XANDRIA Announce Upcoming Album “The Wonders Still Awaiting”

Following the release of their two latest singles “Reborn” and “You Will Never Be Our God”, symphonic metal icons XANDRIA have finally announced their upcoming new studio album, The Wonders Still Awaiting, out February 3, 2023 via Napalm Records. The legendary German band, founded by mastermind Marco Heubaum, introduces its new lineup after six years of silence. Their first European tour and previous singles proved once and for all that this new arrangement is more than just convincing. With a breath of fresh air and immense talent, XANDRIA re-ascend to the top of the genre, unveiling all wonders still awaiting.

Today, the five-piece have finally released their new single, “Ghosts”, together with a colorful music video that perfectly encompasses the mood of the multifaceted album. Vocalist Ambre Vourvahis not only showcases her creativity as a songwriter, but also her incredible vocal talent – ranging deftly from angelic chants to haunting growls.

XANDRIA on “Ghosts” and the new album:
“Ghosts actually started as a reminiscence to good old Swedish melodic death metal and with that archetypical guitar riff that you hear right in the beginning.

And then we integrated it into our XANDRIA soundscape with lots of film score atmosphere and big choirs, because it was exciting to mix these elements and do our own thing with it (still we kept the working title “Swedish Fire” for a long time…).

It is a good example for how diverse the new album will be and how many different influences we were putting into it. We had a lot of things – little musical dreams – in our minds and hearts that we wanted to realize, and along with what you already heard in the first two new songs this is just one of them. There will be quite some more surprises coming…”

The Wonders Still Awaiting marks the first record presenting new vocalist Ambre Vourvahis, Robert Klawonn (guitars), Tim Schwarz (bass) and Dimitrios Gatsios (drums). Presenting 13 songs in total, XANDRIA‘s sound emerges harder, darker and more epic than ever before, but holds an intimate setting and range of emotions at the same time. Rich in different styles and genres, the massive album resembles that of a blockbuster movie score at each and every turn – sending its listener on an exciting journey to experience a world of sound never heard before in the universe of XANDRIA. This is further brought to life by a 40-piece classical choir, authentic Celtic instruments performed by renowned musicians, and delicate violin and cello contributions from Subway To Sally‘s Ally Storch. The new record is topped by the Bulgarian National Radio Children’s Choir, which marks the first collaboration of this kind in the band’s history, while none other than Lukas Knöbl is responsible for the orchestrations on The Wonders Still Awaiting – known for working with Hollywood greats like Roland Emmerich, for example. Each song’s colossal soundscapes and cinematic nature create a story that rapidly unfolds in the listener’s imagination.

The impressive vocal wealth of Ambre Vourvahis – ranging from rock grit, operatic highs and even death metal growls – opens the unit’s sound to a wider palette of colors. Songs like the opening epic “Two Worlds”, “The Wonders Still Awaiting”  and  “Ghosts”  manifest the thematic mood of the album while constructing incredible soundscapes of pure symphonic metal. “Two Worlds” also sets the record’s lyrical concept, dealing with questions of what kind of world we are living in; one in which people deal sensibly with each other and treat it respectfully, or a dystopia dominated by autocrats and controlling technology? “Paradise” showcases some of the album’s strongest hooks, captivating with great metallic pop melodies. The veil of various influences is lifted once more in “Illusion Is Their Name”, dashing all deception with heavy power metal vibes. Tracks like “Your Stories I’ll Remember” and “Scars” show the intimate side of XANDRIA on one hand, while combining rhythmic heaviness on the other. The latter is reminiscent of a James Bond theme, dressed in a heavy musical soundscape. The epic nine minute album closer “Astéria”, featuring Greek lyrics written by Ambre Vourvahis, lands as the album’s exclamation point, proving with a grand finish that the five-piece has fearlessly started a revolution in the symphonic metal genre – commencing an impressive new era of XANDRIA with The Wonders Still Awaiting.

METHANE have announced the release of a new brimstone engulfed album for early 2023. Hailing from Sweden with American born singer/bassist Tim Scott, formerly of cult acclaimed NJ death metal band Revenant, has chosen January 27, 2023 as the release date of its heavy groove laden thrash metal album “Kill It With Fire”.

