and shows a return to the bands early Black Metal roots. “In The Shallows Of A Starlit Lake” is a total of 7 tracks of raw, cold Black Metal, incorporating atmospheric soundscapes and comes in at over 40 minutes!

Vahrzaw comments: “Superficially, Phosphorescent Sunrise is a story about a girl who stalks and butchers a dog. The audience is witnessing the birth of a serial killer. But, at it’s core, it’s an exploration of Freud’s concept of displacement. The girl is angry with someone more powerful, but she cannot express this anger. So, she lashes out at something safe; the dog.“

“In The Shallows Of A Starlit Lake” is available for pre-order HERE

  1. The Amber Glow Of The Gaslight
  2. In The Shallows Of A Starlit Lake
  3. Phosphorescent Sunrise

Forest Gang TROLD Release Debut Album “Der Var Engang…” in May

Once upon a time… A bunch of trolls from the dark north. Deep in the caves of the woods, they partied all night long to their own tunes of flutes, mandolins, and accordions. They mostly surrounded themselves with clubs of meat and mugs of mead but also liked a princess or two. Although they were some lazy bastards, they still traveled the vast kingdom to play their trollish music for the good folks. Their tales of adventure and other fairy tales have now become their debut record “Der Var Engang…”, that will be released in May via Mighty Music.

“We at TROLD are incredibly happy and grateful to be able to present our first record, and we want to send a big thank you to everyone involved who has helped make this a success. Join us on an adventure – it’s only just begun…“, the mischievous gang comments.

Trold plays folk metal with a mischievous smile, which is guaranteed to kick off the party from inside the large, dark Danish forests. The storytelling and melodies are in focus when playing with different instruments and heavy guitar rhythms to create the perfect atmosphere. The stories grow, hiss, and are sung, while the listeners/audience are taken on a host of adventures.

Trold has its roots well planted in the Nordic soil where inspiration is found from a wealth of fairy tales and mythologies. Giants, Gods, the animals of the forest, and the marvelous world of the sea are just some of the places Trold takes the listeners.

When the trolls are on stage, you can be sure that the party will start and the good mood will be kicked off.

Line-up:
Astór Palsson (Dawn of Demise): vocals
Jesper Myrup (Kurgan): guitar
Christian Christiansen (Sylvatica): guitar
Allan Madsen (Prevail): bass
Peter Rafaelsen: keys

German Symphonic Metal ascending stars BEYOND THE BLACK can already look back across a stratospherically successful career, despite their youthful years. Upon release, their 2015 debut album hit like a bomb in their home country. Songs Of Love And Death besieged the German Top 15 for weeks, which led to the band being awarded the Metal Hammer Award for “Best Debut” in 2015. Its successor Lost In Forever (2016) entered the German charts at #4 and paved the way for a huge tour throughout Germany, and across countries like the UK, Russia and Japan. Since the band’s live debut in 2014 they have played some of the world’s biggest Metal festival like Wacken Open Air (several times) and have toured as support to heavy weights such as AEROSMITH, KORN, SCORPIONS, SAXON and WITHIN TEMPTATION. During the campaign for their third record Heart Of the Hurricane(2018), BEYOND THE BLACK landed their first ever European headline tour, which took them across 10 countries, with most dates selling out.

Before they’d even finished the Heart Of the Hurricane touring cycle, BEYOND THE BLACK had already gone back to the studio to write and record album number four. The result was Horizons, released in June 2020, which entered the German album charts at #3 (CH #6, AT #16, BE #53) marking the band’s most successful album release to date.

Now, two years later, BEYOND THE BLACK are back to launch a new chapter. Following the release of recently highly acclaimed tracks ‘Reincarnation‘, ‘Is There Anybody Out There‘, ‘Winter Is Coming’ and ‘Dancing In The Dark’, the band release their new, fifth studio album – the self-titled Beyond the Black on January 13th 2023!

DAWN RAY’D Share New Single + Music Video ‘Ancient Light’

UK black metal trio DAWN RAY’D has today shared the lead single from their forthcoming third album, To Know The Light, with an accompanying music video for the track, titled Ancient Light. On their latest full-length DAWN RAY’D return as a reinvigorated version of themselves, presenting a reimagining of exactly what black metal is and can be in the future. To Know The Light will be released via Prosthetic Records on March 24, supported by UK tour dates (more details below).

Stream Ancient Light via Apple Music | TIDAL | Deezer | Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order To Know The Light here.

Speaking on Ancient Light‘s release, the band comments: “Ancient Light is the first song we wrote for this record, it was written during a very bleak time when it felt like the world was crashing down around us, and one of the things that got us through that time was our belief in the goodness of people, in the strength of community, in the power of art and creativity.

“The lyrics are about how capitalism leaves us feeling divorced from our very selves, and robs us of our time, dreams and the things that make us happy. We are forced into lives of subjugation and coercion, against our will and against our best interests. But we are not beaten, we are many, we are powerful and together we are unstoppable. Every government, every king, every tyrant knows this, we just have to realise it ourselves.”

To Know The Light is a departure from their previous missives in more ways than one. Although still overtly political, the lyrics take on a more personal slant than before. Lyrically, To Know The Light traces the band’s own journey through anarcho-nihilism; from anger, to despair, to a radical acceptance of the darkness all around us, settling on a new understanding of liberation and joy. Whilst much of the thematic content is rooted in rage and resistance, there are also elements of positivity to be found throughout.

Recorded at the Station House in Leeds, in what can arguably be described as an appropriate repurposing of an old police house, and Mynetaur Studios with production by Mark Mynett (Rotting Christ, My Dying Bride) and additional engineering by James Atkinson. DAWN RAY’D have crafted an album high on production values with clean vocals, rich layering and many melodic passages of majestic theatricality, all without compromising intensity.

DAWN RAY’D define folk music as a way to document the injuries, abuses and real-life stories of working class people; a way to disseminate information that would otherwise not be accessible. Sonically speaking, too, they incorporate elements of traditional folk music into their music – notably within the harmonies and layers on tracks such as Requital and Freedom in Retrograde.

Citing influences as genre-diverse as Chumbawumba, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Propagandhi, Lankum, and Crass, it is evident that the message is still as important as the music. The thread that runs through all these bands – and many others – is one that allows for creative expression around common themes of class struggle, freedom and resistance. Much of the lyrical content is poetic in structure and delivery, but never at the expense of straightforward language when necessary. The album’s cover continues this theme of directness, featuring a photograph taken in France by Remi Moon, with additional artwork and layout by Ethan McCarthy. The image features a silhouetted figure in front of a fire at a protest.

Consider this an invitation to disregard preconceptions about DAWN RAY’D and the genre(s) within which they reside. Consider To Know The Light as not just a rallying cry but a sincere offering of a new way of looking at the world.

To Know The Light tracklist:
1. The Battle of Sudden Flame
2. Ancient Light