The album reverberates unapologetic thrash metal guitar riffing courtesy of guitarists Jimi Masterbo and Markus Grundstrom paired with the intense drumming of newly inducted drummer Jonathan Fundin . The album also features a colaboration with CJ Scioscia from New York City area thrash legends Blood Feast, who shreds a solo on track 5 ‘A Blood Red Sky’.

Tim commented in a press release “The lyrics for the album have a darkened tone of irony about our contemporary societal woes and some deeply personal songs as well, of life and all its miseries. The music on the album sounds brutal, we really got a sick mix of old school thrash and heavy pit provoking groove riffs.”

Kill It With Fire is now available on black vinyl as  pre-sale here on the band’s Bandcamp. It is also available to pre-save on Spotify, Bandcamp and Youtube here.

Thin the Herd is the first single released from the album, originally released in 2019, now Methane have just finished shooting a new video to be released sometime in January.

The music video depicts today’s society, social media junkies hopped up Facebook likes. The idea for the song came from a day Tim was going through his friends list, deleting people that had no reason to be there. ” I was culling them, deleting someone from your page is worse than death for some people. I think we are all going fuckin’ crazy. Its a virus and we’re all infected”.

Kill It With Fire Tracklist:
1- “Kill It With Fire”
2- “Accuser (of the brethren)”
3- “Declare Chaos”
4- “Shock and Awe”
5- “A Blood Red Sky” ( feat. CJ Scioscia of Blood Feast)
6- “Down in the Gutter”
7- “Thin the Herd”

In August 2021, Avant Garde collective THY CATAFALQUE took the stage for the very first time during the Fekete Zaj festival in Hungary. Mastermind and humble genius Tamás Kátai rallied 26 eclectic musicians to lend their talents toward performing 15 songs from Thy Catafalque’s expansive discography. This unique and mind-blowing performance was captured on film and will be available to the world via Blu-Ray on November 25, 2022 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing the live clip for the song, “”Fekete Mezők,” which can be seen at THIS LOCATION.

Kátai comments: “Last August a unique and magical event took place at Fekete Zaj Festival. 26 musicians performed 15 Thy Catafalque songs in front of a sold out festival and sparked the live carnation of the project that had been a mere studio entity for 23 years. The concert has been recorded and will be released in November. Re-live the night – this will never happen again in such form.”

Besides the Blu-ray, THY CATAFALQUE announced limited vinyl editions of the ‘Rengeteg’ (2011) and ‘Meta’ (2016) re-issues. Pre-orders for the Blu-ray and re-issues are now live HERE.

The cover artwork for ‘Mezolit – Live at Fekete Zaj’ was created by Tamás Kátai himself.

Track-list:

13. Piros-sárga (5:13)
14. Szarvas (5:46)
15. Fehérvasárnap (2:17)
Total: 1:12:55

The very first live show of THY CATAFALQUE was recorded in August 2021, during the Fekete Zaj festival in Hungary. 26 Musicians performed 15 songs from Thy Catafalque’s discography which is now captured on this unique Blu-ray ‘Mezolit – Live at Fekete Zaj’!

THY CATAFALQUE’s humble genius Tamás Kátai abandons any and all prenotions of tradition. Intertwining elements from a vast swath of unrelated genres, from jazz to pop to folk, and everything in between, THY CATAFALQUE masterfully crafts an eclectic sound that breaks down any generic barriers or borders. Following the massive success of 2020’s critically-acclaimed ‘Naiv,’ the entity returns with ‘Vadak,’ another esoteric monument in its already storied catalog.

Meaning “Wildlings” in Hungarian, the album title is a deliberate clue to the exotic and feral essence of ‘Vadak.’ Like seedlings scattered throughout the forest by the mere forces of nature, THY CATAFALQUE’s imaginative sound grows with an organic sense of whimsy, cultivated within the vast influences of our megacosm. Thematically, ‘Vadak’ is a foreboding lesson in mortality. Emphasizing the fragility that is shared by man and beast alike, the record explores our Freudian life instincts, in which we inherently fear and run from the ultimate goal of existence: death.

Originally, THY CATAFALQUE emerged as a black metal band founded by singer/keyboard player Tamás Kátai with the aid of guitarist/bassist János Juhász. Following their joined debut ‘Sublunary Tragedies’ (1999), the Hungarians evolved into quite different directions, but steadily gaining more followers in the process through the following albums, ‘Microcosmos’ (2001) and the self-released ‘Tűnő idő tárlat’ (2004).

On their fourth full-length, ‘Róka hasa Rádió’ (2009), THY CATAFALQUE invited Ágnes Tóth from neo-folk outfit THE MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT and Attila Bakos to add their haunting vocals. With fifth album ‘Rengeteg’ (2011), Tamás Kátai finally went solo with the help of guest musicians that again included Ágnes Tóth an Attila Bakos. Dubbing his eclectic musical amalgamation avant-garde metal, the Hungarian explored new sonic possibilities with ‘Sgùrr’ (2015). The sixth full-length turned out to be slightly more complex than its successor, ‘Meta’ (2016), which returned to a more direct approach without losing the steadily growing sonic diversity. In 2018, THY CATAFALQUE continued this path with the release of ‘Geometria’. THY CATAFALQUE delivered another spectacular musical mosaic with their ninth full-length entitled ‘Naiv’, inspired by the “Naïve Art” movement.

At its core, latest release ‘Vadak’ (2021) expresses the familiar hallmarks that are unique to only THY CATAFALQUE, and yet, it is an unpredictable magnum opus, showcasing the latest evolution from Kátai and his esteemed co-conspirators. The album puts forth an elegance that cannot be matched or rivaled by any musical contemporary, taking fans on an adventure that is rife with excitement, drama, and unbridled craftsmanship.

Finnish BLOODRIDE have unleashed a rough video for ‘Hate of Hatred‘, taken from the band’s 4th album “Idiocracy“, released via Great Dane Records in 2021.

BLOODRIDE on ‘Hate of Hatred’:
“The video for Bloodride’s song Hate Of Hatred is about hating hate. A topic that has been relatively difficult to describe in a video. Of course, it’s a somewhat difficult topic anyway. The material was filmed during the covid period, i.e. when we didn’t see each other with the band for more than a year. So because of this, only photos of the band were used in filming. In this way, a band video could be made without the presence of the band – of course, it allowed for a bit rougher material as well.”

Watch the video below.

  • Video editing by Film Doc
  • Videomaterial by the Thrashing Madness
  • Video editing supported by the culture of the city of Lapua.

Furthermore, the band is currently working on new material for their upcoming album. More information TBA.

VIOLET BLEND Drop ‘Voices In My Head’ Music Video & Single

Italian alternative metal band VIOLET BLEND have just released a new music video and single for the song “Voices In My Head“. The video was directed by Angelo Mura. The single was produced by Giada Celeste Chelli, and it was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Andrea Dell’Olio and Furio Lanciano at Soundscape in Firenze, Italy.

Listen / Download Voices In My Head at this location

“Our music video portrays the lonely and delusional life of a woman admitted to a mental health center,” says lead vocalist and composer Giada Celeste Chelli. “The fear, delirium of a life lived in chains, and the fluctuating flow of time, are all key concepts in the song and video, especially as it runs faster and more erratically. In the video, she is terrified of the passage of time and the situation is getting worse because she knows when the time is up, she will never be able to be sane again. The doctor and nurse are completely indifferent to her needs, ignoring her. Instead, their presence and lack of action add more negative voices screaming in her head. The room is covered with all the words that she hears, so she writes everything on the walls to exorcise her fears to alleviate the pain. The empty white and bright room represent a sense of abandonment, anxiety, and pressure in a world that doesn’t care about her. The written words repry day to introduce ourselves to one another. They also represent the inner struggle that we carry out every day to make room for ourselves in the world, seeking affirmation.”

The new single Voices In My Head by Violet Blend is an inner conversation that screams instead of whispering. The song is about insecurity, fear, and doubt in yourself. Sometimes you feel like time is slipping away and all you hear is the voices in your head that are trying bring you down. It’s a furious urgency to get rid of all those chains that prevent you from living freely and accomplishing your dreams. The blindfold on Giada’s eyes that we can see in the music video and cover art for the single, represents the blindness to which we are induced when we allow negativity to overwhelm us.

Violet Blend lineup
Giada Celeste Chelli (vocals, piano), Ferruccio Baroni (bass), Michel Agostini (drums)
